Reviews for Gatwick Southbourne Guest House
Review 1:Lovely welcoming, ideal location. Good breakfast. Very reasonably priced. Courtesy car to and from airport. Ground floor room ideal for people with physical difficulties.
Review 2:No big living room to hang out in.
Review 3:Delicious and substantial cooked breakfast. Scrupulously clean and orderly English B&B. Friendly and personable staff for a largish place. (For those who grumble - look: it serves airport passengers - you're not in some cutesy inn in the Lake District!) It serves its designated market admirably. Reservations and airport pickup all done very professionally. Will return if need arises again for transit stay near airport. Horley is the town, you can walk to its High Street and explore/eat if you are bored. It's seriously not bad for being stuck near Gatwick!
Review 4:We arrived very late at night. The arrangements for getting in were very straightforward and convenient. Excellent cooked breakfast in the morning, and Tony could not have been more helpful in his travel suggestions.
Review 5:There was no heat on in the breakfast room and the little snug adjoining it, so I found it way too cold to eat breakfast in there. (I understand it had been inadvertently turned off...not so great in December! ) However, I took my fruit and yogurt to my room, and later, when I had to wait in the 'snug' due to a late departure, a heater was provided for me, so all was well! This was my only negative experience!
Review 6:I loved the helpful and accommodating attitude of the staff. They even went the extra mile to assist me with transport to and from the airport. And I SO appreciated the room they selected for me; it was wonderfully warm, tastefully decorated, and the bed comfy! I was blessed indeed:) Would most defiantly stay again, particularly when travelling out from Gatwick Airport, as the location is ideal.:) Thank you, guys, for a really comfortable stay!!!
Review 7:I stayed in a single room, perhaps not the best room of the hotel, it was very small. But very good value for money. All worked well, and it was clean. Also the bathroom, although very small, was neatly organized. The only thing perhaps to improve was the mattress and the bed sheets which seemed a bit old, although everything was clean. Windows do not insulate from outside noise, but I reckon this is common with a lot of British houses (at least the ones I have been in).
Review 8:The Hosts are just GREAT. So nice, they make you feel at home immediately. Very helpful, too! Good location, very close to the airport. The house is very nice, the breakfast good.
Review 9:Very beautifull house, very tastefully decorated and the family/workers are very down to earth and well humored. Great breakfast...I was very well received and helped.
Review 10:We've been staying in a few hotels recently but this guesthouse was our favourite experience so far! We loved the warm, personable hospitality, comfortable set up and cute Christmas decorations! And we slept like we were at home!
Review 11:Very helpful on arrival, I'd arrived a little later than I had hoped, so was concerned about getting something to eat. Tony advised local places to eat and get a good beer, and only a few minutes walk for town centre dining. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 12:Quality fixtures and fittings in bathroom and good toiletries and quality towels and sheets.Room to park and friendly welcome despite a late arrival.Comfortable bed, quiet location good pub to eat at nearby
Review 13:The only not so good comment was the electric kettle had a very bad smell to it. The plastic had gone off on the lid. I did report it and they were apologetic but grateful for bringing it to their attention
Review 14:The cleanliness of the rooms. And the attentiveness of the staff. Plus the helpfulness of the staff. We were apologised to on account of the very noisey guests that left early in the morning.
Review 15:Tony was so helpful and went over and above the call of duty to make sure we got to our train on time. Our one night stay was a lovely start to our stay in England. Excellent value for money and the recommendation of The Olde Six Bells Inn by Tony was appreciated
Review 16:In my opinion the place could of been slightly warmer.
Review 17:All the team seemed very friendly and helpful and the whole house was immaculate, so if you want somewhere within the Gatwick area to stay then you really can't go wrong here, it's clean comfortable and quiet so perfect for a night or two. Thank you ?
Review 18:The hotel is managed by a very friendly and welcoming couple. It's a small hotel but clean and comfortable. Rooms are spacious, with bathroom and all needed stuff. It was a pleasure also to get a free transfer to the airport at needed time. Very happy to stay there.
Review 19:the size of the TV.....needs to be bigger and perhaps mounted on the wall as it was too difficult to see. (and one minor thing I did ask for porridge oats (raw not cooked) but they didn't have any or natural yoghurt. I am sure I am not the only one that doesn't like sugar in my cereals or yoghurt)
Review 20:The helpful ness of the owners. and my husband enjoyed the breakfast.
Review 21:Excellent location and very friendly owners. They booked us a taxi to the airport which was on time and very reasonably priced. Will definitely stay again.
Review 22:As a solo person guest, the welcome was friendly and supportive and any queries are responded to immediately. Inclusive continental breakfast has a good choice of items with fresh coffee
Review 23:location's a bit off; but the owner provides complementary pick-up and drop from/to Gatwick Airport. This however was not mentioned on booking.com and I had to take lots of pain to reach there.
Review 24:cleanliness, breakfast, relaxing, room & bathroom and value for money
Review 25:Lovely feel to this quiet family guest home. Plenty of space, right around the corner from town. Excellent directions for the cab service they offer from the airport. Thank you.
Review 26:Our flight arrived late at night and we were emailed information about arrangements - all very straight forward and helpful. Rooms were very comfortable, clean and quiet. Staff were very helpful and lift to airport really appreciated. Would recommend and use again.
Review 27:the room was lovely with everything provided, the house delightful, the hosts charming and very helpful. Great location within 5 minutes of Gatwick and Horley with all amenties.
Review 28:WiFi wasn't working perfectly in the room, but I think it was just because too many people were connected at the same time
Review 29:The room was cozy, really clean and nicely decorated The owners are kind, friendly and very helpful in giving you tips on where to have lunch/dinner Comfortable bed Body cream available in the bathroom Guides to the town Really nice small town Bus service to/from the airport Perfect location
Review 30:Nothing
Review 31:Great B&B with very friendly owner and personal who picked me up from airport Gatwick! The Hotel was very pleasant, quiet and they had a good (cooked) breakfast! Also very easy to travel to London. It's 5 minutes walking to Horley train station. Overall it was very good!
Review 32:Clean, quiet, residential area but in easy walking distance to town and restaurants. Free parking. Good continental breakfast included. Very welcoming and informative hosts, multiple-national guests. Minutes to Gatwick.
Review 33:very sensitive smoke alarm (my kettle set it off), so full marks for safety but not for being able to make a cup of tea without being nervous about it!. More milk in the room would have been nicer too
Review 34:Friendly welcome, clean and well maintained. Well priced.
Review 35:This house can accommodate quite a few guests and is therefore a little impersonal. It is more a small hotel than a B&B
Review 36:Helpful assistant, quite close to Gatwick airport, good breakfast. Parking facilities at reasonable charge
Review 37:My only complaint (very slight) was that the mattress was quite firm, and a bit uncomfortable for me. Others might not find this unpleasant, and it wasn't a big deal. But a softer bed would have made this a perfect guest house!
Review 38:I loved the cheerful, well-appointed room, and modern bath. Everything was clean as a whistle, and the breakfast was especially good. The hosts were very cordial and kind.
Review 39:the room was small , bed was hard as a rock , no meals onsite
Review 40:close to Gatwick airport , room & bathroom were very clean , lift very handy for us with 3 bags
Review 41:Breakfast: sausages or cheese is not on a plate but you have to remove it by yourself from the packaging from a tiny frozen fridge. some do it with the fingers... No space to keep your clothes Only 4 tv-channels
Review 42:Nice small town. airport transfer service.
Review 43:The staff are friendly and responsive to emails. Prior to my arrival they provided transportation alternatives since I was coming from London City Airport. Upon arrival I was pleasantly greeted and taken to a room that was spacious and comfortable. I would definitely stay again.
Review 44:The style of the room was a bit like staying at Grandmas house, although the decor wasn't to my taste, everything was clean and tidy which was the main thing.
Review 45:Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Nice and clean. Can park on the drive.
Review 46:Pick up service offered by Mr. Breen from Airport to Guesthouse is excellent. Besides, I appreciate that they offered me the breakfast even outside the usual hours. Thanks!
Review 47:Perfect location..10 mins walk to Horley station which is only about 5 mins to gatwick. No rush to catch an early morning flight. The room was so comfy with a very nice bathroom. Breakfast was brilliant as well.
Review 48:Clean and tidy. A nice touch is the provision of face cloths in the bathroom, so you won't be travelling with a wet one in your luggage. Breakfasts tasty, and left out overnight if you have an early start.
Review 49:Room had no sheer curtains and I felt the neighbors below could see right into my room. I had to draw the heavy curtain every time I changed clothes. No fan or a/c resulted in a rather warm night.
Review 50:Location, full breakfast was very good. Room was very clean and well cared for.
Review 51:The house setting, the quietness in spite of visible traffic! Lovely staff, and so helpful. Enjoyed the decor too, and details like having a flannel in the bathroom, a rarety these days. Plus their website with suggestions is brilliant, and I loved a snack supper at the old pub, in my way outwards. So it was great to come back after my holiday.
Review 52:Would of been nice to have mushrooms with cooked breakfast, but other than this breakfast was 10 stars.
Review 53:Lovely B&B , cosy and clean, stayed one night with our 3 children. Bit difficult to connect to wi-fi from our phones, but other than that was a lovely stay. Lovely wether-spoons a couple of minutes walk. Lovely hosts and yummy breakfast. Thank you
Review 54:Nothing not to like
Review 55:Free transportation to and from the airport included. I missed the last pick up but they still came to collect me. Suggested that I gave myself more time for the return journey. Glad I took their advice as check-in queue was endless.
Review 56:Nothing.
Review 57:The owners were away and friends were looking after the guest house for them. The service and attention to detail was great and the cooked breakfast was delicious!
Review 58:Slightly perfunctory treatment at times, this included the service at breakfast.
Review 59:1.Ease of access to Gatwick airport. 2. Prompt and efficient journey to and from airport. 3, Ease of booking
Review 60:Not at all!!
Review 61:Alex and Rod who run the place are very professional and courteous, went out of their way to help my stay better. Rod was kind enough to search and print out train schedules once he knew my plans. that was beyond my expectation. well done!!
Review 62:Hosts were wonderful. They were personable and very helpful. The walk to the train to London was short and straightforward, and the complimentary airport pickup made arrival into Gatwick stress free.
Review 63:Nothing to report. It was all great.
Review 64:Pretty much everything, a pleasant change after the overpriced "hotel" I had stayed in the previous night.
Review 65:I am elderly and disabled and felt that the owner was abusive to me in speech and demeanor.
Review 66:Everything but the male owner. He was very good in most ways but was judgemental and moody. He did not treat all customers with the same graciousness. His perceptions of situations were inaccurate which caused him to discriminate against one elderly and disabled man.
Review 67:The proprietor could not have been more helpful and friendly. A warm welcome, and help with my bags. Nice room with ensuite shower, tea & coffee/etc. Would definitely stay here again. Breakfast was great too.
Review 68:I forgot to confirm the time of arrival and the proprietor due to my error had to woken up early hours. I did not see a confirmatory email about this and apologised, but did feel that he had to have the last word as we left. When in business surely you make sure your booking is arriving rather than assuming "well we will take the money anyway" I felt the proprietor was probably ex military!!
Review 69:Most of it
Review 70:The pick up service reliable. The owners friendly and helpful - I use this guesthouse every time I'm Travelling through Gatwick . Everything is just perfect
Review 71:Very convenient for airport. Very clean . Good places to eat within walking distance . Children were delighted to have wifi access . We stayed in a family room and had separate beds for the children rather than a sofa bed .
Review 72:Breda and Tony were outstanding hosts who went out of their way to make us comfortable as well as give us information so we could enjoy downtown Horley and London. We look forward to visiting again.
Review 73:Nothing I didn't like.
Review 74:Very friendly and helpful host. Was collected from Gatwick airport within 10 minutes. 3 minute walk away from Horley town centre. Lovely room and facilities.
Review 75:Not a bad experience but my room faced the roadway which I did not mind as I'm used to traffic noise & it was quiet for bedtime.
Review 76:Location was an easy walk into town, to the shops and to the train station. Also a nice walk back from Ye Olde Six Bells.
Review 77:I love this guest house - everything is perfect and stay here whenever i am flying out from Gatwick. I can leave my car there knowing it is safe and they even pick me up from the airport as long as its before 930pm.
Review 78:Minor gripes - could have done with more milk in the room [realized later that I could have gone down to the dining room and got some more myself!] And don't remember getting information about WiFi - but I could have asked.
Review 79:I was there just for one evening. Tony was very helpful about picking me up from the airport, arranging the taxi for the morning, where to eat out and explained very clearly the procedures for entering and exiting the house, how the use the invaluable luggage lift! and how to access self-service breakfast [which sadly I could not enjoy as I was leaving before 5am and got up a bit too late!] I needed a second pillow and found one nicely packed up over the wardrobe. En-suite shower room lovely and very well equipped with toiletries and towels. These owners really care!
Review 80:We liked everthing, from the staff, location and the pickup and drop off to and from the airport Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone
Review 81:I was unwell when I arrived. The owner met me at the airport and took me to the guest house. He was very kind. the house was spotless and comfortable.
Review 82:We stayed as a quick overnight to catch a plane the next day. Loved the coffee/tea service in room and the fact that we could get breakfast before our early departure. The owners even arranged a taxi for our early morning departure for us. Thanks so much!
Review 83:Excellent staff, I was staying overnight prior to catching a flight, on arrival at Gatwick I found the contact phone and rang the given number - sorted, they collected me a short time later and they dropped me off the next morning. Buffett breakfast was very good & adequate for me but if you want cooked, for an little extra you can order cooked. Excellent service.
Review 84:The free shuttle bus is provided with limited access, often available after 9am. Prior taxi should be arranged. Breakfast option is limited. We were only told that full English breakfast is offered at extra costs and it was too late to arrange. So only basic bread, juice and cereal were available.
Review 85:The staff are very helpful. We called in to inform that we would arrive late - the staff waited till 10pm to allow us check in. We booked a family room and a baby cot was provided at no extra cost. Toilet is a bit small, but clean. Location is very convenient, 5-10mins drive to airport.
Review 86:A very pleasant stay. Constructive suggestions would be a few more milk sachets in the room to avoid having to ask for fresh milk. The wifi password printed somewhere in the room to again to avoid having to ask especially, I had brought my iPad and it was late at night when I wanted to look something up. One of the overbred light bulbs had gone, not a problem for me, on my own, but a couple may have found it irritating. Generally the decor could a refresh, but for the price it was excellent value and breakfast was great, loads of choice, but I would suggest two eggs with the two rashers of bacon as not everyone likes baked beans. I hope this is helpful.
Review 87:A very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Review 88:Beautiful location. Just what I had hoped for in a nice little village, a short drive from LGW airport. Tony Breen, the inn keeper was a perfect host.
Review 89:My non-English speaking mother got stucked at Gatwick. We got immediate help from the inn, she got a free transfer, organised dinner, and since they had room for only one night they also organised her relocation for another place for the next night. We are absolutely grateful and satisfied with all the services, thank you very much.
Review 90:Very homelike hotel, located in nice small village, good Italian restaurant nearby, friendly staff and useful advice, good breakfast if you order full English. Rooms are nice and clean.
Review 91:Bed was a bit short for me. I'm only 5 feet 8 inches - for a taller person I think the bed length would be a real problem.
Review 92:Location close to Gatwick airport, clean and pleasantly furnished, very good value for money.
Review 93:Very clean and had all facilities. It was no problem that we arrived after check in ( we did contact them to let them know). We got given an access code so we could settle in ourselves. Close to train station so easy to get into London. The owners have covered everything and know what the traveller/tourist needs for a very pleasant stay.
Review 94:We didn't find the bed all that comfortable, our sleep was not aided by the fact our son was coughing most of the night though, which wasn't the hotels fault!
Review 95:Polite, friendly staff, who recommended a lovely Italian restaurant just down the road for an evening meal.
Review 96:I flew into gatwick late and didn't want to deal with getting into London late that night this place was perfect! Tony was wonderful and set me up for breakfast and a ride back to the airport the next morning. I would stay here again if I'm ever in the area.
Review 97:Everything. How polite and friendly their were. Their cute breakfast area and comfortable rooms. Their toilets too were very spacious and clean. Enjoyed the whole experience with them. Thank you.
Review 98:breakfast is poor if you don't opt for the cooked breakfast for extra cost.
Review 99:Getting to the airport the next morning stress free! Clean room. Comfortable stay. Good wifi. Friendly staff.
Review 100:Our room at the front was very noisy from traffic and people leaving early for the airport. The bed was uncomfortable as had a plastic under sheet on the mattress
Review 101:We got a nice friendly welcome and nothing too much trouble
Review 102:I had to leave too early to have a lovely Full English Breakfast!
Review 103:I received a really warm welcome which was followed by a spotlessly clean room...all for a very reasonable price. What more can you ask for!
Review 104:Super warm and welcoming B&B. Close to cute town and incredibly clean and comfy. Staff was amazing as well as the breakfast. Staff went out of his way to ensure that we made our flight out that we accidentally showed up to the wrong airport for. He was fantastic! Highly recommend this for all walks of life.
Review 105:toilet cistern dripped all night solo traveler but put in a cramped 5 person room , breakfast room cramped very much like a canteen self service , small tables very close together
Review 106:leaving
Review 107:Everything was perfect.
Review 108:The condition of the entire guest house was perfect and amazingly clean from top to bottom. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. Great places to eat close by.
Review 109:nothing I can think of.
Review 110:being collected. when you are tired and just want to be there it makes a difference. fab shower. lovely touches like a facecloth.
Review 111:Busy intersection in front of guesthouse
Review 112:Breda and Tony are such pleasant and accommodating hosts. Spacious, lovely decor, beautiful gardens, ideally situated close to Gatwick but extremely quiet.
Review 113:Nothing to dislike.
Review 114:I got just that: but also five star service. the proprietor's first words when I arrived were that he'd ordered my taxi for the next morning. I thought I'd be leaving too early for breakfast, but he showed me the breakfast room with everything ready: better (cold) selection than at the Bath Holiday Inn the week before, which cost three times as much. Could I use a computer to check in online? Yes, and I should have the ticket printed and sent to teh guest house's printe: the proprietor delivered it to me before I had logged off. Oh - and the taxi arrived five minutes early.
