Reviews for Caravan Serai

Review 1:Spa is a little unorganised but the staff try their best. Don't be put off though, it's a beautiful relaxing venue run by lovely people.

Review 2:Relaxing oasis with very attentive, friendly staff. Would definitely go back. Food is good, rooms are lovely. Only a short drive to the hustle and bustle of Marrakech.

Review 3:A bit of skeptical plumbing, the central heating didn't work (but provided with a heater!), minimal wait staff meant restaurant service would sometimes take a while / "relaxed"

Review 4:Friendliness of the staff (manager, waiter, reception, cleaners, taxi driver), the architectural space with many private nooks and crannies, being out in the countryside from the hustle-bustle of the Medina "forced" us to relax

Review 5:Since we were there last it must have changed hands. Where the hotel had done maintenance (eg replacing sinks in bathrooms) these have been done with cheaper and/or less "designer" fixtures and fittings. The food was more limited than before (one set menu which didn't change) and very slow service. Hopefully it won't decline further.

Review 6:We'd stayed here previously. The drive there is a bit worrying because it feels like it's going to be awful but as soon as you get through the door it's Just stunning. The rooms are great. The architecture and design and furnishings are really amazing and it's such a relaxing place to stay.

Review 7:Near a mosque so call to prayer in the middle of the night (not sure can get away from this in Marrakesh). Service rather too leisurely.

Review 8:Beautiful hotel, lots of private areas to sit quietly, helpful manager, food and wine satisfactory

Review 9:It was a wonderful experience thanks to the owner Ali and his crew. It exceeded our expectations. Never rated a hotel before, but this was so special that I had to respond. Thank you!!! Best, Leo

Review 10:Certain things were quite expensive - water etc We were a little unlucky with our room. Others in the hotel paid the same price but had better rooms

Review 11:Lovely design and layout to the hotel. Friendly and helpful staff

Review 12:Waiting staff inattentive and unprofessional though understand that the venue has recently changed ownership. Had dinner and breakfast here - food variable quality depending on the dish.

Review 13:Beautifully maintained rooms and garden. Spectacular spot with loads of lovely places to sit and relax. Welcome by reception staff excellent.

Review 14:BeautIful accomodation with authentic morrocan decor and character with fantastic staff. The service here is brilliant and the manager Ali goes above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. Would highly recommend and will most definately be returning soon.

Review 15:We loved Caravan Serai a perfect retreat to get away from the madness of Marrakech. We would highly recommend staying there if you want a chilled holiday.

Review 16:Sometimes the water cold , and the internet kept going off

Review 17:Wonderful setting , very peaceful , really nice food and wine . Very romantic , if you can book a room with your own pool it's delightful .

Review 18:The food was average, the breakfast was just sugar and carbs (honey, marmalade, pancakes, bread), they did provide an omelette but it always seemed to be a little undercooked with shell in it. The pool is not heated. The location of the hotel is in the centre of a poor village and the road to the hotel is very bumpy and dark.

Review 19:The staff were very attentive, everything we asked for the answer was yes. The romantic lighting around the pool, the bed and bedding were great quality. They had wood burning fires in the room which you were provided with wood to burn, very cozy. They had beer and wine which were very good. The manager provided arranged day trips to various locations at reasonable prices.

Review 20:Once your are there it doesn't matter, but it can be a bit tricky (and expensive) to get there. The petit taxi doesn't go there, so you need to either grab a grand taxi or order a taxi from a taxi company. Make sure you have the phone number to the hotel at hand, so directions can be given to the taxi driver. You might be able to ask the hotel to pick you up in the city (shuttle service from the hotel to the city is 75 DH, about 8 Euro).

Review 21:The room was beatiful and very pleasent to be in. It actually consisted of 3 different parts, a sleeping room, a dressing room and a bathroom. The staff was friendly and helpful (and spoke English!). The pool area and the garden behind is very beatiful, both in the daytime and in the evening. Once you are there you dont want to go anywhere else, it seems just to be the best and most restful place to be in Marrakech. Fresh air, good smells from the flowers and garden, and lots of birds! There are a few 'hidden' places on terasses and in gardens where one can relax, find nice shade, and watch the surroundings (shepards with their sheep in the fields etc.). Its situated at the edge of village that is very poor. People are friendly, and it's interesting to have seen it, (although it's not a place where you go for a nice long walk).

Review 22:Approximately a 20 minute drive from Marrakech - whilst it is quiet and set away from the noise and smells of the city, you have to book your taxi in advance.

Review 23:Stunning hotel with large rooms finished in a traditional Moroccan style, each benefitting from a private terrace and the biggest bath I have ever seen! The hotel is arranged around a pool in the middle of a courtyard with the restaurant/bar off to the side. The hotel also has its own private taxi which can be arranged to collect from and take you to the airport, as well as into Marrakech for a small fee. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Review 24:Very difficult to get to. Google Maps placed it next to the dried out river with no roads next to it and even most of the locals misdirected us. The tiny dirt road it is actually on is very narrow above a sheer drop, and the dirt alleys leading there are rocky with some big holes. You get convinced you have been misdirected to the poorest part of a slum. (They plan to build a road soon). The pool is really cold, and it does not look like the water gets changed much. It seems to have been designed for continual overflow and replenishment of water but this is not working. They clean it by manual labour every morning instead which nevertheless leaves sand in it. The wireless is only available in some rooms and keeps disappearing. The service is very slow and they regularly forget the drinks. Cleaning is rather superficial and patchy, and some of the communal areas often don't get cleaned for days.

Review 25:Very stylish, atmospheric building apparently designed by a famous Moroccan architect. Every room is different and usually has a separate sitting room and a balcony as well as a decadently luxurious bathroom. The style is old Moroccan throughout, infused with some African influences but with all the modern amenities. The staff is very polite and helpful. Comfortable, hidden resting places with sofas and books are scattered all across the building and its garden as well as rooftop. You feel like some Arabian prince living in his palace. It is also very quiet and relaxing, lots of space with few guests.

Review 26:Very bad internet connection

Review 27:The old building.....especially at night

Review 28:Caravan serai is the ultimate place to relax! Ali the manager is fantastic, the staff are great and it is all in all a magical experience!

Review 29:Not even water in room to drink, no internet in rooms, no clean bathroom

Review 30:Friendly director

Review 31:Pool, garden, staff, rooms, quite romantic and quiet place!

Review 32:Very help full Staff , friendly people , quiet location , peace full

Review 33:No one spoke English. The Haman and Restaurant were closed. I was the only guest. No one offered to take me into the city. I had to pay for my transfer, even though they said they were included.

Review 34:The bed was comfortable.

Review 35:The electricity in our room kept cutting out and although it was very cold, the central heating was not turned on. There were 2 electric heaters put into our room but the heaters were too much for the electrical system. Once we changed rooms it was fine. The staff were fantastic but there was no choice in menu for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Review 36:Great staff helped us by changing room, and providing fleeces.

Review 37:...Forget about how you get there...but once you are in , just enjoy! The website have to be updated to avoid any misunderstanding...like :there is a free shuttle from/to airport (not true! I was asked to payand we had to argue!)..like : the Hotel offers 3 free shuttles per dayto/from the city (It's only 2!)...like : there is an hamman! (Nottrue! The fact is : there is no qualify personel to run the hamman; inthe past yes!

Review 38:One goes to Cravan Serai for his architecture: typical morroccanarchitecture.
