Reviews for Craven Heifer Inn - Skipton

Review 1:Slight issue of cleanliness with the shower grouting and more storage in the bedroom, eg a chest of drawers, and a towel rail in the bathroom would have been helpful.

Review 2:The hotel was in a beautiful location close to a number of tourist attractions, the staff were friendly and the food was excellent.

Review 3:We would like to see the breakfast time extended to 10:00 AM. Staff stop serving at 9:00 & if you want a little sleep-in, you'll miss the breakfast. We would also like to see a cooked menu offered. The only major complaint we had this time (our second stay here), was how uncomfortable the twin beds were (in Room 10). They felt like children's beds & for two senior citizens (like we are), my husband & I both found them hard & unyielding. Yes, they were narrow as well, but the fact the mattress was quite thin on top of a hard board-type surface, caused us both to have backaches the next day. Not only did we have trouble sleeping, we had difficulty staying asleep once we finally did succumb. The beds in the rooms we stayed at on a previous visit were firm but didn't leave you feeling bruised & battered the next morning. Other than that, we loved the location of the room. It was quiet & well-supplied with towels, coffee, tea, etc.

Review 4:We love how friendly, helpful & competent the staff is. We were there two days leading up to Christmas Day so they were busy planning for their big Christmas event. But, they were not too busy or frazzled to still treat us special. We love the food - there is always plenty of it & it's fresh. I was delighted to see towel rails on the bathroom. It shows management is willing to listen to its customers. Thank you!

Review 5:The only thing that became an issue was the lack of plug sockets there was only 1, we had to keep unplugging things to use something else (hair straightners, camera, phones etc) , in this world of technology it needs sockets. We did notice that the people in the next room had things plugged in on the landing

Review 6:Good size room. Excellent food and staff were really friendly and helpful. the beds were comfortable and i liked the fact we could regulate our own heating in the room

Review 7:On the negative side, I didn't realise that breakfast was only continental, but even so for the reasonable price of my stay and the wide variety of the continental breakfast, it was quite good. My only real negative was the breakfast staff. The two particular ladies that I had both mornings were very unfriendly and in the end another couple and myself ended up fending for ourselves as the two staff were more interested in their own conversations. There was no welcome or smile with any of the visitors, and I did feel quite intimidated at times. It is such a shame as everything else was brilliant.

Review 8:The Landlady and other bar staff were very welcoming and helpful. The evening meal was excellent. The pub itself and my room were very clean. It seems a very popular place and was very busy. It is in the stunning countryside of North Yorkshire, but not isolated from the town so in a very good location.

Review 9:no Wifi in the room only the pub, also when in the bar my freind asked if she could use her vapouriser she was told yes , to be followed by a sharp no! from the landlady with her her back to us.

Review 10:Staff freindly & food 1st class

Review 11:super location good helpful and cheerful staff and comfortable. perhaps bed pillows and linen could be upgraded. some of the carpets looked tired, but overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will come again when its not raining and would definitely stay with you again.

Review 12:Breakfast staff not very Helpful, when asked if it was possible to have Hot milk the reply was, I don't do Hot milk, barely warm and too strong coffee with cold milk. The shower area needs grab handles for the disabled, a towel rail and a shelf for your toiletries basic but obvious needs. The bedroom would also benefit with two comfortable chairs.

Review 13:Good location, great food and decent Beer this trip, I don't like hoppy beer.

Review 14:The décor in the room was very tired. The bed was uncomfortable. the facilities in the room were minimal. The shower was small and poorly maintained despite the overall size of the bathroom being quite large. The room appeared clean but there was an unpleasant odour. Breakfast was adequate but again a strange odour in the dinning room. It was pouring with rain and therefore having to go outside to get to the dinning room as not good.

Review 15:Not much

Review 16:The feeling of urgency to get breakfast quickly out of the way. No communication with the waitress . At times on the rude side.

Review 17:Excellent hospitality food lovely and plenty of it. The general atmosphere was great, staff more than helpful and the surroundings perfect.

Review 18:The room was small and not as comfortable as we had expected.

Review 19:The menu was extensive. The portions were good and the meals were fantastic. Continental breakfast was a feast.

Review 20:The beds had cheap crunchy mattresses on them which was the only real let down.

Review 21:Location and staff, non complicated approach. Food was excellent, portions generous and service also excellent.

Review 22:The hotel does not really have any lounge area as all the spaces in the pub were taken by those eating. Also it's a bit too far for a walk into Skipton

Review 23:The hotel is really a restaurant/pub and very popular over a week end. Food quality and value for money very good. Wonderful views over the moors.

Review 24:Excellent location for our trip, in a quiet and pretty setting with nice views. Lovely staff, excellent food, nice beer. Ample spacious car park. 2 minutes by car into Skipton (£4 in a taxi) Our rooms were plain, functional, not especially inviting or cosy, but they were clean and everything worked, so no complaints.

Review 25:Below standard outdated rooms. Poor organisation. Breakfast too early especially for a Sunday with little time to eat 8-9am.

Review 26:Location was beautifull and handy for skipton center, staff were smiley and helpfull.

Review 27:Bed very lumpy. Only coat hanger rail to unload - no shelves or drawers in bedroom or bathroom. Not sure that I mean 3/6 full smileys to mean fabulous.

Review 28:Most things.

Review 29:The craven. heifer is a little tired and space is at a premium when dining it would be good to have somewhere to enjoy a relaxing drink after ameal

Review 30:Outstanding. Food rooms are functional and clean, staff are friendly and helpful

Review 31:The main light in the bedroom was too dim. If we were in there anytime wanting to read a map or research our route/places to visit we would be pleased to have a much brighter light.

Review 32:we liked everything except the bedroom light. the food was excellent as were the staff and we were made welcome and size of meals accommodated. we will stay again.

Review 33:Really pleased with this place. We came up from Surrey to do Land Rover experience day at Broughton Hall and this Inn was close by. The staff were excellent and food was great. Wonderful views too.

Review 34:The lack of a comfortable chair to sit and relax in during the evening before going to bed.

Review 35:The casual nature of the place and the ease of obtaining an evening meal

Review 36:location, food and management and staff were all excellent. The surrounding countryside was stunning. The rooms are compact but well designed and very comfortable.

Review 37:Not a dislike but a suggestion...bathroom could do with a hook on door and a shelf.

Review 38:We had a lovely night at The Craven Heifer - the welcome was warm and friendly...evening meal lovely and breakfast was just the ticket. Staff very friendly and obliging.

Review 39:No residents lounge. Bar closing at 10.00pm. Rooms could benefit from an update! Road is quite busy - noise.

Review 40:Cherry staff. Helpful and pleasant. An extremely popular pub/restaurant. Make sure you book a table if you want to eat.

Review 41:Excellent location with easy access to larger towns etc., clean comfortable accommodation, friendly polite staff, first class menu. This is the third time we have stayed at this venue and will definitely use again.

Review 42:Breakfast could be better an wifi wasnt very good in the public areas there was no wifi in the bedrooms excellent location

Review 43:Private rooms and welcoming staff good location

Review 44:Only minor niggle was the lack of soap dish/ shelf in the shower!

Review 45:The food was some of the best pub food I've ever had, well presented, quick service for a busy Friday night and superbly cooked. Beer was also excellent

Review 46:The staff were very welcoming and friendly The room was clean and comfortable The food was lovely and professionally presented. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and recommend it to anyone.

Review 47:Our room (18) smelt strongly of damp. The bed was hard & uncomfortable. The alarm clock had been set for 8am. Continental breakfast only which was cereal, toast & hot beverage.

Review 48:Beautiful location & surroundings within easy reach of Skipton.

Review 49:Beds frames a bit primitive. Breakfast ok but could have been fresher.

Review 50:Beautiful views over countryside yet only a short drive into Skipton. Staff friendly.

Review 51:Entrance door slams shut loud enough to disturb sleep. Wi fi only available in the bar area, so impossible to do any online work in your room. Breakfast finishes at 9. 10 would be a lot more convenient for those seeking a restful break.

Review 52:Cheerful helpful staff. Room very clean

Review 53:Both us and other guests were offered opportunity to buy drinks before bar was closed nearly 2 hours early being reassured we would be able to stay in the pub to drink them (with our guests) and then asked to leave a little over 5 mins after. Wifi connected easily but not to the internet. "Landlady" had seriously stroppy attitude to other guests and staff, generally lumping around and being unreasonable. Reminded me of a stroppy kid. Different "Landlady" and the place would be much more pleasant. In date UHT milk left in sunny room window was seriously off.

Review 54:All staff we met were very pleasant except "landlady" who had really bad attitude every time we saw or heard her. Breakfast was very good. Plenty of easy free parking close to rooms.

Review 55:The rooms are tired and basic, the beds we had were very old and had a board between the base and mattress, the ensuite was very basic. Only one plug point available for use, kettle, hairdryer, bedside lamps all hardwired. Breakfast terrible, was supposed to be Continental which was disappointing anyway, but it wasn't even a good continental - no meats, fresh bread/rolls - just a croissant each and a few slices of basic bread toasted.

Review 56:The location and the exterior of the hotel/restaurant are stunning.

Review 57:The curtains were poor quality and did not have blackout lining. Basic but clean and perfect for an overnight stay. I wouldn't want to stay any longer

Review 58:The hotel was ideally situated to skipton for an overnight stay.

Review 59:Rooms very tired, in much need of upgrading. Staff very friendly but not very professional in the way guests are treated. Guests needs not necessarily given priority

Review 60:Excellent food

Review 61:Not a bad experience as such but our rom was on the dark side. I wouldn't like to be there on a really cold day as the heaters were not "on and towels next day were still damp.

Review 62:Extremely good and friendly staff. Excellent food.

Review 63:Only one power socket in bedroom so not easy to use re-chargers

Review 64:Very friendly welcome and nice evening meal Plenty of parking space and ground floor room had easy access

Review 65:Landlady quite willing to take our well earned money but her customerservice skills totally unacceptable and insulting to her guests. Closedthe bar to residents at 9.30 on a Saturday night as she had been upsince 6 and said her name was above the door and she can close when shewants. Do not recommend lining her pockets! Spoilt our weekend so leftearly and didn't stay for Sunday lunch. She won't be botheredthough as 10,000 other people will come to eat there!! Just hope it isher day off when you go!!

Review 66:Great location and excellent food. Accommodation very basic butadequate and clean. One nice friendly bubbly barmaid who we thank forher service.

Review 67:Very damp room, threadbare carpet (holes!), ancient furniture, desperately needs money spending on it. OK, it is a cheap hotel, but there is a limit!

Review 68:Good location. Friendly staff

Review 69:We were allocated room number six, unfortunately, every time someone came in or out of the anex the automatic door closer allowed the door to bang shut very loudly. As we were the only room near the front door it would seem that only this room is affected.

Review 70:The staff seemed to be genuinely enjoying their job.

Review 71:We were shocked that when we arrived at the Craven Heiffer Inn on the Friday afternoon, they did not have any record of our booking through Booking.com despite my having paid £40.00 deposit to you well in advance. They could only accommodate us on the Friday night but not the Saturday as there were no rooms available so rang around other hotels to find us accommodation for the second night. It was a total disaster week-end but as the Craven Heifer were very humble about the whole matter, I felt that it was not the fault of Booking.com. I think there was an administration error on behalf of the Craven Heiffer but I cannot be sure!!

Review 72:Not in walking distance of the town centre

Review 73:Stayed for the skipton tough mudder event, it was a good location to get to the venue from. The pub was nice with great food, a nice view from the beer garden and a selection of real ales. Nice staff too.

Review 74:Although there was no cooked breakfast, there was still plenty of choice and we didn't feel hard done by!

Review 75:The staff were lovely and we had an excellent evening meal.

Review 76:A cooked breakfast would have made a huge difference for us. WiFi although free we couldn't connect

Review 77:Loved the stay. Staff all very friendly we ate there food was lovely everything was good and really enjoyed our stay.

Review 78:the room had not been properly serviced,ie, stool covered in hair, mirror had not been cleaned, heating came on for only half hour the first day,no cup/glass to rinse mouth out in bathroom and lastly we had asked for a twin room, and got a double, generally it was the lack of attention to detail that spoiled the visit.

Review 79:Lunch in bar was very good

Review 80:Wi-Fi never worked - however, it was nice to have a complete break from the internet

Review 81:Amazing views - we saw the most incredible rainbows. Away from the centre but close enough to walk. Very friendly, happy staff.

Review 82:The lack of a shelf above the bathroom sink was a bit awkward as we had nowhere to put our toothbrushes etc! Also, there was nowhere within the shower cubicle either to place shower gel & shampoo apart from on the floor! A handrail of some sort whilst getting in & out of the shower would be a great help as it was very slippy! We had to grab onto the bathroom door handle to get out of the shower. Not ideal as I struggle with arthritis and was very afraid of falling. Only having one socket in our room did make it difficult to charge two mobile phones. The owners seemed to be refurbishing so hopefully they will take these suggestions on board.

Review 83:Liked the location of this hotel. Extremely quiet & peaceful at night. Close to the lovely town of Skipton, and on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales. Breakfast each morning was plentiful and good value! The staff, especially the owners daughter looked after us very well.

Review 84:Nowhere comfortable for residents to sit & relax 'Continental breakfast' comprised good selection of cereals & fruits, but only limited selection of cheese, and no meats/boiled eggs, or rolls

Review 85:Friendly staff - and it's in Yorkshire

Review 86:I did not like a plastic stick instead of a spoon for my tea and coffee in the room. There were thin plastic cups in stead of glasses when cleaning our teeth. No draws to put clothes in, only a wardrobe

Review 87:Staff gave me the spoon and glasses when asked for. There were a few minor items that could have been better and could easily be rectified.

Review 88:We were 2 adults plus 1 child...we were in the bungalow behind the pub and allocated 2 rooms...the double room smelt very badly of mould so that we could not use it...large bathroom with no shower, small bathroom with not so easy to use shower...

Review 89:The location was great..the evening meal was good...and the staff friendly...

Review 90:Lovely location friendly helpful staff basic clean room ideal for an overnight stay or a couple of days whilst enjoying the beauty of the surrounding area

Review 91:Extra seating in the room would have been appreciated plus choice of a hot breakfast

Review 92:Pleasant ,clean room.Good food ,well cooked.Lovely views, pleasant and obliging staff.all in all a happy experiance.

Review 93:No electric sockets to plug curling iron into only one by the door. Hairdrier and kettle are wired into the wall. No shelf for soap in the shower.

Review 94:Good location for the town. Good parking.

Review 95:The room was basic, but very clean. The staff were friendly and efficient. A continental breakfast is included in the price and there was so much to choose from. Everything was fresh and appetising. Will stay again.

Review 96:The only thing for me was the WiFi was intermittent every day. Other than that, all was good.

Review 97:I really loved the location, the views surrounding are beautiful. The outdoor seating area was well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 98:ALL OF IT:- THE FRIENDLY AND JOVIAL STAFF AND THE TWO WAY BANTER. THE ACCOMMODATION. THE AREA AND AAAAAH!- THE FOOD, WE ENJOYED THE VENISON FROM THE SPECIAL BOARD AND THE GENEROUS CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST ON OFFER IN THE MORNING. WE HOPE TO BE BACK IN THE AREA TO HAVE A GOOD LOOK AROUND IN THE NEAR FUTURE. OUR THANKS GO TO ALL THE STAFF (PLEASE DON'T LOSE YOUR COOKS). THANK YOU EVERYBODY.

Review 99:The room was basic and felt like a cheap motel. Even though it had been cleaned the bathroom seemed dirty, my husband didn't want to use the shower.

Review 100:The food was wonderful. The staff brilliant.

Review 101:Can't think of anything.value

Review 102:Accommodation was comfortable. Very good value. Carvery was delicious. Location was stunning. Saw lapwings and curlews. Very relaxing stay.

Review 103:Absolutley fab stay..attended a wedding at cracoe village hall so perfect location ..rooms perfect for what we needed ..breakfast was lovely with more selection than we expected.. Staff wonderful !!!!!!!!!!! I would highly recommend and have every intention of returning .

Review 104:we stayed in room 19 at the back of the premises which we were practically in the cellar, having to tip toe round barrels n kegs. Also the room smelt damp

Review 105:the staff were amazing, hospitality excellent, food great

Review 106:Decor was a bit jaded and bathrooms could do with modernising. But they were clean.

Review 107:Views, location, cleanliness and breakfast. Stayed 2 nights and rooms were cleaned both days. Continental breakfast was great and a change from the usual fry up. Plenty of fruit toast (choice of white or brown) and croisants.

Review 108:Rude staff in correct information no apology staff could not care less rooms very 1970s not good no wardrobe or drawers just an open rail

Review 109:Close to where we wanted to be

Review 110:They accommodated our large family easily, gave us a good table for dinner and then for breakfast. Lots of variety of breakfast cereals including wheat free and foods suitable for those intolerant of lactose. Lovely fresh fruit salad and a creamy yoghourt available. Rooms were fresh and clean.

Review 111:The breakfast was ample, but a cooked option would have been better

Review 112:As two lads sharing a twin room and visiting the dales to road cycle around the area we found that the cavern heifer inn was in the perfect area for us, room 10 also had ample room to secure our bikes. The service was very good and food is of top quality.

Review 113:This hotel/pub sits on top of a hill with great views over the beautiful Yorkshire hills. We thought the staff were brilliant - extremely friendly and helpful. The pub serves the best pub food I've had in ages and ages. Skipton town centre is a two minute drive away.

Review 114:Front door at room entrance needs a soft shut mechanism. Afraid people can't shut doors without slamming them. Think in this age wifi should be available in bedrooms and not just the bar area.

Review 115:Food superb in restaurant and not bad pricing. Most excellent beer well kept. Great staff. Comfy rooms.

Review 116:Room rather small and lacking a bit in comfort. Ordinarily wouldn't have been an issue but diabolical weather prevailed. Not the fault of the hotel.

Review 117:Evening food excellent.Staff helpful and friendly.

Review 118:Disappointing meal on third night as carvery on and a great lot of people in restaurant. Ordered off main menu and veg still raw, confusion over side dish and when arrived not completely cooked

Review 119:quiet and relaxing and nice food first 2 nights

Review 120:Poor TV choice - only 4 channels available. They were BBC1&2 ,Moviemix and Moviesformen. Why not channels available on Freesat or similar?

Review 121:Price and service

Review 122:I had been lead to understand wi-fi was available however no mention of it was given in the room details.

Review 123:Good beer, good food and portion size incredible. Watch out for exploding Prosecco corks though. Young waiter handled one heading at speed extremely well.

Review 124:Bedrooms could do with updating...they were a little tired looking. It would be good if there was more than one plug socket in room. The option of a cooked breakfast would have been good

Review 125:Staff were very helpful and friendly

Review 126:Bathroom need upgrading plus could do with a nice set of drawers for small items

Review 127:Plesent staff room need updating bed comfy but the bathroom could do with upgrading

Review 128:No WiFi to the rooms, only one 13A socket available. Need new lamp shade.

Review 129:Liked that a class Restaurant was only next door that served excellent food. Comfortable stay, 15 min walk from Skipton Town Centre.

Review 130:There was nothing really that we did not like

Review 131:We liked everything about the place, the staff were very friendly the food was excellent and the stay altogether was most enjoyable. This is the second time we have been and will be back again

Review 132:Some body drunk made lots of noise in the night. It was nice of staff to apologise in the morning.

Review 133:Food was excellent. Staff very helpful. Good size room.

Review 134:Before booking it said breakfast included. After booking it said continental breakfast included. English breakfast was offered at £8.99 each. Room was very dated.. Rating 4/10

Review 135:Leaving in the morning

Review 136:Our room was cold when we arrived , the heating was only put on when we got there & in my opinion it should if been already in . The bathroom door needed attention it didn't stay closed , & the hot water tap needs repairing too . The wardrobe side nearest the bathroom door also needs to be made less as I banged into it several times

Review 137:We liked the welcome when we arrived , the food was good , as I work for the FSA i was happy with the overall quantity , quality of the food as well as the price .
