Reviews for Brackenrigg Inn

Review 1:Wonderful views and peaceful location. Warm and friendly knowledgeable staff, great cosy bar and good wholesome food. Single room was small but comfortable and had necessary facilities.

Review 2:Staff go out of their way to make your stay a pleasurable one. The lovely views from the Inn over look the lake. Pets are made very welcome. Food is able from morning to evening.

Review 3:Room is cozy with lake view, food served in the lounge was great too! Location is quite accessible with a bus stop just outside the hotel and a big parking area is available.

Review 4:Could hear the neighbour snore ,but I guess that was just bad luck.

Review 5:Convenient location with great walks close by. Lovely Inn, very cozy atmosphere and the food was delicious.

Review 6:Very little.

Review 7:Room was actually Suite with several separate rooms. Really nice layout and staff great. Got an awesome deal as late booking so everything was fantastic for the price I paid. Breakfast great

Review 8:The bathroom was very cold and damp.

Review 9:Its location near Ullswater and the friendly staff. The breakfast was excellent and the evening meal was also very good.

Review 10:technical issue at breakfast... but still enjoyable

Review 11:Great location with beautiful views Fantastic food Well stocked bar Friendly, helpful staff Plenty parking

Review 12:Poor customer service. I had made an unfortunate booking error for wrong night. Inn wouldn't take this into account and charged me full rate again on top of price already paid . Entry in to and out of shower very difficult. would have been near impossible for a ' large ' person

Review 13:Fantastic views of Ullswater. Our room over looked the lake which was breathtaking with autumn colours. It was quiet and confirtable. The food was good and freshly made.

Review 14:Booking.com to Inn details incorrect, we booked family room with 1 child the booking at the Inn stated double room with no children. Glad we rang the Inn prior to going to sort out. Still did not get a family room so we were a bit cramped.

Review 15:The food was a really nice treat, choice was good even for the children's menu. The staff did accommodate our requirement but Booking.com need to liaise with them to get the details right against the booking.

Review 16:En -suite was really small, had to open the door to bend down to the sink.

Review 17:Stayed for one night, the staff were really helpful and fun.Had a meal in the evening, both meals really good portions, tasty and not overpriced.Fantastic views from hotel and room. Breakfast was very good,

Review 18:The small bathroom and very small handwash basin made it difficult to get washed. There were no towel rails and no shelves to put toiletries on. Not enough accessible sockets - had to move the bed off the wall to find more sockets in order to charge phones. Also, no wifi in the rooms, only in the public areas.

Review 19:The view from our hotel bedroom over Lake Ullswater was beautiful. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly and the food was good. Also enjoyed the cozy fires in the bar and dining room which also enjoy views over the Lake.

Review 20:Location, location! Plus sunny dry weather. Excellent view of Ulswater from our room + good breakfast and evening meals. Also discovered cracking new 'local' 'gin, recommended by the hotel bar staff

Review 21:I needed a few days break somewhere reasonable and have always loved Ullswater so this was just what I wanted. The photo was taken from my bedroom window.

Review 22:We loved the beautiful view of the lake and surrounding hills out our second floor window. The room was large and the small bathroom quite modern. Dinner and breakfast were excellent.

Review 23:Nothing

Review 24:We received a very warm welcome and the proprietor was very helpful. The accommodation was spotlessly clean. Breakfast excellent and overall very good value.

Review 25:Excellent Service throughout. Breakfast top class both in quality and quantity. Very pleasant staff, very attentive, and efficient. We could not ask for more on our short stay.We will be back for a longer stay, that's for sure..

Review 26:Staff are business-like, not friendly, but not unfriendly either. But what put me off is the dirty carpets!!! The dishes at breakfast came with chipped bowls and some were not CLEAN!

Review 27:Breakfast was tasty. Pretty view from the room even though the advert was a bit misleading, I thought the hotel was on the waterfront.

Review 28:Bed was too small/ narrow. We should have specified king size when booking. Hall and stairs carpet was very worn and grubby, although the carpet in our room was ok. Shower area was worn and very cramped.

Review 29:Food, location, staff

Review 30:I did not appreciate being contacted by the management post my stay and accused of leaving without paying my bill when I had clearly settled it and was able to prove this fact. I did not even receive an apology for their bad administration error !!!!!!!

Review 31:Enjoyable and comfortable stay in beautiful surroundings.

Review 32:The booking.com underhand method of securing a booking fee.

Review 33:Booking.com had misrepresented the charges. The price quoted and confirmed by booking.com included full board. The manager said he had told booking.com that the charge was for bed and breakfast only but they took no notice and continued to quote the price as full board. I feel that booking.com should pay for the extra amount we had to pay for food.

Review 34:The TV did not work properly; the volume was too low and didn't seem to be altered, despite staff attempts to rectify this. The evening meal needed more fresh vegetables.

Review 35:The staff were welcoming and friendly

Review 36:The shower room was very small. You had to come out of the shower room to close the shower door them go back in the shower room. No where to hang towels.

Review 37:Location bed and breakfast good Staff friendly. Amazing views from room.

Review 38:The exit from the carpark did not offer a good view of traffic coming from the direction of Glenriddig

Review 39:The location and the views from our bedroom were lovely.Food was excellent

Review 40:The view from my room, staff were friendly and the evening meal I had in the pub was excellent. Also very convenient as a stopover for my journey to the north of Scotland.

Review 41:Room could have been bigger, but for one night it was fine.

Review 42:Lovely. Of the 12 previous accomodations, this was the best. Great bar. Good restaurant and clean comfortable room.

Review 43:Useless WiFi

Review 44:Clean, comfortable, convenient, beautiful surroundings, delicious breakfast! An apartment for the price of a room, fantastic value for money!

Review 45:Noisy room at top of the stairs, poor WiFi, very, very cramped bathroom and dated décor. The breakfast was very poor, not cooked properly and mainly cold. We only stayed for one night so as soon as we finished we were leaving. The staff at breakfast were obviously very busy with a lot of people staying at the place, so in this instance we just put up with it.

Review 46:Location, View from the room, Friendly Staff & Bar.

Review 47:Beautiful location with views over Ullswater, bus service outside the front door, walks in the countryside. The friendly and helpful staff, the excellent food and the choice of local ales all made our stay thoroughly enjoyable.

Review 48:Nothing, for the money £100 a night we could not fault it.

Review 49:We stayed in room 1, family room with lake view. The one with turquoise accessories in the internet pictures. The view of Ullswater and the far eastern fells is stunning. The room is spacious and comfortable with a reasonable sized flat screen TV. We enjoyed the breakfast. Plenty of parking spaces. Small but clean and functional bathroom with just enough room for the toilet basin and shower cubicle. We hope to stay here again. Did not try the wifi.

Review 50:Although I would rate it as good food it is still more pub than fine dining so expensive , a few mistakes on our drinks bill ( I still think over £6 for a large ( ordinary good) wine is expensive anyway) and a medium rare rib eye served well done is a real clanger (@ nearly £20)

Review 51:Lovely view over lake at front, rural idyll, good bar, at around £80 per night very good value considering the position and in high season in the lakes. Friendly ( mostly) staff.

Review 52:Attitude of manager on duty (older female short fair hair) was dismissive and rude. Other staff friendly but too busy and making mistakes as a result. Cleanliness of bar area, menu cards tables were dirty/greasy. Food was not in keeping with price. Some advertised dishes were either incomplete (lack of ingredients?) or unavailable. Overall tired looking.

Review 53:Location.

Review 54:Friendly staff, tasty breakfast with good variety, both quality and quantity good. Excellent room service, made the beds and cleaned the room the next day which we hadn't expected so was nice to go back to a tidy room.

Review 55:We were given room 12 which was a suite...fantastic accommodation but the matress was really hard and needs replacing.

Review 56:Brilliant staff, fantastic views, food was excellent. We ate our evening meal in the restuarant and it was very good.... breakfast was amazing, good choice and freshly served by pleasant staff. Would definately recommend the Inn and would return again.

Review 57:Shower cubicle was very small. Poor WiFi in room - downstairs ok. Kitchen staff need to cater for Gluten Free diets more - I provided my own porridge which was poorly cooked/prepared - more like soup than porridge.

Review 58:The location was great - easy driving distance from other Lake District attractions. The view from our room over Ullswater was lovely. The room was clean/tidy. Most of the staff were very friendly/helpful.

Review 59:Sausages are too big, looked like they had been previously cooked (slightly cooked) and reheated for breakfast.. Not impressed. Noticed the waitress using her bare fingers to put butter in the dishes for breakfast at the tables. When we booked we said it was for our Honeymoon, it would have been nice if there was a little something to make us feel 'special' when we arrived at our room.

Review 60:The location is beautiful.

Review 61:The hall doors slamming shut and staff using rooms next door to talk loudly on loudspeaker at night.

Review 62:The location is fantastic. And their evening food and breakfast is lovely

Review 63:Size of room very small, the same with bathroom, very claustraphobic. Not suitable for two people to get dressed/undressed at same time!

Review 64:Bar & restaurant superb very enjoyable

Review 65:Sticky tables in restaurant and bar area. Poor wi-fi connection. Comfort of bed was very poor.

Review 66:Fantastic meal from the restaurant. Menu was only small but choices good. Especially the burger. Breakfast was gorgeous. Location and view were breath taking.

Review 67:Late check in time of 4pm was a bit of a disappointment although we had a few drinks in the bar while waiting so not too bad overall.

Review 68:Nice view across Ullswater and easy to find. Situated just back from the main road but quiet at night so not an issue. Good meals in the bar too!

Review 69:Bar closed to early, bathroom was to small I was always afraid the shower door would break against the sink if a more rotund person were to stay they would not be able to use the shower.

Review 70:Staff where always helpful, food was great and the location was great peaceful and quiet.

Review 71:The view was brilliant being an artist I was really able to appreciate that fact , as I had a lake view I was warm comfortable and very happy with my breakfasts I would recommend to all.

Review 72:Need to look more into cleaniness as some towels and bed sheet found dirty. Room should be clean properly if pet stayed there already. Internet

Review 73:Nice stay , excellent location , a very nice and peaceful atmosphere . Room and all facilities were excellent. Friendly staff . Should come back again

Review 74:Had to run hot tap for 4-5 minutes before hot water came through to be able to shower. Some of the food dishes were a little boring tasteless. Breakfast bacon mostly fatty/rind and undercooked (may be to some peoples taste but not mine). TV remote and bath mat both disappeared during my stay, reported but not replaced.

Review 75:Good value, handy location near north end of Ullswater, good beer, extensive food menu. Wifi worked reasonably well, only a bit slow when restaurant/bar full in evening but that was purely due to amount of users.

Review 76:I didn't have a reading light by the bed. Despite being a dog friendly hotel, there was no bin provided outside for dog waste. The coffee served at breakfast was absolutely appalling, so weak that I may as well have had hot water with milk and sugar. Also the WIFI was not working.

Review 77:The location and views were great. The room was nice and a good size. The cooked breakfast was good.

Review 78:The food was good but the cooking of it varied (presumably depending on who was on duty).

Review 79:Location on the side of Ullswater and being able to have dinner on the premises.

Review 80:This B&B by any stretch of the imagination is not worth the £90 a night especially tiny room 5, it is so desperately indeed of renovation and SHOULD be priced accordingly! There was black mould all over the tiny bathroom ceiling, the window frame was rotten and greatly in need of some TLC as did the full bedroom, the mattress was really uncomfortable, this room at best should be priced around the £40-£50 mark, everything was so tired and dated. The breakfast one day one was hot but not the best half a slice of black pudding...really??? the sausages were gristly not the local produce you would expect, day 2 was the complete opposite, cold breakfast, rock hard sausages, a desert spoon full of beans and a solid poached egg...but a full slice of black pudding...no consistency at all.

Review 81:The bedding and towels are very white and clean The shower is hot The view is beautiful Great location...and that's it!

Review 82:We liked everything about the place, but felt that it would benefit from the attentions of a decorator.

Review 83:The location, A relaxed atmosphere despite being busy. All the meals were excellent and well presented. Above all we thought all the staff were wonderful. Our room was basic but adequate & clean.

Review 84:Bedroom were clean and had everything I wanted but is now about ready to have a fresh coat of paint.

Review 85:Very friendly staff and good clean accommodation. Felt very comfortable travelling on my own. Good food and a very reasonable price.

Review 86:The furniture in the bedroom with exception of the bed...was a bit tired. Plus the double glazing was fogged up and restricted the fabulous view.

Review 87:We loved the atmosphere, especially in the bar with the 'real' fire blazing as it was quite chilly. Food was amazing, staff very pleasant and accommodating - the comfort of the bed after a long tiring day was wonderful.

Review 88:En suite was so small had a job to get in shower and only had a tiny basin. No where to put any toiletries or hang towels.Seen bigger cupboards.

Review 89:Location lovely, Staff great,Food wonderful.

Review 90:My window didn't fully close and people beneath having a drink were noisy, bed too hard and food not really value for money. Staff very nice though.

Review 91:The views

Review 92:Unfortunately the place is looking very tired and the food which had been a highlight was OK but nothing more. Staff work long hours.

Review 93:We have stayed here four or five times over the last ten years. The bed was comfy and the cooked breakfast was substantial and hot.

Review 94:Bed 1 needs to be re-configured. Too much wasted space. Double bed small and uncomfortable. En-suite much too small. Window panes need replacing.

Review 95:Location and food

Review 96:En suite was rather small though OK but not for the obese............

Review 97:Casual attitude of staff but friendly and helpful. The view from our window was superb. Food enjoyable.

Review 98:The room, although spotless was old fashioned & the bathroom extremely dated. The toilet flush kept breaking so my husband repaired it about 4 times & the door frames hadn't been painted. It felt more like a slightly smarter youth hostel. The price didn't reflect this.

Review 99:Good location & friendly helpful staff, also very clean.

Review 100:The breakfast was very poor. Tinned fruit and raw bacon. But at the price you pay , I didn't expect much more !!!

Review 101:This hotel compared to others in the area is great value for money. Staff are very helpful and friendly. All in all a good 2 night stay

Review 102:Excellent location had a lake view, stunning, in the middle of Pooley Bridge and Glennridding, so ideal to visit both. Room, facililities and food could not fault.

Review 103:Stayed here recently for a weekend for a friend's wedding. The hotel was ideally located for us as it was only a short walk to the nearby hotel for the wedding. The hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating..The bar had a lit.open fire when we arrived which was just lovely to settle down with some drinks after after our long drive. The accommodation itself is quute basic but homely and comfortable (not fancy modern decor). We ate with friends in the restaurant on the Friday evening and everybody had a lovely meal. Breakfast was made to order and was equally good. Would definitely be staying again when in this part of the lake district.

Review 104:A little bit noisy, the rooms were expensive and we couldn't pay for one room but each person had to pay the full price ( for instance if I decided to sleep in the same room as my parents I had to spend 45 pounds or I could book an individual room for myself which doesn't really make sens) the view of some rooms were sad (they saw the car park instead of the lake).

Review 105:the showers were in the bedrooms, nice area

Review 106:Unfortunately timed power cut meant no cooked breakfast was possible but they did manage to make me a bacon sandwich which I enjoyed.

Review 107:Pleasant clean room with superb view over lake. Locally sourced food was delicious.

Review 108:staff on arrival made me feel like an inconvenience to the point I did not bother trying to have a evening meal as they were more than happy to tell me they were busy and short staffed. Breakfast not available until 8am too late for early walk.

Review 109:location and view fantastic

Review 110:Nothing really. The only thing I would say is the decor looks a bit "tired"it could do with a lick of paint here and there and some new carpeting in places but that is ainor point. Overall was very pleased and would stay there again and would recommend it.

Review 111:Position - politeness of staff - breakfasts cooked to order NOT a help yourself buffet & very good - best steak I've had in ages - bar area v good and ales well kept. They are planning to brew their own soon

Review 112:Having to go home so soon!

Review 113:Nothing was too much trouble for the staff from organizing a surprise bouquet for my wife to arranging a great packed lunch before we went walking for the day. The highlight was the food which was absolutely superb, from locally sourced produce, at a fair price.

Review 114:Ideally a little more fresh fruit for breakfast and a little more ambience in the dining room and bar. Decor and furniture a bit tired in places .

Review 115:Generally welcoming atmosphere provided by staff, great lake view, main road not really a problem, superb breakfast and good evening meal. Our request to change rooms to one with a bath was so courteously and effectively handled by Simon, he is a great asset to the place!

Review 116:Old Inn, but warm and clean. Good food and a welcoming coal fire in the bar lounge. The Manageress was very friendly as was the chef/waiter. lady from Doncaster

Review 117:The bathroom was dreadful one had to keep the door open to access the shower would put us off returning

Review 118:the staff were excellent very helpful, friendly, always there but never in your face

Review 119:Couldn't get wifi in rooms only in pub

Review 120:Really nice accommodation larger than expected, excellent pub meals and breakfast in the morning friendly staff would defiantly stay there again.

Review 121:Couldn't sleep The mattress was very uncomfortable very firm and the springs groaned when you turned over I am not heavy

Review 122:very dog friendly which is great for us excellent meals friendly staff superb views

Review 123:Eating in the evening is either in the bar which is warm and cosy but with limited space or in the chilly and dreary dining room which badly needs updating.

Review 124:Location very convenient for the Marmalade Festival - the purpose of out trip.

Review 125:Room was chilly - heating went off at night. No hot water except for morning. Breakfast service a tad slow but breakfast was fine. Staff not over friendly/helpful but polite. Room was clean but pillows were old - stained and lumpy.

Review 126:Location beautiful. Good value for money

Review 127:The staff were not very welcoming unfortunately. Smiles were missing

Review 128:This hotel was situated in a beautiful location, the view from our bedroom window was unrivalled. The food was excellent along with a well stocked bar.

Review 129:Waited ten minutes on second day for coffee to be served without any acknowledgement and half an hour for breakfast. Staff not very friendly and 'no thank you for your business hope you enjoyed your stay' etc. was just given receipt. Mattress needed replacing as very uncomfortable. myself and husband didn't get a very good nights sleep.

Review 130:Location good was good within easy reach of Pooley Bridge. Lovely cosy but spacious room. Nice fluffy white towels and spacious bathroom.

Review 131:Dog owners accommodation- very YHA ish, dated, cold lighting, dirty carpets, no sound proofing, noisy water system, dusty, messy paintwork. Owners lovely Jag parked outside says it all.

Review 132:The location was great. The Brackenrigg 'could' be amazing as it has no competition. Alex Poleski would have a field day-run on a shoestring.

Review 133:The Inn is long overdue for an overall decoration.

Review 134:The location.plus the availability for us to change our room due to it having a small bathroom with no bath to a bigger bedroom with bath and shower
