Reviews for Masons Arms

Review 1:The mattress was not to my liking. The wardrobe is difficult to access: not easy to solve with the room layout.

Review 2:Wonderful staff & food. Large portions...beautifully cooked & presented. The best welcome I've had for a long time!

Review 3:The pillows - these definitely need replacing - they need to be in keeping with the general comfort of the room especially at the prices charged which are comparable to Premier Inn

Review 4:Proximity to the popular Indian restaurant we had booked into! (Bollywood Cottage!) and the varied wine list

Review 5:The bed was a little uncomfortable for me, but that is a very personal view - my husband was okay with it!!

Review 6:The staff were friendly and it had a nice atmosphere. The room was nice and the breakfast was good.

Review 7:Disabled room a bit basic - lacked storage space. Only one bedside table. Radiator didn't work.

Review 8:Lovely setting in small village near Skipton. Pub had great atmosphere. Best quality breakfast in many years. Friendly staff.

Review 9:Great atmosphere in the bar for the rugby on the evening of 03/10 ... but we didn't enjoy seeing us thrashed by the Aussies!!!!!!

Review 10:The welcome we received, the quality of the food and the accommodation, were all first class

Review 11:Can't fault the Masons Arms,Room was very comfy, warm, plenty of wardrobe space, food was excellent, great value and superbly cooked and presented, highly recommended.

Review 12:Nice location, access to rooms at the back so didn't have to walk through the pub.Friendly staff, nice comfortable bed and room.Excellent breakfast.

Review 13:The paintwork and outside areas were all a bit grubby. We would have missed a nice stay if we had judged the pub from the exterior.

Review 14:The room was clean and comfortable. The food was very good, basic pub food and good value for money. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 15:Mattress not as comfy as we would like

Review 16:Good location, good menu choice in restaurant and breakfast also. Friendly helpful staff and well supported by locals

Review 17:Myself and 3 friends stayed for the night as we were taking part in a charity event. All the staff were very friendly. We had to check out at 5am in the morning and the owner was totally fine with us doing this. I would highly recommend The Mason's Arms and my parents are also looking to book for next year. If I am ever up in the area again and need somewhere to stay I would definitely stay here.

Review 18:Bed was too small. Shower was for the disabled which was not easy for a six foot tall person to use. Similarly the sink was too low was general visitors.

Review 19:Breakfasts were very nice and availability to book a table for evening meals was easy.

Review 20:Booked twin room on website, made error on the fact that two people not one would be staying, website would not allow correction. Consequently room price paid was £27.50 higher. Having paid £20 in total less the night before to stay at the Mecure Blackburn Dunkenhalgh this was not the greatest deal.

Review 21:Good basic room for one night stay. Good breakfast.

Review 22:no complaints

Review 23:Lovely reception from the landlord John. Hot powerful showers. Room very clean and comfortable. Value for money pleasant meal in the evening. We would return if in the area again

Review 24:There was nothing I did not like.

Review 25:The staff at the Mason's Arms were friendly and efficient. They were helpful and very approachable. The food was excellent and good value for money and the pub is situated in a lovely village; handy as a touring base.

Review 26:We had rooms 2/3 which had the emergency lighting on continuesly which gave a green or an orange glow! Annoying! As a retired Fire Prevention Officer, no need!

Review 27:Food, good choice menus, good selection of ales! friendly helpful staff, secure lock up for cycles.

Review 28:Bedroom windows didn't open & it got quite stuffy and over-warm at night. This was a room with disability access and, to make room for a wheelchair, there was very little furniture so nowhere to store your underwear, sweaters, etc. There was a night-table only one side of the bed - where is the second person supposed to put specs, book, etc? The carpet runner just inside the door is a trip hazard.

Review 29:Friendly welcome; great choice of breakfast dishes cooked to order; peace and quiet; superb food in the evenings; well-kept real ales on the bar; extremely good value-for-money; situated in a peaceful village street but within easy reach of the A65 and all of North and West Yorkshire.

Review 30:The licensee was helpful and interested in our experience of his hostelry. Staff good too. The food & menu were excellent-home made rather than 'chain fayre'. The atmosphere was buzzing in the evening with locals and visitors (Fri, Sat, Sun)

Review 31:Really friendly staff, I didn't have the breakfast but my family enjoyed it and will be returning to stay for another visit. We visited for a wedding.

Review 32:Gargrave was a pretty village nestling in green hills with a river and canal. We had great weather and there were some lovely walks. It is a real village pub (with bowling green behind) with a good atmosphere of locals and visitors. The breakfasts were fabulous and there were also good pub dinners (lamb and gammon dishes particularly good). Ideal location in south dales near Skipton, Malham etc.

Review 33:The stairs and entrance to the bedrooms needed a good sweep to clear sand off steps which would have made us feel more welcome

Review 34:Very friendly staff and lovely atmosphere in pub

Review 35:From the second we arrived we were made to feel incredibly welcome - especially our dog Sam. The accommodation was spotless and in a brilliant location for a walking holiday. The food was great and in plentiful supply. Our hosts were fantastic throughout.

Review 36:The Beds all three that we were able to try were uncomfortable and noisy, the pillows difficult, also the service once it was established that we had alternative plans for Dinner and breakfast mellowed. Altogether disappointing and definately not worth £35ppn.

Review 37:The in room facilities were good although a limited supply of milk and tea bags meant that the guest cannot be over indulgent in this department. The T.V and shower room were good, with a good sized bath.

Review 38:No complaints from the four of us , carnt comment on the wifi as we didnt use it we didnt go away to be concerned with that :) superb pub indeed far better than some we have stayed in in the dales :)

Review 39:Superb evening meal , good value , great breakfast:) great place to chill , good room location , private indeed , clean room well furnished , helpful friendly owners and superb staff

Review 40:It would be good to extend the WiFi to the rooms, not just the bar area

Review 41:Room was nice and well appointed. Rooms have separate enterances to the pub which we thought was a very good idea. Good food and beer and all in all a very welcoming and comfortable stay.

Review 42:We felt the website was misleading as to whether breakfast was includedand that caused some angst. (This appears to have now been improved).

Review 43:It is a nice pub in Gargrave and the rooms are in an outhouse which isnice and quiet. The cooked breakfast was fine

Review 44:There is nothing we did not like!

Review 45:The staff were so friendly and helpful. The accommodation was warm, spacious, clean and welcoming. The beer was excellent; the cooked breakfasts were a real treat. The location of the pub was brilliant both for the wedding we attended and for some lovely walks along the canal and the Pennine Way. If you like staying at a good pub, this is the place to go!

Review 46:We wanted a relaxing break away with our dog and the Masons ticked all the boxes . Lovely room , attractive location with ample parking and excellent nearby dog walks , Popular dog friendly pub serving good quality reasonably priced food . extremely welcoming and friendly staff . We will certainly be returning .

Review 47:Central position for visiting the dales. Friendly staff. Delicious breakfast cooked to order. Comfortable room with all the facilities you get in a hotel. We were very impressed and would book again if we are going to that area.

Review 48:The pub gets very busy- not so much a criticism as it indicates how popular it is but it may be a problem for some.

Review 49:Good location away from the noisy main road through the village. Welcoming staff, standard of room, good food at reasonable prices. I picked this place as it was close to Skipton however there is plenty to do on the doorstep. Railway Station and the Leeds-Liverpool Canal are close if you want to be car free. The rooms being separated from the pub are not subject to noise. Local road immediately outside my room did not seem to have much traffic on it when I was there and did not disturb me.

Review 50:Really good atmosphere from staff and locals good menu and food was cooked just right landlord was very helpful in located in a really lovely part of the country hope to visit again soon

Review 51:noise from room above, faulty tea shelf felt like thigs were going to fall off. stained bed covers. booking.com had not included breakfast in the price, misleading, thought i had bought bed and breakfast not just bed.

Review 52:ease of location, separate room entry from car park.Nice view from my room. It was ok but i found nothing special to help it stand out.

Review 53:main road noise - fast local traffic right under window. pub outside seating too close to car park + cars parked right up to door of room One confusion re rates and breakfast: when we said we booked with booking.com we were told at bar by landlady that it was room only for £70. Given that the breakfast was amazing, the price of £5 per person as quoted at bar was fine. What was NOT so great was that we were charged B&B on final bill at £80 per night and my wife had already decided she would forego full breakfast on final day, so had not ordered it. (had tea and cereal instead). I said nothing at checkout time - I might have done if we had missed more breakfasts and then been charged anyway. Only point I am making here is please be consistent.

Review 54:breakfast was fabulous, bed comfy, room clean. shower lovely - evening dinner well-served pub grub, as expected Beer nicely kept and bar clean and tidy owners really friendly and helpful. Nice that dogs are accepted - dog had a good time too Overall - loved our stay and will be back next spring

Review 55:Long wait for food on Monday evening - apparently it's the only place serving meals in the area on Mondays. Didn't have quite such a long wait on Tuesday evening. Some fixtures and fittings in the room could do with a bit of tlc.

Review 56:Good location for our walks. Good beer and excellent food. Helpful staff.

Review 57:Lovely chatty staff who went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Places with the warm and personal touch like this are hard to find. Excellent Northern hospitality! Thanks very much! PS great breakfast!

Review 58:We had an excellent three nights at the Masons Arms. Very comfortable room, with great facilities. The shower gel and shampoo were topped up when we asked. Breakfasts and evening meals there were very good. All the staff were very pleasant and the landlord and his wife were great. It's in a lovely little village and close to plenty of other things to see.

Review 59:They looked after us so well, the dog was made very welcome too!
