Reviews for Villa Castello

Review 1:Distance from old town, no easy access to main bins. Should be toilet roll and spare towels in easy access.

Review 2:Friendly staff, quiet pool and restaurant delicious and value for money

Review 3:Room cleaning costs extra (except for clean towels and bedsheets), which we found unusual but not disastrous. Owner's demeanour made us feel a little uncomfortable but we didn't take it personally.

Review 4:All staff at the Villa were very friendly and helpful (especially Ivana), only a 10 minute taxi ride from the Old Town and a beautiful setting.

Review 5:Staff very helpful and friendly with good English (compared to the rest of the places I have stayed in Croatia which have been really quite poor on this front). This place really does stand out as being different from the rest. Beautiful meals and breakfasts and great value for money. Great service overall. Looked like brand new accomodation...very clean and modern.

Review 6:- Our kids like more sand beach, which is 12 km away (Bilin Žal Lumbarda). The hotel owner was so kind and took us there by his own car. - Unstable wifi

Review 7:- Very nice view from balcony - Very helpful staff - Good bicycles for rent for free - Well equipped kitchen - 2 bathrooms - Swimming pool only for us - Small shop is very close

Review 8:No cushions for pool loungers. Noisy children. We were there 11 days and room was not cleaned.

Review 9:The beautiful view and sunsets from the balcony. Mostly quiet. Use of bicycles for free. Being collected and delivered back to the port.

Review 10:Wifi was a bit dodgy in rooms, better on balconies, otherwise nothing. You are out of town, but have benefit of more sleepy surrounds. We loved it

Review 11:Fantastic rooms, balcony, 3 bathrooms for our family of 6 with modern kitchen etc-plenty of room. Restaurant and pool area lovely, meals lovely as is waitress ivana. walked down to beach area-so sleepy, feels like just locals having a swim, nice and peaceful. Can walk into town along waterside takes 45min, but all flat, preferred over steps in dubrovnik!! Caught ferry late in day so able to leave bags at the property and picked up later

Review 12:We were without car which meant taxi rides... Taxis £8ish one way into town. We spent approx £25 on taxis alone... I would suggest owners look to offer complementary mini bus a few times a day which would make it a more accessible place to stay.

Review 13:Apartment is nice, new and clean. Pools were the same. The Owner offered free pick up from Korcula and let us use bikes for free which we used to bike into korcula (maybe 30-40mins). There are so many gorgeous sea spots nearby. The beach near the hotel is lovely. (Next to camp site). There is a restaurant on site which was handy to have if you didn't have a car. The girl that worked there (the owners daughter?) was very friendly.

Review 14:WiFi a bit unreliable at times Kitchenette minimal , a challenge to prepare a full meal, but quite good for doing own breakfasts . 80 stairs to negotiate to get to our room. Fitness improved during our stay

Review 15:Very clean & well maintained Quiet surroundings Comfortable bed Very helpful, friendly staff Free transfer ( pick up ) from ferry wharf on arrival.

Review 16:There were steep steps up to the room which could be difficult for the elderly or those with young children.

Review 17:The view was stunning and the location excellent as there were two beaches, a bar and a couple of restaurants within walking distance. The apartment was spotless and staff were friendly.

Review 18:The staff were really friendly. The food in the restaurant was so excellent , was some of the best food we ate on the island and so reasonably priced . Beutiful location stunning views from the balcony ,the apartment was really clean and reasonably priced wich makes it affordable for all , and perfect for the 6 of us A short walk to a beutiful little beach . Really great family run business . Thank you all for your welcoming attatude towards us and excellent service you all provided .

Review 19:Failed to meet basic standards: no towels, shower clogged and overflowed after 2 mins, bathroom not properly cleaned and while they said they have internet it did not actually work.

Review 20:Nice staff but not very efficient.

Review 21:We had a car, but this place may not be so accessible if you don't.

Review 22:Great hotel, just out of the main town. Friendly and helpful staff. Got some great local advice from the hosts. Our room was huge, and with 3 bathrooms it was more than adequate!

Review 23:about 5km from korcula so you either need transport or be prepared for taxis

Review 24:Nice modern apartments in quiet rural location. 2 x swimming pools. Helpful and friendly staff. Nice beach a 200m walk from property.

Review 25:-if you don't like sports, nothing to do -no good beaches around -poor bus connections to Korcula

Review 26:-bikes available for free -peaceful place -easy to go to Korcula by bike -good beds -clean

Review 27:Very clean and well laid out apartment with a lovely view. Staff very helpful. Pool and outside area lovely.

Review 28:Nothing

Review 29:Great place, great restaurant good value peaceful location

Review 30:if you can't cope with stairs it may not be for you

Review 31:the local bay is beautiful & very safe to swim

Review 32:Nothing was unlikable.

Review 33:Ivana, the view, the wonderful food, the weather, everything!

Review 34:Location,facilities,quiet.

Review 35:No Adria view from our apartment, though it was mentioned in the description.

Review 36:Nice staff

Review 37:the stuff very unfriendly very bad place for going to a beach, no room clearning during your stay

Review 38:hte view is very good quiet place, good sleeping

Review 39:Clean, spacious and modern apartment. Very nice and friendly staff. The view from the balcony was nice.

Review 40:Very helpful staff. Nice restaurant. Good location, but need a hire car.

Review 41:The location, the view, the quietness, the restaurant and the very friendly and service minder staff.

Review 42:Only the necessary large number of steps and, an occasional whiff of smoke from the barbecue grill beneath us are worth mentioning.

Review 43:Provided you have transport, the location is excellent, with two delightful bays walking distance from the villa to swim in after time spent in Korčula visiting the museums and churches. The staff , particulately Tania who dealt with me, were fluent English speakers and very helpful. The birdsong from the adjacent bushes and Holme-oak growth nearby was lovely, the sunsets from our balcony each night a delight and it was only the usual facts of Dalmatia that a beautiful view is achieved by a large number of steps that was negative.

Review 44:A car is needed to stay here as public transport not frequent/ obvious but wehad a rental car so this was no problem for us. Being out of the town was perfect for us. We found free places to park in Korcula town.

Review 45:Wonderful room with all the equipment and comfort that we needed. Excellent value, the best of our whole week. Lovely swimming bay a five minute walk away.

Review 46:Would recommend not to book the breakfast ahead of time--it was delicious, but costs more through booking.com (75 kuna) than to simply pay for it on site (60 kuna).

Review 47:Very clean and comfortable room, and the hotel was in a nice quiet setting.

Review 48:It was a bit too far away from town. Had to take a cab as the bus only runs a few times a day. When we did arrive, they had given our seaside view room away and set us up in other accomodations.

Review 49:The gal who checked us in, Ana, was very nice and accomodating. They gave our original room away (we had a late arrival) but made up for it with a complementary breakfast and bottle of wine at dinner. They also held our luggage beyond our check out time so we could site see before our late afternoon departure.

Review 50:It is Close to a nice Swimming bay. Korcula is reachable in a 35 min walk, but best rent a moto-bike. Food served is decent and affordable. Nice scenic view from balcony.

Review 51:in our room the bed was noisy, we mentionned it, they might fix it for next time !

Review 52:Before all, I love the location, quiet place, lovely view from the balcony, a kitchen corner in the room, friendly and dog friendly staff, not far from Korcula city.

Review 53:We had to use the taxi most of the times cause its not very easy and short to walk. Our bed was really bad unfortunately.

Review 54:Nice rooms, friendly staff and the island of korcula is really nice. Also the restaurant and swimming pools are fine

Review 55:More geared towards guests with own transport. Customer service could be vastly improved just by explaining things on arrival, eg how to get the bus, hire car, moped. Or trips available. The food was just ok. Expensive for what it was. House wine horrid. Didn't serve pizzas or food from the grill until after 6. As long as you go knowing what to expect you will have a fine time.

Review 56:Room was clean and looked recently decorated. Nice terrace and quiet pools. Pick up and drop off at korcula town was easy to organise.

Review 57:Position of villa - the description on-line implied it was close to the sites of the main city Korcula but in reality bus services were limited and it cost 70 - 80 Kuna for a taxi each way.

Review 58:Staff / owner went out of their way to arrange ferry tickets for the next stage of our journey and ensure our stay was comfortable. In terms of recommendation it would depend on what the visitor was looking for

Review 59:Just the distance from the town, although everything you need is right there in lovely surroundings. Oh, and only two electric hobs (no microwave/oven) for self catering but this did not effect us personally.

Review 60:Our apartment was immaculate and modern with good air-con and balcony from which you could see the sea. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our booking confirmation advised that we could email the apartments and they would pick us up from the port on our arrival. However, as we were arriving from Hvar where only a late ferry goes daily to Korcula, the owners were unable to do this for us and instead arranged and paid for a taxi to be waiting for us on our arrival - what a service!! Castello is only a few minutes walk from either of two beaches, one attached to a camping site and so a little busier but still very pretty and by no means crowded, the other very quiet, however it is a good 40min-1 hour walk from Korcula harbour/town and so you will need to get a taxi. We only did this on one evening and it cost around 80 kuna (about £9) each way. The good thing is that the staff are more than happy to call you a taxi whenever you require one and the same guy who had picked us up from the port took us into town, he also booked us in for the morning that we were leaving and needed to get to the bus station particularly early and was reliable, waiting outside our apartment in good time :-) Another really good point - there is a small shop right there on your doorstep where you can buy anything that you would need to self cater so it was not a problem to be a little out from the town. There are two pools, both very clean and with sun beds set around them - we found them very relaxing to be around as they were very quiet - we pretty much had them all to ourselves despite there being quiet a few other guests. We also ate at the restaurant attached (also very convenient given that you are quite removed from the town) and can not complain about the food or prices. There were always other people eating in the restaurant and although very quiet and quiet secluded, the apartments and the restaurant were clearly very popular.

Review 61:no towel replacement.no soap or shampoo.no explanation of tv and 3 remotes.no cleaning of rooms until departure.want payment upfront on arrival.wont take credit card for food or wine ( inc breakfast )air con in kitchen not in bedroom. sea view is very minimal.didnt see a smile from any member of staff.terrible value for money.rest of trip stayed at hotel cavtat which was a revelation compared to this place.

Review 62:room size ok house wine good tho expensive

Review 63:The staff was very unfriendly The location was OK, but the facility was not user friendly. Too many steps. Not much suitable for families with childern. No water at the beginning, later it was fixed. We had heavy luggage. We asked for help for the luggage. But nobody helped us. By checking out from the hotel, we noticed that there was another parking area just above the hotel. If they would have informed us at check in, there would be no need to climb the steps with luggage !!! We asked for information about the island and didn’t get any proper reply what to do there. At check out, we noticed that there were informative brochures at the desk both in german and english. They pushed us very unfriendly to check out at 10,00 clock. We asked for 30 minutes more, but rejected. In summary, very poor management from the customer satisfaction point of view.

Review 64:I wouldn't suggest relying on the rooms' cooking facilities to prepare anything more than a salad. Although the fridge was useful, the electric hob was a joke. Old fashioned electric hobs that never got hot enough to boil water. So after two and half hours our dinner-in resulted in half cooked spaghetti and raw onion tomato sauce!

Review 65:The location was beautiful, but you do need access to a car to get around. The room was spacious and clean with a small terrace looking out towards the sea. There were two nice swimming pools and sun loungers. There was also a small supermarket at the bottom of the road and beaches within walking distance.

Review 66:Korcula is a beautiful island and Villa Castello has an excellent location with breathtaking views, the nearest beach is 5 minutes walk and the appartment has everything you need. I definetely would recommend this place ¡¡¡¡

Review 67:Shower drain didn't work. Room not serviced. Owner didn't honouragreement to transfer us back to Korcula on our departure ( because 6amwas too early for him )

Review 68:Restaurant was quite nice.

Review 69:On-site bikes were had not been maintained, so we hired some in town. We were there right at the start of the season, so hopefully the bikes are generally oiled/tyres repaired etc.

Review 70:Fantastic view from the terrace. Pleasant restaurant on-site. It's a gentle, beautiful 40 minute walk to town around two bays. We walked there and back every day and enjoyed it.

Review 71:The only thing that we were surprised at was how far out from the town the Villa actually was. I would say at least 1h15mins to walk and in the heat it is not nice during the day. We ended up hiring a scooter for half a day to get us to and from.

Review 72:We arrived in to Korcula by bus/ferry and the owner was there to meet us and drove us back to the villa. Room was clean, spacious and had beautiful views. We ate dinner in the restaurant on the first night and it was very good. Anna was fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for her! We let the owner know that we didn't have any beach towels and if/where we could buy them and before we knew it; he'd gone and got 2 for us to borrow! Nothing was too much trouble and we very much enjoyed our stay...

Review 73:Too many stairs everywhere to get to the reception, restaurant and pools. No umbrellas at the pool was a big drawback since there was no natural shadow and a very strong sun in the middle of the day.The location is quite bad if you don't have a car/scooter because the bus connection to Korcula isn't very good. The beaches nearby were small and more like a small harbour.

Review 74:Nice rooms with small functional kitchen. Balconies and two fun pools! Bicycles to borrow free of charge, they'd need some service though. Free transport to the hotel from the harbour.

Review 75:Everything was great. The in house restaurant provided good value, delicious meals and breakfast. Staff arranged anything you needed eg. Hire car etc. Staff pick you up from ferry for free!

Review 76:It was a 50 walk from town. Town wasn't that great anyway, not somewhere you would want to be all the day and night so that was fine and the walk was interesting but be prepared. You might want to organize banking and transportation while you are there. Better to make your own food.

Review 77:It was nice to be out of town and we enjoyed walking the roads. Our room was very clean and spacious with little kitchen area and nice terrace. There are 2 tiny pools but only one was filled at the time. Early season. There is a tiny market very close.

Review 78:The villa is not right on the sea but about 300-500meters along a small road. It is a short drive from the city and we needed to take a taxi the get around.

Review 79:We enjoyed our room and the pool and the fact that they have a restaurant right there. We were able to have our breakfast there and we also stayed for diner. They picked us up at the Ferry, spoke good English. It was a very relaxing and quiet area; the sea cove nearby and view is magnificient.

Review 80:A little remote with little option for evening dining without driving, although the in-house restaurant was good. Lots of steps to access the various areas.

Review 81:Light, airy and comfortable appartment. Modern and well equipped. Good quality cooking in the in-house restaurant.

Review 82:microwave grill missing in 2bed rooms (only in 4bed rooms) 4 km from Korcula city steep stairs to upper floors wifi only on the edge of terrace View on the sea is to a small bay, not the whole sea area, because it is located behind the hill. It is not suitable for evening walks. You need car, bike, motorbike. If you want to pay by card, you will be charged 5% more than in cash. Suitable as a base camp for travelling around the island. Overall, it is not a bad location/appartment. I could come once more.

Review 83:decent appartment decent kitchen equipment no ants no mosquitos terrace two pools landlord effort to get along well with guests

Review 84:The apartments are slightly out of the main town of Korcula but was a beautiful spot, with a lovely bay to swim nearby and lovely sunset views. The small pool was also handy, being just outside the apartment door. If you don't have a car it is easy enough to get taxis and there is a supermarket nearby and restaurant owned by the same owners where we had an enjoyable meal. The apartments were clean with good air conditioning (needed in August) and had all facilities needed. We had a lovely stay at villa castello.

Review 85:As it is slightly outside the main town it is helpful to hire a car/scooter to get around the island.

Review 86:Great setting outside Korcula town. Excellent facilities and very helpful staff.

Review 87:Only problem was a taxi required to get into korcula and back, €20 return, can add up if u go regularly but its a small price to pay to stay in such a beautiful location!!! And petar our taxi driver was a gent..it was never too early or late for him!!!

Review 88:Beautiful private location off the beaten track, shop and beach nearby, Castello made their own wine!! Owners very welcoming and great value for money..fantastic clear water for snorkelling..numerous little tiny alcoves if U wanted some privacy...all in all, just go, U will not regret it....we even changed our plans and stayed an extra night! Highly recommend getting the speed boat to mljet...its the business

Review 89:Bus links to town were poor so it was a £15 return fair to town each time you wanted to go there by taxi. The pool although clean and quiet was very deep.

Review 90:The pool was really nice and the location was very quiet. It was a 5 minute walk to a lovely pebbly beach in a small bay that was good for swimming and snorkeling. It was also close to a supermarket.

Review 91:It was about 4 km from Korcula town, although this isn't too far, bus links to the town were poor. There was a very infrequent bus (running every 4 hours or so) with the last buses to and from Korcula being only around 7 in the evening. This meant getting taxis, which compared to other prices in Croatia, were surprisingly expensive. It cost between 70-90 kuna which is around £7-£9 with the current exchange rate each way, and much more after midnight, although we used the same taxi driver each time (the number of which is provided by the owners) who was happy to charge us 70 kuna for each trip. The owners provide bikes free of charge and one evening we walked in. The only downside is very hot even in the evenings so be prepared to get sweaty!

Review 92:It was a friendly, welcoming place. Has two pools that can be used to cool off. It was located in really beautiful surroundings with lovely views, a few mins walk from a really nice, quiet beach and a grocery store. The room was basic but perfectly sufficient. Importantly the aircon worked very well!

Review 93:Although we gad a car, we found the hotel located far outside of Korcula city center. Also many tomes we were told to pay as if we were supposed to run-away. The breakfast was supposed to start at 8:00am, however the lady who prepare the breakfast woke up around 8:15; after our presence.. If you are staying for more than couple of days this hotel would be convenient with a kitchen in the room. If you are staying only for 1 night like us, you can choose another hotel close to the city center..

Review 94:The room was quite spacey and clean. The extra bed they provided was very comfortae. The room has a great view and relaxing environment.

Review 95:Nice room with balcony and kitchen . We ate at the restaurant once and the food was nice. The small shop around the corner was good for buying provisions. Nice quiet location. Took us 35 mins to walk along coast Into korkula.

Review 96:Very good located villa (we didn't stay at the hotel but in a nearby house), next to the sea and only 10' away from Korcula center. Small but very nice swimming-pool. Quiet. Well-furnished, modern house. Free computer service, ping-pong table, nice terrace. The camping on the beach serves an excellent diner (grilled fish) on the sea-shore.

Review 97:If u think only in korcula old town and don t have a car, that is far to walk to the center. in the new building there was no internet, we had to go up to the main building. The beds were very noisy!

Review 98:The staff was Nice, the rooms were new, simple, but had everything we needed. It was very clean. Free parking available. Small supermarket and restaurants near by.

Review 99:Situated in beautiful quiet surroundings.40 Minute walk to Korcula Town.Restaurant on site if you wish to eat . Food was delicious. Owner pickedus up from Korcula on our arrival and deposited us there again when weleft. Apartment we stayed in was brand new, spotlessly clean, had cookingfacilities, balcony to sit out on and air conditioning.Lovely beach atend of the road. Small supermarket at other end of road for suppliesetc. Really nice place to stay. Very quiet but you can get a bus or taxito Korcula within 5 minutes.

Review 100:There were two great swimming pools which our 9 year old loved in the 30 plus degree heat. Great location if you have a car. Nice facilities and view of the valley and sea. Restaurant in site bonus after long drive but also a set market at start of drive if you are up to cooking.

Review 101:Booking.com's description of "one-bedroom apartment" is misleading asthis is not an apartment. It is just regular hotel rooms with akitchenette. Be aware that there are many stairs!

Review 102:Location was good, view from balcony amazing with wonderful sunsets.Friendly, helpful staff and good-size room. Home made wine was verygood! Nice little beach in the small harbor where children playedand enjoyed.

Review 103:You will need a car to get around from Villa Castello. The angledroof line came down over the shower ( which was over the bath) so lowthat our heads brushed against it while showering and there was noshower curtain.

Review 104:Spacious rooms and an extra large balcony with a lovely view down tothe water. New quality appliances in the kitchen. Everything was freshand clean.

Review 105:A bit far from Korcula old town, but few minutes away if you are using your own car...

Review 106:Everything was nice... nice view, friendly and helpful host, peaceful area near sea etc.

Review 107:The steep access to the parking

Review 108:The location, the excellent dinner

Review 109:Spacious apartment, really helpful staff

Review 110:Necessary car...dificult to use the pool..

Review 111:Practically new ..

Review 112:Good quiet location near to Korcula Town. Air con. Pool. Terrace. Breakfast

Review 113:A little far from town.

Review 114:Staff and accommodations excellent. Friendly and helpful. Space was elegant and large clean with AC and wifi.

Review 115:The staff was hilarious and we loved Anna. We wanted her to sit on our faced.

Review 116:Good location for those looking for a quiet place. Nice, quiet beach down the road. Two outdoor swimming pools were a real bonus. Helpfull staff.

Review 117:too many steps and the wifi does not work

Review 118:cool but a bit old

Review 119:location was up a very steep set of steps there was not enough choice of resturants(only 2 and one was catello itself)

Review 120:Having to leave!!

Review 121:A lovely place with a beautiful view. Very helpful staff. Great place to relax for 5 days.

Review 122:Wonderful hosts...most helpful...very relaxing setting...private,quiet space.

Review 123:Hosts were very helpful and helped us enjoy our stay. Would recommend to any traveler.
