Reviews for Daios Cove Luxury Resort & Villas

Review 1:The food quality was excellent but was not value for money in some instances, e.g. Price of soft drinks at beach bar. However this can be avoided by bringing your own.

Review 2:The location, quality and service were all exceptional and we couldn't have asked for more

Review 3:don't know were to start the food is way to expensive (greek salad 14.- euro) for the quality. normaly between 4-6 euros. we have been to the finest restaurants on the island and the hotel is the most expensive one. ridiculous prices for food and drinks at every bar and restaurant of the resort, but at the same time very bad quality. the manager of the restaurant tried to make it up after a long talk, but i guess that was to late. the breakfast is until 10:30, but they start taking away the buffet 2 minutes before 10.30 in a speed you haven't seen yet. the quality of the breakfast is very bad. we had better in 2 star hotels. they have an extra breakfast room with better quality for the villa guests, but if you pay 400.- minimum for your room you start to wonder. also it creates a two class athmosphere. the spa (steaming room, sauna) costs an extra of 24.- euros for each person a day, which is not declared on their website or on booking.com so if you want to make a spa resort vacation you pay a lot extra. we also complained about this, so they invited us. very tedious. on the way to the room you have to pass a place were they have a big problem with the canalisation. so you have to walk trough a horrible stinking area everytime you go to your room or main building. the hotel is ok, but the management seems to miss. you can go there if you don't care about money. we will not come back.

Review 4:the private beach was nice.

Review 5:1. Our mattress had a worn pocket in it - not comfortable 2. Flexibility on dropping last evening stay with three days notice

Review 6:Overall quality of the resort

Review 7:Over priced, everything. 200-300€ per night would be ok, but 700… Its not Four Season.

Review 8:The hotel is nice, but we paid 700€ night… had friends same place same time which paid half..

Review 9:The resort is a little isolated, there is nowhere to walk to so if you're looking for nightlife/entertainment this is not the place for you.

Review 10:Efficient and friendly staff. Breakfast was excellent and Greek taverna was very good but expensive. The beach is clean and Vladimir takes care of you very well re sun loungers, towels etc. We came away feeling beautifully rested.

Review 11:Price/quality doesn't match in this hotel starting with poor service and bad organization (not typical for Greece). We could make check in just at 17.00 without informing us when it will happen, so the first day was kind of lost. The most of the swimming pools and terraces in the rooms are staying near each other, so no privacy in case you book that room for about 500 euro per night. The most important is that the hotel is cold and is missing a comfortable spirit like the place you want to be.

Review 12:Very quiet and no people from other hotels.

Review 13:THERE ARE A LOT OF KIDS AND THEN A LOT OF NOICE NEAR THE BEACH AND NEAR THE SWIMMING POOL

Review 14:ALL WAS AMAZING

Review 15:only 1 radio station free. if you want more, you have to pay daily Internet radio

Review 16:The service and the location were amazing

Review 17:The staff are great.

Review 18:buffet style dinner but not much of an issue as there are 2 more restaurants and a perfect room service with a huge menu as alternative

Review 19:Hotel location; nice villa on 2 floors with private pool; level of service outstanding and far the usual routine

Review 20:Wish the weather had been better - can't fault the resort though. (Only sunny on our last day.) Was even more beautiful here when the weather was nice!

Review 21:The cove setting was so peaceful. So much going on here on all the many levels. Excellent breakfast.

Review 22:Not knowing at time of booking that the cost of heating the delux room private pool is excessive and not worth it - some room balconies don't get any sun all day so be careful to ask about type of room and additional costs if you want a heated pool.

Review 23:The location / the beach and beautiful water / the space in the room / the spacious en suite /

Review 24:First of all I wrote the letter to the hotel asking about transfer and they didn't even answer. Also we had problems with check-in - the first room was very far from the beach and the view was dissapointing (not like the view on the hotel pictures). We were satisfied with the second room they offered but after they showed it to us somehow it figured out this room is already booked for guests with special request for this room. After we were pretty disappointed and the third room shown to us was just dirty!!! And they asked us to wait until they clean it up... So I was so frustrated, tired after the flight and just dreaming about the shower... Finally after my conversation with front office manager they found us a nice room not far from the beach... This issue is just unappropriate for a ''luxury'' hotel like they are trying to be... As for destination - you can't reach any village by foot - you have to use a taxi. Food in restaurants was ok, but too pricy - Greek salad for $15. Italian restaurant is nice though. Beach is overcrowded. All in all it's not so bad but definitely doesn't worth the money you pay.

Review 25:The bay is pretty. Also I left my swimming suit in the room and they sent it to me to Santorini - that was very nice. Front office manager was nice to us after our issues and provide us a free dinner in the restaurant.

Review 26:This place is definitely on the expensive side, but what you will get isalways worth the money. The funicular to go to some rooms and the tenniscourts is a bit slow. This may be a bit annoying when the resort isfully booked.

Review 27:Staff and services provided there are simply flawless. Rooms are big, bathrooms have shower and bath. The food is of good quality andavailable for a reasonable price.

Review 28:lots of poor quality food / ie the egg person couldn't fry an egg / poor entertainment / poor restaurants

Review 29:attentive staff / location

Review 30:Luxury is about people's little whims being satisfied, in other words I want and I want it know. At Daios someone should remind the staff that service is not only about being friendly but being efficient. Gastronomy was the biggest disappointment. Food in Crete is outstanding but the island influence is not felt here. We tried all eating options at Daios at it was not up to the standard for a luxury hotel. Mojitos at the beach in which the ice has melted too much are sad. Pasta and potatoes overcooked in the fine italian restaurant and a breakfast buffet which lacked variety and imagination could certainly be improved

Review 31:The set up, the way in which the buildings are integrated into the landscape are outstanding. Bedrooms, the view, the beach concept make this a relaxing getaway

Review 32:Some of these comments are things we didn't like, while others are simply things you should know before booking:1. The hotel is a SOLID one hour drive from Heraklion airport, and will cost you between 85 and 100 Euros each way.2. Crete is an arid and rocky island, and much of the infrastructure here is second world. There is a lot of trash on the sides of the road, and the hotel itself is located just down the ridge from relatively rundown area. To be certain, the hotel's photographer deserves kudos for judiciously omitting the backside of the hotel, as you look up at the area often during your visit. Also, the website's pictures are clearly taken off-season, as there was no greenery on the hillsides, and the beach layout looks nothing like the pictures (think sardines in a can for a more accurate description).3. We reserved a room with a sea view and private pool. As others have noted, the sea view is sometimes just that...a view. Our original room looked directly at the back of a utility shed, and the sea could only be seen by walking out onto the patio and looking far left. Also, the "private" pools aren't private at all; they're simply not shared explicitly with your next door neighbor. The wall that separates the pools neither runs the length of each pool, nor does it extend above the water by more than a foot or so. Was it worth the extra money? Eh...4. The hotel is VERY family friendly, and kids literally colonize the infinity pool. Despite the posted signs prohibiting such, small children are also frequently enjoying the adults-only pool next to the bar. And if your neighbor has children, you'll likely find little reprieve in your own private pool.5. Part of the issue I think the Greeks may be having with the economy is their concept of pricing. Water sports, for example, command gouging prices (e.g. 15 minutes on a jet ski costs a princely 50 Euros).

Review 33:The cove's waters are very nice, and the "private" pools are a nice feature. There is decent snorkeling, but nothing like other places nearby. The food is also good, if a bit pricey (especially considering the current state of the Greek economy). The breakfast buffet is very good with lots of variety, and you can get omelettes the way you want them if you ask (be sure to tell them no cream in your eggs, or oil, if you want just plain eggs). The resort facilities are nice and spacious, and the bathroom was outstanding, especially the rain shower! The beds are also very comfortable. The fitness facility and Spa are nice, but because the resort is so large, timing is everything! The steam room at the Spa is very nice, and the Breeze and Rain functions, while only temporary, are a nice feature.

Review 34:Although the facilities were excellent the big problem with this resort is that there are too many guests in relation to what the resort can handle. Result is shortage of beds at swimming pool and shortage of beds at beach. Waiting lines for breakfast and dinner. Fully booked restaurants and long waits for cable cars. This problem is especially at high season when hotel is 100% booked an issue. SInce you pay a lot of money to stay in this resort you expect perfection and this is simply not the case.

Review 35:A beautiful resort at a perfect location. Friendly and professional staff. The hotel is well designed. Rooms are spacious. Spa is of world class.

Review 36:Room cleaning is not always in time. Breakfast is the same every day. In general food is not as 5 star hotel has to have.

Review 37:Perfect location and view. Rooms are very comfortable. Beautiful pools and beach area. All stuff is friendly. We liked there very much!

Review 38:The breakfast was only till 10.30am this should be later especially on the weekend.

Review 39:The hotel was in an amazing location set in a cove, the exterior of the hotel blended into the natural cove scene which was great. The staff were great very attentive and the pool/ beach was not crowded just right.

Review 40:Very friendly staff, unbelievable luxury

Review 41:A lot of guests had children which made meal times noisy and unpeaceful.

Review 42:The attention to customer care

Review 43:It was difficult to get the room by foot

Review 44:Almost everything

Review 45:nothing

Review 46:Spacious, private, luxury in a wonderful setting with superb facilitites and excellent staff and high standard of food and wine

Review 47:poor internet connection

Review 48:friendly staff, very good location
