Somatheeram Resort is on a private beach area on Chowara Beach. It features an herb garden, Ayurveda academy specializing in ancient Indian medical therapies and cultural programs like henna-tattoo design workshops.
On 15 acres of tropical greenery, Somatheeram Ayuveda Resort is 16 miles from Thiruvananthapuram Airport and 6 miles from Kovalam Beach.
Rooms are housed in little wooden huts and come with a balcony overlooking the grounds or sea. Both air conditioning and fan are available. Bathroom toiletries are included.

Review 1：I have a contact with ayurveda earlier, so for me this one is too commercial. Food was good but in fact too heavy, for me too much fat. Not professional yoga practice.

Review 13：The hotel Somatheeram Ayurvedic Resort,kovalam,Kerala, India where I made a reservation had extremely biased receptionists(towards foreigner guests in particular) reflecting a very negative attitude. They give a cold shoulder to Indian Guests. Let alone smile, they won't cater to your requests and requirements. All the while during the stay we aren't treated well enough and sort much like a liability. In no way I'm saying to give less facilities and respect to the foreigner guests but I'm vehemently seeking the staff to treat Indian Guests equally well. Feels like they don't and are used to only playing host to Foreign Guests & completely belittling Indian guests alongside. This, a very unprofessional attitude of the receptionist (male), would make us to never come back and also refrain from recommending this place to anyone in future. Things like these aren't expected from big resorts like these. Also it's a foreigner-centric resort complete with their rate list in Euros, food mostly European making Indian Guests feel like an alien on their own land. The food tasted stale. A huge turn off and ruining our stay at the place utterly. An unfriendly, straight-faced cold welcome is what you'd want the last thing to encounter on your vacation. The ayurvedic clinic staff and their services have the potential to bag a 9 but the negative hospitality of the resort staff(other than the ayurvedic clinic staff ) is really holding it back. Also it says the resort to be a "Beach Resort" whereas in reality it's set up on a cliff which is several kilometers far from the beach and difficult in accessibility. Breach of trust again.

Review 15：We have to pay 20.9% extra-it is very different than the price in Booking.com and very very expensive for this conditions. From the hotel explained us that this is some taxes. Not very comfortable houses and very difficult to go the beach.

Review 17：On our last day we arranged for a treatment at the beauty salon at 5:30pm but when we got there we were told that the salon closed at 6pm and they couldn't take us. We were in the hotel the whole day - it isn't that big and there weren't that many people staying. Someone could have found us to tell us and change the time of the appointment.

Review 26：Set in a lush garden overlooking the ocean, each moment in this resort was a delight. The paths between reception, the huts, the restaurant and the spa/yoga room are lined with beautiful plants and flowers. The friendly staff greeted me with similes and fresh flowers. The spa staff is very professional and the massages delightful - each beginning with a quick consultation with a beautiful young barefoot doctor and a blessing.prayer from the therapist. i enjoyed the evening music sessions.

Review 27：The reception insisted on charging me for 5 nights even though I informed them that I only wanted to stay for 3 nights as soon as I arrived (I could see straight away that it wasn't my cup of tea) and I only booked the day before. I think this is very unreasonable to charge me for the nights I wasn't there. I wasn't the only guest to have this problem. Compared to my other experiences in India I believe it was overpriced. The therapists had a slap dash approach to treatment and burnt me with hot oil. The place had a slight clinical feel too. Overall I think there are far better places to stay and would not recommend Somatheerum.

Review 30：It was an interesting stay as this is a real ayurveda resort where people (mostly foreigners of all nationalities and ages) come to recharge and they undergo treatment for several weeks. For us it was a short relaxation stay (2 nights only) but we tried also the authentic massage. Also, food was good, mostly vegetarian but a lot of special dishes.

There is a tiny pool which, given the heat and the ferocity of the sea, is a definite plus. Food fantastic. All in all good value.

Review 72：Location: 4km south of Kovalam beach, easily reached by rickshawsoutside the resort there were a couple of souvenir shops, and littleelse. Room: spacious clean comfortable. Restaurants: good food, sameprice as in Kovalam,very slow service. No alcohol. Beach: difficultaccess from the resort. It is easier to walk 10 main to the twinresort of manutheram and access it from there. You will be providedwith parasol and sunlounges. Towels are reused during the day so bringyour own. There are no bars/cafés. You can buy fresh fruit fromthe locals.
