Reviews for Devon View Guest House
Review 1:The room was a bit noisy - there was banging from adjacent properties. The bed wasn't the most comfy. It would have been nice to have nets for the front bay window so I could keep the light and still have some privacy. The local eating place next door but one was closed for a private party so had to walk quite a way for food.
Review 2:This was a nice little place that overlooked the bay. I was upgraded to an en suite room which was nice - there was a sweet on the bed and decent towels and a nice selection of tea coffee hot choc and biscuits in the room. Decent shower stuff including conditioner which was a nice treat:-)
Review 3:The location was perfect - I paid extra for a sea-view and it was well worth it. The description on the website is pretty accurate - this hotel is more at the 'guest house' end of the range - but it suited me fine for what I wanted & envisaged
Review 4:No parking, and little on street parking through the day without restrictions. Only an issue to me as I was nightshift, so was parking during the day. Only a small fault to be honest.
Review 5:Good VFM and location. Friendly and helpful staff. Free wi-fi.
Review 6:Dirty room Reception not manned Hot water pipes behind wall made room very hot even if heating was not on We had to have the window open even though the weather was awful
Review 7:Good veiw from hotel front
Review 8:Its a halfway house, its cheap so you expect it. They dont have parking so you have to pay else where
Review 9:Not much, I guess they had an iron and two toilets
Review 10:En suite was just too small for larger people. Need a shelf near door mirror for makeup or contact lenses
Review 11:Close to Brangwyn hall where we had a dinner to go to. Quite room
Review 12:room was tiny and looked very tired. Shower had blood stains on the gloss paintwork and the cubicle had hairs in it. Shower was so small I had to dry myself in the main room. would not stay again
Review 13:staff were friendly and polite upon arrival
Review 14:room right next door to the shared bathroom - paper thin walls so very noisy with other guests using bathroom in night. had to mend headboard on very squeaky bed before use. reported toilet seat loose but it didn't get fixed. Requested sea view but told rooms booked when arrived - didn't see (only heard) a couple of other people.Could have stayed somewhere better away from the seafront. stairs very steep.
Review 15:Breakfast and clean dining room
Review 16:As having to get up slightly earlier due to parking. Due to very poor weather certainly didn't want to walk over from parking sites
Review 17:I like how the B+B seems to have stayed the same despite change of hands, still, comfy, simple, homely and great value.
Review 18:None
Review 19:The Manger and wife where very friendly . They made my stay in worthwhile. They drove me for free into the city centre and help with booking Taxis, I felt like home away from home .The beautiful beach opposite guest house has created a lasting impression. I will recommend this guest house to friends and family .
Review 20:Great location and very friendly staff. Clean rooms with wi fi and a comfortable bed ! Allowed me to check out a little later too. Highly recommended. Justin.
Review 21:There was a smell of stale smoke in the room, there is nowhere to park (only between 4pm and 8am) the stairs were dirty and I couldn't find a light for the bathroom anywhere - had to use the torch app on my phone.
Review 22:good to have a TV in the room and tea making facilities
Review 23:Loved that there was a TV in the room but it was only visible clearly from one bed. I could turn the TV but the angle of it made the colours of the TV too bright to watch.
Review 24:Very friendly hosts who are informative and polite, quick and easy check in, nice breakfast and loved the little pot of coffee, clean bathroom and rooms with everything you need. Good location with a few restaurants around.
Review 25:Decor in the lounge and up the stairs needs refurbishing and the mattress on our bed was a bit lumpy and needs changing. This will probably be done soon as the couple that own it have only been there 3 months.
Review 26:This property has only recently been taken over by the young couple and they are lovely people. Breakfast was lovely and the sea veiw from the room was wonderful.
Review 27:Lovely ocean view, but viewing area was crowded for two people. Only one hook in the bathroom and the sink too small and inconvenient to wash your face or shave. Out of date bussing information on display. Couldn't combine fruit with part of cooked breakfast. Cost of facilities seemed a little high but the World Cup was on so understandable.
Review 28:Location was excellent. Very easy to catch a bus or walk out to the peninsula and just out the door to walk on the beach. Also easy walk to restaurants, pubs and shopping. Friendly and helpful staff including the offer of a ride to the train station when taxis were hard to come by due to rain.
Review 29:Room was very basic and small. Bed was cozy. A 30 minute walk from the railway station. I was under the impression breakfast was included but it wasnt.
Review 30:Location and price
Review 31:Only slight negative comment is that the decoration in the bedroom was a little tired, but at the end of the season, not an issue.
Review 32:This accommodation was just right for what we needed, which was an overnight stay to visit Swansea University. The staff were courteous and helpful. The room was fit for purpose, two single beds, a wash basin, tea and coffee making facility, a TV and an alarm clock. Beds were very comfortable and were freshly made with clean linen. We were provided with two towels each. The shower room was not en suite, but was in good order. After a good nights sleep, we were provided with an ample and taste full cooked breakfast, hot drinks, fruit juice and hot toast. All served in a clean breakfast room. If my son decides to study in Swansea, I would use this guest house again.
Review 33:A strong smell of curry(?) in the reception.
Review 34:Excellent hotel! One minute walk to the Swansea Beach. The staff there is pretty nice and kindly serve some beverage in the room. Cozy and quiet. Can see the starry sky throughout the window.
Review 35:Wifi was something slowly.
Review 36:窓から海が見える、最高の部屋! それで、約5000円。やすい!!! The location of my room is wonderful! because I could see the sea from my window of it. Also, the renting room fee was only about 25£!very cheap ❤️
Review 37:The extra charge (when i asked for a late check in due to my late arrival from the airport) and the limitations of check in/check out time were not mentioned at the information of the hotel in the website unless the payment was completed.
Review 38:The amazing willing of the staff to contact me personally before my arrival to be sure that everything was in order.
Review 39:some noice from the main road at peak times (but OK, when you close the window)
Review 40:Very nice view on the sea, beach nearby; Room basic, but nicely decorated with tea making facilties and hot & cold water; Ironing board and iron also available; very friendly, helpful staff - allowed me to keep the luggage in the breakfast room after i had checked out (very nice breakfast room indeed); not too far away from the centre;
Review 41:Between you and the sea, there is a four lanes road that serves as the road to drive across swansea, east-west. I asked if my room was on the road, the answer was it looks on the sea. I was concerned about the noise. I was assured it would be quiet. It wasn't. Traffic is much lower at night but keeps going regularly and the cars are passing by a few steps away from your head.
Review 42:the view from the window was amazing: straight on the sea.
Review 43:Excellent location by the sea, friendly staff and although I didn't have the breakfast (having to leave early) I did use the facilities for heating my own food in the evening which was handy. The guesthouse is clean, welcoming and friendly and has good shared bathroom facilities.
Review 44:Parking is difficult. on street in front the car has to be moved by 8 am until 4pm.
Review 45:Great location with fantastic sea view. comfortable room and beds. perfect little stay.
Review 46:Traffic noise is constant as situated on main road. Also cooked breakfast had tinned tomatoes, not fresh and watery ketchup. Tap had to be held underneath sink in order to get water out.
Review 47:Noisy traffic if window open. No private parking.
Review 48:Friendly staff, room opposite bay was really pleasant to sit in and observe what was going on. Food fine.
Review 49:The room was not clean.... It supported some coffee making facilities(boiler, cups etc). I tried to use it and there was water in one of thecups... I got suspicious whether they washed it or not after thecheckout of the previous tenant. There were plastic cups for water aswell but again they were broken. So, no water could stay there... Ingeneral nothing from their equipment could be used... The bathrooms wereshared and one of them didn't have any light at all so it wascompletely unusable, which means that 5-6 rooms had to share a commonbathroom. I am really wondering whether this place does have a licensefrom the British state... Are the hygiene standards so low? Iwouldn't expect an accommodation of such poor quality to be able tooperate in Europe....
Review 50:The location was very good. Just in front of the beach
Review 51:Sea and beach view with single room. Free wi fi , choice of breakfast , communial lounge , friendly staff, close proximity to several bus stops , shops and pubs .
Review 52:We were only given one set of keys when we arrived and unknowingly dropped them getting out of a taxi when we got back after visiting relatives... Effectively we were locked out as no one would answer the door. To cut a long story short we eventually found the keys thanks to the taxi firm. Otherwise we would have been locked out all night! We discovered the next morning that we should have bee given two sets of keys!
Review 53:Comfortable room with beautiful view from the bedroom window.
Review 54:Room (No 5) fairly cramped, but the facilities were fine. The TV on the wall took a bit of a battering, as it was on the route around the end of the bed to the en-suite!
Review 55:Great location across the road from the beach. No parking, but in fact parking overnight at the weekend on single yellow line outside worked fine; Also free parking until 11 am on side street just around the corner.
Review 56:The breakfast was tasty but for some reason I ended up with wind pain - maybe order some better sausages? I think it was them...
Review 57:The room was very clean and comfortable, and very good value for money.
Review 58:Other guests a bit noisy at 4 in the morning ( not their fault). Facilities quite basic but adequate.
Review 59:It was a central place to stay. They were very helpful in accommodating our needs of an earlier check in. It was clean and warm. Food nice
Review 60:Dirty reception, poor welcome and dirty sheets. Overpriced. No sleep due to noisy guests arguing and throwing things around their room. A student let so students talking and banging doors until well after 11pm. Noise from the busy road.
Review 61:The view from our window was lovely.
Review 62:Car parking is a problem, needed to pay £5 per day in public car park. Mattresses could do with an upgrade.
Review 63:The newly married young owners are brilliant. They are also new to the hospitality business and learning as they go. Position of the guest house on the sea front is excellent.
Review 64:Parking was a little difficult, but turned out ok. Narrow, steepstairs to rooms.
Review 65:Our room had a great view of the bay. Our full Welsh breakfast wasvery good.
Review 66:Don't be put off by some of the buildings nearby which are a bit run down, Devon View itself is clean and well maintained.
Review 67:We stayed in the top ensuite room 17 which had a lovely view of the whole beach and bay. Bed was comfy, room was clean and tastefully decorated. Staff were helpful and friendly at all times. Breakfast was cooked perfectly. Just a short walk to Swansea center.
Review 68:double room was tiny and dark with a view of the fire escape which was through our window. Bed filled the room but was small. Payment deducted without signature
Review 69:Breakfast, wifi and location close to the cricket and restaurants/bars
Review 70:The only downside is that you are right by a busy road, although we were not kept awake by it.
Review 71:The view from our room was wonderful, with comfortable chairs so that we could sit and enjoy it. The room was clean and beautifully decorated. We enjoyed our breakfast and the staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 72:I went to Devon View Guest House with my boyfriend and the experience was just horrendous. The room wasn't clean, we found hair on the shower and also on the bed.. apart from that the bed was quite uncomfortable, you could feel all the springs. Also, as soon as any of the people from other rooms was flushing the toilet or having a shower we could easily hear the plumbing, which woke us up so many times. On top of that we asked the owner of the house if we could leave our luggage for a couple of hours as we had to leave at 10 the room and our train was not until 5 and he said NO. Really disappointed. I just booked it as I saw great reviews, but I have to say that the reviews don't match how the hotel is at all!! Please think carefully before booking this hotel in future!
Review 73:Asked the owners wife if I could stay in the lounge & wait for mylift until lunchtime;; couple hours ; then the husband said I could notstay;; leave just an hour later & then switched off the wifi;;forcing me to cancel my lift & get a taxi;; how petty ;; would haveused this place again ;;not now;;
Review 74:A nice welcome when I arrived;;
Review 75:Mattress and bed frame could have been of better quality. Noisy on first night with people in room adjacent walking heavily and talking very loudly bit turns out to be graduation week. Spoke to host who said we should let him know if same next night - it wasn't !!
Review 76:Very friendly hosts who responded to our queries quickly if we needed anything. Always felt like someone was around! very good value for what I paid for last room available at short notice- next time I will book earlier and ask for sea view!
Review 77:Needs up dating which will now happen as new owners took over while we were there.
Review 78:We faced Swansea Bay Excellent cooked breakfast with a sea view, and a road away From the beach.
Review 79:I could not pay by card also I have paid 255 cash now I see it should have been £225 how do I get a refund?
Review 80:staff were very good also the sea view was excellent
Review 81:No offer of help getting bags up to first floor. Over-the -top décor. Noisy room, hot room, had to put up with noise from traffic if wanted window open.
Review 82:For some reason when booking a B&B you are required to state whether you want breakfast. This bypassed me so on arrival we asked to change from no breakfast to getting breakfast the next morning. This was greeted by a sharp "no". Someone else's hair in the bathroom.
Review 83:The view.
Review 84:Absolutely not accommodating re: my folding bicycle - even when Ioffered to put it in the travel bag (which makes it smaller than a lotof standard luggage) refused to allow it indoors or assist with anysomewhat secure alternative. Was quite rude and closed-minded aboutit. First time I have encountered this attitude in the 4 weeksI've been travelling through Scotland, ni, Ireland, and now Wales.Ended up leaving bike locked to a pipe, in the rain, and feet awayfrom a busy road. Also stairs to the rooms were so steep! No assistance offered with luggage, either.
Review 85:Wifi was great, beach was across the road
Review 86:Lack of customer service. Booked on line which did not include breakfast and, although seemingly available, was not offered any. Host didn't have much to say, here's the key room at the top of the stairs. Cost slightly more than I wanted to pay (but probably down to location and the fact that I was given a family room) No towel rail in room.
Review 87:Room well-decorated and bed comfortable. Easy reach of town centre with regular buses to Mumbles Easily booked
Review 88:No parking at the actual hotel, but there are plenty of car parks nearby and are £5 for 24 hours.
Review 89:Lovely bright room, in a good location, right opposite the beach and not far to town.
Review 90:Person who first handed keys to us on the first day wasn't very friendly but subsequent people were nice. Bed was very hard. Would be nice to have extra pillows.
Review 91:Pretty room, very clean, shared toilet was also very clean, location is good near many good restaurants, hairdryer and towels and soap provided. Sink in room which was great.
Review 92:Not their fault but having to move the car by 8am when used on street parking
Review 93:The owners are friendly and chatty, well decorated rooms at good size, good location
Review 94:Loft bedroom- I couldn't stand up fully in half of already small room Toilet down 2 flights of stairs and no wash basin in the actual bathroom (it's in your room) to wash your hands Staff weren't welcoming atall
Review 95:there is no wifi signal inside my room.
Review 96:my single room is super clean, full of facilities such as a huge wash basin with glass / heater and fan / electric kettle / coffee and tea / TV and radio. There is a super comfy bed that I can see the nice beach view from the window. Shared bathroom is really good - clean and convenient. It's located just by the beach and not far from city center, staff is also nice and they clean your room every day. First i thought my room is quite expensive, but with all these features i think it's reasonable. This guesthouse makes my Swansea trip so memorable ^^
Review 97:A bit noisy in the day time because of traffic
Review 98:We had a sea view room on the 3rd floor. Big windows, great sea view. The staffs are very friendly and made us feel at home. The room is very clean and we can feel that it is cared with heart. Very valuable place to stay and will come back again.
Review 99:The attitude of the staff wasn't friendly and I was disappointed that I could not have a late check-in of 22.30(asked for in advance) and that I was charged £5 for luggage hold. The rooms were a little cold too.
Review 100:The facilities here have the potential to be a good stay for good money. The rooms were clean with wifi and TV. Shared bathroom was very clean too.
Review 101:This is NOT a luxury hotel, just an ok place to stay if you are looking for a handy location to visit Swansea and be close to the sea.
Review 102:Just across the street from the beach, full english included in price, reasonable hotel for a quick stay, staff were nice.
Review 103:Proprietors where very welcoming and helpful througout our stay room very clean and bed comfortable excellent location for sea views and the scenic mumbles.
Review 104:Location isn't the best, but good value for money.
Review 105:Nicely kept up with attractive rooms. Staff were really friendly and gave keys for access 24/7.
Review 106:Advertizing the sea view and avoiding to mention that the road between the hotel and the beach is very busy even on a weekend day. If you live in a relatively quiet environment opening the window is not an option. If you are a busy city type,I guess you wouldn`t mind. So to sum up you get the sea view + the traffic noise.
Review 107:It is OK if you don`t really care.
Review 108:1 Poor Wifi. Often disconnected. 2 The woman is very rude. Very bad service. 3 Too far away from city center 4 Bathroom is extremely tiny. Cannot stretch out arms when taking a shower. 5 Too much expensive. The value is far below the price.
Review 109:Near sea.
Review 110:A very friendly guest house with lovely rooms. I appreciate that it is difficult to keep beach-front properties looking spick and span all year round, but this was the only appealing looking guest house for miles! Very happy with our choice.
Review 111:The wi-fi got jammed sometimes, but hey, there WAS a wi-fi, so not a huge problem.
Review 112:The best bed anywhere ever. Friendly staff, big clean bathroom in the hallway, lovely location by the seaside, huge breakfast. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a comfy B&B.
Review 113:The beachside location is great, but it is a bit of a walk from town. However, the bus station is right outside and it's only £1.40 to get into town, about 10 minutes or so. Again, this place is great.
Review 114:Allison was wonderful, very helpful and willing to answer any questions I had, and let me check in early, as well. Wifi was great, facilities were spotless. If you're booked in for the shared bathroom, have no worries - it's incredibly clean. I just don't understand how people could have given negative reviews of this place...?
Review 115:There genuinely wasn't anything I didn't like about this place, except that I didn't have longer there!
Review 116:Everything really! The place was beautifully decorated with every little detail taken into account, with all little home comforts catered too. The staff were so helpful and friendly! The breakfast was cooked to perfection! I honestly couldn't say enough things about this place. The owners did everything the they could do to make the stay amazing. Location is absolutely perfect and the sea view is outstanding! Cannot wait to return.
Review 117:The room is really not sound proof. we were waken up at 3am by a coughing guy next door. then the snore..... hope the owner could place two beds apart, not head to head. But others are fine.
Review 118:we booked a sea view double room. it's absolutely enjoyable stay and really cute and sweet room. we love it!
Review 119:Shower head couldn't position it correctly when having a shower. Front window to the left needs checking really bad draft through night (double room with on suit) happy with everything else :)
Review 120:service couldn't ask for better kettle coffee tea + :) clean & tidy everything you would need in a room is there. would call again.
Review 121:This was my first time in Swansea and I'm so glad I found this B and B. Friendly owners, great breakfast and a comfy bed, what more could you ask for. Will surely come back
Review 122:Room was a bit small and the breakfast lacked flavour.
Review 123:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The room was clean and the hotel was conveniently placed - A 20 min walk along the seafront.
Review 124:The bed mattress was old and the springs dug into my ribs keeping me awake at night. We were mislead by the website as to the cost of the room so ended up paying more than we had budgeted for.
Review 125:This was well placed on the waterfront and an easy walk to town and attractions. Also good pub food next door. Nice view and good breakfast.
Review 126:Nothing at all.
Review 127:The view of sea Location: easy to get city centre and Mumbles. There is a nice pub named 'bay view' and a local restaurant called 'sam's cafe & retaurant'. Staff:extremely kind.
Review 128:Staff was not present when I checked out at 8:15 Am on a Monday and not to friendly on arrival. They have a detailed "rules book," that has a confrontational tone. Not close to the city centre.
Review 129:Room comfortable and cozy. Location is close to the beach, and some restaurants and shops. The wifi worked great, not always a given in the U.K.
Review 130:Next to a main road with traffic all through the night but it didn't bother us as you could hear the sea anyway.
Review 131:Lovely staff, nice breakfast, very cosey room with a great bed and decor. Right next to the beach and a great view of the bay and the mumbles.
Review 132:Bathroom on a different floor. Light over sink in bedroom not working. Water drained very slowly in bedroom sink.
Review 133:It was warm, clean with plenty of hot water.. Sea just across the road.
Review 134:polite, inviting family run business well maintained and clean very well priced local to city centre all you need is provided great service very nice breakfast
Review 135:We were rang at 5:45pm whilst on the train to see what time we would be arriving, we said 6:30pm ish, great! We got a bit lost and whilst 6 months pregnant took a bit longer to walk. We were rang at 6:50 to see where we were (baring in mind online it states check in is 3-9) My partner answers to a very rude man who asked us to 'get a jog on' as he had some where to be at 7pm. The curtain came half off as we pulled them shut!
Review 136:If it wasn't for the lady who had greeted us I think we would have found somewhere else to stay. She was friendly and made us feel comfortable. The room was clean and comfy. Breakfast was nice, friendly welcome again.
Review 137:Room a little small. Chek out time at 10, although we gave the keys back at 10:30 with no problem at all.
Review 138:Clean place, comfortable bed, you can park your car at the back street, friendly staff, acceptable breakfast. My room had no sea views but was quiet. It was a cold day and there were good heating.
