Reviews for The Ullswater View Guest House

Review 1:The view from the loughrigg ensuite is beautiful and after a long walk up helvellyn it is perfect to come back to your own whirlpool bath in the room!

Review 2:The location was peaceful - just what we wanted. There is a pub about a mile down the road. There are also lots of lovely places to eat. We enjoyed a meal at Leeming House (even nearer!) The staff at the guest house are lovely and friendly. There are a plethora of books and board games to enjoy at your leisure as well as an honesty bar located downstairs. Julie was very helpful when we checked in and the room was lovely. We stayed in the room with the whirlpool bath - a relaxing treat at the end of a day's walking. The chocolates are a nice touch! We will definitely be returning - it was super!

Review 3:No Wi Fi The fact you are unable to cancel the room or get a refund Toilet bin hadn't been emptied on our arrival Television reception was poor on lots of occasions.

Review 4:The area, the room, the breakfast

Review 5:The dining room was a little lacking in atomsphere needed background music but it kept cutting out

Review 6:Location was great for walking and getting about The staff were helpful and really welcoming on what was a dark and very wet night.

Review 7:Everything from the bedroom to the breakfast was amazing. The staff are polite, friendly and helpful. The views are absolutely gorgeous. Will stay again.

Review 8:The room was comfortable and had a lovely view of Ullswater. Breakfast was excellent and served in a bright, spacious dining room. The staff were welcoming and helpful.

Review 9:excellent location service and the room was incredable. Julie was friendly very helpful and very trusting with the honesty bar top marks. Extremely clean and the view from the spa was magnificent.a good hearty breakfast too.Would definately stay again

Review 10:Arrive at 7 pm and there was nobody at reception to check in. We left the next morning and were charged 15 pounds for my young daughter althogh she did not have any bed nor even a towel available for her. On the other hand the room smelled bad (humidity).

Review 11:Breakfast was very good.

Review 12:What a lovely place to stay. The bedroom was well decorated & had a homely feeling. The bed was massive & extremely comfortable. The views from the window offer beautiful, uninterrupted views across Ullswater. We loved the contemporary lighting & the furniture in the conservatory, it has a high standard of finish & we found if very impressive. I never venture further North than Glenridding, but having found this gem I will from now on. The staff & owner were lovely & friendly & made us feel very welcome.

Review 13:I paid with cash and they would not give me a receipt? I left my email address to send a receipt and I am still waiting.? At breakfast time the gardener lit a fire 3yd from my car. All hot ash was covering the car? Our room was full of smoke as we left the window open to get some fresh air during breakfast. The gardener should have asked me to move the car and could have waited while we left the guest house as when we put our bags in the car we couldn't breath for the belching smoke. So inconsiderate!!

Review 14:Not close to shops or restaurants, need to drive for amenities

Review 15:Beautiful location and view. Hotel itself was lovely, well renovated and maintained. Friendly staff.

Review 16:Staff at breakfast not overly friendly but served the purpose. Breakfast portion sizes incredibly small for full English.

Review 17:The rooms were exceptional and views amazing

Review 18:Rooms need soundproofing. Could hear next doors TV and conversation far too much which upset the cosy feel.

Review 19:Gorgeous area of the lake district and lovely room + hosts.

Review 20:Didn't understand why the full cooked breakfast alternated the choice of beans hash browns and one other choice. I chose the vegetarian breakfast that included both the beans and hash brown and asked for bacon on the side. Just an observation.

Review 21:The b&b was really well presented. The breakfast in the morning was lovely, the room we had was a really nice size and the bathroom was immaculate.

Review 22:The smell on entering the room; this dissipated shortly after entering.

Review 23:Good breakfast, great veiw, friendly proprietress. Loved having an iron available and the choice of fruit yoghurt and nuts for breakfast as well as a good cooked breakfast.

Review 24:Noise from jacuzzi in adjacent room from midnight for approximately two hours.Owner very apologetic, said never had jacuzzi used at that time before

Review 25:Room, Breakfast and location was superb.

Review 26:The place is right next to the road. I can hear the cars passing by at night. The walls are not sound proof. You can hear snoring from other rooms.

Review 27:Easy to find. It was very quiet when visited. There was only few guests.

Review 28:Nothing to dislike!

Review 29:Julie and staff gave a super welcome. Everything is thought out for the guests comfort and is very clean. Room was warm and cosy. Fabulous view over hills and lake. Delicious breakfast, beautifully cooked. Highly recommend this fabulous B&B

Review 30:Location was a bit out of the way. Noise from other rooms as walls so thin. It lacked personal touch, no one running the bar. We felt it needed something else.

Review 31:Hotel was clean and tidy. Breakfasts were nice.

Review 32:Some phone signal problems in the area meant I missed a message about change of arrival time - Not necessarily the fault of the hotel though.

Review 33:I liked how friendly and helpful the staff were.

Review 34:Soundproofing was not very good between adjacent rooms, and WiFi was intermittent.

Review 35:Room was very well equipped with facilities I would not have expected in a guest house ( slippers, bathrobe, good sized TV). View was excellent over the lake and fells. Excellent position for Pooley Bridge or Glenridding.

Review 36:Came for a wedding with my husband, son and his girlfriend. The owner and staff were really friendly and made us very welcome. The rooms had fabulous views of the mountain and the food was individually cooked and was delicious. I couldn't fault the place at all and would certainly stay there again without any hesitation.

Review 37:The WIFI was intermittent at best, but this is a known issue for Julie and she is looking to improve this, and to be honest you shouldn't be using the WIFI unless you're instagramming how nice the hotel is.

Review 38:The hotel was fantastic, everything about it was premium quality, our hotel room was stunningly decorated and the Jacuzzi bath was the icing on the cake. The hotel is perfectly located if you have a car. 5 minutes into town for Pooley Bridge and 7 minutes to reach Ayre Force waterfall (which is beautiful and well worth it) Julie is a magnificent host, gave us lots of suggestions, and has 2 dogs which immediately is a win for us, they were awesome. Recommend all day long.

Review 39:Had to go out of my room and down the corridor to get wifi signal. We were warned about it though.

Review 40:Peaceful location. Very comfortable and modern accommodation. Super breakfast.

Review 41:The only thing and I'm sure they are looking into it is the internet coverage. Which they say they are looking into it. If they can get that working the best they can. Then the people that are saying will definitely be putting up their pictures of the hotel and area onto the Facebook or social media sites Could lower the price a bit ?

Review 42:Where the hotel was in a great location beautiful lake nice drive great location

Review 43:Nothing major, just one little niggle, the pillows aren't very comfy

Review 44:Lovely hotel and great staff, room was beautiful and modern, like the idea of the "honesty bar",breakfast was good, the hotel is in a very quiet area, ullswater lake is nice, some lovely views

Review 45:Very clean and modern hotel with glorious mountain views. Room was a great size with excellent facilities (and a coffee cafetiere which was a great touch.) The breakfast was ample with lots of choice and the food quality was of a high standard. It really set us up for the day ahead. We'll definitely be back.

Review 46:No one on desk during check in hours. Noone answering the phone and no answering machine. Very poor sound proofing, and noisy boiler and water system. WiFi mostly doesn't work.

Review 47:The bed was comfortable and good en suite.

Review 48:View wasn't as good as I was hoping of the lake (given the name of the place....). External Lights were on outside my room all night giving a bit of a glare and the Whirlpool bath didn't have an adjustment on the pressure of the jets and was a bit lacklustre. Just dont empty the bath at the same time as having a shower as apparently the plumbing isn't up to it (did inform the owner of this so will hopefully be rectified)

Review 49:Nice big room (was in the Whirlpool bath room) and nice and clean. Having a fridge in the room was handy too.

Review 50:That we had to go home.

Review 51:Very warm welcome, lovely room with fabulous view, could even see the lake. Very comfy bed. Iron & board in room is a good touch, hairdryer, bath robes, slippers and tea/coffee too. Breakfast was delicous. Best sausages ever. Toast was made with homemade bread and scrummy bramble jam - homemade too!

Review 52:Our room was comfortable and clean. The location was convenient as a starting place for our daily activities (hiking, visiting Windermere, Ullswater Steamer, etc). The lobby had plenty of board games for families to enjoy. Our children loved this part of our stay. The service overall was excellent. I would also recommend purchasing the picnic lunch if you're hiking in the area. I will definitely stay here again if traveling in the area.

Review 53:Fantastic location and everything was perfect. Lovely breakfast and friendly staff. Really quiet at night too even though my bedroom was next to the stairs which I thought would mean noise when people came in late but I didn't hear a thing.

Review 54:Nothing major - just slightly isolated for us, but not enough to stop us from staying again.

Review 55:Great B&B, every little detail to the bedrooms, a great breakfast with homemade bread.

Review 56:there was only one cup so once of made my son his hot chocolate I couldn't then have my tea.

Review 57:The high standard of finish of the room instantly puts your mind at rest and you can relax immediately. I would highly recommend this place for a long period or even just a night over. Beautiful place. N

Review 58:Excellent location with lovely views. The landlady was very friendly and very helpful. he recommended the Fellbites restaurant which proved to be very good. We liked the idea of the honesty bar, but didn't use it.

Review 59:Walls a bit thin. A lot of noise from people either side.

Review 60:Wonderful host. Excellent service & breakfast. Lovely touches in room. Had a hotel like feel. Beautiful view of fells from the room.

Review 61:Breakfast coffee was a little weak but fresh coffee was immediately and willingly brought when requested.

Review 62:Superb, tasteful, modern decor, room and bathroom appeared recently refurbished. Helpful and friendly staff who helped organise a taxi for us. Good breakfast choice -we loved the toast which looked like it was made from home-made bread.

Review 63:Thank you, we stayed the night of the 12th July the shower was fantastic!! the bed was comfy the view from our bedroom window was outstanding! I would recommend the Ullswater Guest House to all my friends. Thank you Julie

Review 64:Immaculate rooms, very well presented. Very friendly and helpful owner, good list of recommended local restaurants. Particularly liked the home made bread at breakfast. Views over Ullswater. Very helpful with providing take away walking guides.Thoroughly recommended.

Review 65:had one breakfast which was slightly under cooked but there was a new chef being trained up but owner.the did sort out the problem and apologised.

Review 66:the staff were great the peace and quiet the modern clean accomondation

Review 67:Pair of socks from previous guest in top drawer Spillage in bottom drawer by previous guests had not been cleaned up Very compact room- appeared more spacious in advert

Review 68:Location of property Breakfast Comfort of bed

Review 69:The room was not overly clean. There was smelly carpet in the bathroom. We could hear the rooms either side going to the toilet, which is not really what you expect when you pay near to £100 a night! The cold breakfast was very limited and did not seem to be replenished when it ran out.

Review 70:The location. It did have a view of the lake, all be it through trees.

Review 71:The breakfast was delicious and well cooked but in our opinion could have been more. We do like a big breakfast which doesn't suit all....but that is our opinion

Review 72:the hotel was very modern and clean. The location was brilliant and nice and quiet. The staff were very polite and efficient. We liked the honesty bar!!

Review 73:Comfortable room and welcoming staff.Stayed at this establishment Over ten years ago .Julie is to be congratulated on what she has achieved in the modernisation of the property.Would definitely stay there again on any future visits to Cumbria

Review 74:Absolute fab, we loved every minute of our stay, staff were lovely as was breakfast and very good value too, will definitely be returning and recommending to everyone visiting the lakes.

Review 75:There was no one to meet us when we arrived - we asked another guest the way to the rooms. The only time I saw Julie was briefly to check out which was a shame as many reviews say what a lovey helpful lady she is. I feel the thick carpet in the bathroom is inappropriate and unhygienic and there was a big crack in the sink. A shelf in the bathroom would also be helpful.

Review 76:Location great. View from room lovely. Room nice and warm and had a nice TV. Good area for parking.

Review 77:Just a couple of things needed: A do not disturb sign for the door / dead bolt inside door lock - housekeeping walked straight in on us without knocking on the first morning. After which it felt as though any one could just come into the room. Unsettling!! Floor mat for the bathroom as the shower glass doesn't stop the water going out onto the floor.

Review 78:Room was beautiful and comfortable and the bathroom was lovely.

Review 79:One minor quibble was that the water pipes in our part of the building seemed to have an airlock, meaning we were woken by a very loud, persistent droning noise at 07:30 on Sunday morning for the duration of next door's shower. I mentioned it when leaving and have no doubt it'll be looked into and resolved as it seemed not to have happened before.

Review 80:Our 'executive double' had a huge comfortable bed, great view of the lake and top quality fixtures and fittings in the bathroom including an enormous shower. Breakfast was great; staff were friendly and full of good advice when we arrived. The "honesty bar" is a nice touch, although we didn't use it.

Review 81:You have the quiet beauty of the countryside away from the crowds but are still in the heart of the Lake District mountains. Close to the motorway but you seem to be miles away from it as it is so peaceful & quiet.

Review 82:Wifi isn't brilliant, but that is typical of the remoteness of the location. Water could be hotter at times.

Review 83:The location is stunning, breakfast was delicious, staff are very friendly.

Review 84:Our beds were soft but comfy enough for a sleep for a couple of nights

Review 85:Lovely b&b by the lake. Beautiful views and very clean and cosy. Showers were good and powerful too and they had an honesty bar if you wanted a drink Hot cooked breakfast / cereal / fruit etc was very welcomed with last orders at 09.30am Was a good stay and we would recommend to others All B&Bs were about the same price of £80 per night around the area

Review 86:Internet was very slow but that is a feature of the area, not the fault of the owners

Review 87:Really enjoyed our stay here, ample parking and a lovely view from our room.

Review 88:The only little thing I would like to see is the ensuite tiled rather than carpeted, to ensure complete hygiene around the toilet.

Review 89:A good nights sleep. Breakfast :-)

Review 90:Even though it said breakfast starts at half past, we were locked out of the breakfast room and made to stand in the cold hallway for 15 minutes while (the daughter? I think) got breakfast ready (still wearing her dressing gown, so this could have been a one off & she simply slept in that morning? - but no need to lock the door & leave us stood outside like school children). The owner is a lovely lady, but the locked out incident needs to be mentioned so it doesn't happen to other guests. Nowhere to eat within walking distance, so if you are planning a meal and a couple of alcoholic drinks, you need to factor a taxi into your plans.

Review 91:Clean & tidy. Nice rooms.

Review 92:nothing much, plentyl of hotels and pubs in driving distance to eat in evening.

Review 93:location and luxurious quality of everything including breakfast. Nice personal service from owners

Review 94:If you want more pubs and restaurants, stay in Glenridding or Pooley bridge. The main road doesn't have a pavement so walking in the dark was quite dangerous. You need a torch to go to the pub!

Review 95:Perfect guest house and gorgeous bespoke breakfast cooked just for you. Lovely big room and nice details. Beautiful coffee in the room. Ullswater a lovely lake and this is close to Aira waterfalls and other attractions close by by car.

Review 96:Nothing!

Review 97:A lovely 2-night stay. We were suitably impressed with all aspects of the guest house. Modern, tasteful decor, fabulous breakfasts and a warm welcome. Highly recommend the family room. Peaceful location and a great base to explore the area with lots to see nearby.

Review 98:We loved everything about the Ullswater View guesthouse, the room, the views, the breakfast, the bar...the location was very good for a variety of walks and nearby to villages or towns for pubs & restaurants. We hope to return soon! Thanks Julie for a wonderful stay :)

Review 99:Although we loved the whirlpool bath it took forever to fill and was lukewarm...still a great addition to the room though

Review 100:Staff were friendly and polite and happy to assist but but also left us to enjoy our stay without being pestered

Review 101:Lack of dressing table in bedroom, nowhere to put stuff whilst drying hair and applying make-up, a woman thing!!!..

Review 102:Friendly staff, comfortable room, lovely views. Breakfast very good.

Review 103:The blue lighting externally doesn't work for us. An interesting design touch, yes, but approaching on a wet late December evening, it made the place look cold (which it wasn't)

Review 104:Extremely welcoming, friendly, professional service. Modern bedroom, with good design sense and nice touches. Great location. Freshly cooked breakfast.

Review 105:This is a fantastic place with great owners. They made us feel very welcome and went out their way to axcomadate us. I'll definable go back for a longer stay

Review 106:A lot of stairs & not advised when requested from establishment for room1.Carpet in bathroom, yuk. Old used coffee in coffee pot option. Musty smell fam room. Charging extra price £30 for chd1/1inf no cot. Had email confirming 4in rm £110 ? Our rm shown on yr web king rm £89 exact photo, charge unknown, no receipt or paperwork ??

Review 107:Beautiful location & good breakfast with very friendly staff.

Review 108:There was nothing.

Review 109:Staff (Julie) were fantastic, helpful and very very accommodating. Breakfast was fantastic. Room was really very nice and very comfortable. The additional assistance and no trouble attitude of the staff (Julie) really made our stay wonderful. We will return and highly recommend this hotel.

Review 110:Shame there was no bath in our room, even tho it was an upgrade and flat bottomed sink did not drain very well. No chocolates on the bed for us :(

Review 111:We stayed here for a wedding anniversary treat. We were impressed with the modern decor snd thoughtful touches. Windows that opened properly out to amazing views of the area. Very, very quiet at night.

Review 112:Nothing

Review 113:Location. Lovely views over Ullswater. Excellent varied cooked breakfast each morning. Tea and coffee making facilities. Modern room an de suite -home from home.

Review 114:The dining room had suffered a flood from the room above and the whole of the ceiling had been torn down.but the dining room had been moved into the conservatory .This was not problem and I think the staff coped very well .I would stay there again.

Review 115:Bathroom would be better if it had a toilet brush.

Review 116:Great view of the lake and hillside, trusting staff and easy to get on with, great food, very comfortable, felt personally looked after

Review 117:Optional pack lunch wasn't brillaint, we arrived at dinner and knowbody was in till tea time. Not a brillaint service!

Review 118:Location, everything was easy, laid back staff

Review 119:We had a nice stay on our way to and back from Scotland. The Ullswater View is very conveniently located, rooms are comfortable and everything is done to make your stay pleasant. Excellent breakfast. Keep on!

Review 120:as we did not have a car it was a little difficult arranging taxis. no phone reception and poor wifi.

Review 121:would definitely recommend. would love to return. gorgeous location.

Review 122:Little bit of road noise during the day (not at night or early morning though.

Review 123:Very comfortable, clean, modern accommodation, large room. Lovely views over the lake and hills. Friendly and helpful owner.

Review 124:Ullswater View is the ideal location for exploring this idilic Lake. The view is excellent taking advantage of it's elevated position and embracing the hills on the other side. Staff were friendly and accommodating and we would like to be able to make a return visit sometime.

Review 125:Can't think of anything that we disliked.

Review 126:Very easy to find. Stunning view of Ullswater from room. Friendliness of staff. Great location for visiting other parts of the Lake District.

Review 127:Regret I couldn't stay longer.

Review 128:Fantastic friendly service. A really genuine welcome. Fab breakfast, all home made including the bread. Nothing too much trouble. Beautiful bedroom with a lovely view of Ullswater.

The Fine Print
