Reviews for Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village
Review 1:The serenity of the place, the treatments and the staff are wonderful. I have been visitng this hotel since 17 years when they have just opened Somatheeram and the manage to continue to improve and mantain the place very nicely.
Review 2:Poor food at restaurantLaundry mix ups ( I got someone else's underwear!)Overworked staff at restaurant / unhappy restaurant staff. One waiter shouted at a younger one in front of all the guests.Lots of garbage on beach nearby - I think from local offerings to the sea due to nearby temples . This beach was clean when I was in area last about 5 years ago, disappointing. Might be an idea to organise beach cleaners as other beaches have doneRowdy beach party by locals on 25 Dec all day & night so off limits to guests . Three drunk fishermen drowned during this party& chicken legs from temple offering on seashore the following day ( it was a shiva celebration)Hotel beach loungers are beside a stream & not beside sea so not pleasant to lie at- move to nearer the sea & maybe make a small bridge to cross the stream- clumps of horrible brown stuff in the stream waterHotel located at bottom of steep hill, somatheeram location better for walking to the villageHotel prices for bottled water high & no nearby shop to get cheaper except in villageFood in twinned somatheeram much better when I stayed. The guests before Christmas are there for Ayurveda but they change st Christmas to more general tourists and families .My room had two slug visitors! I expected lizards etc but not slugs.Water wastage- guests should be encouraged to keep towels & sheets for a few days. At the moment the policy is to change sheets daily unless the guest asks to keep them, every 4 days is fine to change & if they want more frequent they can ask. I saw the water being transported to the hotel- it comes in huge barrels on the back of trucks driven there- northern Europeans are used to unlimited water but we need to be reminded we are in India & to conserve water,Wifi was poor in my roomI found workers didn't mind peeking in the window as they passed ( lots of workers) maybe remind them to not look in .
Review 3:Professional Ayurveda service Excellent reception staff Beautiful views Felt safe in the hotel resort area , could leave phone , bag around etc no problems Money changing available on site & she can change large notes to smaller for you Nice computers available to guests in reception & printing from one Nice idea to have hammocks around the hotel grounds , I missed them when I left! Nice views from restaurant area & outside Bottle of water every morning is a nice touch & the newspaper most days Comfy terrace area & I had nice view Very charming lovely cleaner lady for my room Nice to not have to walk far for Ayurveda & to be able to relax after in long robe & go lie in your hammock after the free coconut water ! Never a problem getting an Ayurveda appointment , lots of staff on hand
Review 4:Complained to booking.com with regards to the description of this place and left after 3 days of a weeks holiday. We booked Manaltheeram under the impression that it was a holiday resort which offered Ayurvedic treatments and yoga on the side. This is not the case! It is more like an Ayurvedic hospital on the beach and has an atmosphere similar to a care home, not suitable for a holiday at all. There is no alcohol on sight and even though smoking is actually permitted by the hotel it is frowned upon by other guests, as is any kind of joyfullness or frivolity. Most guests are here for Ayurvedic treatments, for example induced vomiting, some of which are for serious illnesses, which is reflected in the atmosphere. Bear this in mind before booking, if you want a holiday resort this is not it! After protracted negotiations with the manager Anish, who was extremely helpful in the end, we moved to the Soma Palmshore resort, and had a great experience there.
Review 5:General surroundings in Manaltheeram were clean and attractive, yoga classes were brilliant and food was also very nice, if a slightly more limited selection than one would have liked.
Review 6:Paid extra to stay in a 'garden cottage' however got placed i a different style room. They claimed it was in the same category as the cottages, but it was not what I specifically paid extra to get. The booking clearly said a garden cottage but I didn't get one. When I arrived and they wanted 120 euros for two tickets to a mandatory party. They refused to allow me to miss the event that I had no interest in going to and demanded I paid the extra for the tickets. This was not clear in the booking website, and if it was mandatory then it should have been included in the total cost given by the website. In the end the party was pretty similar to the normal 8 euro each evening buffet but with some children doing Kerala style dancing on a stage. The bathroom in the accommodation I was given was not modern enough or clean enough to for a property of this cost. And sadly while I was there the drivers (including ours) were complaining about the facilities. There was no running water available and just a toilet that didn't flush and the sleeping room was just a small room with no door so mosquitoes were everywhere. This was the only place of the 6 hotels I stayed where I ended up having to find other accommodation for the driver as he was so upset after the first night.
Review 7:great location, lovely pool area.
Review 8:One of those places you don't see too many people staying who are 'from india' - which is a shame ( you don't absorb the culture as much)
Review 9:Beautiful location, amazing food and massage!
Review 10:Too much litter ! Too many dead dogs washed upon the beach . Saw 4 in 6 days !
Review 11:Peace , tranquility and great staff . The beach and the waves were superb .
Review 12:Very laid back service. Rooms not cleaned on time inspite of several reminders. Breakfast and lunch buffet options very limited for non- vegetarians The spa rooms very very sandy and could be better maintained
Review 13:The location was great. The swimming pool was lovely
Review 14:nothing to do after dinner,we miss some activities, table games,shows...
Review 15:Just a word: excellent...everything was amazing, from cleaning to location, from food to ameneties..great ayurveda massage and professional staff...
Review 16:Sadly I have to ask for all the information about cooking class activites plus alternative options for swimming pool as this hotels pool was under maintenance. Dinner buffet was very disappointing, and really over priced. It was very warm in the room, there is no air condition. Also rooms are not really sound proof so you can hear the rough sea all night long plus all sorts of animals in the early dawn. (Tip- carry a pair of ear plugs) People who were handling luggage not friendly at all!
Review 17:I liked the Location and the massage center! Spectacular view of the beach from the property. Pool was under maintenance.
Review 18:The beach is terrible and full with sewage. The staff of the beach are unpleased and not terribly helpful. The Wi Fi in the village is extremely slow with lots of down time. Don't plan to work on-line in Manaltheeram.
Review 19:The village is beautiful calm and relaxing, The staff were extraordinary, Food is very good although a little monotonic... the room services are excellent. The evening social events were surprising and largely interesting with local traditional musicians and dancers.
Review 20:Maximum security prison approach to hospitality. Armed guards every five meters protecting patrons from the "locals"!!... Unfriendly staff unable or unwilling to communicate in English. Inefficient kitchen and dismal food service. This resort caters mainly to European and is geared towards longterm retreats for Ayurvedic treatments and cures (hence the old folks running around in hospital garbs and Mud facials...). Overpriced shops sprinkled throughout the property. Hotel owner's unsubtle and omnipresent self-promotion, as well as displays of a seemingly endless personal collection of antique artifacts, is both annoying and reminiscent of a small dictature. Like I said, bring a book...
Review 21:Spectacular location, breathtaking vistas, well laidout resort, manicured grounds. Somewhat affordable Ayurvedic treatments.
Review 22:Nothing to note.
Review 23:The cleanliness and the smile of the staff at the resort always eager to help and please. It was so peaceful only to be disturbed by the sounds of the waves and the cheerful songs of the birds. It was really BLISS. Thanks to VAISHNAV &TEENA. KEEP IT UP!
Review 24:One has to walk in uphill direction quite a bit for massages which is not easy for aged people. Also the food was bland and carried little too heavy touch of Ayurvedic. But to give credit, Chef , staff was very helpful and on requets they made every thing the way we wanted.
Review 25:Location is fantastic.Few KM off the kovalam , but that adds to beauty of not being crowded. I went with aged parents, and they really relished the location with garden, hammock, and beach right in front of cootage (Deluze one). Really look forwrad to come back again, I like the beach, peace (once you walk down 300-400 mtr on the beach).
Review 26:That we had to leave after 4 days
Review 27:We loved absolutely everything about Manaltheeram Ayurveda Beach Village. The location is fabulous with great views of the ocean. The gardens are green and tropical, palm trees galore and very well maintained. The accommodation is lovely (individual en suite rondavels), staff are friendly and professional, food is good and the atmosphere extremely relaxing. The wifi connection is also excellent. The resort has a private beach which is very clean (not the case further down the beach), has sun loungers, umbrellas and a life guard. There is also a doctor on the premises which is very handy for minor emergencies. We were really sad to leave after 4 days.
Review 28:Expensive food....and tasteless Beach can see people doing toilet ...disgusting and washed on beach just outside the hotel private beach...so who wants to swim in the sea ! Massages to expensive ...
Review 29:Location
Review 30:Staff was sometimes biased towards foreigners, giving them higher priority while serving meals/welcome etc. Nearby shops mainly sell kashmir artifacts/spices. No good shops to buy kerala sarees/ teas/good homemade chocolates nearby.
Review 31:Location, right on the beach and well maintained lawn. Food was healthy and tasty. Spa treatments are good too. They arranged a dance performance on friday night. All in all relaxing place with courteous staff and clean n cozy rooms. Room service/housekeeping was prompt.
Review 32:Noisy in the afternoon siesta time. Odd sounds disturbs sleep at night. The buffet runs out of food roughly halfway thru - so better be early if you are hungry.
Review 33:Excellent location Privacy Sea view Landscape Ambiance Very courteous staff Massage at Ayurveda Centre
Review 34:Small pool.
Review 35:Good option for relax. Away from busy city. Cheap to commute to city if you hire tuk tuk or private taxi. Food is good. Yoga lessons good. Did not try ayurveda treatment.
Review 36:lack of television and air conditioner makes it less suitable for family with kids. not much of outdoor activities for kids. in short not fit for family with kids.
Review 37:ayurvedic massage is a must try at this place. food is good. property is well maintained. Nice view of beach from the property.
Review 38:A la cart food ordered was okish

Review 52:Beautiful grounds
Review 53:Room
Review 54:Location, food, Facilities
Review 55:location
Review 56:Sea side
Review 57:Non a/c room
Review 58:location is beautiful, traditional dishes were excellent especially organic ones. Ayurvedic treatment was good
Review 59:The rooms are small and dark. They call it a four star hotel, but you have to pay extra for air-conditioning! If you do have air, you can't let any sinlight in the room because the windows only have wood shutters and screens - no glass. The Yoga classes are simply memorized by teachers who don't speak English. The ayurveda treatments are given to such large numbers of pepole that they could actually be dangerous,
Review 60:The restaurant food and staff are great. When we complained about the dark, cramped rooms, they did make some small adjustments.
Review 61:"its A paradise" first of all the place is so beautiful ,amazing scenery.. its A place to be if you want to be in A paradise ..nice private beach ..very silent and calm environment ..I stayed in garden view cottage room 516 ,the room was good & neat.. sea view cottage is the best .,its worth the money that U pay . I will come back again
Review 62:Denial of complimentary break fast.
Review 63:coffee in the morning I would like to made from grains
Review 64:works great staff, great place.
Review 65:Fruit juices are not fresh. Service is poor. Ayurveda Center is notproffesional, very crowded and expensive.
