Reviews for The Gatwick White House Hotel
Review 1:Good transfer service to and from Gatwick Great value overnight accommodation in between flights Lovely pub just up the road for dinner and a drink
Review 2:First impressions go a long way.The entrance of the hotel looked very dull and dreary with no curtains on the windows.Once inside, the hotel was cosy and the staff were very helpful and friendly.I had forgot to pack my adaptor for my phone, and the guy on reception searched till he found me one.I booked my táxi with the hotel, from and to the airport as i was flying out next day.The drivers on the road were manic, all cutting in front of each other and it was rush hour, everyone travelling to work.On the way to the airport, the táxi was almost in a crash. The driver slammed on his brakes, and he commented, thank god he had good brakes.I was thrown forward and banged my face on the seat in front.I ended up with burst blood vessels in my left eye, and when i arrived at my destination i had bad whiplash.I lost the power of my legs for 3 days,i could not walk.My final destination was,The Holiday Inn, Montego Bay,Jamaica. One of the waiters at the resort took care of me, by delivering my food to my room as i was confined to my room for 3 day's.When i was able to walk again,i attended the nurse at the resort who treated me,by giving me painkillers for my back and also back rubs. This has never happened to me before. It must have been an after affect from the near car crash. It was very frightning wondering if i was able to walk again.
Review 3:I like the rooms they were comfortable and clean, with a brand new toilet that had a nice big power shower, with plenty of clean towels and the bed was also comfortable.Tea and coffee making facilitys in the rooms, nice flat screen tv on the wall.Hotel had a nice restaurante, didn't look very cosy or inviting could be doing with a makeover. Liked the fact the hotel gave you an early wake up call.Great value for money, and so near the airport.Perfect location for an overnight stay, if flying from Gatwick airport.
Review 4:Small rooms, no chairs in the rooms. Linen of poor quality.
Review 5:Good location, friendly staff. The hotel is not far from Gatwick Airport and the service of the shuttle bus is useful. The bathroom was new.
Review 6:Kind of inconvenient that internet wasn't available in the rooms but that wasn't a problem if you wanted to pay for it.
Review 7:The fact that breakfast was included as well as airport transfers made travelling a lot less stressful and it's something that isn't offered very often.
Review 8:I was disappointed by the breakfast. The cook could have done better. The egg was hard, the sausage was burnt, the orange juice was a cheap variety.
Review 9:Friendly, helpful staff. The bathroom was spotless. The room was really good and the bed was good
Review 10:Very noisy (maybe depends on where the room is located). I had impression the windows were opened as I felt a bit cold and could hear the street like it was opened.
Review 11:Very close and practical to go to the airport. The shuttle makes it easier as well. Very clean. Cheapest in the area. Late check in and early check out (arrived after 10PM and left at 6:30AM)
Review 12:No sugar for breakfast and in the rooms, it was very cold and we had to ask the manager to turn the heating on. The water was going really slowly. The doors were very heavy which was really loud whenever closing them and it waked me up. Could not contact with the manager when needed and breakfast was not nice.
Review 13:Free WiFi and juice, leaving
Review 14:They did not reply to my e-mail with a very important question. The staff could not speak english and they were not really nice. No number to the manager and the costs of staying few hours longer were too high.
Review 15:Free wifi and tv
Review 16:No hot water for tea and no service in dining room, one person only doing everything apparently. Very cold and very hard surfaces eg noisy.
Review 17:Clean comfortable beds. Lovely shower, spotlessly clean. Good quality towels. Plenty of tea, coffee etc. Breakfast adequate.
Review 18:The shower was poor. The fixture was broken, so the shower had to be held in the hand, and the water pressure was low and weak. The bin, which was in a cupboard next to the wardrobe, had not been emptied in my room, and rubbish had spilled out into the cupboard, although the room was otherwise clean and tidy. The cupboards/drawers needed some repairs. The free wifi downstairs does not reach the rooms upstairs and you have to pay extra if you want wifi in your room.
Review 19:The location was excellent, on a quiet road in Horley, ten minutes drive from Gatwick airport. Despite being so close to the airport I didn't notice any noise disturbance from planes. The bed was comfy and the TV worked. A shuttle can be booked directly to and from the airport.
Review 20:Very old facilities! It was like I went to sleep and woke up in the 1980's. Poor WiFi in the room. Poor food. Could definitely find a better place with 10 more pounds. It was clean I guess but just seeing all these OLD carpets and OLD fashioned rooms just made you feel uncomfortable.
Review 21:The staff was as much helpful they could be in such an old "hotel"
Review 22:Uncomfortable mattress on bed, traffic noise, wash basin drain not working.
Review 23:Near to airport,as I had to take early morning flight. Transport facility to airport.
Review 24:All was fine. No complaints. Staff were friendly and did not put any pressure on you to eat in there restaurant.
Review 25:Very cosy and quiet making for a good nights sleep before my travels. Good transfer to the airport and reasonable cost.
Review 26:No hairdryer, as stated in the list of room contents. No little cookie or treat to have with coffee. No face cloth.
Review 27:Quite close to railway station. Airport shuttle 24 hours. Room was clean.
Review 28:Staying. Breakfast was awful. Really poor, but like most places in Horley, it was overpriced, small rooms and the worst value for money. my best advice would be to pay an extra £10-£15, and stay somewhere in one of the big chains.
Review 29:Leaving
Review 30:What's not to like, the place was fine.
Review 31:You know what? After flying across the Atlantic this is an Oasis for the money. If you fancy something fancy, go elsewhere, but if you are seeking a good place to sleep at a reasonable price here is your spot. After an endless flight from Fort Lauderdale we cleared immigration and customs made our way to the curb, made a free phone call, less than 15 minutes later the hotel picked us up, within an hour, we were under the comforter sleeping off the jetlag. The village offers places to eat and drink minutes from the hotel. A nice English breakfast the following morning and we were efficiently scooted back to the airport to pick up a rental car. Worked out fine.
Review 32:Furniture needed some dusting and water from shower wasn't very hot. Trip hazard in front of our door (vacuum cleaner laid out and still plugged) blocking fire escape egress.
Review 33:Shuttle service availability and friendly staff.
Review 34:problems with my booking..tried to charge me despite money coming out of my visa a month earlier..tried to charge me for transfer to/from airport despite free transfer advertised on website
Review 35:close proximity to Gatwick is a bonus
Review 36:Very poor on service, comfort, and facilities. Bedroom was very small and smelt of damp, bedding and towels where not very good.
Review 37:Location was good for Gatwick, for a stop over.
Review 38:Friendliness and helpfulness of staff. good budget hotel for people coming in and out of Gatwick. We stayed here a few years ago, and can see many improvements ( eg new bathrooms). we wish them well, as they continue to offer a good service.
Review 39:The only but is that the oyster card does not work in the area yet
Review 40:The location of the hotel worked out perfectly for us. Excellent transportation network!
Review 41:Very little toilet roll, the kettle contained sour milk that smelt like sick, The lady was rude who was serving breakfast and said we hadn't booked. The cooked breakfast was swimming in grease and cold. There was no toilet roll, toilet seat was not attached to the toilet. The window Coll was covered in cup marks with a coin on it it had obviously not been cleaned. Outside below the window on the flat roof was littered with cigarette end so. The person who wrote the room instruction needs literacy lessons. To top it all they took three payments but only refunded one. Still waiting for this to be sorted. Would never stay here again.
Review 42:Sounds stupid, but I couldn't understand how the bathroom sink plug worked. As it was so late when I arrived, I didn't like to bother anyone - a simple diagram would have helped.
Review 43:The room had everything I needed. I was given a twin room, I could arrive after 11pm and a transfer was available for my 6am flight.
Review 44:A bad tempered staff member late at night. Just one episode, and understandable in the circumstances, but nevertheless unwelcome. One of our group, returning mid-morning to collect something forgotten, found the room door open and noone around, and there were valuables we'd left in there. We were staying for several nights. This was a concern
Review 45:The bathroom in the single room was excellent. Cleanliness and easygoing atmosphere. The value for group stay was excellent. Very economical.
Review 46:The staff didn't seem aware of what our booking included. On my confirmation it said a standard triple room with 1 double and 1 single bed. We got 3 singles. I had paid for parking and breakfast. This seemed to be something I needed to tell the hotel, not something the hotel already knew.
Review 47:It was very affordable at the last minute.
Review 48:The hotel is not of the proper standard, rooms are cold, breakfast facilities are basic. A bit overpriced considering what the hotel offers
Review 49:the location- close to Gatwick
Review 50:Check in was said to be acceptable between 10-11 am and even possible earlier than this. I was working nights and only stayed during the day. So, I asked to check in at 9am. However, this seemed non-negotiablewhen I got to the hotel, as the manger at the desk was only keen to collect payment and will not discuss check in before 11am. His demeanure was as if I was asking for the moon in my room. The lady who took over form him was more pleasant - explaining that they had a busy night and that they will quickly prepare a room for me once available.
Review 51:Proximity to palce of work. Very comfortable bed
Review 52:According to Booking, free drinks meant to be offered, request for twin room as part of our party not received by Hotel. Very basic but friendly
Review 53:Value for money, breakfast ok and included in price. Bar cheap
Review 54:Con: Difference in room rate from online (higher) and fee back to airport (2 minute train ride to airport and lots cheaper).
Review 55:Pro: 24/7 Service and great location to town center and transportation. Decent breakfast.
Review 56:Wi-Fi was not included in the price.
Review 57:Hotel was clean and affordable and close to the airport. The staff was friendly and there was a fast shuttle to the airport for 6 GBP per 2 people.
Review 58:Within 5 mins drive from Gatwick , by free minibus. Good value room with all facilities. Bar and restaurant on premises, good options to eat and drink nearby in Horley. No flight noise.
Review 59:could be more parking - a bit tight but we did arrive late. breakfast was average - was not asked when we wanted cooked so it arrived before I had eaten my cornflakes. waitress was difficult to understand and not very friendly
Review 60:reception adequate and available late. room - bed not great but bathroom good towels nice and fresh
Review 61:All staff were very helpful and friendly. A meal was available in the evening as well as the breakfast in the morning. There was a shuttle service to the airport. Will definitely go to the White House Hotel again and recommend it to everyone.
Review 62:Window in room didn't close all the way and outside sounds were possible.
Review 63:Shuttle service to the airport was a very nice perk and location to airport was close.
Review 64:It's an old place, bit shabby, internally noisy at night and early morning.
Review 65:fine for an overnight stay : shuttle to and from airport :close to Horley station. good towels.
Review 66:the room is so closed to the main road that big noisy can not allow you to get sleep, the pressure of water of bath is so so so lower, the heater was closed by staff, so in the winter the room is too cold to get sleep. Breakfast is bad. The wifi only free in the public place, if you use in room they will charge you. It is better to stay in airport for whole night rather than live in their hotel!
Review 67:near the airport, but still need to catch the bus
Review 68:I booked a room then was charge £6.00 for car parking which was use for long stay people at the airport we got a space but we want to go the morning we had to ask recpection to move the van they offer free parking in the outside the road the person it was only from 7 in the evening to 8 in the morning but the reception said it would been better for us as he don,t have a lot space in the car park because only stay for one night. and we spoke a lady at the recpection she did not speak any english at all we had to wait for the reception person to return from his airport run.
Review 69:Nobody to cook English breakfast although I had been offered it when I arrived. No staff at reception when checking out.
Review 70:The location and the transfer service
Review 71:My husband was upset on Monday morning because they had no perked coffee made. He complained loudly then they made a pot of coffee.
Review 72:Handy to airport. In a quiet neighborhood. Not fancy but adequate. Enjoyed our stay.
Review 73:The shower was too high.also it was very 'gentle' The breakfast was cold, and when we complained ee were told that Perhaps it was because of the weather?? The coffee had run out as had the cutlery, cups and cheap bread for toast. Not worth £8.50
Review 74:Location was good. We were told how we could get to Horley and get trains from there. Also that there was a window in the bathroom.
Review 75:Nothing
Review 76:Friendly staff clean and comfortable room good breakfast included laundry service available car parking on site short distance to airport and gatwick cbd
Review 77:Breakfast was served haphazardly. items running out i.e. Coffee machine not refilled, hot breakfast cold when served not given any choice what you may want just slapped on table take it or leave it.
Review 78:Close to Airport
Review 79:Parking difficult (but it is everywhere near Gatwick). Breakfast - had to clear own table before sitting down, open cartons of juice, make own coffee (instant) after having to request mugs and cutlery. Staff at breakfast not in evidence, when one did appear it was only to ask room number, then reappear with cooked breakfast 10 minutes later. No one clearing tables.
Review 80:Room small but adequate for single night. Wi-Fi worked well and shower hot and powerful (but cramped). Check in quick and easy.
Review 81:The room was cold with no way to turn on the heating.. the carpets where in tatters and pieces rather than a whole piece. No pressure on the shower,
Review 82:Very close to local town
Review 83:Fantastic for an overnight stay prior to a flight at Gatwick. They offer a taxi service directly to your terminal entrance from very early hours (I was dropped off at 5am), as well as to the nearest train station.
Review 84:The shower water was cold and had very little pressure. One of our rooms had bunk beds that needed the bolts looking at as the frame had a lot of movement.
Review 85:The location of this hotel is excellent, just a few minutes drive from Gatwick and only a few minutes walk from bars and restaurants. The hotel offer a shuttle service to the airport which leaves you with one less thig to worry about. There is a bar onsite open till 11pm that is reasonably priced but only serves bottles and cans. Cooked breakast doesn't begin until 7am but there is the option of cereals and toast from 5am. The hotel is cheap so if you are expecting luxury I would stay somewhere else but for a night before you fly, it is ideal.
Review 86:The staff was uninterested. We had to pay for parking our car outside the "hotel". The was only wifi at the reception area. The room was tiny and had mold on the walls, the bathroom also. There were stains on the bedlinnen. We could not leave the windows open because outside was a low roof which somebody easily to climp onto to. In the middle of the night the room next to us was rented out for a few hours, the guests making so much noise that we could not sleep. When the guests left the room was cleaned ( also in the middle of the night). This guesthouse is located close to the airport which is handy and the only reason why it is so expensieve.
Review 87:Staff with poor understanding of english, bed was to hard, parking was pathetic as no spaces and we paid for parking
Review 88:Nice location, close to nearby eateries
Review 89:The décor of the hotel is in need of upgrade. The mattresses in the room are very old and in need of replacement.
Review 90:Friendly staff. Free shuttle to and from airport was very helpful
Review 91:Noise from road traffic. Windows looked, but still noisy due to poor edge seal. Corridor and stairs grubby from numerous scuff marks on the walls.
Review 92:Location & price
Review 93:Didn't like the breakfast. The sausage was more cereal than meat.
Review 94:Shuttle between hotel & airport. Lovely clean & quiet rooms with necessary facilities and friendly staff.
Review 95:Hotel located right on a busy road. With the windows open, sleep was impossible. The rooms are not sound proof so you can hear every movement/sound in the corridors or rooms nearby.
Review 96:Clean toilet/bathroom.
Review 97:This is the 2nd time I have stayed there. From my phone call from the airport phone to being transferred back to the airpot in the morning. The staff were excellent and very professional. They make me feel safe and greet me nicely and friendly this is the most efficient hotel I have every stayed in
Review 98:cold water was warm in the tap needed 2 pillows per person ...breakfast was ok but could be better.....gardens were untidy needed tending also lot of builders rubble
Review 99:room was light and airy and roomy.....shower room was excellent.....
Review 100:Wifi was okay on the bottom floor, but not very strong.
Review 101:Close to the airport with a reasonably priced shuttle. Facilities were clean, but gave the appearance of a low budget motel.
Review 102:Could have been more choicefor breakfas , but you get what you pay for. As we had an early flight we didn't want a lot too eat.
Review 103:Ideal location if you need a quick courtesy bus to the airport. Nice local pub nearby. Room was basic but it was very good value for the money compared to London hotel rates
Review 104:No parking half the time ,yet you get charges for it every night. My husband had to keep moving his car so the mini bus could take people to airport (we were visiting people in horley not going away) so this was annoying. Paying for a parking space and not actually having one is not good. We were told the money would be took out on our day of arrival and it wasn't so again we had to mess about and get the money together. They were great staff and it was a good place if your going abroad but not for an actual stay cation.
Review 105:Breakfast was good Location was good Rooms good Price good
Review 106:All the tables were occupied at breakfast, we had to wait 45 minutes for a table to become available.
Review 107:Transport to Gatwick Airport was provided at no extra cost.
Review 108:We liked the convenience of being picked up from Gatwick airport and dropped off at Gatwick the next morning. The hotel was very clean and affordable. The staff were very polite.
Review 109:Exceptionally small rooms beds an pillows hard, torn carpets in room pieces missing, General decoration in poor state, dirty corridors, dirty carpets, dirty walls dirty chairs in restaurant. Would not stay here again or recommend this hotel to my worst enemy. Charged for WiFi an transport to Airport although web ad says free for both.
Review 110:Absolutley nothing
Review 111:The hotel is very shabby and has the appearance of being run on a shoestring. My booking said breakfast was included but the receptionist argued that it wasn't. The room was very basic and at breakfast they ran out of fresh coffee and had a very cheap powdered instant instead. Bread and juice were in cheap value packets and it was very poor for £8.50.They couldn't be bothered to top up the fresh coffee. I was only staying a night but was glad to leave. The breakfast room was also very dingy. I wish I was able to stay at the newly refurbished Travelodge up the road but they were full. At least you know what you are getting there. Avoid this hotel, seriously.
Review 112:rooms of a decent size, beds were comfortable and clean. everything was in working order. Was a lovely place, would defiantly recommend and stay again myself. Nice staff also.
Review 113:Stale smell in room. Cramped shower. Dangerous step in passage that i fell over.
Review 114:Helpful and friendly staff. Shuttle service very good even very early hours of morning.
Review 115:Far to early check out we got in at 4 am and had to check out at 10. It didn't mention that on their details on booking. We stYef there as wanted to rest in between the travels which defeated the odds.
Review 116:They partially accommodate for gluten sensitivity. Comfortable beds. Clean.
Review 117:It's a budget hotel, not luxurious. The room and bathroom were adequate, but the bed was a bit uncomfortable. No free wifi was annoying, and we didn't pay for it since we were only staying overnight to catch an early morning flight.
Review 118:The breakfast in the morning is quite nice. Can get full English breakfast (though not asked how we wanted our eggs), and there are waffles available. The airport shuttle took us directly to the South terminal.
Review 119:None to complain about Garden could do with attention but it seems to be undergoing refurb, so understand it may improve Noisy hard surfaces in the dining room. Soft furnishings or carpet could improve the ambiance.
Review 120:Value B&B OK room size for one night Good car parking Local eateries a plenty, and good Good value and tasty breakfast Some décor tired but seems to be under refurb so we allowed for that.
Review 121:Bit of a weird place but it was friendly enough, I would stay again.
Review 122:We needed a cheap place we could stay for one night before our flight. The White House was super close with a free shuttle, free breakfast, which wasn't anything special but it was good and a clean room. The bathroom and shower were very modern and clean which is always good.
Review 123:Building being renovated bit by bit not all windows had curtains and little room for luggage. Shower needed a place to put soap etc
Review 124:Location good and staff friendly.
Review 125:Desk staff were friendly but food wa terrible. Had dinner night before early am flight, blandest curry I've ever had and the meat was overcooked. Had breakfast before morning departure, it was dried out and overcooked. when the coffee ran out, u asked for more (my husband and I had only had one small cup) and was told no, they weren't going to put on a pot for Us.
Review 126:If you have an early flight out of Gatwick Airport or a late arrival and you're looking to just spwnd the night before travel, it's okay.
Review 127:The Asian food ordered for dinner was downright pathetic. The egg fried rice and mushroom fried rice was tasteless. The tomato soup was just a quarter of the canned soup and topped up with water. The paid wifi did not function well.
Review 128:The hotel was close to Gatwick airport yet within walking distance to Horley town.
Review 129:Free phone at Gatwick bus station to call the hotel for a free pick up within five minutes before 11pm. This service is 24 hours but there is a charge for pick up after 11pm. Well stocked bar withSpacious attached lounge. Within easy walking distance of Horley train station.
Review 130:Room had all essential facilities for an overnight stay. I particularly noticed the information in the room was just what a traveller needed to know, including being allowed to bring in takeaway food and eat in the dining room.
Review 131:bad attitude of Manager, paid WiFi.Having to ask for towels which where thin and old.place is old and tired.Good enough for the paid price.
Review 132:Pick up from Airport and return.closeness to Gatwick.
Review 133:I had to wait 30 minutes for my transfer from the airport back to my car at the hotel, which is 5 minutes away. Very frustrating when I have a 4 hour journey to continue on. And they said they'd only be 10 mins! I thought it was over priced for what it was. The daily parking charge and transfers made my stay as expensive as some of the nicer (a lot nicer) hotels within the area. I did enquire about the extras when i booked, but no one got back to me. I won't be rushing back, there are nicer places around there for the same price.
Review 134:Just not my cup of tea really. I need a bit more from a place, would rather stay in family run one.
Review 135:The location was okay. The free transfer next morning was okay.
