Reviews for Acorn Lodge Gatwick
Review 1:Didn't think much of the food. No vegan dinner options except a side salad and some chips! After-dinner decaf coffee turned out to be instant (could have had the same in our room for free and saved a fiver!) Continental breakfast minimal (no croissants, just toast).
Review 2:Good location, handy to airport, on bus route. Nice to have a bar and restaurant on site, as we were travelling on foot. Also appreciated the courtesy car as we had an early flight out. Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Review 3:collecting car at other hotel staff not all that customer friendly ,although it was very early in the morning.
Review 4:very convenient for airport .friendly.staff. Bus pick up driver very good ,we had met him twice previously .man from luthania. ( Excuse spelling).
Review 5:Not so much a criticism, but something to be aware of. I had a great little room way up in the attic. It looked newly refurbished and was all I needed. However, it's a bit of a climb to get up there, the room has a number of steps once you're inside and the sloping roof restricts the amount of the room that is really usable. I was on my own, there for just a night and am able-bodied enough to get my luggage up and down. For someone with mobility issues, the room would have been a problem. Indeed for a couple or more than one night it would have been cramped. As I say, not so much of a criticism, more something to be aware of. Perhaps specify that you don't want this room if you think it might be an issue. Aside from that, very happy and would stay again!
Review 6:Great location and ease of transfer to airport. Transfer timing was spot on both directions. Car collection, from the sister hotel, was faultless.
Review 7:The prices have crept up a little with the add ons for breakfast and transfers.
Review 8:We have stayed at Acorn Lodge many times, great b&b for overnight stay before our flight. Good breakfast and everything spotlessly clean.
Review 9:The curtain track stuck, and the ( nice ) curtains fell off, and then the curtain could not be closed. The comedy shower that emptied on top of my head with cool water, in a small cubicle
Review 10:A good location, nice details like fresh flowers in the restaurant, luxurious, heavyweight towels in the en suite, the menu and food, the friendly and humorous welcome. Comfortable double bed room.
Review 11:Nothing bad all good
Review 12:All the staff are very friendly and very helpful ,we have used the acorn lodge 4/5 times now and will be booking up again very soon. Thanks
Review 13:My car wasn't delivered to the hotel and so I had to take the shuttle to Gatwick terminals to pick up various guests before going to another hotel location to collect my car - not fun after a very tiring flight and a long drive to do
Review 14:Room v basic. En suite v small with shower too small for me to use. Breakfast was rushed, cooked part served before I had chance to finish cereal. Maid 'walked in' on us in room at 9.30. Stairs to side entrance & car park v narrow to negotiate with case.
Review 15:Transfer to airport worked well.
Review 16:Family room very small and cramped with bunk beds. Tiny bathroom with only shower - would expect bath for children. Twin room had bad drainage smell. Paying for parking whilst resident £6 for each car for one night - £18.
Review 17:Triple Room comfortable with large clean bathroom.
Review 18:Very arrogant and rude staff on the phone when we called for pick up on return journey. Car wasn't ready when we arrived at the Sister hotel, and the desk staff didn't seem too bothered that I had to go and collect my own car in the pitch black car park at 3am after a long trip. What used to be included in the price of the stay, is all now being charged extra at a higher rate. Wont be staying there again!
Review 19:Reasonable rooms, water temperature very difficult to control.
Review 20:The only thing was the breakfast times - there could have been a later breakfast than 08:45 for people who maybe arrived in the early hours from their holiday that day like we did but its a very minor thing.
Review 21:Everything!!!! The staff were very friendly & helpful, we had an excellent deal on car parking aswell as staying over it was perfect as so near airport & fabulous drop off & collection to the airport i really couldnt fault a thing. The breakfast is wonderful too. Have stayed before & will definitely be staying again.
Review 22:Mattress spring sticking up,so impossible to get a nights sleep. Shower cold.breakfast minimal as we had an early flight, but had paid for full breakfast. Shuttle to airport £ 12 ,which is more than a normal taxi. A rip off. Would never stay there again.
Review 23:Nothing
Review 24:We upgraded our room to a "family room"(room 27)...heaven help a family staying overnight in that room as it was so small.....with a tiny shower to match. Annoyed at having to pay an extra £6 parking on top of the £74 for our one night stay. The cooked breakfast was awful....we will definitely not be staying here again.
Review 25:Good location for Gatwick Airport. The beds were very comfortable.
Review 26:Bed was exceptionally hard and lumpy in the first room we stayed in. This was in a family room. On second visit we had a different room and the bed was fine.
Review 27:Breakfast & Dinner, and airport parking
Review 28:On our return we phoned for a pickup, when the bus arrived the driver had no list of who he was collecting, passengers who arrived after us just jumped in front leaving no room for us. The driver called for another bus which arrived about 20 minutes later. It was for the Cambridge Hotel/Acorn Lodge, the driver was quite surly and the bus itself was in a pretty grubby state. It would help your drivers if they knew the names of the people they are collecting, particularly when flights arrive close to each other.
Review 29:Complete mess .Mimi bus not ordered. Guests in danger of being late for flights.I was in serious danger of missing train for which I could only travel at set. times,
Review 30:Breakfast.Value fror money excellent
Review 31:Transfer back from airport was by a very surly obnoxious driver who did not seem to know which hotel my car was at !!
Review 32:Used the hotel for 1 night stay and 14 nights car parking while on holiday room was very good as was breakfast and transfer to airport.
Review 33:When we returned to pick up our car from the sister hotel the car was in a right mess. Obviously parked under trees, there was bird mess all over the windscreen and bonnet and the car generally was filthy. Not impressed at all. Won't be using again for this reason.
Review 34:The location and comfort of the hotel. The fact that it offered park and stay.
Review 35:No railings on entry up steps was difficult as we are quite elderly. Basically the room was rather small, just enough for a double bed - Room was stuffy - the shower was quite difficult to use and the wet room floor rather slippery - insufficient grab rails.£6 to park car overnight was declined so parked elsewhere. That is unfair.
Review 36:The breakfast
Review 37:Was in room that had limited headroom, 3 sloping walls and as I'm nearly 6 ft tall banged my head a few times
Review 38:Transport to from Gatwick very good and also a short walk into Horley.
Review 39:Was told car would be taken to sister hotel but booked this deal because parking was on site. Explained this to manager and car stayed at Acorn Lodge. Apparently booking.com don't show this clearly where it is perfectly clear on other deals. This needs addressing to avoid further issues.
Review 40:Close to Gatwick, comfortable hotel, booked overnight stay and 8 days parking for reasonable price.
Review 41:The meals are good value and well cooked. The beds are very comfortable and even though we didn't have much time in it we slept well. Also the airport drop off and pick up are punctual.
Review 42:Confusion with booking at reception especially to do with transport to and from airport
Review 43:comfortable and very clean bed. Breakfast and dining room staff good
Review 44:Attitude of staff, not welcoming at reception or the driver of our return trip from the airport
Review 45:Location to Airport and the facility of a restaurant, also the facility of car parking
Review 46:If you want to get a good nights sleep find somewhere else it's right by a junction and police and ambulance station going by the hundreds of sirens every few minutes not exaggerated
Review 47:Sadly the bathroom was a wet room and really flooded. Also we had a very tiny sink which was a little tricky to deal with.
Review 48:Quiet room, nice clean sheets and towels. Good breakfast quickly served.
Review 49:1. No beakfast facilities for early departures, meals do not start until 6 am. 2. Very long 45 minute+ wait for pickup on 6th July 2015 from North terminal
Review 50:very convenient for both Gatwick terminals
Review 51:The car pick up was not what we expected. We had to call for a minibus when we got to the pick up point and were then packed with a few other people and suitcases like sardines into the bus. The driver spent most of the drive back to a completely different hotel texting. Our car had been left under a tree and was covered in leaves and dirt. Overall this did not ruin our view of this hotel.
Review 52:We had a fantastic over night stay. We had two seperate rooms and the first room me an my partner were given was very small. We queried this and were given a much bigger better room with a beautiful bathroom. Breakfast was extremely good considering it was included. Overall pleasant stay.
Review 53:We left our car at the hotel while we went abroad. The shuttle service was very good. On our return we were dismayed to find our car caked in birds droppings! The hotel really needs to address this problem asap!
Review 54:The booking in procedure was very quick and efficient. There was a nice set menu for dinner at a reasonable price. The room was comfortable and clean.
Review 55:Huge sign on room door. PROHIBITED Staff defending policy, concerned about red wine and curry, who does that. Only hotel I have ever visited saying this. Bad impression.
Review 56:Leaving early in the morning. Good little hotel at a cheap rate, easy access to Gatwick and a GREAT pub a block away by the church.
Review 57:Nothing to report
Review 58:The food was absolutely great. We stayed for one night only but found the staff friendly and helpful. The room was a bit small but that is not a criticism as it was expected. Airport transfers were sorted by the girl at the desk we didn't need to do a thing. We would definitely use again.
Review 59:Couldn't turn on the shower - too tightly turned off!!!
Review 60:Facilities including pick up and drop off worked as expected. Clean room, reasonable food on offer.
Review 61:Only one problem being at the front of the hotel there was a bit of noise from the road junction
Review 62:Good in all ways Very helpful Good breakfast to start the day Taken to the airport with time to spare
Review 63:Having to spend a minimum of £10 on a card to buy a drink, as most of your quests would be couples
Review 64:A very nice clean room, restaurant and seating area. A relaxing atmosphere
Review 65:We had booked economy room for just overnight but did not think the "loft room" would be one in which we could not stand up straight. It was almost a comedy doing anything from showering, ( as a man) trying to stand to use the toilet, and getting dressed in the a.m. kneeling down. This is no joke however when one comes in from a long flight. No complaint to the desk gave us any satisfaction.
Review 66:Clean
Review 67:There were 3 of us and we had asked for 3 single beds. The room we got was for two people and they put a cot in between the two twin beds. It was very tight and you could not move around easily. The one bed was right up against the bathroom door. You could only get Wifi if you went out and stood at the top of the stairs.
Review 68:It is located close to the Gatwick airport which is great if you need to catch a flight.
Review 69:wifi was spotty at best.
Review 70:Tanya, the young woman at the reception desk was very friendly and ultimately helpful. The food was great, fried brie, who would've known it could be that good. I can't wait to make the Acorn Lodge Hotel, a destination rather than a layover.
Review 71:The for someone to move my car to a different location while we where away.
Review 72:Staff where excellent, helpful and friendly and the airport shuttle was appreciated.. Restaurant and food was very good.
Review 73:Having a front of house bedroom is rather noisy and the flashing traffic lights are a disturbance
Review 74:The facilities suit me. and I know my car is in safe hands whilst away. The pick ups from the airport always run smoothly.
Review 75:Everything! The room was small and overlooked both the very busy main road and side road. The mattress on the bed had springs coming through, so much so that I had to use a pillow to lie on to prevent them sticking into my chest! Breakfast was cereal and 2 slices of undercooked toast! Finally, was taken to South terminal and not North terminal, as requested!!
Review 76:Only the convenience of getting to and from Gatwick airport.
Review 77:The hotel is right on a very busy road junction which makes it awkward for parking and leaving with the car. Although we parked on the front forecourt, they have a car park at the rear with more spaces but the road junction would still test the patience of a saint to get out onto the main road
Review 78:considering its the outskirts of London we thought over all it was good value for money and would return. The breakfast was spot on, and the staff friendly and helpful
Review 79:A fantastic place to stay! Beautiful property, close to Gatwick airport. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast fantastic. Convenience of restaurant and bar at property open late
Review 80:N/A.
Review 81:We have stayed here before, so knew what to expect. Its a no brainer -no worries of where to park and how to get to the airport. It is all done for you so you can just relax. Definitely would recommend
Review 82:We were bothered many times due to a faulty fire alarm. The bar staff didn't understand English. I got charged 5 pound for 2 cans of coke. They closed the doors at 6pm to the smoking area ???
Review 83:The English breakfast was delicious.
Review 84:Double room was only about 9 feet square, but supposed to be "upgraded" from Economy, which we had booked. Mattress had seen better days. The car was not at Acorn Lodge, but we had to be taken to the other hotel and search for it in the large car-park. Wi-fi was free, but very poor connection, had to go to public rooms to get it. Previously we had paid only for transfer to airport, but this time also charged for return.
Review 85:On previous stays here, we had been completely satisfied with the service and comfort, but not this time. Charges had also gone up.
Review 86:Cramped conditions in bedroom . We requested ground floor as we had heavy luggage . We couldn't move in room as it wd only suit one person . Shower tiny and poor and hot tap at sink broken .
Review 87:Food excellent
Review 88:The fixed shower head is somewhat inconvenient. And remember to bring your own hairdryer.
Review 89:The restaurant serves very tasty food. Try the steak or chicken and feta salad.
Review 90:The breakfast service stopped at 09.00. Even an extra half hour would better for those arriving late the night before.
Review 91:The staff were friendly and very helpful . Breakfast was excellent, with free range eggs. The on-site restaurant food was of a high standard and very good value for money.
Review 92:Problem on return with the collection from the airport. Mini bus turned up and there was too many people. Some who turned up after others got on the bus. Not very well organised.
Review 93:Room 32 is in the 'loft' area, i have a sore head now, after banging my head from the minute you enter the room! and im only 5'8''!!!
Review 94:freindly staff, good location.
Review 95:The room was cold on arrival. As the heating was on a timer it would notcome on till 5-00pm I asked the receptionist to bring up a heater whichshe did willingly.
Review 96:Good english breakfast and the staff were pleasant and friendly in allareas of the hotel.
Review 97:The location close to Gatwick is excellent for an overnight stay before an early flight. Some car-hire places are actually walking distance. The beds are clean, the shower works and WiFi works. The bar/restaurant is rather old fashioned - feels like a time warp from the 1950s). The only food available is sandwiches which are OK but the bread is the worst sort of plastic fluff and they are expensive. I would suggest going into Horley for a take-away.
Review 98:Have stayed at Acorn lodge many many times over the years it has always had excellent staff, facilities, and all round nice place to start your holiday.
Review 99:The shower was a tiny bit too small, although it was very clean and had a strong supply of hot water. For the area, it's a good price. But still a bit pricey for me personally.
Review 100:The one thing that stood out about this place was the cheerful and helpful staff. Always greeting me with smiles on their faces anytime of the day. The place was clean in general. Food from the restaurant was good too! It was easy to get to, shuttle was convenience. The shuttle driver was also extremely friendly and helpful. Had an overall, very good impression with them.
Review 101:No hot water for early morning shower and suggest bed needs updating
Review 102:Good location, friendly and did what it said it would! Yes I would use again and recommend.
Review 103:Friendly and helpful staff and although space was limited in the bedroom it was clean and comfortable.Very convenient for the airport- Just a pity we left too early to enjoy the breakfast!
Review 104:Downstairs front bedroom was noisy both from other guests going upstairs and road traffic. Curtains would not close, had to ask for large paperclip to hold together. Bed was old and needing replacement. i HAD BOOKED 15 nights car parking and on arrival at hotel was told the car would be taken off site to another hotel. No mention of this on booking confirmation. Also when collecting car from the Cambridge hotel it looked like it had been driven through a field. Mud splatterered up the sides and tyres, where was this vehicle stored??? Would not use again!!!!
Review 105:Hotel is convenient for gatwick airport.
Review 106:Our room was very noisy with constant loud humming from some machinery (possibly heating system) this went on all night, but also the room backed on to kitchen so the noise from a working kitchen was extremely disturbing.
Review 107:Spotlessly clean. Staff very friendly, courteous and super-efficient.. Food very good. Excellent location for Gatwick with swift shuttle service
Review 108:Nothing at all.
Review 109:Nice room (family room for the two of us), perfectly adequate for an overnight stay before early morning flight. Transport to airport on time. All worked well. Would stay again.
Review 110:Quite small room, in slight need of updating, but functional for purpose
Review 111:Pickup and dropoff shuttle (£3 p/p each way) Fine for purpose of overnight airport stay, but wouldn't really use it for any other reason Nice breakfast
Review 112:there is nothing to dislike.
Review 113:The staff and service at Acorn Lodge is always excellent. We always stay here on our travels from Gatwick. The food was superb and great value for money, and the steak was cooked to perfection.
Review 114:didn't realise I had to pay for parking, thought that was in the price
Review 115:the staff were friendly & helpful, food was cooked to order and quickly served to the table, which is good when dinning on your own. nice and relaxed bar area. warm bedroom
Review 116:this is the 8th time I have stayed here. on the very first occasion I saw my car in the local petrol station the following morning leaving quite fast. on the fourth visit we had a puncture and the wheel arch had been scraped ( Same Wheel) last time the front grill was pushed in a scratch on the rear bumper loading bay and the Cover for the steering column was broken off with the plastic grommets still in the foot well. yet they never did any of this Will never go back
Review 117:the convenience of position is great and the evening staff with our late arrival were tremendous.
Review 118:Location for traveling out of Gatwick, everything operates like clockwork, breakfast, transfers and friendly staff and facilities , a real gem at an amazing price for London
Review 119:The room was really noisey as it had NO double glazing, we were at the front of the building facing the very busy road. The bed was two singles pushed together to make a very large double but then the sheets didn't fit. The mattress was not comfortable because of the join and very hard
Review 120:The hotel was in a good position for the airport and great walking distance from town centre
Review 121:This is the 5th time we have stayed in the hotel and usually the staff bend over backwards to help. This time felt that everything was just a bit of an effort for them. Bedroom on first occasion was really spacious but each time our allocated room has been smaller and this occasion I had to climb over my husband to get out of bed because the four suitcases had to be stored in the only available space at the bottom of the bed and the bed was against the wall at one side. We will look for another hotel next year.
Review 122:Proximity to airport is good. 5 min in transfer bus. Free Telephone at bus stop does not work, so don't rely on that, have their actual number to hand. Rooms are very clean. Like the 6 bells restaurant nearby, which is why we stay at this hotel.
Review 123:The staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is very tasty. The bed was very comfortable and also our room was very clean and warm. The transfer went well and on our return we were meet within 30mins.Our car was looked after. We will be back on our nexts trip when flying out from Gatwick.
Review 124:Unhappy and negative front desk staff Total lack of appreciation that I was to not be able to attend breakfast due to the time of my flight (even though it is included in the price of the room B&B!!) but when I asked if I could have a sandwich to take away in the morning @ 0605am I was informed "NO" as it was a complimentary service and not their fault I was leaving at 0605hrs. i repeat this is a so called B&B the second 'B' meaning breakfast!!
Review 125:driver who picked us up fron gatwick nearly killed us not concerntrating on road drove straight in front of a car into entrance of hotel
Review 126:location and accomodation
Review 127:They move your car to another carpark, not to far but they should make a point of telling you before you book.
Review 128:location, close to airports, free wifi value for money.
Review 129:Room was a little noisy as it faced the main road. Dining room was in the process of being redecorated so there was a smell of paint and some of the tables and chairs were not in use and stacked in the corner of the room. However this was a minor aggravation of a temporary nature.
Review 130:Staff were friendly and helpful. Good location with an excellent shuttle service available between the guest house and Gatwick airport. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was good and if you want an evening meal as we did, there is a good choice of home cooked food on the menu and the portions are very generous.
Review 131:Car park was rathher muddy and poorly laid out which made parking very awkward
Review 132:Nice clean and comfortable rooms and a very pleasant restaurante with excellent inclusive full breakfast and value for money evening menue with a good choice of food, and minibus for airport transferrs
Review 133:First room we were given, the tv aerial socket was hanging out of the wall, so no proper picture. Rooms were very small. Bed was very uncomfortable.
Review 134:Breakfast and moved to a second room quickly.
Review 135:Being told it cost an extra £6 to park our car in the hotel car park for our one night stay. Outrageous! This is hinted at in the listing but not properly explained. Breakfast was very average especially the almost meatless value sausage, room was a bit pokey although with a comfy bed and very spacious bathroom. Staff were fairly friendly but facilities quite basic.
Review 136:Reasonably priced, clean and warm, handily located.
Review 137:- hearing the travelers leaving the hotel in the middle of the night/early morning. - central heating wasnt controlable from the room - the room was either cold or too hot. - they gave us an awful tiny room in the loft, with the shower in the room with the ventilator working constantly, but didnt refuse to switch rooms when we asked them.
Review 138:- friendly staff - very clean - cheap airport shuttle, very friendly driver
The Fine Print
If guests park their car in the Acorn Lodge's car park for longer than booked, GBP 6 extra per day will be charged on top of the total price per stay. Please note that the transfer from and to Gatwick Airport is chargeable per person. The hotel does not permit smoking on the premises.
