Reviews for Willow & Holly Cottages @ Rampsbeck
Review 1:Loved the very comfortable and cosy bed. The lounge area was lovely too, especially considering it was "dog friendly"! The super warm underfloor heating was great in the bathroom :-) Hotel staff very friendly and helpful, which we could have stayed longer!
Review 2:Not particularly child friendly- the restaurant doesn't allow under tens, and the bar menu doesn't have a child section. Also there wasn't enough room for our travel cot in the Holly Cottage bedroom. We stayed two nights and no cleaner came to the cottage during our stay (at £175 a night I would expect this!)
Review 3:Beautiful location. Lovely looking hotel. Good basic amenities in the cottage.
Review 4:Better information about the cottage and its inner workings. i.e. What they offer and what is available in the area.
Review 5:The view was lovely and the location was great. The cottage was comfortable and cozy.
Review 6:The Holly cottage should be for 2 adults and not 4 adults and the sofa bed cannot be slept in.
Review 7:If I rented the Holly cottage for 2 adults I would have rated this higher at 9. But it was for 4 Adults and the sofa bed mattress needs replacing. We had to sleep on the floor as teh mattress was like a wire rack. You should not rent this for 4 people but should be advertise for 2 adults only
Review 8:we rented the holly cottage for 4 and the quality of the sofa bed was very poor! Additionally there are only few foot path reachable from the area so if you don't have a car count some budget for transport to aira force or glenridding.
Review 9:helpful staff nice calm surrounding lovely cottage. board games where available in the cottage. breakfast although expensive was very good.
Review 10:The exterior and patio of the cottage could do with a spruce up (but the inside was fabulous)
Review 11:Wonderful lakeside location and views, extremely comfortable and well equipped cottage. Lots of space. Good wifi.
Review 12:Felt slightly cut off from everything and unable to walk to anywhere ok for a couple of days but wouldn't book for a week
Review 13:Very spacious and excellent view from the living room windows of the steamer going past was worried that the accommodation might be cleverly photographed and small but it wasn't the case the hotel is typical of the lake district it's a little old fashioned and a little quiet but the location was excellent for a short stay
Review 14:In our cottage there was a small step between the lounge-dining area and the kitchen-bathroom-bedroom area. We had to be very careful not to fall over the step&ended up placing a chair in the middle. The wifi was a bit slow, though we managed.
Review 15:The location is perfect. The scenery from the cottage besutiful. We had a lovely time. The cottage is decorated beautifully&has a warm atmospere.
Review 16:Cottages were very clean and homely. The view over the river was amazing and the comfort of the cottages were outstanding. Very quiet location and staff were very patient as we were a noisy group. Sorry about that. Overall a lovely holiday home from home.
Review 17:Would have liked some coat hooks just inside the door. DVD player within TV didn't work, but reception provided us with an external one we could use. Would be nice to have twin bed option in Holly Cottage.
Review 18:Lovely cottage, in lovely location. Lots of nice finishing touches & even jug of milk in fridge when we arrived. Children loved it and want to go bak
Review 19:The fact that the receptionist could not get my surname right. Constantly had to correct her.
Review 20:The view from the seating area in the lounge if the cottage
Review 21:Wifi was iffy at best, Light outside the room attracted lots of mozzies with no way to turn it off.
Review 22:Pleasant comfortable apartment, nice shower/bathroom. Facilities are ok, cooker/microwave and dishwasher.
Review 23:Wifi could have been better but due to the rural location any signal is a bonus and the pub nearby (5 mins walk) has a good connection.
Review 24:We loved everything about our stay at Holly Cottage and it's much bigger than we expected for a one bedroom property. It's done out very well with all the mod cons you need. The location is perfect for visiting the north lakes and the setting is beautiful. Our Patterdale terrier loved his daily swim in the lake which is just a minute or so walk from the cottage. When we travel with our dog we usually go for secluded properties so although Holly Cottage is attached to the hotel and has no private garden it didn't effect our stay at all and we'll definitely be returning very soon.
Review 25:Wifi was completely lacking - but we didn't go to the Lakes to be on ipads (checking my work email would have been useful though). We had a few issues with hot water, but this was resolved as quickly as they could.
Review 26:Completely wonderful Lakeside spot with all the facilities we could need. The staff couldn't do enough to help, and finding such a nice spot to take our young dog was fabulous. We didn't eat at the hotel, but the food at the pub next door was amazing!!
Review 27:need instructions on using oven so we dont have to call reception, but service was prompt and efficient
Review 28:lovely cottage . luxury , lovely views . privacy
Review 29:There is very limited internet access at the cottage.
Review 30:We stayed in Holly Cottage which is situated next to the main hotel building. The quality and comfort of the cottage is brilliant, and has the benefit of the privacy and space that you don't get in a hotel but at a competitive price. You can make as much use of the hotel facilities as you wish but the cottage has the facilities to cater independently if you wish. The cottage is situated at a tranquil location looking out onto lake ullswater but is handy for pooley bridge, glenridding and the brackenrigg inn is just a very short walk from the cottage. The cottage sports a luxurious bathroom with underfloor heating and the cleanliness is second to none. It really is a very comfortable place to stay especially for a couple. We have plans to return to Holly Cottage very soon.
Review 31:We booked the apartment through Booking.com and we were expecting to find 2x double beds, but instead, it was a double bed plus a sofa bed in the dinning room. My daughters didn't enjoyed so much. For future, this should be mentioned in the apartment details. We also found some human air over the new linen set for the sofa bed, but it was quickly solved by ourselves.
Review 32:Almost everything! The location, the food, the kindness from the staff...
Review 33:The cottage is in a wonderful location and provides all the amenities you need for a small family. Very comfortable and quite spacious! The staff in the hotel were very accommodating, I needed to print documents and then use the fax machine and they were very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble!
Review 34:The sofa bed wasn't particularly comfortable to sleep on. Wouldn't recommend anyone to sleep on it for more than a night or 2.
Review 35:Very comfortable accommodation Bed in main bedroom very comfortable Easy to find Friendly and helpful staff Well-equipped kitchen and bathroom
Review 36:Wifi was not great but at the end of the day that was good because we wasn't on phones all time
Review 37:I stayed for 2 nights and loved every moment the cottage was great lots of room for me my wife and 2 boys one is12 and other 2 we went to most lakes while staying there and ulswater was the best the gardens at the hotel was nice to walk round and at some point would love to return again
Review 38:An earlier check in time would have been better. We couldn't access our cottage until 2.00pm. This meant changing into our walking clothes in the hotel loos so we could go for an afternoon hike and leaving our luggage and food shopping in the car until early evening when we returned.
Review 39:All of the benefits of very comfortable self catering accommodation with the advantage of a luxury hotel next door. Supper in the hotel bar was a good family friendly alternative to dinner in the restaurant. The meal was extremely good value and of fine dining quality. The staff were helpful and attentive and made us feel very welcome. Complimentary tea, jar of coffee, fresh milk, sugar, basket of logs all appreciated.
Review 40:Overall willow cottage was exceptional, very clean & tidy, beds so comfortable, lovely views of lake, nice little touches, i.e milk in fridge, tea, coffee, biscuits for our arrival & logs for the fire, very impressed can't fault, looking forward to return
Review 41:Loved everything about this place thankyou ! Greeted by friendly staff the cottage was gorgeous definitely will return but for a longer break next time! Only fault was the wifi but actually....who cares when you go away for a complete chilled out couple of days!
Review 42:Excellent, nothing bad to say whatsoever. Cottage was clean, tidy, a lot more spacious than the photos represent. Nearest supermarket (huge Sainsbury's) is about a 10 mins drive away and a stone's throw away from the lake. Perfect, would certainly stay again. (WiFi was a bit hit and miss, excellent in good weather but a bit spotty when heavy rain. But to be honest if you are bothered about not being able to access the Internet whilst being somewhere with such amazing views and environment then you need to take a good hard look at your life!)
Review 43:Nothing really. Although you are practically not connected to the internet at the cottage, you could drive 6 miles to Penrith town centre for 3G access and other amenities.
Review 44:1. Comforts of home in the cottage with a fully equipt and functional kitchen 2. Privacy of a cottage with only a next door Holly cottage neighbour 3. Private parking space right at the front of the cottage 4. Nice frontage with a view of the lake 5. Private estate with beautifully maintained gardens with wild roaming rabbits and yaks. 6. Access to the banks of the lake connected to the Rampsbeck property 7. A great escape from the urban London lifestyle 8. Clean and neatly maintained cottage that is rather newly refurbished (est. 2012). 9. Smooth and reliable booking through Booking.com 10. Friendly and quick check in and check out experience Note to tech savvy travellers (as at end Aug 2014). Although there is access to Rampsbeck free WiFi (may be throttled with access control) and BT paid WiFi services, it is not very reliable and weak in signal strength. Only patchy and super slow GPRS service available via the mobile phone. Normal mobile service for voice call is strong (above 4 signal bars). This is in the 'Like' section as it has a positive side effect on our family. It has forced us to forget our unconnected devices and instead, spending quality time bonding with the family!
Review 45:We loved the decor and facilities in the cottage, the small kitchen was very well equipped. The views were amazing, both of the lake, and surrounding countryside. It was peaceful and relaxing. We will return for sure.
Review 46:Modern and spacious cottage with beautiful views of Ullswater lake. Attached to the lovely Rampsbeck Hotel which provides fine dining. Lots of restaurants within a short drive and also only 5 mind from the Aira Force Waterfalls which is a must see. Would definitely come back here.
Review 47:Wifi was spotty.
Review 48:The roomy living room with a fantastic view! I could sit by the large corner window staring at the lake for hours! The cottage itself was plenty big for our family of 5, having two bedrooms. I'm sure we could have fit more. The staff was great and easy going (although we were not surprised by this, sometimes it's unusual for such a fancy hotel). Great location for ullswater activities! Easy parking. Lovely grounds and gardens.
Review 49:Not a problem for us as we had some groceries but as the cottages are in a rural setting the shops for groceries are some distance away and have very limited food selection. Take some food along for first day breakfast etc or eat in the hotel. Wifi signal is weak (welcome to the country side - let go : )
Review 50:Cottages are very well equipped and maintained. The location is in the quieter more rural part of the Lake District and has beautiful views across the water. Staff were very helpful and polite. There is limited parking outside the cottages but plenty in front of the main hotel which is about 100m away. Some coffee/tea, milk and sugar were provided. Good washing machine and dryer in the attached outbuilding (shared with the next door cottage).
Review 51:Too brief a stay!
Review 52:Lovely cottages Great staff
Review 53:The views were spectacular. We could see the lake and surrounded by Highland cattle. Very clean and homely
Review 54:Lied too no washing machine

Review 62:Wifi didn't work sometimes.
Review 63:Peaceful and quite environment. Very helpful and friendly staff. Close to the lake side.
Review 64:Cottage was super comfortable.location was great and whole experience so enjoyable.
Review 65:Amazing location, so clean, well appointed and cosy!
Review 66:Would have been helpful to have an outside rubbish bin.
Review 67:Surroundings and facilities.
Review 68:Beautiful views of Lake and mountains
Review 69:Sofa bed really very uncomfy, used cushions on floor instead.
Review 70:Views from the lounge, just glorious.
Review 71:excellent location straight out onto private lakeside gardens
Review 72:everything its just perfect even being able to control the central heating via thermostat, and the lovely warm bathroom. cant wait for next visit.
Review 73:Great apartment and location for checking out the Lakes District
Review 74:The wifi.
Review 75:The view and the accommodation.
Review 76:Quiet and relaxing
Review 77:Wi fi connection is quite poor
Review 78:The view and the location are really great we even couldn't have better than what we had. The staff are nice, kind and helpful. Briefly this accommodation is brilliant and outstanding.
Review 79:Storage in the kitchen was quite limited, a few more places to store food for the week would have been very helpful.
Review 80:Very cosy and well situated for our week of activities. We were impressed with the extra details such as the welcome facilities, tea, coffee etc and the bathroom towels were very luxurious. The cottage was very well equipped and spacious which made our stay very comfortable.
Review 81:Had to phone hotel re hot water both mornings. Plastic wine glasses. Another bathroom would have been good as there were 6 of us staying.
Review 82:The cottage was well equipped and tastefully furnished.
