Reviews for The Lawn Guest House
Review 1:The staff were very accommodating with our later than expected arrival time. The value for money was excellent and the convenience for the airport was perfect!
Review 2:Bed could be softer but overall not complaining :-)
Review 3:Lovely staff, lovely room, clean and tidy, everything we need provided for and breakfast included - excellent value for money. I can recommend!
Review 4:Extras for parking and transfers should just be in the price. Would have been nice to have assistance with luggage up two flights of stairs
Review 5:Clean, room decor nice
Review 6:The breakfast started 30 minutes late so we had to rush to the airport to catch our plane.
Review 7:The room was clean and big for our group of five. We arrived at 11 pm and still were able to check in wich was nice.
Review 8:Great location very close to Gatwick airport and walking into Horley and some nice restaurants and bars. The house itself is lovely. Could do with a little updating but that doesn't impact on the stay. Room and communal areas are clean. We left too early for breakfast .... although the owner said he would put it out for us if we wanted it. Owner was very nice and friendly. Would definitely stay again.
Review 9:The only improvement we would suggest would be the 'early doors' breakfast. There was only one type of bread and bananas to choose from. Perhaps a continental style of cold meats cheeses and boiled eggs in the fridge would be nice. But it did the job just fine regardless.
Review 10:We had a recently renovated room which was stunning and was just like staying in a hotel. The room was spotless and over exceeded our expectations. The staff were so friendly and showed us everything we needed and were very accommodating for our late arrival. The house had a homely feel and was well located to loads of local amenities. A true gem and we will 100% return.
Review 11:It's decent enough, don't expect much though.
Review 12:Good choice for an overnight after a late flight to Gatwick. Renovated bathroom, comfortable bed.
Review 13:Very friendly owner and a great location. Very close to Gatwick airport and very short walk into Horley and to some nice restaurants. Room was fine for the price. We left too early to have breakfast so not sure what this was like. They also had parking at a very reasonable price
Review 14:Car park was full as I arrived late. However, Just around the corner is wide but quiet road with a parking zone big enough for 3 cars. Its restricted Mon-Fri 8am-6pm to 1 hour only. worked fine for my 9am departure. Be aware no meat for breakfast but Continental was fine.
Review 15:Owner was happy for my late arrival and gave me a key code to access the property. Room key was waiting inside.
Review 16:We booked the more expensive "Garden Room" and although we were happy with the room we weren't actually sure if the room was a "Garden Room". Breakfast is only served until 8:45 which is very poor and the breakfast that is served is hardly worth getting up for! Check out time is also way too early and at 5 minutes past 10am we already had people knocking on our door. There was an extra £3.50 charge for parking which was not made clear when booking. This should be included in the rate! All in all disappointing, not a very relaxing stay and we won't book this guest house again.
Review 17:The shower booth was a bit small, giving us hard time taking a shower.
Review 18:You cannot expect any better host. The room was fairly clean and warm enough to have a sound sleep. Breakfast was also lovely.
Review 19:nothing negative to report.
Review 20:the initial phone response was friendly and welcoming, and this set the tone for my stay. The landlord showed interest in my welfare which was most appreciated.
Review 21:We had a room on the top floor which wasn't great for my Nan.
Review 22:The guest house was in a fab location. The gentleman who ran the guest house was very welcoming and accommodating. For breakfast we had the best poached eggs ever!!
Review 23:We had to pay for car parking when there wasn't any, we had to park on q grass verge. Also there was stains on our bedroom carpet. And the breakfast was disappointing, just eggs, kippers or cereal and fruit. I asked for poached eggs on toast.I received one egg on a slice of toast.
Review 24:Staff were all polite and smiley!
Review 25:The atention recieved by personel in charged. We arrived late in the afternoon, and they received us , not unpolitely, buy rushing and not giving us time and atention.
Review 26:Good location near airport
Review 27:There was nothing to dislike!
Review 28:Our room looked brand new. It was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, quiet and comfortable. Plenty of tea/coffee was provided. The ensuite was clean, well lit and well stocked with plenty of hot water, fresh towels and useful toiletries. There was a good variety of choices available for breakfast all served in pretty surrounding by a helpful and friendly owner.
Review 29:The bathroom was not as clean as I would expect. It was seen that somebody accommodated the bathroom before us.
Review 30:Friendly, kind and polite staff, good location for going to seaside as well as to London. Very comfortable room.
Review 31:I liked everything. Didn't need it so much but I will recommend to check the TV signal as didn't work so well. This is just a recommendation, nothing that really affected me.
Review 32:Service from the owners. The facilities. The feel of being on a family house. The Organization of the place. All clear. Highly recommend. Will go there next time around for sure.
Review 33:A little bit if a mix up about who was picking us up on our return but it wasn't really an issue - we thought we had made it clear that we would get a taxi back (which was easy) but Lawns thought they were picking us up. Suggest you are absolutely clear,
Review 34:The rooms were lovely - clean, welcoming and comfortable. Brilliant location for Gatwick - 5 mins away and good taxi service by Lawns. Good restaurants nearby if staying night before a flight. Check in was very efficient and taxi for flight early in morning was also as efficient. Our cars were ready and parked for easy drive away on our return. We will definitely use again.
Review 35:Found it quite noisy in the evening when we could hear the owners family till late when we were trying to sleep the night before a very long trip.
Review 36:The owner was so helpful and friendly, made us feel relaxed. The location was fab, took a walk to the shops which was 5 minutes away. Room was big enough for us and had the amenities we needed.
Review 37:Very poor Breakfast. while booking is aiport transfer included, last time says its only 9am to 10am . what they offered in Online, its all not available on the spot.
Review 38:It was very near to the LGW Airport. Also near to the Railwaystation. near so many good Restaurants.
Review 39:size of the ensuite = only just managed to get through the doors, knocked elbow on shower cubicle.
Review 40:ability to leave car for the week we were away'size of teh
Review 41:The owner was a fantastic man does everything with a big smile we were travelling with a young child the room was great. It is near the airport the owner can peak up when needen from the airport. Thank you so much
Review 42:Absolutely excellent, location was very close to Gatwick, room was stunningly decorated and immaculately clean and the owners were very very friendly and informative. The guest handbook reflected the difference between a large corporation book and a small family business, I actually read it cover to cover
Review 43:No elevator. Our room was an attic room up two flights of stairs. Lack of parking. We arrived late and had to find street parking.
Review 44:Comfortable room. Updated and clean. Reasonable price.
Review 45:Didn't like the fact the bed had no headboard pillows kept slipping down the back of the bed and the bathroom had mouldy grout which should be addressed.
Review 46:Staff were attentive...location was good for the airport...breakfast lovely, good value!
Review 47:A slightly limited range of choice for breakfast, although good quality.
Review 48:Exceptionally clean; friendly welcome; excellent location close to a variety of restaurants and pubs; 10-minute drive from Gatwick Airport.
Review 49:- water in shower not running off - dead grasshopper in shower - very unfriendly staff - staff not available just before 10pm although it said check-in until 10pm.
Review 50:- Convenient to go (by train) to Gatwick - Nice interior of the room - Comfy bed
Review 51:Only thing to come to mind is it has a small on site car park but there is a large pay and display car park near by
Review 52:Warm welcome, very clean and comfortable. Room was of good standard when sleeping a family of 4. Location was ideal as it was a short ride to the airport
Review 53:The room was rather hot so we didn't sleep that well. We left our car with the guesthouse and there was a long wait of 45 minutes waiting for them to collect us from the airport terminal
Review 54:Nice spacious family room and bathroom with hot shower. Convenient location for airport. Friendly welcome.
Review 55:Nothing to dislike.
Review 56:The hosts were lovely and made us very welcome. Nothing was too much trouble. Perfect for the airport. Close to the local restaurants and shops.
Review 57:Very shabby front entrance room which was also very dusty. Needs a good clean & spruce up. Breakfast limited. Juice glasses old chipped and scratched. Car park very busy, asked to move car in the evening to allow others to park.
Review 58:Friendly staff, comfy clean room. Nicely decorated.
Review 59:Steps down to the bathroom - sign should read Mind the Steps not step
Review 60:Quality of bedroom and showers. Attention to detail in information book - i.e. WiFi password for front / back of house / local restaurants listed/ Friendly family members at breakfast. Location/ non Smoking /
Review 61:Nothing bad to say here.
Review 62:Staff were very friendly. Rooms were clean & finished to an excellent standard. Breakfast was lovely. What more could you ask? Made our stay a lot more enjoyable. Thank you.
Review 63:Family run Pleasant surroundings Late arrivals accepted Shuttle service to airport Parking Breakfast included Free wifi Clean Comfy bed Large bathroom
Review 64:No elevator, carrying our heavy suitcases is no fun. Little bit old. At the wash basin separate faucets for warm and cold water.
Review 65:Location near the airport and all kind of restaurants nearby. Clean and efficient.
Review 66:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 67:The owners of The Lawn Guest House were extremely welcoming, and they couldn't be more accommodating during our stay. You know they genuinely take pride in giving their guests tip-top services when they personally cook your breakfast every single morning. Staying at The Lawn Guest House made our first time to England that much more incredible! We would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking to feel at home, while indulge in the luxury's of a hotel.
Review 68:See above
Review 69:Never had to pay for parking for an overnight stay before! Ticked 'Parking' under extras but did not think this was going to be chargeable.Well, you live and learn. Everything else was good so not too miffed.
Review 70:I do realise that the car parking charge of £3.50 was on the supplied details but had not noticed it. I wonder how many clients walk to their B and B? It is the first time i have experienced such a charge.
Review 71:Comfotable, clean, friendly and efficient.
Review 72:As we are used to a King bed and my wife is pregnant the double was a little small but a King may not fit in the room. Wasn't aware of parking charge at time of booking - could be clearer.
Review 73:The room was very well decorated and presented. Greeted and everything explained very well by staff.
Review 74:Friendliness, cleanliness. comfort, breakfast, close to Gatwick Airport, short walk to various restaurants in area, car parking and courtesy lift to/from airport. THANK YOU!
Review 75:bathroom and shower small. Paying to park your vehicle on premises. More variety in hot breakfast would be good.
Review 76:Very friendly owners, lovely clean modern room.
Review 77:Roof construction works on the property. (Personel of the construction company was very cooperative and friendly). Breakfast was poor. 1 slice of toast. We had to ask for more every morning. Better ask GBP3 more and put something on the table.
Review 78:Friendly staff, clean rooms & bathroom. Nice rooms.
Review 79:Ordered "poached eggs on toast" got one small eff and One piece of toast in the included breakfast!
Review 80:Good location and friendly helpful staff. Good value for money.
Review 81:Comfort and closeness to Horley station. A homely atmosphere with the owners going above and beyond to be most helpful. His taxi service to Heathrow airport was most helpful as well so didn't have to worry about time catching buses.
Review 82:No problems - will stay here again
Review 83:Best night's sleep for a long time. Stayed here before a while ago - pleased with the improvements that have been made.
Review 84:When we arrived a woman told us we have to pay extra for parking, paying with credit card and a commision. Later the manager told us we haven´t to pay extra because we booked many time ago. The second day our room wasn´t made. ?????
Review 85:Very near from Gatwick airport. Good breakfast. Warm and confortable. Parking.
Review 86:There was nothing i did not like overall it was fab The parking was easy and the rooms were very modern and clean
Review 87:The couple were really nice. The location was really food with a weatherspoons just around the corner. Value for money was fab will be returning again.
Review 88:I booked a free transfer from the airport but this was not recorded in their diary so we had to make our own arrangements instead (£9)
Review 89:Good service comfortable room & good breakfast. Relaxed and homely atmosphere
Review 90:No gluten free option at breakfast, was told if I wanted something gluten free then I had to supply my own. Not good when the breakfast was continental and I'd specified on my booking two months before that a member of the party was celiac.
Review 91:Very clean and excellent room
Review 92:Excellent value, clean and comfortable hotel. Central Horley is only a 5 minute walk for bars an restaurants. Friendly, family run business. Made to feel welcome on arrival. I'd happily stay again. You won't beat this for value!
Review 93:Was promised cash payment but instead they charged my credit card and left the keys on the table in the lobby because we checked in at 11pm and the owner, obviously, was already sleeping. Not a big deal, but would prefer to know in advance.
Review 94:Were silently upgraded from a single double-bed room to the one with four beds (3 singles and one queen), which was very useful. Plus the shower, which can be a problem in some hotels, was excellent.
Review 95:Room was very crowded and promoted as for 4 people. 4 adults in our party, room really only suitable for 2 adults 2 children.
Review 96:Staff very helpful, gorgeous place and so convenient to Gatwick (reason for our stay). Spotlessly clean and great bathroom.
Review 97:People talking quite loudly in next room until well after 2am were irritating. Not the guest house's fault however!
Review 98:Flexibility to my needs. Good price. Basic but friendly and had everything required. And I could park.
Review 99:Everything had been thought of in the room - from cotton wool to a hotwater bottle, alarm clock to plenty of free tea and coffee. Very welcoming family and lovely guest house.
Review 100:Shower door broken, it had been taped up, doors wouldn't close. Mold on bread and stale croissants. If you order their vehicle to take you back to the airport before they take you as part of the package it costs double that of a standard taxi.
Review 101:Love the location, received a warm welcome on arrival. Clearly the owners are working hard to improve the place in general.
Review 102:The staff here are very friendly and the location was fantastic with plenty of car spaces. Walk to the end of the road and there is pub which does food which was very reasonably priced. The bedroom was really spacious and very clean. The other point was the bed was really comfortable so we had a good nights rest before our flight the next morning. Would definitely use this B&B again.
Review 103:Mold on the bread at breakfast, stale buns and croissants. Broken shower door, which had previously been taped up. On return journey we got in to find a note advising us of our rooms and telling us that breakfast was served between 7 and 8.30. The breakfast room was not unlocked until 7.20 despite us phoning at 7.10. By this time we didn't have time left for food as we had to get a taxi back to the airport.
Review 104:We love the location and have stayed at The Lawn many times before. They are improving the rooms gradually.
Review 105:No tea making facilities in dining room on morning of departure, also no toaster.
Review 106:Warmth and friendliness of owners.cleanliness and car parking facility.
Review 107:You can listen the other guests talking and watching TV from their rooms. Terrible acoustic. The place has a bad smell, an issue that they could solve easily. I just can believe that they don't really care about cleaning.
Review 108:They prepared for us an earlier continental breakfast than the usual (7:30). Friendly and helpful staff. Parking space.
Review 109:Limited breakfast time, last serving 8.30am. Leave by 10am and knock on door at 3 minutes past to see if we were leaving. Cleanliness, bedding etc was good but the doors, walls, floors needed a clean. First sight of anyone who worked there was to ask when we were leaving.
Review 110:Closeness to Gatwick Good selection of restaurants nearby
Review 111:Preis - Lage - Ruhe - Free Parkplatz- gute Verbindung nach London- guter Service- Horley hat viele Restaurants. Wir kommen wieder. Price-Area-quietness-free parking-good connection to London- Victorian style-comfortable beds- clean place-friendly service. We will be back !
Review 112:Due to a misunderstanding on their part we had to pay for a shuttle instead of getting a free pickup from the airport.
Review 113:The hostess went above and beyond when helping us with local knowledge and arranging transport. Very friendly.
Review 114:No desk of any kind in the room – an annoying detail for a business traveller.
Review 115:Very friendly staff, pleasant breakfast, rooms renovated to a good standard nice old house with real character.
Review 116:The owner was very welcoming, friendly and obliging. Our room was quiet and comfortable with with a large ensuite well presented bathroom. The history of the house was included in the information folder, very interesting. Good breakfast selection served in attractive dining room. There is also a tranquil garden available to sit in. Will definitely recommend and stay again ourselves.
Review 117:Old building with only average accommodation. Breakfast cold buffet was average to fair, but the cooked was nicely done.
Review 118:Arrived late. Had thought I had booked accommodation elsewhere and hadn't so lucky to find something close to Gatwick. Very friendly host, who couldn't do enough to help. His father ran me to Gatwick airport in the morning.
Review 119:From the bedroom to on suite small flight of stairs dangerous especially if you forgot they were there. Expensive for a guest house £200 basic breakfast.
Review 120:Clean room.
Review 121:I have to pay extra if I need a lift for an early flight, and there was no breakfast before 7:00 a.m.
Review 122:I can leave my car at the Lawn when I am travelling. They take me to the airport and collect me on my return. I was collected very quickly this afternoon.
Review 123:The staff were professional, friendly and could not do enough for you. It's situated within walking distance of a pleasant shopping location yet is only 5 minutes drive from Gatwick airport.
Review 124:The room creaked. Payment was taken direct from our cards, which is a bit unusual. There were a great many 'optional extras' that we were a bit surprised about, including parking (£5), cooked breakfast (£5), a shower cap, shampoo, etc. There was no shower gel.
Review 125:The continental breakfast was generous, and the staff were polite. We arrived late after a celebration, and it was ok.
Review 126:Paying extra for parking, paying extra for full english breakfast, the fact that breakfast was served so early on a sunday and we had to decide what time in advance, the fact that there was no shampoo or shower gel in the bathroom.
Review 127:Continental breakfast was good - lots of toast and tea. The owner was on hand and very friendly and helpful
Review 128:Charges £5 to park on property but at weekends its free to park round corner on road so avoid the charge. it's not clear when booking and may mean other nearby properties are cheaper. Advertises that continental breakfast is included in price. It's far from what one would expect such to be - it's only cereal, fruit pieces and yogurt. No sign of cold meats, cheese or bread rolls - other guests from Europe looked surprised at the "spread", no wonder! On a Sunday one would expect breakfast to go on later than 08:30 so do not expect to lie in.
Review 129:If flying from Gatwick it's about 5 mins to airport. All clean and tidy with comfortable bed, good shower. Cooked breakfast good but charged at additional £5 per person. Easy to find, not hidden down some obscure road. Not far from railway station. Good selection of restaurants nearby - Italian was used and very good.
Review 130:Very dirty. The bedspread was dirty. Poorly ventilated, the smell was strong. Lack of maintenance, specially in the bathroom.
Review 131:The situation in the cycle route Paris-London.
Review 132:Nothing and will certainly be back!
Review 133:They look after your car better than airport meet and greet companies. Very Friendly host, lovely children, clean cosy and very comfortable.
Review 134:Very small ensuite facilities - would have preferred a little more space. Parking very cramped and once parked some vehicles could not drive out and back in again without disturbing other cars - which would not be possible late in the evening for example.
Review 135:No fuss access at any hour with own key. Quiet and peaceful.
