Reviews for The Leela Kovalam Beach

Review 1:The cost of everything in the complex was very high. A person staying in such a large complex fails to experience the real India. It feels like staying in an over secure bubble.

Review 2:Location and a good range of facilities are very good. The staff are very attentive to all needs of guests.

Review 3:The service doors close to the room’s should be closed. The doors at the elevator should be clean several times a day when high season.

Review 4:The settings are very beautiful. The sea there is the only place where one can swim in the Kovalam Beach area because of it is a protected bay. Not too far is an area where schools bring their children to play by the sea. Beauty and Joy. The swimming pool is very nice and the personal taking care of the guests are extremely kind and correct. A gentleman called Kumar is ready to help children and everyone by the poolside. I have been several times at this hotel and the personal is very nice.

Review 5:- Had to rely on buggy service as I had my elderly parents with me. Was made to wait once for more than half hour (for breakfast trip to restaurant with my dad aged 90 due to which we had to rush thro the breakfast before the buffet closed) & another instance for over 20 mins (during checkout). When I complained at the reception they told me that the buggy had come on time but I still don't know when & where as we waited at the room door for it - Warm welcome on arrival but no niceties on departure. almost walked out on our own

Review 6:Excellent location & facilities

Review 7:Be careful which room you book! Our "superior double room", was 30 sqm (not 46 as state on Booking as well as on the hotel's web site), including hallway and bathroom, leaving us approximately 15 sqm of living space! The ceiling was extremely low, less than 2 meters high in some places and max 2.30. Very dark. Like a shoebox! (I suppose the club rooms are better.) Some people in the staff were really nice (manager at restaurant for example) but in general the service was really bad (several times even rude!) for a hotel of this class and price! Nothing like the friendliness and happy people we met in India. The "private beach" is a small spot in the corner of a local beach which is noisy and dirty. Tennis court old and dirty as well as the rackets and balls. Ridiculously expensive. A simple pizza by the pool costs between 10 and 13 Euros!!! Absolutely not worth the money! We had planned to stay 5 nights but checked out after 2. Will not return.

Review 8:The view from the pool and restaurant area is amazing. Nice breakfast buffet.

Review 9:Luxury Tax and Service tax on everything without notice initially. End bill was unexpectedly huge When you call reception at times quite rude and took $5AUD an hour for wifi. I have travelled to a lot of places of varying standards and this is the most expensive I've ever seen.

Review 10:Room cleaning team were amazing and very friendly. Manager on duty was also good to hear our concerns and rectify a particular situation Food at restaurant was good

Review 11:Lots if crows disturbing us during Bfast and very noisy neighbors who came in a group.

Review 12:As we stayed at the Club rooms , The staff at The Cafe , were very good in their personalized service to both of us. They even organised a birthday for my wife and we were very touched. I would recommend to everyone to come to this resort. I think it is a world class resort and the best we have stayed so far

Review 13:Perfect location, quiet, lovely pool. After spending the first week or so of our holiday running around Delhi, Agra, etc. it was just what we needed. They also organised a backwater boat trip, which was fabulous. Very well organised hotel and the staff were great.

Review 14:The staff at the beach restaurant seemed very unhappy and ill tempered, we did not appreciate all the cliff edge tables in the bar apparently being reserved but left empty during happy hour so we had to argue for a table with a view

Review 15:The views from the hotel and dining room are awesome the swimming pool at the hotel was very good I especially appreciated the 10 minute rule governing the use of the sun loungers that is if you leave it for more than 10 minutes your towel and belongings are removed I wish more hotels would implement this

Review 16:The area around the hotel there is nothing there. Nothing to do but stay in the hotel, for the price you pay for this hotel I thought it would of been in a spectacular area honestly you walk outside all there is dirt and shacks We had to catch the next flight back It was that bad

Review 17:That we got out quickly

Review 18:We didn't liked the food there. We few times asked for non-spicy food, but cook anywhere had put there chilly (for the better taste, because otherwise it will be not tasty!!!) Also be aware!!! Do not keep any valuable things in your room! At the first day of our staying when we went swimming we left watches and after we came back they were missing (after cleaning).. Also a big minus is that internet is not free, but you need to pay for it (and not a small amount). Also was very annoying a mosque that was nearby (be aware, that at 5 am you will definitely woke up!)

Review 19:It is a perfect location! Place is amazingly beautiful, clean and it has a private beach (where only residence can enter it)!!! In its territory there are peacocks (more than 24) who you can feed from your hand! It has really a big territory, so you can walk around, few pools and very beautiful view from the cliff on the ocean (especially stunning is a sunset)!

Review 20:The hotel's private beach is not really private and there are many local people roaming around, plus it is relatively small. Lighthouse beach (5 minutes away from the hotel) is a nicer though also quite crowded place.

Review 21:The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location and especially the infinity pool in the club area are amazing. The hotel organized backwater trip (Poovar) was absolutely worth it!

Review 22:The garden view pavilion rooms are in close vicinity to a mosque and a temple, without adequate sound proofing. Which means you have to put up with religious songs from 5am to 10am and 5pm to 8pm from the temple; and 5prayer calls a day from the mosque. Really something you don't want to put up with during a laid back holiday. Also the private beach is just a small 50 metre stretch, not more.

Review 23:The staff, restaurants and the room were all impeccable.

Review 24:the interiors in the club room were not upto 5 star standard, no bathtub in washroom, basically they cannot be classified as club room but just a superior room , needs lot of renovation in interiors with a bathtub compulsory.the beach room were too conjested and the height of ceiling too low with poor interiors .

Review 25:property good , speciality restuarant good food and service , sky bar good drinks, service and good ambience ,

Review 26:The hotel was very comfortable, clean and had excellent facilities. The staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. They helped me organise a surprise private dinner on the beach and it was perfectly organised. The private beach and infinity pool were wonderful and the spa facilities very relaxing.

Review 27:Service (beverage and food) is always an issue at Leela. It can be improved as it is not aligned with five stars hotel standards.

Review 28:The property, all the facilities, the comfort of the room and the view, staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 29:I did not like the bed (much too hard) and i did not like the fact that although i was out of my room for almost the total day saturday my room was not cleaned. Furthermore i did not like the stay dry day on Saturday while i really wanted a glass of wine.

Review 30:I liked the service provided by the people at the counter desk and furthermore i loved the Spa

Review 31:The food is not that great. Not bad, but not of the standard of the rest of the hotel

Review 32:The location is awesome. The service is outstanding. The infinity pool is fantastic. The rooms are really comfortable and the beach is a nice place to relax

Review 33:The Booking.com portal must ensure that the customers do not face any nasty surprises. I included my daughter as a child in the booking process. That inclusion/booking should have ensured that she gets all the perks/ facilities, like free breakfast, etc just like the 2 primary adults. But unfortunately, the online booking portal doesn't ensure the same......and the customers get to learn about it on arrival at the hotel property. The glitch must be taken care of.

Review 34:Very nice hotel, belonging to a well-established group. Location is great and the architecture is splendid.

Review 35:Very poor communication by telephone & email leading up to our check-in. Room was not available until 1hour45mins AFTER check-in time (on my wedding day!!)

Review 36:Good provisions are exceptional

Review 37:club room swim pool is private, but some people seeon online view of hotel club room swim pool so plz mention in online that club room swim pool only for them but not for superior room nd other.i have dispoint

Review 38:As a gift we the senior citizens got very bad stress on our leisure tour

Review 39:every thing is good if end is good but here before chake out bill counter spoil everything.

Review 40:As we had room on club wing, we tried the restaurant on that wing. The service was very slow and there were not many choices. So we decided to go to "The Terrace" restaurant located next to main swimming pool. terrace had better service and choices of food.

Review 41:the location was awesome. We booked a room on the club wing of the hotel which is right next to the sea. Had a nice beautiful view from the balcony.

Review 42:The hotel has a good location and nice beach but genarally it is a old hotel. We didn´t like the room cleaning and there was still something in the our room which remaining previous guest. We booked superior sea side room but first they gave us club room with garden wiev and they said that it was upgrade(!!)room so of course we didn´t accept and they gave our room.

Review 43:We liked the wiev of sea from our room, beach and good breakfast

Review 44:Nothing in particular. Just that the kovalam beach is a rocky beach with very little sand front. Not to blame Leela for this.:-)

Review 45:The Staff at Leela kovalam are just superb. Especially the Staff at Terrace restaurant . Chef Anand and his team at the Tides restaurant did a great job. Hospitality at it best !!.

Review 46:The pool is in a poor state of repair, tiles are coming off and algae is growing inside. Our son cut his finger badly while playing there. The beach is filthy with little effort from staff to clean up. Very few eating options.

Review 47:The staff were very friendly and given the number of complaints we made, they tried to accommodate us as best they could. The setting of the hotel is very impressive.

Review 48:Deluxe rooms are not nice. That´s why we upgraded to Club. Staff is not instructed well. We needed to remind them often to bring salt & pepper, a spoon to a cup of tea and other things which normally should go without saying. Orders during the meals are taking too long. Kerala is planning to be a dry state. That's why you have several "dry" days where you can't get alcoholics. All nice dining facilities / bars are closing already at 2200 which is disappointing because you can't enjoy to have a drink in the cooler night. The prices for food and drinks are unreasonable high. The so called beach is a a small strip full with fisherboats in the near of an shabby mosque at the same beach. The pictures in booking.com of the beach creating the perception that there is a long private beach which unfortunately not exist. The Arjuveda Centre is a very nice location, the treatment is good but prices are also totally unreasonable.

Review 49:Fantastic location.

Review 50:Quoted one rate in writing then charged different rate. Check in process was very long. The check in manager was the only down side to this experience. The property dumps their trash such as paint cans and discarded equipment over the wall onto the cliffs which falls into the sea.

Review 51:The staff. The room. The amazing view from my club suite (worth the few extra dollars). The flute player under my balcony. The open air bar. The golf cart ride to the beach. (bring swim goggles for beautiful underwater views). The staff. The staff. The staff. I also hired a driver named Vinish who can be reached via the hotel. Low cost per day and enhanced my experience for tour guide, transport and security.

Review 52:Booked Room was not ready for occupation and staff came for filling the refreshments , mini bar after we occupied . Room space is very limited though we booked superior deluxe sea facing

Review 53:Good ambience

Review 54:Paying extortionate prices for water at meals when on pricy full board package. Bar also very pricy.

Review 55:The location and the food. Staff very friendly, much better than previous visit.

Review 56:My fault but room noisy as near lift and house keeping room. Should have said something before as I know they would have sorted it. It is a resort so expect to play resort prices. E.g. Water 200 irn but now we are down the coast it's 20 irn. Food 700 irn a dish down the coast 150. However the food was lovely. But it is everywhere so far...

Review 57:This is one of the rare places on earth that you will never forget. Beautiful view from the infinity pool. Very relaxing resort. Buggies to and from beaches etc. Lovely private beach. Food great. Service great. Would return

Review 58:during rain there was a temporary disconnection of the phone service but was regained soon..so no worries..

Review 59:loved everything about it..nothing could make it more better..

Review 60:Housekeeping is a bit sloppy and forgets ...needs to be improved. Doesn't match up the standards of Leela...

Review 61:Lovely location and over all good facilities.

Review 62:no drinks was served in the beach restaurant , however they brought from the restaurant upstairs . the prices for drinks was unreasonable.

Review 63:The location was excellent. the view from the bedroom balcony (sea view) was exquisite. The food especially the sea food was very good.

Review 64:waitstaff during dinner and lunch buffet could have been more attentive. I waited far too long to simply get a water refill and getting my bill also took too long. perhaps it was because I was a solo traveler but still that's not an excuse.

Review 65:the buggy staff was wonderful. really friendly and helpful bunch of guys and they were always quick to pick me up and take me where I needed to go on the grounds.

Review 66:expensive (at booking.com the price was initially lower than it appeared to be), dirty and small private beach, mosquitos, poor buffets (almost no seafood and international cousine but many things are spicy and specifically Indian), poor kids' entertainment

Review 67:swimming pool, gym, location, helpful personell

Review 68:Private Beach very small & lots of fisherman Sea view rooms had a damp smell

Review 69:Beach- good for a swim View from the room Staff /Service was excellent Raju from reception provided excellent service Close to tourist sites

Review 70:I guess I came at the wrong time as it was raining and I didn't get to enjoy the beautiful scenario as much, I would choose a better climate to visit the next time

Review 71:The entire resort was excellent, I loved the ambience and facilities, the prompt response and the staff were extremely nice

Review 72:Wifi Should be complimentary and Happy Hours must be extended throughout the day to Club Guests

Review 73:The Club Rooms and the view from there is outstanding, if you are planning to stay at Leela you must ask for CLUB ROOMS, the staff at front office was amazing especially and particularly ARUN ! Great Property!!

Review 74:Having had an amazing stay at Leela Goa we were expecting the same type of experience but were bitterly disapointed: 1)Rooms are a bit old and we got a lot of mosquitoes as doors dońt shut properly and dońt have nets 2) pool area is a bit small and beach part is very tiny and not so nice 3) service was terrible as we were promised babysitting services in the evening and did not get it, waited 2hours to get a yougourt for our child, were not even able to get mashed patatoes for our kod as was not "on the menu", never got our terrasse light repaires or the outdoors mosquitoe repellent we were promised... And other small things I won't mention. We were told that "we will make it up to you" bit no gesture was made. This was not up to the Leela standard and would recommend to go to Taj or other luxury resorts in Kovalam instead

Review 75:Ok location and nice chinese restaurant

Review 76:Check in and check out that took FOREVER while being cooked in AC-less area!, roach infested rooms, run down bathrooms and the place generally looking aged, harassment by vendors in so called "private" beach, general feeling of insecurity in the sea facing cottages, and .... well the old charm is simply not there. Next time, we will check out other resorts nearby.

Review 77:The location is still fabulous!

Review 78:Swimming pool doesn't have change room nearby// health club not adequate//lack of steam bath/Jacukzi// house keeping staff not alert//

Review 79:Excellent view//

Review 80:Property is very good. Room was excellent with a great view. Staff was very good. I was well received at the airport and then at the hotel check in was very easy and comfortable thanks to Ms Athira. Akhil made sure I was very comfortable in the restaurant and George served some very good mojitos at the pool. All in all it was a great holiday and I look forward to going back again

Review 81:Leela property is very good though there is hardly any beach and that was disappointing. Staff were very good except the one person who was there at the checkout as he did not adjust the advance which even after a month I am not aware if it has been refunded back to my card or not

Review 82:Surrounding hotels inside plot need to put more lights & luminous for safe /decoration purposes

Review 83:Every one very respective & smiles safe, secure & compliments cost are genuine I will keep on refer everyone

Review 84:We were made to sit for nearly half an hour while they took ID cards of me, my wife and even demanded one from our daughter. Isnt the ID of one person enough? What if my wife was not carrying her ID? Mildly irritating way to start. Doors, knobs etc were worn out and were old in our room Room size and toilet size was just okay / comfortable. When you consider the fact that this is The Leela and that you are paying a premium, the size, quietness and comfort level is not what it should be. The so called private beach had local people coming in for fishing and smoking between the rocks. There is a Mosque a little away from the hotel. I respect all places of worships. But there is is no logical reason for it on a beach. I feel that the Mosque may have been built by the nearby business complex owners so that the Government will not touch their probably illegal construction, close to the sea. Anyway, mildly irritating to listen to morning prayer calls on a BEACH RESORT The uniforms of many staff members looked unclean and sweaty. Okay, I understand people sweat. But a premium hotel operating in a somewhat warm country should provide fresh dress to their staff twice or thrice a day.

Review 85:The hotel is located in one of the best spots in Kovalam, near Trivandrum, Kerala. Nice weather - not cold, not overly warm Generally warm and friendly staff

Review 86:Drinks prices absolutely ridiculous, a coke was 250 when outside the hotel was 20!! Lack of choice for food, fresh fish not readily available despite being next to the sea, ended up having pizza which was nice but not what you would expect to have to order at a five star hotel

Review 87:Facilities were excellent and the location was good, the room was advertised as being 435m but was actually only 45sqm - a bit different!!

Review 88:My only hitch was that the room was a bit small for a family of four and if we kept the doors open ,people walking by could easily peek into our room without even trying to pry,as the bed faces the door.

Review 89:Leela Hotel at Kovalam is located on a cliff top right next to the beach, overlooking the Arabian sea.The hotel was that it was immaculately maintained and the service staff was very attentive to our needs and we needed a lot of extra towels, glasses, toiletries and the list goes on,as we were travelling with kids. What we loved most about the property was the view from any part of the property was breathtaking. The property is huge and there are chauffeur driven buggies to take you to and froth, but we preferred to walk as the walk was laden with beautiful views and serenity. Our accommodation was in Superior sea view villa. The doors to which used to open into the view of the sea.It had a step down bath tub(which my kids absolutely loved) and an open shower area. Also our porch had two garden chairs and a table ,giving us a beautiful sit out option. The property has two pools ,an area dedicated to kids(with all books, toys, games) and a state-of-the-art spa. When we booked the room, they gave us an all inclusive package with meals, and at 12k per night(including taxes)It was reasonably priced. If you are staying in the club rooms ,you have access to the best views, services and a private infinity pool and deck. This is an option I would definitely consider the next time we stay with them.

Review 90:Maybe the interiors could have been better .... you should provide a two seater sofa and the toilet doors should be easy to operate

Review 91:The ambiance and the food

Review 92:Noisy rooms being on the -1 floor next to a kitchen entrance

Review 93:Great location, great staff, great food.

Review 94:rooms were a bit Cramped.

Review 95:The view from the Club rooms is simply breath taking.

Review 108:Awsome property....wit private beach..buggy service to explore the property

Review 109:Internet was not included in the rate...and it was priced at an hourly rate.

Review 110:Unbeatable location and excellent staff (typical Leela hospitallity)

Review 111:The food was too expensive

Review 112:no private beech
