Reviews for The Unicorn Skipton
Review 1:This hotel is located in the heart of Skipton allowing easy walking access to the Castle, main shopping street, markets and eating places. The breakfasts were superb, although we didn't try the black pudding. The hosts allowed us to leave our cases there on the day of departure and even gave us a cup of tea when we picked them up. They went out of their way to help us find out some information we requested.
Review 2:Very comfortable, clean room with comfortable bed. Spotless bathroom. Television, well stocked tea and coffee tray and bathroom toiletries. Very friendly and efficient staff. Very good cooked breakfast. The Hotel is in a central position in the town. We stayed on a Saturday night and did hear a couple of people outside in the street presumably returning home after a night out in the town. However, this did not spoil our night's sleep and we would definitely stay again.
Review 3:The noise from the nightclub can be a bit disturbing.
Review 4:The owner and his family were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely breakfast and children ate free. The fact our little dog could come on our break was a bonus.
Review 5:Room 9 was very small and if you are of large person you would struggle to turn round . Also no place to hang clothes
Review 6:it was very well furnished and the breakfast was very good . Difficult to know if it was a B and B or a hotel somewhere between the 2
Review 7:No lift, very hard negotiating stairs with cases, but did have a little help. Breakfast a little expensive.
Review 8:Comfy bed, but room too hot. Plenty of tea, coffee and bottled water in room.
Review 9:There was absolutely nothing we could complain about, even if we tried really hard! The 'rooms' were actually luxury suites by most hotel standards....
Review 10:The owner Richard went way above and beyond the call of duty (by taking care of last minute printing - without charge) and every other detail to make our trip as comfortable and productive as possible....
Review 11:Nothing to report
Review 12:The unicorn hotel is very sumptuous, warm and comfortable, the cleanliness was welcome due to a bad experience at another hotel, also the food excellent and the gent who seen to us through out our stay couldn't do enough for us and pleasant. Our family will be going back, the rooms are gorgeous x
Review 13:I was moved from a single room to a double en suite at no extra cost because it was available, hich was very kind of the owners. the room has sylish, comfortable furniture and a large flat screen tv. the breakfast- great, plenty of it, well made. the location- very central, stayed in the week- no noise from the town. walked 5 mins or so to get something to eat in the evening. There is a news agents across the street also.
Review 14:Wish they had more scattered over the country so I could stop in the m more often
Review 15:Lovely hotel and the staff were so welcoming and chatty, especially for a young solo women working away, they made me feel safe and secure.
Review 16:Shower a bit week and difficult to get a constant temperature Wi go not working in our room
Review 17:Lovely big room with comfortable sofa very comfortable beds Friendly proprietor willing to chat we didn't feel like strangers
Review 18:Dining room a bit small but everything else made up for that.
Review 19:The room we had was lovely with a king size bed and a comfy sofa and well decorated, also a good size bathroom.Breakfast was delicious.would definitely stay again.
Review 20:Only downfall was no car park but one opposite hotel was only £2 to park overnight
Review 21:A superb stay bedroom very clean and breakfast was brilliant with plenty of choice
Review 22:Room a bit small but was very clean Pricey breakfast option
Review 23:Central Location T.V services Requested option of a chair in room added at first request, thank you !!
Review 24:i know the room was a "small single", but it was rather cramped, and shower flow rather weak, otherwise all OK.
Review 25:Good location & clean, nice breakfast though more choice of cereals would have been good
Review 26:Smell of paint from recent modernisation. Could have been more facilities to store luggage in hotel for guests in transit to other accommodation.
Review 27:Friendly staff and great location. Very comfortable room.
Review 28:We stayed for one night on a Saturday and Only down side it is next to a night club and we were woke up at 4am with the youngsters leaving. But went quiet after an hour. Our room was at the front of the hotel.
Review 29:Great location, lovely clean room and very modern. Great to have a iron and ironing board in the room, also ample tea and coffee. Staff were very pleasant, we have stayed in Skipton on numerous occasions but first time at the unicorn. Would definetly stay here again but would take some ear plugs.
Review 30:The single bedroom was more like a store cupboard literally no room to hang clothes put your bag down etc. Real shame because our other room was lovely
Review 31:Ideal location in the middle of Skipton. We have stayed in Skipton many times and this was the best so far. Room was immaculate, spotlessly clean and well maintained with better than average facilities. (Room 3). Didn't have much contact with the staff apart from checking in and out, as we didn't have breakfast and we were out most of the time. Would definitely stay again.
Review 32:I pre-paid for breakfast, but when I arrived I was told breakfast would not be available. They said they'd refund the cost to my card, but have yet to do so despite my emailing to remind them (no response...)
Review 33:You have to remember to pay parking if you plan to stay after 09:00 hrs.
Review 34:Idea location and easy walking to the town centre. If you arrive by bus, the bus station is right oposite the hotel. Parking is available across the road that is free overnight up to 09:00 hrs.
Review 35:Unimpressive side entrance and a long flight of stairs to reach reception, as there is nothing on the ground floor and no lift. Definitely not suited to those with mobility problems or difficulty with luggage. Although staff were helpful bringing it up, there was no-one free to carry it down next morning (breakfast, check-out etc). Duvet and pillows rather 'crackly' - were told this was because they were feather, which owners preferred, but we found them quite noisy! Also, beware if you are allergic to feathers - fortunately we are not.
Review 36:Well located in centre of town, up a lot of stairs but conveniently opposite overnight car park. Hotel is trying hard, spacious room with splendidly renovated en suite, excellent breakfast, but really more of a B&B than hotel. Was formerly a pub, as implied by the name.
Review 37:We arrived early and couldn't get in to drop our bags - door was locked and ringing the bell didn't work. Staff seem to be limited so reception staff also clean the rooms. They were doing that and didn't hear the doorbell. We abandoned the bags under the stairs and hoped for the best, and that worked ok.
Review 38:Great location in the centre of town, lovely friendly staff, small hotel with not too many people coming and going. Stayed in Room 1 beside the reception desk - it overlooks the back yard so not much street noise. (the chef from the Indian next door does come out there now and again to shout into his phone though). Breakfast was basic but tasty and they will cook whatever you want. I would definitely stay here again
Review 39:Superior Double room, large room with a corner sofa in it! Recently re-furbished, crisp white spotless modern bathroom. Very clean hotel, helpful staff :)
Review 40:Overcooked Bacon. Would like to have a choice of muselie and fruit at breakfast .
Review 41:GoodLocation for town facilities and the dales Clean fresh rooms Nice Decor Overnight parking across Street £2.00 per night
Review 42:Nothing, except reception and rooms are up stairs which might be awkward for people with limited physical mobility
Review 43:Recently refurbished, stylish and comfortable rooms. Friendly and welcoming reception staff. Good position in the town centre close to all the facilities including some excellent old real ale pubs and restaurants, and pretty canal walks and trips. Cheap and convenient overnight parking opposite
Review 44:WiFi dropped out constantly so unable to use it
Review 45:Very modern, clean excellent customer service. Staff very friendly. Our second visit and a third one booked ..wouldn't go anywhere else.
Review 46:The shower was a bit rubbish (very poor water pressure) and there was no blanket in the room, it was chilly in the room overnight so more than a thin duvet would have been appreciated. Parking is difficult near the hotel as the car park opposite only allows a 2hour stay if you arrive before 6pm!!
Review 47:Spacious modern room & free WIFI . The bed was huge & very comfortable.
Review 48:The noise of the traffic. I'm sure this could be solved with better double glazing.
Review 49:Location, nice room, good price, handy parking facilities at reasonable price.
Review 50:No lift and no porter. We had 2 bags 26" sized and struggled up 1.5 levels to reception. A senior' s complaint.
Review 51:Recently renovated with taste and attention to comfort T1 office close with great information and service.
Review 52:Parking..Breakfast should be included in the room rate of £75. Loads of noise from outside below our windows. .room 1. Lads arguing. .couple arguing at 4.30am.
Review 53:Location. Check in quick and easy. Nicely decorated room. Loads of tea bags and sugar!
Review 54:Curry house behind, so room smelt of curry, night club next door so some beats could be heard later - that all said, I would stay there again
Review 55:Car park opposite
Review 56:Couldn't park car outside of hotel and had to park in nearby carpark til a space became vacant. Only 4 spaces!. A lot of stairs to climb to room. As I have arthritis in my feet it was a big problem
Review 57:Room was clean and comfortable
Review 58:The welcome from the manager. The location of the hotel. The wide assortment of in room drinks. Recently refurbished/upgraded with quality furnishings .
Review 59:Breakfast was a bit expensive at £7.50 compared with the Weatherspoons around the corner who do an English breakfast for £2.59
Review 60:Great location. Spacious clean room, good facilities. We would go back there, no question.
Review 61:A bit of noise when nightclub along the road turned out, but it was Friday night.
Review 62:The best mattress I have ever slept on! Well situated, overnight parking available in bus station car park across the road for £2 between 4 p.m. and 10 a.m.Loved Skipton, lovely town. Fantastic pork pies from Stanforth's, and great Saturday morning market.
Review 63:Messed up our booking -we booked a twin and double and they gave us two doubles. Then promised to convert one double to a twin but didn't do it. Very noisy outside - need double glazing.
Review 64:Rooms clean and comfortable
Review 65:I stayed in room 9. If you like small then this is the room for you. The bathroom is tiny and the sink,if you position yourself at the correct angle then you can just about brush your teeth! The hotel is next to a nightclub and there is no free parking. The car park opposite is council owned and I paid my £2 overnight fee and returned to my car next day to find a parking ticket (£50 fine). Apparently it only applies after 4pm!
Review 66:The room was very clean. The bed was comfortable.
Review 67:Room was not made up. The cups were washed and the bin emptied but no more. Bedding was torn albeit clean. Some dirty cutlery at breakfast and soup spoons were laid ! The shower in room 7 was poor and the bath too short. As the from fro ted the main road a blind or even net curtains would have helped.
Review 68:Comfy bed.
Review 69:Nobody there to greet us . Left waiting 20 mins . There was rubbish down the side of the bed otherwise the room was ok . Someone had broke the bed the night before so we had a mattress on the floor which we said not to bother mending but this should have been done before we arrived . There was a note on our bed when we got in at night saying sorry no breakfast the staff are ill trying to find a cafe in skipton at 8am on a Sunday morning was to no avail . Won't rush back !!
Review 70:Location
Review 71:Very central position in the town , clean pleasant room ,very good views from the room and helpful staff. Would not hesitate to recommend or stay there again in future.
Review 72:Cups too small in room - would prefer mugs although these were provided when we asked. Would also prefer small jug of milk rather than UHT pots although few places offer fresh milk these days.
Review 73:What a big change from last year! hotel has had complete refurbish with lovely rooms and same friendly staff. Breakfast not now included in room rate but at £5 it was very reasonable. Will use this hotel again when next in area
Review 74:Sky cable was being installed. Did not receive notice until the installer knocked on my door and entered my room. I felt uncomfortable. Would have preferred adequate notice so I could have vacated the room at the time. Otherwise, all was good as usual.
Review 75:This hotel is clean, modern and in a great location for getting access to the town centre etc.
Review 76:car parking facilities, would have liked a long stay car park a little closer. ended up paying £13 for a weekly parking ticket, which wasn't too bad
Review 77:staff excellent, very friendly and helpful
Review 78:The location was very noisy as close to a nightclub but other than that everything great
Review 79:Room very clean and nicely decorated, staff very friendly and helpful
Review 80:The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the shower, the room had a lovely new bathroom but the shower was poor
Review 81:The room we had was room 11 it was a king sized room with a comfy sofa and giant tv and it was extremely clean and spacious.
Review 82:Nothing bad at all
Review 83:Hotel is brilliant. Our room had a lounge area and a bedroom area. Great for relaxing. Everything is modern and clean. Nice staff. Can't wait to go back!
Review 84:Stairs leading up to reception, so a little challenging with luggage. Could possibly benefit from an interior ramp. Other than that, a very positive experience.
Review 85:I liked the convenience of the location. Short walk to the train station and the high street. The friendliness of the staff. The rooms are immaculate, comfortable and well laid out. Good value for money.
Review 86:Friendly staff, very accommodating. Great location - very central to town. Cheap, excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay again.
Review 87:Bed was hardest bed I've ever been in, not much sleep, alarm going off outside in the night, no breakfast served in morning.
Review 88:Location was good, very clean
Review 89:Very hot and humid. No sheet provided only duvet. Damp and musty smell to room, although no damp could be found, that clung to clothes. Mattress and pillows very soft.
Review 90:Convenient for town centre High standard of decor in communal areas Fabulous breakfast Large spacious room with toiletries provided
Review 91:The hotel is centrally located in Skipton but has no parking.
Review 92:This hotel has been completely refitted this year. It looks really fresh. The staff are really friendly and work hard to make you welcome. Nothing seems too much trouble.
Review 93:What a gorgeous hotel - fab location, beautifully decorated and very comfortable with free toileteries, tea, biscuits etc. Very good value and much nicer than staying in a 'chain' hotel! Highly recommended! :)
Review 94:The Unicorn was a delight to stay at, friendly helpful staff, wonderful new and clean rooms, fantastic breakfast. We found a gem of a hotel at a bargain price. Very impressed.
Review 95:acsess to room no 11 not good for peoplewith mobility problems shoud be stated in advertising no lift.will stay again ,but on lower floor ..
Review 96:made very welcome very clean every thing on hand breakfast plenty choice coud not falt it. many thanks j m .
Review 97:Like most hotels we visit, it's the small things that let them down. No on - site parking. Reception and rooms all first floor or higher. No lift. No hand towels for bathroom, only bath towels . We were offerred an additional bath towel but we declined. Wife likes a hand towel to wrap around hair after a shower. Took me a while to work out the shower (nothing new there with hotel showers) Shower is fixed temperature which isn't very good when outside temperatures were 30`C. No hairdryer.
Review 98:Location is very good for town centre. Clean and smart.
Review 99:2 towels provided,1 stained.Toast served on same plate as breakfast.Waiter dressed in jog pants and T shirt.I had to request milk for my tea.Not a professional manner.A toast rack costs peanuts. No attention to detail in dining room.
Review 100:bedroom was comfortable.
Review 101:I assumed this was an hotel, but was actually a B & B. No evening meals or a Bar, only two bath towels supplied so had to ask for an extra towel to dry hair, (told they don't do hand towels.)
Review 102:Super, comfortable bed, really good nights sleep. Two minutes walk to town centre.
Review 103:Not the best of locations! ( entrance down a side street) also parking a problem, no allocated parking places for the hotel, although a pay car park opposite.
Review 104:The room had obviously been recently refurbished and decorated, which was tasteful, it was spacious and very clean. The bed was very `comfy`, we would certainly recommend it.
Review 105:My husband was expecting it to be a pub because of the name, but there are plenty of pubs nearby.
Review 106:I liked that the Unicorn is in the middle of town, is clean and updated in decor and the price was reasonable.
Review 107:Charged full price for a child's breakfast. We ate up the road for a lot cheaper at breakfast time.
Review 108:The cleanliness of the hotel. Nicely decorated and stylish.
Review 109:There was a tile missing above the mirror in the en-suite and the paintwork a bit slap-dash if I'm being picky. As it's a town centre hotel there is a bit of noise from traffic and and beware the night club next door if you're staying at weekends.
Review 110:A friendly reception at this small hotel in Skipton that has recently been refurbished to a generally high standard. The single room 9 is very small but does have en-suite and even a small ironing board and iron. Good quality bedding too. Breakfast ok but I might not take the option next time as there are plenty of other places in town nearby.
Review 111:Stairs were a bit of a problem and our room overlooked a busy main road and Bus station so needed to close window at night.
Review 112:Although this is a very old building it has been really well refurbished. The room was bright and clean.
Review 113:The room was lovely and spacious with everything we needed, the staff were over and above helpful which was greatly appreciated, can't believe that is cost as little as it did!
Review 114:shower (took me ages to rinse my hair....no pressure) No hand towels No mattress or pillow protectors
Review 115:breakfast, although as my partner declined mushrooms and tomatoes, he wasn't offered anything else to replace them. But otherwise excellent product. Location fab.
Review 116:Two doors away from a nightclub, very noisy until the early hours of the morning. Shower very poor flow and water tepid at best.
Review 117:Very friendly staff, comfortable accommodation, good food.
Review 118:Excellent location, right in the town centre, was'nt noisy though.Everything in the room looked new, like it had recently been refurbished.Would definitely stay there again when in skipton.
Review 119:Parking-my brotherhood a ticket. Car park was full we were going a wedding taking other members of family. Warden observed car on single yellow for ten mins and fined him.
Review 120:Defoe and cleanliness
Review 121:There is some free parking at the side of hotel, yet you would need to get in quick as locals fill this up early on a morning. That said there is a Pay car-park directly opposite, and side roads further down the road, so still workable.
Review 122:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Great location right in town. Handy for trips into the Dales. Ideal base for a short (or longer) holiday. Recommended.
Review 123:The noise from nightclub and taxi rank on a Saturday night was loud. Lots of stairs. No good if u have mobility issues.
Review 124:Lovely staff. Modern hotel. Comfortable beds. Very clean. Didn't have breakfast but it smelt very nice. .
Review 125:Very slight problem as it was hot we slept with the windows open locals where a bit noisy when the pubs closed not a problem with the windows closed didn't spoil the holiday at all
Review 126:Staff are helpful and friendly the location is brilliant walk out the door and your in the town centre. The room was clean and tidy ( high prase as my wife is very fussy)
Review 127:Our room was next to kitchen very noisy in the morning when breakfast started but only a little thing didn't interfere with our stay
Review 128:Great location for nice bars and restaurants, friendly owner and comfortable room
Review 129:Can't get any more central, newly refurbished, spotless, friendly staff, didn't have breakfast so can't comment in this respect. Whenever I visit skipton this will be my first try for vacancies
Review 130:We tried to book breakfast but we were told there was no food. The man on reception seemed to disappear during the evening and we didn't see any other staff; we checked out by leaving the keys on the desk as there was nobody around. It was very noisy at night when the night club next door closed.
Review 131:The room was clean and comfortable. Plenty of hot water and towels, the toiletries were a bonus.
Review 132:Some members of staff a little dour. One man very friendly and helpful, but the others didn't look interested and didn't want to help when we asked for advice on the area.
Review 133:Great location, very modern and clean, excellent amenities in room (especially love the Yorkshire tea mugs!). Perfect for those looking for a nice B&B at a reasonable price in a lovely place.
Review 134:Clean well kept room comfy beds with central location of a beautiful place and excellent value for money. Lots of restaurants and pubs nearby and just around the corner from shops which lead up to the lovely Skipton castle.
