Reviews for Westminster Hotel
Review 1:The cost for just a room - which we only found out when we arrived at 8pm.
Review 2:The room was lovely - clean and comfortable. Unfortunately there was no breakfast included or any food available. Myself and my mum are disabled and use walking aids so despite the lift it was hard getting anything to eat.
Review 3:Lounge area being decorated out of bounds Smelly bathroom where you wouldn't want to get showered & it was a necessity to even go for a wee Basic Old Had front room with noise from people heading home from pubs Curtains like paper so didn't shield the light out No heating in room when freezing cold outside Door key & lock struggled to work together to open
Review 4:Staff courteous and helpful
Review 5:Very dated. No pressure in the shower. Expensive for age, with those prices couldn't they afford to modernise bit by bit then they might have more customers!!
Review 6:Location and room was clean
Review 7:I felt the bed a bit uncomfortable and pillows were a little to flat for my liking I think breakfast could have been included in the cost for the room
Review 8:I liked the location of the hotel and it was good to know that there was plenty of shops close by
Review 9:Breakfast. I paid £7.50 extra for a cooked breakfast, which was of generally poor quality, but by far the worst thing on the plate were the sausages. They were spongy, rusk-filled and tasteless. I thought they stopped making sausages like that in the 70's. When I mentioned this on checkout, the woman gave me the impression my complaint was unjustified and became very defensive. Vote with your feet and go to the cafe round the corner for breakfast until they get the message. For £7.50 that breakfast is an insult.
Review 10:Friendly staff, clean and comfortable room, 24h reception.
Review 11:Fir the normal person with no great expectations.
Review 12:It was a pleasant stays disappointed could not get a cup of tea when the bar was open at 9.30 rooms a nice size.
Review 13:No Wifi in the room but it is available in the bar/lounge area other than that everything else was spot on!
Review 14:Warm welcome! Very friendly, accomodating staff. Our room was very clean and spacious In a great location and easy to find Definitely recommend Westminister hotel! :) We will definitely be staying here again when we decide to take a little trip to Rhyl :)
Review 15:Car parking facility was good. Didn't have the breakfast as it was extra, so went to 'Subway' for a breakfast special. Otherwise no 'complaints'.
Review 16:Breakfast is only served between 8&9 on Saturdays, we paid but slept in instead after a great night round town. Decor a little dated.
Review 17:Staff couldn't be more helpful, parking is free although it is recommended you get there as early as possible. Rooms very clean and bed very comfortable, location is ideal.
Review 18:as a disabled guest its always worrying what a hotel would be like, if I was catered for and so on, but I must say the staff were extremely helpful putting us in the room right opposite the lift. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Review 19:Car parking is a bit of a pain. It would be better if the hotel could arrange for residents to park at the shopping centre car park (next door) at special rates and then provide a dropping off point, perhaps using part of the hotel car park.
Review 20:Quiet and trouble free (other than carparking)
Review 21:Bed was too firm for my taste, but that is a personal preference. Did have some noise from other guests slamming doors, could do with the door closers being adjusted, so they don't slam.
Review 22:Location was fantastic, right on the front and close to the town centre. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. Room and hotel were very clean. Breakfast was great, plenty if it and you weren't rushed. All in all a good stay and would definitely stay there again.
Review 23:We were on 4th floor and the power of the shower was not sufficient. We did tell reception-someone did look at it and said a new pump was needed. As we were only there 2 nights we did not pursue this matter further but it would have been a problem if staying longer.
Review 24:All staff were very polite & helpful. Breakfast was good.
Review 25:There wasn't anything to dislike!
Review 26:We loved our stay at The Westminster & would love to stay again. It was very welcoming, the staff were friendly & everywhere spotlessly clean. 10/10
Review 27:Hotel does not have its own parking and that was an issue. Lovely old sash windows all except one was painted shut. The one that could open a small way was right above the smoking area.
Review 28:Good Location, Room 12 had a good view.
Review 29:The room we got was a smoking room and had a really bad smell of cigarettes, being non smokers we asked to change rooms where we were told they didn't have any available. I believe we were lied to about room availability as a friend managed to book a non smoking room later that day. In the room, the shower was really poor as it didn't get warm and hardly anything came out. We also thought it was quite expensive regarding the facilities.
Review 30:the hotel was clean and the bar stayed open late
Review 31:* Could use some updating * Communication in the hotel terrible - we paid for breakfast as requested at arrival along with room (£7.50 per adult and £5 per child for breakfast) but ended up having a dispute with kitchen staff the following morning as they claimed we had not paid. A trip back to the room for our full receipt to prove payment was needed - not impressed.
Review 32:* Location - close to everything and right along the sea front. * Room was spacious and clean.
Review 33:We needed to use the pay and display car park behind the hotel, which meant that we needed to either move the car or pay for it the following morning by 8am at the weekends. This didn't bother us early birds but may put others off, although it's only £1 for 4 hours, although if booking during the week this car park is locked at night so would be tricky. This was however our only complaint and was just a minor inconvenience.
Review 34:Great location as we were on a road trip so really enjoyed the drive to Snowdonia. Right by the beach and a very easy walk to the town and local amenities.
Review 35:Paid extra for breakfast but service was rushed as a coach party was in . Wasn't offered the full choice of food and saw other people having foods we weren't offered .No top ups of tea coffee offered and had to get per own sauces .
Review 36:Parking was a little restricted as the number of spaces was small compared to the number of guests.
Review 37:The location was excellent within easy reach of all the amenities of the town.
Review 38:The hotel is tired & run down and not worth £70 a night. Also when we arrived the receptionist had no record of our booking.
Review 39:The only good thing about this hotel was the location.
Review 40:Musty smell, old fashioned style in interior, bad parking, they wanted us to leave our car key behind the front desk incase they needed to move the car, so weird, they need a huge renovation and soon.
Review 41:High season - no eve entertainment ..when ad for hotel says there is live entertainment at weekends .. disappointed !
Review 42:Clean rooms and friendly staff, near all facilities of the town.
Review 43:Room was old and dirty staff was very rude upon arrival who told me at 18.00 hours that my room may not be even cleaned and ready yet even Thore it states check in from 14.00 hours !!
Review 44:The room was quite small and a bit old fashioned. The staff were polite but not overly helpful. Wi-fi reception in the room was a bit hit and miss. I was warned off the food so ate elsewhere. So overall a bit average but that is to be expected at that price.
Review 45:The Hotel is in a location not too far from the railway station and is on the sea front, and the price was good.
Review 46:Room was nothing like advertised only stayed 2 nights but while we were there all day Saturday we decided to stay out. We were told to park 2 streets away nothing mentioned about limited parking
Review 47:The property was aged, wood chip on walls, papered ceilings, purple paintwork, bathroom needed a good cleaning and refurbished, shower was a waste of time as temperature constantly fluctuated, the place resembled a doss house, noisy guests were coming and going throughout the night, certainly not worth £100 for one night.
Review 48:Leaving as soon as possible.
Review 49:Due to the fact I had to pay for breakfast separately. It doesn't say that on the website so that was misleading. Considering I payed 180.00 pounds you expect breakfast. Then you have to pay an extra 30 pounds for breakfast and to be fair it was poor
Review 50:I could not fault the hotel
Review 51:The price for what it is. A very old fashioned hotel, wasn't particularly clean. Room was OK, like a cheap b&b. Kettle was full of lime scale. I would've paid £50 pn tops! Charging extra just because there was an event on across the road with no justification of the price. Even wanted an extra £7.50 for breakfast!
Review 52:Good location on the front.
Review 53:The lift seemed to be a little temperamental. It would be helpful if breakfast were available before 8am.
Review 54:Nice light airy room; clean, quiet and comfortable.
Review 55:Paid a lot for basic room with no black out curtains windows that needed to be jammed open & charges for shower gel. The entertainment :).
Review 56:Car Parking to rear and staff were friendly
Review 57:I was lucky enough to be given an 'executive' room. Quiet and clean - and lucky enough to be given an 'executive' 4 poster bed with net drapes and a sea view! What more could a weary traveller ask for!
Review 58:The bathroom didn't look like it had been cleaned there was hair on the bath as well as scum stains around the edge. Also on Monday morning when we woke everything in the bathroom was soaked like a tap had leaked. We were also opposite the stairs/lift so were woken every morning by people talking outside our paper thin door.
Review 59:My boyfriend and I came here for the bank holiday weekend as we were learning kite surfing in the school opposite. In terms of location for us it was perfect.
Review 60:We found the staff very uncooperative the owner had an extremely arrogant attitude. Our beds were very uncomfortable, we had no air in the room as we could not open the windows. the bathroom was filthy as were the curtains and the net curtains. We also found that on top of the £70 per night charge we had to pay extra for the breakfast. To top it all off my husband spotted the owner at the local Asda buying all smart price goods which reflected in the breakfast!
Review 61:The Waitresses were very nice.
Review 62:The shower was shocking. There was no water pressure and it was not warm in the slightest. We were told when leaving that we should have turned on the tap in the sink to make the shower warmer (What the...). It was a little frustrating and left a sour taste in our mouths that we weren't told about it at all.
Review 63:Really nice rustic, vintage feel to the place and a nice vibe in the main room.
Review 64:Just the signal on the tv.
Review 65:Location, Staff were friendly and always helpful, Free Wifi, offered good prices direct with hotel with free breakfast. Rooms were neat, clean and tidy.
Review 66:Kettle definitely needed replacing couldn't make my baby bottles because kettle was full of limescale to a very bad extent.. Couldn't bath the kids because the bath looked very dirty and paid extra for a baby's cot and got a playpen which had seen better days so baby slept in bed with us..
Review 67:Staff was friendly
Review 68:£7.50 per person for breakfast. And Flat Pillows. Uncomfortable chairs.
Review 69:They changed our room to one with a bath instead of a shower and they were quiet accomadating
Review 70:Very basic, and was expecting more from the 'premier hotel in Rhyl'. I dont expect to have to pay £3 extra to pay by credit card or pay 40p for shampoo. No desk in room either. But the hotel is trying to get back to its glory days I guess and staff were very nice.
Review 71:Staff friendly and breakfast was good
Review 72:Not so much bad experience just disappointed that breakfast was not included in the price. Would still stay at hotel.
Review 73:The linen was crisp and fresh, the room basic and was very clean, I had a sea view which was very nice, I was on the third floor and it was very quiet no noise, wud defo stay again, close to shops. Staff very polite and helpful
Review 74:Had a complaint about noise coming from room next door. Staff did not do enough to ensure the guests were quiet. Basically asked them once to keep it down, and were not concerned that it carried on. Hotel refunded half the room rate, but would have preferred them to have dealt with the problem better than they did.
Review 75:Location
Review 76:As walking to the room, the hotel stunk of smoke even though there was no smoking signs displayed all over the hallways. The room was freezing, and even though we complained, they just gave us an extra blanket. The bathroom floor was dirty, and the carpet was stained. On entrance, we were asked to hand over car keys when leaving the building in case of a fire, even though the car park entrance was just about big enough for a small car, never mind an emergency vehicle. On departure, there was no staff at reception to say good bye or so we could give our views on our unpleasant stay. The car park was just a spare bit of tarmac and even though it said that there were cameras in use 24/7, they were just old rusted cameras that were facing the sky.
Review 77:The house cleaning was good, and the cleaning staff were nice.
Review 78:On arrival, receptionist in overcoat on front steps of hotel smoking a cigarette. Parking at rear, disability access at front. (My wife is disabled) Given a second floor room. Wheelchair will not fit in lift. No telephone in room, non available at reception, public phone out of order. No Yellow pages available. Went for breakfast. nothing set out whatsoever. Went to Weatherspoons. 50 years since I have visited Rhyl, it will be another 50 years before I stay at this hotel.
Review 79:Nothing at all could not find any faults
Review 80:Very clean very friendly good parking good food lift if needed smoking canopy outside definately use again roomsvery clean and large every thing you need
Review 81:Quietly surprised how good this place is considering the respectable priced they charge. Helpful staff, plenty room in the bar lounge, right on the sea front and right near the town shops. All in all very good.
Review 82:If u pay thought net u don't get free breakfast if u spend 3 nites which I think is wrong. Should be told before u book
Review 83:Lovely clean place, would stay again
Review 84:Sometimes a smell of cigarette smoke. Quite tired décor, but investment in the area and newly painted exterior means up and coming. Breakfast extra
Review 85:near to our daughter who we were visiting. There is parking but only a few spaces so get there early. Sea view amazing again, thank you,.
Review 86:Hotel modern clean and comfortable. When i read some of the comments from other guests i was unsure if i should book this hotel or not. Really glad that i chose to see for myself!
Review 87:Quite expensive for what you get. They should include breakfast in the price. Also need to sort out tv signals in rooms and pressure of water in shower
Review 88:Location close to everywhere. Rooms not a bad size
Review 89:Sticky bathroom floor and piece of grubby toilet tissue left on floor next to the toilet.
Review 90:Seafront Hotel, reasonable price for sea view. OK for a short (one or two) nights stay.
Review 91:Drinks in the in-house bar are very expensive, especially considering the dull and old fashioned décor in the bar/seating area. The meals were expensive as well, so we didn't eat there. The hotel is a little grubby and worn around the edges, but, for me, that added to its charm .
Review 92:The location is excellent for the beach, shops and amusements. We took our three grandchildren and they loved the whole experience because of being in sight and sound and very short walking distance of the beach. The open air concert, held just opposite the Hotel over the Bank Holiday was a extra bonus! The hotel is basically clean and sound and the family room is a good size. We will go back for another short stay as the Westminster has a nice friendly feel.
Review 93:the tapioca pudding served as porridge-it certainly was not!
Review 94:The speedy service when we arrived in the dining room, already full of guests, given by a lovely cheerful waitress, orders taken and food delivered in quick succession. The helpful reception staff when we had a an unusual request
Review 95:The hotel room was dirty, the window was left opened supported with a piece of wood and was making terrible noise even when it is close and wind blows. The bed was horrible I end up with back pain. Not enough parking, the lift very small and old fashion, no telephone in the rooms, the bathroom curtains worn out. No big towels. No value for your money.
Review 96:The Hotel is situated at a very nice place close to the beach and everything else.
Review 97:Parking No room amenities no soap no shampoo no extra towels Stayed 3 nights and no bed sheets were changed Room service very bad
Review 98:Just an average hotel
Review 99:This is a sad and rather run-down hotel in a sad and run-down town. The decor is shabby but the key elements of a reasonable bed for the night at a reasonable price make it acceptable for what it is
Review 100:The staff were pleasant and helpful and the rooms were clean and there was wifi and TV with coffee in the rooms. Adequate bathroom facilities.
Review 101:Noise levels were quite high as there was an air show on over the weekend so the hotel was full. The walls aren't the thickest. Single room mattress could also have been better.
Review 102:The location on the seafront is the key selling point for this hotel, along with the fact that it is only an 8-10 minute walk to the railway station. Staff were also friendly and value for money good so on this basis I would recommend.
Review 103:The mattress was so uncomfortable. Worst nights sleep ever. I'm sorry to say there is no point upgrading the hotel and keeping cheaper than cheap mattresses.
Review 104:Staff were lovely hotel was dated but clean. You could tell they have tried to upgrade it.
Review 105:strong stench in one room even while airing breakfast not included by online booking extra fee for paying with credit card without information about this while online booking
Review 106:good location near the strand
Review 107:Park away from hotel as there carpark is shared and is confusing as hell! Next door neighbours clamp vehicles and the carpark looks like the hotels so its pot luck whether ull get the clamp! Also no restaurant yet they serve coach loads of elderly but not the regular guests... Even when your staying you can't have a tab for drinks and minimum spend is £10! So buying yourself a beer or soft drink is a nightmare unless you have cash.. The room I stayed in was on the top floor it stinks of cigarettes and there's no hot water!!! Ashtray next to bed and overall in poor condition.. Lady on reception was nice but I feel this hotels heading one way and that's down. The town itself is the worst I've seen very very run down. Oh back to parking when I came to leave I was blocked in literally by 3 cars.. This is my first negative experience and I don't like reporting this type of feedback but if you doubt me check it out yourself.
Review 108:Next to sea so decent views
Review 109:This was the most over-priced accommodation I have ever experienced. For £75 sterling (not including breakfast!) I expected something much better. * There were loud plumbing noises during the night. * The lift was too small for two people and their bags. My wife and I got stuck in the lift, rang the alarm bell, but nobody came; eventually we freed ourselves. * The room was grim, the beds not very comfortable. * Having a hot shower was a trial: you had to follow complex instructions involving the hot and cold taps in the sink, as well as the shower controls themselves.
Review 110:Cold draft , shower diabolical had to hav wash down in sink all week , tv to small , bed not fixed together well mattress uncomfy and stained , for £65 a night I expected more for my money .
Review 111:Sea view
Review 112:The furnishings, decor etc seemed to resemble something from the 1950's and clearly have been in the rooms since at least then.
Review 113:The staff that we met were helpful, friendly and seemed motivated to provide a good service.
Review 114:Small room, bathroom was too small, noisy hotel, doors slamming, old carpets, I wanted an evening meal and was told they were running out of food, and to do to the high street. i did not eat Breakfast too late for me,
Review 115:Location on the Beach
Review 116:Credit card charge (not mentioned on hotel website) and listed as not applicable on booking.com Room decor No shower gel nor shampoo in room (although could be purchased at reception) Staff attitude (one too interested in his coffee and another unable to smile) Had to breathe in to squeeze between sink and door to get to shower (I'm only a 34inch waist) Piece of wood wedging window open Lack of hook in bathroom to hang clothes on. Nowhere in bathroom for bath towel whilst showering. Lack of wifi
Review 117:Location Comfy bed
Review 118:Noisy seagulls - not much the hotel could do about that though, but the windows could not be shut tightly.
Review 119:Breakfast - well organised, clean and pleasant room, prompt service, good food. Quiet apart from the seagulls. Central position, if that is what you are looking for. Right by the sea front.
Review 120:Horrible location, deceptive picture which was far from reality, room smelling of paint and a hotel in a noisy road front - a motorway travelodge would have been more peaceful and value for money
Review 121:Nothing
Review 122:Staff where very helpful and friendly from start to finish of stay would go back again Room was nice clean and tidy recommended to friends and family
Review 123:Very popular with coach parties of OAP's. Not really our scene. Breakfast was extra and not really great quality.
Review 124:We stayed one night when going to a concert. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean.
Review 125:Bathroom wanted a good clean. Stairs did not feel safe, also wonky.
Review 126:Very expensive. No breakfast included. Kettle wasn't working. Reported this and was told it would be swopped which it wasnt
Review 127:Good location
Review 128:No bad experiences.
Review 129:Location near all amenities. Pleasant and helpful staff. Good breakfast.
Review 130:no tea time food
Review 131:the friendlyness and helpfulness of the staff
Review 132:Hotel is in gd range of shops pubs value for money
Review 133:Lovely helpful staff clean cosy room relaxing belting shower with loads of room worth us staying extra nights as we did happy all round with our stay
Review 134:No evening meal
Review 135:Staff very helpful and courteous
