Reviews for Hotel Doolin
Review 1:Upon arriving we were greeted warmly and invited to have welcome drinks. We got two vouchers for free drinks. The front desk concierge walked us up to our room and made sure we were comfortable and knew how everything in the room worked. The food was good at the hotel restaurant and all of the staff was very friendly. We LOVED this hotel!
Review 2:The night staff forgot to put in our order for 2 x full Irish breakfasts at 10 am for room service, thus missing out on it but other staff on that morning did there best to provide an alternative breakfast.
Review 3:The cleanliness,staff and decor
Review 4:They should have transportation. Is a hard place to move by yourself if you are not in your own car.
Review 5:Nice boutique hotel. A good place to stay in order to visit the Cliffs of Moher.
Review 6:Room overlooked a courtyard. No view and a lot of noise from courtyard below. Service was friendly but slow.
Review 7:Lovely location.Food and drink were excellent.Reception staff very welcoming and helpful.
Review 8:Nothing. Love this place
Review 9:Just returned from a fabulous stay at hotel doolin. Staff are the friendliest I've met in hospitality, they can't do enough for you. On arrival you instantly feel welcome into this charming hotel, with it's gorgeous open fire, candles & quirky vintage style decor, it feels just like home! They host live trad sessions set in an old style Irish pub (it really doesn't get more Irish than this place) The food is amazing (try the seafood linguini & the mussels, the largest pot you'll find in the west, just delicious) we loved everything about this hotel, wish we could have stayed longer. Friendly staff. Spotless clean. Huge room. Great breakfast. Small touches like the chef leaving fresh chocolate brownies in our room on arrival. Luxurious bath robes & super comfy bed. Perfect location - Cliffs of Moher less than 10 min drive away. (A breathtaking scenic drive) I would highly recommend this hotel if you're visiting Doolin and the west of Ireland. It's a hidden treasure. If you're looking for a wedding venue with a difference you must check it out, imagine having your wedding in Doolin? Irish trad music & blue skies, they have a fab marquee and courtyard gardens. Quirky signs, old rustic high nelly bike adorned with flowers & vintage decor for the perfect Irish wedding! We can't wait to return!! Maybe someday for our own wedding? :-) FABULOUS place, thank you Hotel Doolin.
Review 10:This was a home from home experience, great family weekend and all staff were wonderful this was a busy weekend there our first time and it was a memorable experience we visited the Doolin Caves during our stay
Review 11:From Donegal we travelled there last weekend to attend a wedding in the hotel
Review 12:Breakfast was excellent. Most hotels have a buffet option but it was great to be able to order off a menu and have your hot food order freshly cooked up and served to you. The complimentry craft beer vouchers provided a check in and the slice of maderia cake on check out were both a touch of class.
Review 13:When I telephoned on the afternoon Monday 5th Oct the receptionist on duty was not too nice. She said the system was down and when I asked if she could confirm reservation for Thurs the 8th Oct, she said she would ring me back. I waited a while and when she didn't , I rang her she was offhand like I was a pest. She said "the system was down and that she would ring me later. " She rang me back and she left a message on voice mail "she had checked and I didn't have a reservation for 8th Oct ."
Review 14:I have stayed there before and find an enjoyable experience The welcome from staff and cleanliness and comfort in room.
Review 15:Rooms were modern and clean. They have a little cafe onsite, and a fantastic pub. Best live music that we heard the whole trip! Minutes from ferry to Aran Islands and The Cliffs.
Review 16:When we arrived the receptionist was very disinterested and hardly got a welcome, was handed the key with very little other information. When I returned to reception for information, was dealt with in the same dismissive way.
Review 17:Location
Review 18:Wedding was taking place so the following morning it looked like no one had started to clear up after the party quite a mess.
Review 19:Big room, great bathroom. Friendly and helpful front desk. Breakfast was good! Ample free parking.
Review 20:Convenient for ferry to Aran Islands, public transport and local entertainment. Staff very friendly and helpful. Chervil restaurant 'scallop special' was superb.
Review 21:We loved the fact that it was attached to a Travel Information Center and also had an excellent pub. The food was farm to table and wonderful. The staff were so very helpful. We could take the public bus to The Cliffs.
Review 22:Some of staff at front desk were luke warm; it's a small town but has a lot to do if they would spend a few minutes to engage you a bit more.
Review 23:Restaurant food and staff were excellent !
Review 24:The unfriendly lady in the Tourist Office, she's in the wrong job! Every time we asked her for information she always gave the impression she had something more important to do. The Chervil restautant, while lovely for breakfast had no athmosphere in the evenings so we always went to Fitzy's instead. A further small gripe with me is that herbal teas were always served in a "latte" glass cup rather than a teapot, when I asked for a teapot it was provided , no problem, but if I forgot it came in a cup
Review 25:The food in Fitzy's is good, the steak particularly. The "Trawler" looks good but is underwhelming. I particularly liked the way the staff took our name and always found us in the bar when a table came available. The hotel itself is clean modern and fresh and the staff are friendly and helpful, from reception through to serving staff in the restaurants. The lobby area is warm and welcoming and the rooms a good size with plenty of space for clothes and suitcases. A good hotel choice, I liked the layout with the Tourist Office, the restaurant, shops and Fitzys appearing separate but being part of the whole.
Review 26:While food was excellent in the bar, we thought our chicken dishes in the restaurant were overpriced .
Review 27:Hotel Doolin is perfectly located , central to everything in this magical village of Doolin. The staff are efficient and mostly very friendly ; our room was spotless, the bed extremely comfortable ; breakfast was freshly cooked and fabulous. There is a lovely cafe on site as well as an excellent tourist information centre. Clare, whom we met in the latter , should get a national award for her courtesy, efficiency, good humour and overall contribution to tourism in Doolin.
Review 28:The breakfast was very very good. There was a full buffet as well as made-to-order food. There was a bar, nice restaurant, a sandwich shop, information station and another store all connected to the hotel! There was also free water, tea, lemonade and truffles available upon arrrival.
Review 29:We loved the Decor and the "green" vibe of the hotel. Also the location was great. The bar and restaurant were awesome. The staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Review 30:It was a nice hotel but overpriced for the facilities available. The room was nice but a little plain, and some of the furniture worn. The food and drink very overpriced in the bar.
Review 31:Rather expensive considering the facilities available compared to other 4 star hotels. The Wifi was hit and miss depending on where you were in the hotel. Beds were too soft for us. Outside temperatures 15°C/below and no possibility to turn on heating as was summer.
Review 32:Good area to be based for exploring Co. Clare. Staff very friendly. Breakfast good.
Review 33:Nothing
Review 34:Went here with my sister to visit Aran Islands, the staff were lovely, everything very clean Had breakfast in bedroom, which was Fab!! Only stayed one night, but would have been happy to stay longer. The local pub was also fantastic, close to ferry to the islands. Will stay again next time. Got lovely homemade bed when we were leaving!!! thanks to all the staff.
Review 35:before I booked the hotel I rang to ask about the breakfast options for a coeliac and was advised there was a wide selection. I booked the hotel and emailed advising that my husband was a coeliac and I followed this up with a phone call just to make sure staff were aware there would be a need for gluten free options for breakfast. that morning when we went for breakfast we asked what the options were and the waitress advised there was only eggs rashers and toast available which was extremely disappointing and too top it off the gluten free bread came in the same basket as regular bread which means there is cross contamination and he cannot eat the gluten free bread. So to have paid €160 for a b&b was not worth and will not be advising anyone to stay in the hotel.
Review 36:The room and garden
Review 37:Wifi was terrible. Worst wifi on our entire trip to Ireland. They said that it was shared with their bar and thus the bandwidth was poor.
Review 38:Excellent location.
Review 39:I liked everything about hotel doolin, a great location , wonderful friendly and helpful staff and very clean Restaurant was closed during our visit for evening meals but a wonderful choice nearby. Breakfast was lovely.
Review 40:Spent one night. Excellent customer service. Offered a drink on arrival, shown to our room by reception and everything explained. Free drink voucher for trad bar next door. There was a Harley festival on during our stay. Lots of bikers but pleasant enough. There was a nighttime event on downstairs but very tame. Unable to hear from room. Overall very pleasant stay
Review 41:Reading poeple's reviews, wingeing about their WiFi. Get a grip !!!
Review 42:Great staff, great breakfast, ( especially the Dooliner Bread ), and atruly unbelievable location.
Review 43:Very modern, clean and comfortable hotel in the heart of Doolin. Great facilities, including onsite bar and tourist centre - ask for Clare - she's fantastic! Breakfast was great and staff super friendly.
Review 44:Uncomfortable beds...very poor quality bedding. Internet was only working in the lobby. Shower curtain that flips and flops against you when showering.
Review 45:This hotel has a very good location and excellent Pub with live music the night we were there. Incredibly excellent Doolin Beer! Very friendly and good food...the rooms could definitely use a makeover and the shower is not very user friendly. A lot of worn out furniture in the room...Internet was only working from the lobby.
Review 46:Hotel seemed very quiet, but perhaps this was the time of year. A Monday in March is not busy season. Wifi was appalling- connected for 10 seconds or not at all- was the same regardless of where you were located in the hotel.
Review 47:Very nice food in hotel bar and good atmosphere with music in pub, but not too loud. Friendly staff. Loaf of homemade brown bread on check out was a very nice touch, and very tasty too! Rooms were comfortable and spacious, with a double and a single bed, and still lots of spare room. Nice cold breakfast buffet with hot options fresh from the kitchen!
Review 48:Clinical, custom built, lacking personality. Totally aimed at the captive tourist bus industry. It was obvious they cared little for repeat business
Review 49:Not a lot
Review 50:Lot of doors to the bar so if thirsty be warmed - actually nothing all very very good
Review 51:On arrival mulled cider, vouchers for free beer tasting, excellant receptionist just a superb hotel, would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 52:Wifi wasn't super strong and at night when everyone was there it would drop us - likely would happen all the time during high season when it's crowded. But honestly not a deal breaker - hotel is worth it
Review 53:I LOVED Fitz's Bar. FAB food!!!! The Dooliner beer was excellent! The music was starting and it was a great feel. Martin was on his game at the bar and servicing the tables!
Review 54:Just didnt like the shower type hose on wall and you have to stand in a bath with shower curtain !Thought a bit dated for a modern hotel!
Review 55:Location ,Excellent music in bar,Nice bar ! Friendly welcome etc!
Review 56:I would like to thank Staff at Doolin. My boyfriend proposed to me on Dec 21st 2014. The staff were so helpful to my boyfriend in helping him pull off biggest surprise! Thank you so much Stephanie & Alan x
Review 57:Was very disappointed as advertised as a four star hotel found the rooms very basic , beds very uncomfortable . And also as I was going away for the night for my 40 th birthday I didn't expect a baby crying in the next room all night and weakening us up at half 6 . Overall experience extremely disappointed but staff were nice .
Review 58:Very small, old tv in the room. No staff at reception in the evening and when we called the indicated number to speak to staff, no one answered for at least 3 attempts.
Review 59:Good sized room, really great breakfast included with our booking. Fitz's Bar had fantastic vegetable soup and a cosy atmosphere! Good location to explore the Cliffs of Moher.
Review 60:As far as I understood, there are no rooms with king beds. The bathroom facilities, as practically everywhere in Ireland, has one fault - it is difficult to get the needed temperature of the water.
Review 61:it seems to be the only real hotel in the area. all the rest were B&Bs.
Review 62:My family loved our stay at Hotel Doolin. When we walked in, the atmosphere of the room was very cozy and felt like home. The staff was very helpful in assisting us with our plans. The beds were really comfortable. The room was a good size for the 4 of us. The dinner at the bar was great. Breakfast was really yummy as well! I would definitely book another stay here!
Review 63:traditional music was one musician who sang a stale lineup of songs in a monotone manner.....we drove two days to get to Doolin the heart? of traditional music...disappointing
Review 64:Very nice hotel with gracious staff and very nice rooms
Review 65:TV to small. Public Computer not working.
Review 66:I liked that they let me check in early for my reservation and that there was a pub right there waiting for me, attached to the hotel, with a hot lunch buffet
Review 67:Price is high, but it worth it if u're not out of money.
Review 68:Rooms just great Staff is very helpful Nice welcome cakes and drinks Great pub at the hotel building with live music C'mon - it's 4 star hotel at their best!
Review 69:Rooms and were cold and heating wasn't good at all (106). Shower curtain in the bath was awful & dated. Loud pop music in the lobby was annoying & we wanted to spend more time there by the fire. Lobby was also cold!
Review 70:Staff, atmosphere, food, location all terrific. We'll definitely come back again and will recommend it to others.
Review 71:The staff at reception (Aoife and Greta) were lovely but night porter (black curly hair and glasses) was very rude and certainly had no skills for front of house. He had a smart answer for everything and said my friend was "dragged up". Not a nice chap at all.
Review 72:Breakfast in bed and late check out.
Review 73:Spa robes and homemade cupcakes in room. Great attached pub, Fitzgeralds, between great music pubs, McGanns in one direction and Gus Oconnors in the other, very close to cliffs of Mohr. Great bathtub, water pressure. Very good breakfast. Complimentary loaf of brown bread on checkout. They have a great baker!
Review 74:Low lighting in lobby and 1st floor hallways to the restaurant and bar. They have floor flights, no overhead lights, gave me a creepy feeling walking through at night. Green overhead lighting in the room bathroom. I couldn't see well with that and had the most difficult time with make up application and contact lenses.
Review 75:Nice room, good size, wifi in the rooms. Good and lively bar, helpful woman at visitors desk. Front desk employees are top notch!
Review 76:One of the features which attracted us to the Hotel was the well reviewed pub food and the nightly Irish Music, what transpired was a packed pub with no space and a dining area so busy that we were looking at a potential 60min wait (we had to drive 1/2 mile to another pub) - all this is not a criticism of the pub but it would have been greatly appreciated if the hotel reception had provided us with some early warning on what to expect - a few words of advice when we checked in would have made a great difference to our experience
Review 77:Easy to find and in a good location, perfect spot for visiting the Cliffs of Moher.
Review 78:Our room was near elevators and we heard lots of noise from other guests using the elevators.
Review 79:A+ location, comfortable rooms, nice facilities, very helpful staff.
Review 80:The staff were very pleasant & courteous. The room was spacious & comfortable. The breakfast was really good with a great selection. The pub had a great atmosphere, music & food.
Review 81:We were advised not to use the water in the bathroom (for brushing teeth etc) as it was not drinkable. We were given bottles of water instead.
Review 82:Great breakfast options. Nice quiet hotel with comfortable rooms.
Review 83:As per the booking. com details we had booked the higher end family room supposedly with a double bed and two twin beds. But the room given to us had one double n one twin bed.The lady at reception then informed us that this is what all the rooms had and there was no difference whatsoever.Anyways later on they gave a travel cot for the baby which left little room for moving around. The breakfast was a very average spread and behavior of the serving ladies was not very welcoming and quite curt.
Review 84:It was a small lovely boutique hotel , newly built with a good location . As it is Doolin is such a small town that any location would be a good one with your own car,Inguess. The lady at reception on our day 1 was quite good and our noisy room at the ground floor was shifted to the upper floor .
Review 85:Basic stuff like yougurt missing for breakfast Staff in the restaurant should have more attention to its customers. To hasty can slow things down and work the wrong way
Review 86:Great location combined with the excellent fritzgerald pub. Great reception team and very friendly clearing & Maintenance staff
Review 87:Solemnly staring at my feet whilst a women warbled her way through "she moved through the fair".. but that's not the hotels'fault..
Review 88:The cut of its' jib was a pleasing, comfortable and well designed jib..From the second we walked in, top to toe in biker gear, the staff were lovely, friendly and accommodating. The walked us to our room. ( you don'get that in Letterkenny as the wise man said ( see my other review) The room was great, really comfortable and it came with a small shaggy sheep - toy - that wished us well and, appropriately enough, asked us not to steal it. The restaurant / Bar attached to the hotel .. possibly called Fitzers was MAGNIFICENT ( you know I mean that because I just shouted it). We had a ' steak / seafood for two' main course that made me weep tears of joy which was uncomfortable for, well everyone in the restaurant, but it was that good. No regrets. The bar was great until the solo singing started.. you know the singing where everyone has to stare solemnly at their shoes.. well that kind of singing.. it sucks but tends to be a requirement in Irish trad sessions, mores the pity. Stay here if you get the chance.
Review 89:When I pulled the sheets back to get into bed, the bed looked like it had been remade, the sheets were creased. It may have been made very badly... but either way it was unpleasant.
Review 90:It was next to the local pub, and we were given a voucher for a red beer... it was very nice and I wouldn't have tried it normally. Rooms were a good size and attractive.
Review 91:There are no dislikes for Hotel Doolin.
Review 92:The village of Doolin is known as the capital of traditonal Irish music throughout Ireland. I wife and I vist Doolin 2-3 times a year (we fell in love with the area). This hotal is centrally located among historic pubs in the village with outstanding traditional Irish music at each pub. The hotel is a couple kilometers from the Atlantic ocean with opportunities for day trips to the Arian Islands by ferry. Doolin Hotel has an excellent location, and over the past four years of visits I have found the hotel staff is always eager to accomodate guests' needs. The Fritzpatrick restraurant is located under the same roof (as is a tourist information office). The adjoining Fritzpatrick's restaurant has great brown bread, seafood chowder, and Guinness stew - wonderful and filling. Every pub in the area is within a 10 minute walk for enjoying a evening of great Irish music. The rooms are modern - when you enter the room you feel yourself relaxing. The Burren as wekk as other villages and sites of interest in country Clare are just a short distance away. This is one of my favorite places to stay while in Doolin. Many travelers enjoy the wifi in the hotel lobby while guests have wifi in their rooms. If you are looking for hotel accomodations Hotel Doolin would be my choice for Doolin. The hotel is a 60-90 minute drive from Shannon airport and 10 minutes from the Cliffs of Mohr.
Review 93:Fan not working in bathroom. Beds were not made up fully, nearly left as we left them each day. Lack of hand towels. A little expensive.
Review 94:Room and beds were comfortable, good variety for breakfast, but a bit exotic. We did enjoy our stay.
Review 95:The Dj on New Years Eve was so Bad
Review 96:Excellent Service
Review 97:Great location for exploring west Ireland. Quite quiet in November.
Review 98:Atmosphere excellent. we went on a tuesday and they had entertainment in the bar, Jimmy Mac - class
Review 99:Accomdations, Staff, Food, Service --- Everything was just awesome!!!!

Review 103:Friendly staff, very helpful. Relaxed atmosphere. Room lovely and warm, lots of light.
Review 104:Very comfortable--wish we could have stayed longer!
Review 105:staff were friendly and hotel was lovely
Review 106:Everything!! Staff was very nice..
Review 107:Lovely building giving a feeling of pea end quietness bearing in mind that it was off season so very little entertainment in the bars
Review 108:excellent parking, nice staff, clean modern room, good bar and restaurant, breakfast.
Review 109:nothing
Review 110:friendly staff and excellent breakfast
Review 111:The Restaurant Chervil has excelent Food!!
Review 112:Lovely hotel, great food especially fish dishes.
Review 113:Breakfast was cold. Room smelled a little damp
Review 114:Friendly staff, lively pub
Review 115:way overpriced! long walk to music venues. considering the hype breakfast was so-so.
Review 116:comfortable bed
Review 117:surely barman in fitz did not know how to make a pimms Bath sheets rather than small towels would have been an asset.
Review 118:Front desk folks not particularly friendly or welcoming.
Review 119:Comfortable and nicely appointed room. Great music and food next door in the pub.
Review 120:Everything under one roof and conveniently close to Aran islands and order adventures.
