Reviews for Diplomat Hotel
Review 1:Too far away from the centre with poor public transport options. Hotel layout with rooms around restaurant and other services made for a lot of room noise
Review 2:Free parking and wifi Room windows that opened
Review 3:We ate at their "Booked" restaurant and had to wait 40 minutes after giving our order for our meal to arrive. This was very difficult with a 7 year old hungry and tired grandchild with us.
Review 4:A very comfortable boutique style hotel with friendly, helpful staff.
Review 5:The hotel needs updating, the leather furniture is worn bare and bathrooms are dated
Review 6:Staff are welcoming and friendly, Loved the open central areas and the book loaning.
Review 7:Please check house keeping - previous guest's rubbishy was left in room on arrival. Also house keeping equipment was left in room on one occasion.

Review 11:It was close to all of Canberra's attractions and restaurants in Manuka, and the staff were helpful.
Review 12:Staff were very helpful. Room was comfortable for overnight stay. The room was on the side closest to the main road, a little bit noisy but it was Ok. Location is excellent for restaurants in Kingston, parliament house and all of the galleries.
Review 13:Everything ........The location , cleanliness, staff , hotel facility , room facility . The hotel will be our destination for the next travel to Canberra for sure . GREAT....
Review 14:The shower temperature was hard to adjust with little cold water. The bed was too hard and both of us woke up with sore backs.
Review 15:The layout of the room and facilities. Great aircon and the room was very clean.
Review 16:The dinner on Saturday night was average. A lot of the specials on the board were not available.
Review 17:The room was very comfortable and spacious. The girl at the desk when we departed on Sunday was fantastic.
Review 18:Need better lighting over the desk. I work 5 to 6 hours in my room at night. Desk lighting is very poor.
Review 19:Staff are excellent. I spent 26 years in Hospitality so am sensitive to good service and demeanour.
Review 20:We booked in via Booking.com, on arrival we were told that your computers had melted down on the 2/12/15, We had NO Room . After much frustration a room was found at your other property on the other side of Canberra.. Meanwhile your staff was checking In other guests.
Review 21:Food quality was very poor and restaurant was way understaffed. Reception staff were disinterested and unhelpful.
Review 22:Parking was easy and convenient.Room was spacious and comfortable Bar service was friendly and efficient.
Review 23:Noise from the kitchen and no cable TV channels. Fridge freezer door was broken and just put inside freezer. Also noise from car park and when staff taking out rubbish.
Review 24:Great ideas vouchers for not using cleaning room service. Also loved the Accessories in bathroom like makeup remover pads. But it was a bit noisy being next to kitchen. However the menu was good. Special acknowledgement to staff member Eddie he was very respectful and I appreciate his service. Also my work acknowledge that the room rate was very reasonable so thank you. Very comfy bed and room. Nellie Flagg
Review 25:I did slip in the shower and came down quite heavily. It was because there was soap at the back of the shower and I was trying to swoosh it down and it became really slippery and I went down. The exhaust in the shower wasn't very powerful either.
Review 26:Loved the buffet breakfast, that you could help the environment by not getting the room cleaned. We used the gym and pool (eventually) and personally, loved the whole book atmosphere of the meeting area. Great location, easy parking, friendly staff.
Review 27:The fact that I offered to produce a medical certificate to not be charged for the first night!
Review 28:Nothing my 6 year old son was to ill having just acquired glangerla fever and we could not travel as he was to ill.
Review 29:The decor was a bit plain, but not offensive. Breakfast was ok. I do like a good fresh croissant which they didn't have- only packaged/ frozen?ones.
Review 30:Located near lots of great restaurants in Manuka and Kingston, which we could walk to. Nice comfy bed, bathroom good and room clean and spacious.
Review 31:None
Review 32:Pleasantness of the staff. Great breakfast. Good parking. Simplicity of check in Dinner at the Sat night function which is why we were in Canberra
Review 33:The reception staff were welcoming and helpful. The design of the hotel is simple and nice. The room was good size, the bed comfortable and relaxing shower.
Review 34:Looking very tired. Only one thin fleece blanket and bed cover, making it quite cold overnight. There was a reverse cycle heater in the room, but it was loud so couldn't be used to heat the room while sleeping. Room service menu was also disappointing.
Review 35:Large room, practical bathroom and free parking. Good location. Has the potential to be a nice hotel.
Review 36:Everything, poor service, room was not serviced on Sunday, slow food service as per 2 hrs for dinner of a 3 course meal...charge 1.5% for Visa if you did not have cash!!! The list goes on, spider webs on the ceiling of room!!!
Review 37:Only where the Hotel is situated!
Review 38:Bed went dippy in the middle which meant a sleepless night also the shower was not set up well and created a huge water mess on the floor
Review 39:Helpful staff
Review 40:Approx. 20 Kanga Cup football bogans invaded the bar area with take away food, swearing and carrying on, children running up and down the stairs, calling out, preventing anyone from using the area, and enjoying a drink before there meal. Also the dinner menu is little more than pub food. Air con is noisy. I won't be back
Review 41:Good facility, close to work site.
Review 42:No bad experience at all
Review 43:Our whole stay was a pleasure, with a friendly greeting on arrival to a gorgeous dinner, a great room and then a lovely breakfast. No complaints at all
Review 44:I put the preference is 1 queen + 1 single, but I only had 1 queen when I checked in. They told me I shall indicate them how many ppl (including children) explicitly. The staff fixed it eventually by adding a single bed.
Review 45:Good price and location.
Review 46:a room safe s need, bathroom lighting over mirror is a hazard to make up.meals whilst very good are overpriced.
Review 47:location size of rooms, undercover parking a must in ACT in winter
Review 48:Cool air from airconditioning ducting provded draught in diningroom.
Review 49:Although small menu, the meals were well prepared and more than adequate.. Minimal number of staff were multiskilled to enable them to cope with a shortage of patrons.
Review 50:When we arrived we were told our room was not able to have 2 adults and 2 kids that there was not room for a fold up bed. This was despite me confirming this with Andrew on Friday morning (maybe thursday morning)... However, we had a room change and this was all sorted out. Not sure why the fans were on in the dining area for breakfast as well as 3 or so scattered heaters on stands.... was really cold and a number of people had thick outdoor jackets with scarfs...... The bar closed at 9.30 pm on a Saturday night
Review 51:The proximity to where we stayed the shower head and pressure
Review 52:I liked the location as I could walk from the station and then walk to the Art Gallery etc. It's a lovely walk along the lake. The Bus Depot Markets are close by, so all in all I would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Review 53:Wi-fi a little flaky, but all ok. Would prefer a King bed rather than Queen, but can't complain.
Review 54:Friendly service, spacious room, good location, plentiful free parking.
Review 55:The wifi was quite slow and patchy.
Review 56:Great location, especially if you are wanting to visit such things as the National Library, National Archives, Parliament Houses etc. it is a short drive to the War memorial. Loved the rom, restaurant was great and the staff were wonderful. We will stay again
Review 57:I have had dinner at the hotel restaurant several times and found the food excellent which as a vegetarian business traveller is not something I can say very often.
Review 58:What's the point of advertising free WiFi if there is no reliable WiFi at all. I chose this venue to access WiFi - heck I would have even paid for it, but it wasn't accessible in my room at all! I commented about it every day, but not all was I offered another room, etc. it's false advertising suggesting that the WiFi is reliable and accessible.
Review 59:Courteous housekeeping staff & relaxing atmosphere. Restaurant served nice food.
Review 60:Bathroom desperately needs exhaust fan as it steams up very quickly, making floor tiles slippery.
Review 61:Good location for sightseeing base. Loved that you an open a window! Fresh air was nice. Generous parking spaces a big plus! Only problem was addressed straight away. Would stay again.
Review 62:Breakfast included, big room, iron didn't work but staff replaced it asap with no fuss. Papers and magazines, and great choice of reading materials provided.
Review 63:Everything regarding our stay at the Diplomat was perfect. Have stayed before and is always a favourite! Convenient location. Walking distance to surrounding parks and eateries. Close to city centre. Staff are really friendly..will return!
Review 64:Two things: I'm used to sleeping on a firm mattress, so the not so firm mattress in the room we had I would change next time. The other thing was the constant sound of a generator just outside our window throughout the night. A check next morning indicated that it was coming from below through an air vent. A different room next time would take care of that probably.
Review 65:Excellent location, interior presents well, reminiscent of the 60's (love the dining and bar area) the staff pleasant and efficient, our room clean and comfortable.
Review 66:Our stay at the Diplomat was very good. The room was large and the beds were very comfortable. I would recommend the restaurant - we were very pleased with our meal. The bikes we hired were good as well ( helmets were in need of replacing though). The hotel is well positioned to all attractions. Would recommend to others.
Review 67:Diplomat is clean, convenient and quietly charming. The ambience is remarkably peaceful and understated. It was a treat to have books available - just for a relaxing browse!
Review 68:The light for the bedroom did not work, also the lamps were difficult to figure out how to turn on. The light in the bathroom was very dim taking a long time to become bright.
Review 69:The comfort of the bed and the design of the room.
Review 70:Rather strange hotel, a loud road outside the windows, and all rooms face a huge atrium with only thin doors. Considering the noise level there, this is rather annoying. The hotel even plays music in the atrium, which can clearly be heard in your room!
Review 71:Free WiFi and free parking are nice.
Review 72:Nothing
Review 73:The guy at reception was lovely, he upgraded our room and gave us a bottle of champagne as it was Valentine's Day! The bed was comfy and the room was huge. The in room spa was lovely!
Review 74:The spa was too rough for me.
Review 75:The bed was so amazingly comfortable. Location of the hotel was good. The restaurant menu could be a little bigger and the spa was a bit too rough for me but otherwise a really great hotel.
Review 76:Food was very dry both lunch and dinner. Also the room was near a very busy roundabout and noisy in busy times.
Review 77:Staff friendly and punctual with service
Review 78:We did not have a car for one day since they couldn't be hired on a Sunday and this was awkward because the hotel is too far away from shops and restaurants to walk.
Review 79:The hotel was uncrowded and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Review 80:nothing really
Review 81:i stayed twice in oct and at christmas visiting family and was very happy with the diplomat.it's close to the station.the rooms are good and the spacious layout is attractive.the staff were friendly and professional.
Review 82:Need to drive to get anywhere as it is not within walking distance of attractions, shops or restaurants. No bath. WiFi didn't seem to work well.
Review 83:Friendly staff, comfortable clean room, easy to find
Review 84:Staff banging doors early hours in the morning, the breakfasts were excellent if you got there early after 8.30 you got the scraps and never saw any one renew or top up the empty and partly empty containers
Review 85:The location, large room ,good parking.
Review 86:On arrival reception tried to bump us from our room, they eventually relented after I insisted I would get the room I ordered. Free wi-fi didnt work,no foxtel as advertised, meal & mini-bar prices were exorbitent, cheaper to eat out.
Review 87:Excellent location for a tourist. Clean room, quiet location, staff were friendly & helpful with maps & guides.
Review 88:N/A
Review 89:Excellent. Staff friendly and very helpful. Great location for our requirements, well maintained and clean. Fantastic breakfast and very good restaurant
Review 90:Just a small complaint but one that needs to be addressed. The hand rails on the staircase leading to the gym and also the staircase leading to the upstairs room were absolutely filthy. Looks like they haven't been cleaned in a while. Something that should be done morning and night. We entered through the garage and the staircase leads to the lobby, to see something so unclean was not a good look. I was unsure what the rest of the hotel would look like. I'm pleased to say everything else was excellent. We will return again so I'm hoping the railings will be sufficiently cleaner.
Review 91:Meals were not great and menu very limited. Wouldn't eat there again. During the evening there was a person with a loud haler outside periodically - thankfully stopped by the time I went to bed.
Review 92:Room had a window which could be opened for some fresh air.
Review 93:Bathroom was a little cramped.Room service menu is pricey with limited options.
Review 94:The hotel was located close to all attractions and the staff were friendly. Free wifi is a plus.
Review 95:Wifi was a bit weak at times.
Review 96:Comfortable bed with high quality sheets. Buffet breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choices even though it was the day before Christmas Eve and extremely quiet. Plenty of free underground parking.
Review 97:What's not to like?
Review 98:The hotel has an excellent location, close to Manuka and Kingston. It is quiet, with a leafy outlook. Is now my go-to hotel in Canberra.
Review 99:Room lighting was perhaps a little dim, but still fine for reading.
Review 100:I really loved staying at the Diplomat and wish I'd had more time there to relax in the book depository. The rooms were great - clean, spacious and very comfortable. If you forgo room service for a day you receive a $10 dining voucher.
Review 101:if we chose to have breakfast elsewhere it was a taxi ride that was necessary given time restraints
Review 102:the hotel was clean and comfortable and the staff were extremely helpful checking in and out and booking our taxis for us.
Review 103:breakfast major letdown with super stale bread en molten butter. also, in the bathroom a bath mat would have been welcomed.
Review 104:loved the spacious room and the super comfy bed.
Review 105:Breakfast was OK but not much choice, The Wifi seemed slow so hard to stream anything The room seemed a bit old but was fine
Review 106:Good undercover parking Plenty of space in the room It was nice to have a kettle Friendly staff Good location for driving around the inner south and the city
Review 107:Location may be a bit far from public transport for those travelling without a car
Review 108:Helpful staff Swimming pool Food at dinner View over dining area from balcony, which was good for watching the party and taking photos (not sure how this worked for those who weren't part of the event!)
Review 109:I arrived at breakfast at 7.30am and found that both the bacon and the scrambled eggs had run out and these were not replaced in the half hour I was at breakfast. Pretty slack I thought.
Review 110:large room, handy to the business appointment I was attending
Review 111:The receptionist on the night we arrived had no welcome in her and I had to initiate the interaction. When my wife organised some room service just after we arrived at about 8pm the same person when asked how long it would take offered the response "as long as it takes to cook it". She seemed lacking in communication skills. NB Other staff were much better, but it did set a certain 'negative' tone.
Review 112:We have stayed here a couple of times now and find it well located, pretty quiet. We stayed a Friday and Saturday night and we were surprised by how 'un-busy' the place was. The availability of free undercover parking is good. The rate we paid booked through Booking.com included full breakfast and was good value; they even managed to provide some gluten free bread at breakfast. The rooms are a good size and comfortable. My wife thinks the showers are one of the best.
Review 113:lighting very dim - hotel & room Wi-Fi didn't work Dining room closed on Sundays - most local restaurants closed so difficult to find a place to eat
Review 114:Staff friendly rooms comfortable fantastic shower
Review 115:WE've stayed there twice now and it is so well located...near Manuka, Kingston and the Fishwyk Markets. The staff are always very good. Quite comfortable rooms.
Review 116:My main reason to book was free wifi. But wifi didn't work at all during my stay. The bin was full of rubbish when I arrived.
Review 117:Friendly staff, big rooms, heated mattress.
Review 118:The WiFi is very, very bad. Just not acceptable anymore to invest so little in it. Poor Wifi is like having a black and white TV set in a room. Dining room staff was very indifferent. Looked as if he would rather be anywhere but there.
Review 119:Quiet room. well appointed
Review 120:The bed was comfortable
Review 121:Friendly staff. Interesting bar and restaurant and good location for our purpose. Plenty of parking on site. Quiet and comfortable room.
Review 122:Getting old.need refurbishments
Review 123:Location
Review 124:Quiet plenty of parking very clean and friendly staff.
Review 125:Bed too soft, not too keen on the shower-in-a-bath arrangement.
Review 126:Good location, undercover parking.
Review 127:They couldn't fix their broken wifi.
Review 128:Confusion over pre-payment for 3 breakfast vouchers
Review 129:Convenience to places destined for our visit to the area
Review 130:View was not very nice from king spa suite, could hear people through walls.
Review 131:Friendly staff, amazing bedroom, great bar
Review 132:Spacious rooms
