Island Hotel Katarina descritpion

Hotel Katarina is situated on a wonderful island across from the historic center of Rovinj. The island, sharing its name with the hotel, is the second largest island within the Rovinj Archipelago.
It features abundant Mediterranean vegetation, promenades and 19th-century parks boasting magnificent views of the town, of the Zlatni Rt forest and the rest of the Rovinj Archipelago. It is also distinctive,as the remains of an old castle were integrated into the hotel building, giving it a touch of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

Reviews for Island Hotel Katarina

Review 1:The only minus is that the bathtub was a little bit old, but this fact did not affect our overall opinion of the hotel ;)

Review 2:The hotel is located on a beautiful island near Rovinj and surronded by sea and palm trees. The staff was very helpful, the breakfasts and dinners were very good. Boat transport to the city worked fine. We were on our engagement trip and we did get an upgrade to a larger suite and inside was a cold champagne waiting for us :) Great surprise. We definately want to come back to Hotel Island Katarina!

Review 3:Last week of the season which we weren't made aware of . All facilities on the island hotel had closed down except pool area which was desolate. Very little alcohol available could only have what was left. One morning no tea available at breakfast and was ltold to have green tea or coffee neither of which we drink. So all in all although the position was great it did not make up for the lack of amenities. We often book through yourselves but will think again as this hotel was obviously not checked fully.

Review 4:Position was great.

Review 5:Rooms are awful- old worn carpet, soiled sofa, banged-up furniture, very small, and strong smell of cleaning agent, shower wa the size of a coffin with a strange pipe running up the inside corner.

Review 6:The remodeling had been done on the cheap, down to the paper napkins in the dining room, and the ping pong table in the once-lovely ballroom. Our room, once nice-sized, had a wall down the middle - one side was our bedroom, the other side was a tiny bathroom and a small space with two bunk beds. when we checked in we were told we had an "upgrade".

Review 7:Beautiful old hotel, very clean, lovely view, wonderfully quiet at night.

Review 8:Ferry boat to and from the island only goes once an hour dinner buffet is not as good as breakfast, you should go to the city

Review 9:Beautiful island, good breakfast

Review 10:No bad experiences at all.

Review 11:Only this hotel on the island, quite big area, and it feels like the whole island is in your possession. No problems with transportation to town - just 10 minutes by boat and you are in the city. Tasty food and very friendly atmosphere.

Review 12:Poor instructions on how to get there wasted a lot of time on the night of our arrival. Noise form disco of mainland kept us awake some nights

Review 13:The location on a little island close to Rovinj is idyllic. Swimming in the sea and in the hotel pools is excellent

Review 14:Jacuzzi cold - warm water would be better, stairs to go to the pool (not good to come with a baby)

Review 15:nice and familiar hotel, beautiful pool area (salt water), nice beach areas, excellent breakfast/restaurant buffet, good for travelling with children/babies (ecxept pool area for babies because of stairs), we were upgraded and had a suite

Review 16:No bad experience but could do with air conditioning in the rooms

Review 17:The location on it's own island The facilities on offer The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff Excellent buffet breakfast The pool area Regular and prompt free boat taxis

Review 18:Best location in Rovinj in our opinion as the hotel is on its own island overlooking the old town. Very peaceful setting away from the crowds and a better breakfast selection than any other hotel we have stayed in.

Review 19:No A/C in room we got but asked to be moved and got upgraded People leaving towels on chairs at pool long before they arrived to pool area.

Review 20:Pool area and location

Review 21:To go up in the elevator, you needed to walk up a half flight of stairs. The wifi in the room was spotty.

Review 22:We were expecting no a/c, so we were pleasantly surprised to find that our wing had been recently upgraded with this option. If we had known, we would have booked an extra night. The pools are huge. I swam in the morning and I was practically alone, swimming laps through a series of channels that linked one set of pools with another. There is a large shallow pool suitable for kids and a large whirlpool. The staff was efficient and kind. We had a great room 336 with a balcony and a view of the old city. the room also had a sofa and desk. It was a refreshing, luxurious place to be. The island had lovely vistas and nice places to walk. The breakfast and dinner buffets were delicious. We ate too much food.

Review 23:No aircondtion ! only some rooms have aircondition !!! old bathroom bad wifi bad bed No Businesshotel Restaurant offers tourist meals

Review 24:view,location

Review 25:Fantastic island location with stunning views. We had a very relaxing week and enjoyed the pool, strolls round the island and reading on the balcony. We had a standard room which was a bit dated but fine and a lovely sea view through trees to Rovinj. Food good, lots of choice. We used the 5minute boat trip often to mooch round Rovinj (quaint with lots of narrow cobbled streets) and caught a bus to Porec.

Review 26:Boattrips to and from at fixed hourly times, whereas crossing only takes 5 minutes. Hotel is clearly a bit older (though works fine!)

Review 27:Brilliant location. Great (not too busy!) swimming pool with SALT water. Nice views over the small island itself and of Rovinj

Review 28:No Air Condition in standard double rooms. This is hoeless in the middle of July with almost 40 degrees C. There were not any fans in the hotel and they did not manage to require any from stores etc. The rooms seems a bit outdated. Considering the price per night one would expect more.

Review 29:The location is fantastic. Close to Rovinj - the boat took only a few minutes.

Review 30:In the standard room there's no airconditioning!!!!! Crazy hot inside! The room is maximum 2 star rate. I paid 215 Euro per night for this very bad comfort!!! This value could be around 60 euros!! The bathroom is ugly.

Review 31:Location of the hotel is perfect. The park is very nice. The ship to the city is good. The pool is correct.

Review 32:- shuttle to parking with angry older driver - rooms should take a small reconstruction, mainly bathroom

Review 33:+ hotel crew + beaches + various and flavourful breakfasts and dinners + kids friendly hotel + island itself

Review 34:No indoor shower facility for guests who were having to catch a late flight and we're unable to get a late check out because hotel fully booked. Free wifi difficult to pick up with mobile phone, tablet received signal better. Room 324 bathroom dated. No tea/coffee making facility in rooms. No shop to buy sun lotion, after sun snacks etc. Last boat from Rovinj ti island Katarina was 00:30 which is far too early. Pitch and put/ table tennis area very tired and shabby looking.

Review 35:Staff were very helpful, sea views, secluded coves around the islands.

Review 36:An excellent, pretty romantic position with view of the old city centre and the huge tower of St. Euphemia church, just across the sea, reachable by a regular water transfer, but in a "secured distance", practically not disturbed by the busy night life of the Rovinj city. A very nice facility areal with obvious care to every detail. Great swimming pool and associated facilities, well prepared access to the sea with all necessary musts such as bars, restaurants, (sun)bath equipment etc. A real island of peace, sun and sea, and total summer relax for those not interested in a busy music bars and crazy karaokes until morning hours...

Review 37:There is no airconditioning in the non-family rooms, which means it can get horribly hot. The breakfast is said to be free, but for fresh orange juice one has to pay. If you're someone who appreciates small, not a too touristy place; look further.

Review 38:The hotel is located on an island with a perfect view on Rovinj. The island is reached by boat that drives once per hour.

Review 39:no air con in our room, though it was cool if you left the curtains shut all the time but with the great view we had it was hard to do!

Review 40:Pool area was spotless with great views right beside the sea

Review 41:The hotel is set is wonderful grounds that are very well maintained. The pool is so clean and with a lovely view of the sea. Room was cleaned daily with fresh sheets and towels. Reception staff were helpful

Review 42:Off site parking and shuttles were frustrating though well operated. Service at the hotel was very capable but rarely friendly.

Review 43:Views of Rovinj were excellent. Access to recreational facilities of the island was great. The experience of taking a boat to the hotel was fun.

Review 44:Parking is quite far out of town, so just park your car and forget about driving around during your stay

Review 45:The greatest views of Rovinj Lovely island for casual stroll with lots of small beaches Very friendly and helpful hotel staff Boat to mainland leaves every hour

Review 46:Coffee/tea making facilities in the room would be good. Wifi weak in our room.

Review 47:We were treated like royalty during our stay. We were provided with an outstanding room with a great view. the staff were highly attentive to our needs and provided a lovely bottle of wine when they realised one of us had a birthday during the stay. Highly recommended.

Review 48:The only suggestion I would make is to have more shade near the bar at the pool.

Review 49:The walking trails, many options for swimming in the sea and the pool area was great too.

Review 50:Dinner at the hotel restaurant is buffet style and isn't worth the price considering what's available in Rovinj. We did not get a chance to go to the Bistro Plaza though so that may be a better option. There is what I would consider a "convenience markup" on beverages from the bars but they are easily avoided by planning ahead and bringing some from a mainland store.

Review 51:The location was everything you could ask for. Cliffs to jump off of, paved rock outcrops for sunbathing and a pea gravel beach. There is a great set of salt water pools if the ocean isn't your thing or you have small kids.

Review 52:Not solved the correct transfer to and from the island, no timetable of the free boat, from mouth to mouth timetable means - 5 min earlier or 10 min later. At arrival we was waiting cca an hour for the boat, with a travelling frequency of 30 min. The boat stoped on the island not in the regular port, the heigh difference was more than half a meter beetwen the board of the boat and the pier, we must jump down from 50-70 cm (cca. 3-4 stairsteps) with the luggages. Very wrong solution is the car parking. Car-port is 2-3 km from the port of the boat, out of Rovinj, not guarded, you must always wait for the lonely bus to transfer there or bring back. Room is poor furnished, absolut not cosy. Bathroom is wonderful, but shower cabin is very small, door of it is strait (I'm 100 kg and 187 cm high) and was difficult to enter into the cabin. The bathroom was full (more hundred) of ants (yes, ants!). At the breakfast you must pay for the fresh pressed orange, but it is not notified (price was 15 Kuna). I had the feeling, that we are much more a captive of the bad solutions as a happy traveller on a nice holiday in a great hotel.

Review 53:Wonderful building on a small island, very comfortable bed, wonderful park around the building. Very good breakfast.

Review 54:10 points go to: Stefanie at pool bar and ladies at reception who helped us to organize a great birthday party dinner in a very good restaurant! Thank you!

Review 55:Accomodaiton on an island brings a logistical hassle for coming and going, if you plan to do day-trips: 1) shuttle boat runs only one time per hour; 2) hotel's parking lot is far away (not walking distance!) from the port and requires using a minibus. We ended up wasting a lot of precious vacation time because of this. Room inside is OK but nothing luxurious, shower cabinet very small. Room gives impression of poor maintenance: wackly tables, lacking soap in the dispenser, shower does not drain well. Mostly elderly guests. Nice to stay here for one time but would not stay here again.

Review 56:Great view on Rovinj from the balcony, peaceful setting on an island. Excellent breakfast with lots of choices.

Review 59:The bathroom was small and the shower stall was barely big enough for one person. The shower enclosure was in a need of repairs. We were a bit unlucky as there was some music festival going on. probably in Rovinj, during our stay and the loud "noise" went on all night and most of the day. The only poor aspect of the island are the rocky "beaches".

Review 60:Great location. The hotel is situated on an island, large enough to go on substantial walks. View of Old Rovinj was breathtaking. Room was comfortable and the food was quite good. The buffet style breakfast offered wide variety of choices.

Review 61:The office on the harbour side and the quality of service provided by the staff there is atrocious. I can only assume that this is some sort of agency arrangement, as I cannot believe the Maistra Hotel Group would allow their own employees to be so poorly managed. The information offered to guests upon arrival and departure is zero, and if enquiries are made as to the ferry or parking arrangements the minimum of information is offered in a most begrudging manner. The amount of time spent standing around at the beginning and end of the hotel stay is sufficient to prevent me recommending the hotel to other guests. Upon departure and after a considerable wait on the quayside for transport back to our parked cars, a taxi seating five eventually arrived and a scrum then took place amongst the waiting guests for seats, with no regard for who had been waiting longest and no pretence at management. Those who failed to gain a seat were just left standing on the quayside. I really feel most strongly about this shambles and that Maistra Group should take urgent steps to shake up this office as the effect on their business and reputation is likely to be most damaging. This is after all, where a guests initial impression of the hotel is formed at the commencement of a stay We will not stay again solely for this reason.

Review 62:The location is fabulous, the Island setting, views and restaurant buffets all excellent. We had a standard balcony room which was clean, with a decent bathroom and bed. The staff at the hotel were also polite and helpful. I think a bit more could be made of the bar area, but no doubt other choices are available on the Island in high season. BUT.........

Review 63:No wifi in the room. There was continuous annoying music from somewhere (we were not able to locate the source, most probanlx there was a techno fest)

Review 64:Location, friendly staff, free parking, breakfast

Review 65:Our extended family really enjoyed our stay on the island and frequent trips to Rovinj. The separation from the bustle was Rovinj nice as were the spectacular views of the city. The boat shuttle to the city each hour was on-time and provided beautiful views. The entire family enjoyed the great breakfast buffet, large pool complex and walking trails. We also liked the island beaches although rocky. My kids loved swimming with goggles and watching the fish in the clear, blue water. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating and the rooms, while not luxurious, were clean and perfect for our needs. I would not hesitate to stay again or recommend the hotel to other visitors.

Review 66:Agree with previous comments that boat should be more regular, as can get very busy and delayed at peak times especially when visitors are arriving/leaving island. May benefit from having a small shop selling drinks and other essentials rather than a bar selling water at bar prices!

Review 67:Excellent swimming pool. Good breakfast selection (can't comment on dinner as stayed B and B only), secluded location within easy access of main resort.

Review 68:Nothing worth mentioning only lots of Mosquitos day and night so get a good insect repellent.

Review 69:We loved everything about the hotel its uniqueness , tranquility, cleanliness, excellent facilities and best of all the entertainment staff especially the mini club staff who looked after and entertained the children very well. We stayed half board and the food was excellent, the chefs and waiters were always friendly. The family room was perfect, on the ground floor with a terrace overlooking the gardens and the maid cleaned daily. We enjoyed the aqua aerobics which were always fun and the pools were very well maintained with enough sunbeds for all guests. The bistro food was excellent for lunchtime snacks. The children enjoyed the boat ride to and from the island and the hotel offers free trips to red island and tours of rovinj town on different days. Great free wifi only available in your room. Thanks to all the staff and guests for a fantastic and memorable holiday.

Review 70:There are no beaches on this island however like the rest of the Rovinj area large slabs of rocks are at the waters edge so you can enter the sea from one of these.

Review 71:What an amazing find this wonderful hotel turned out to be. It is situated on its own little island which is approximately 500 metres from the main town of Rovinj and has it’s own complimentary ferry for residents which runs every half hour. The hotel which was originally the private home of an aristocrat has a very pleasant colonial type feel. The swimming pool area has three different intertwined pools for all abilities however we preferred to sunbathe and read our books under one of the many trees on a sun bed on one of the grassed areas which lead down to the sea where there is even a handrail straight into the sea for those that need it. The small island has paved areas all the way round the island and not far from the hotel is bar/bistro by the water’s edge where you can enjoy a snack. The main hotel restaurant provides an excellent breakfast with all manner of varieties of cuisine. Although we were only booked in for bed and breakfast we did try the restaurant later in the week and found the selection and price far better value for money than the restaurants on the mainland. Walking round the other side of the island you come across another bar area with settees where you can enjoy an open air evening cocktail looking towards the town of Rovinj. All the pathways are lit but taking a torch for your return journey to the hotel is not a bad idea. All the rooms face the sea and ours faced the town which was delightful to watch the numerous boats passing by on there way to the harbour. The double room we had was more than adequate and was clean and tidy. The fact it doesn’t have air conditioning and has an older style TV may be the only reason it doesn’t have as many stars as it deserves. The great unsung heroes of this hotel are the staff who are polite attentive yet unobtrusive and go out of their way to ensure you have a great stay. We had a truly enjoyable week’s holiday in July at the Katarina Hotel.

Review 72:Boat service too infrequent and at peak times overloaded. Lack of information provided at check-in re island facilities. Unsupervised children at the pool. Beds closely packed around the pool. Non-residents can use the island (not the pool) which makes it rather busy during the day.

Review 73:Beautiful, well-tended grounds. Exclusive feel on own island. Room- comfortable and with fabulous view of church on Rovinj. Large and attractive pool area. Choice of lovely places to sit and admire the views/enjoy the peace. Had no air con but did not need it for our 2 weeks in July (north facing room).

Review 74:It could do with more than 1 boat an hour as it got very crowded and a fair bit lf waiting around. But the boat staff were very kind and helpful.

Review 75:The staff were helpful and friendly. The swimming pool and access to the beach was easy. Each day the cleaner came and made such a fine job of cleaning the Partment. The acqua aerobics was fun too. We will stay here again on our visits to Rovigno.

Review 76:Lots of children. Taking a boat to get off the island gets a bit old and constraining after a few days. But for a few days it is the perfect location.

Review 77:The perfect holiday spot for a few days of relaxation. Excellent breakfast. Can use the pool even at night.

Review 78:nothing

Review 79:Everything about this hotel was fab the views from were ever you were in the hotel were great. You had a good choice of food both at breakfast and dinner.Bliss I will be going again. No way is it 2/3 star.

Review 80:That we did not stay longer!

Review 81:One of the most unexpectedly more beautiful than we could have imagined. We loved every minute of our stay, only wish it could have been longer!

Review 82:Food facilities need to be upgraded. Rooms are basic but comfortable enough.

Review 83:Location, location, location it says it all.

Review 84:The end of season feeling! The very small bar and lack of entertainment options.

Review 85:The beautiful setting and the view over Rovinj.

Review 86:Beautiful buildings in an elegant and romantic garden setting, big pool and stunning views of the old city of Rovinj. Great breakfast buffet.

Review 87:The hotel location very good with beautiful views and very clear sea. Excellent breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 88:Fantastic location, large sea-water swimming pool with access to the beach, splendid breakfasts, hotel building and park

Review 89:Perfect location, beautiful building, great food.

Review 90:Boat transfer.

Review 91:Excellent view, nice stuff, great breakfast, Worth for money!

Review 92:Not much happening at night time

Review 93:Breakfast, location and the beaches surrounding

Review 94:None.

Review 95:Excellent view, spa, nature and food.

Review 96:Seagulls!!!! Jellyfishes... :( Boot transport once in hour... :(

Review 97:The staff, the location

Review 98:A-la-carte restaurant could offer more variety.

Review 99:Welcome surprise as a room upgrade with an amazing view of Rovinj!

Review 100:Food rather poor quality No airconditioning

Review 101:Setting

Review 102:Location & grounds

Review 103:Excellent breakfast. Stunning views. Well kept grounds. Lots of opportunity for swimming and relaxing.

Review 104:Fabulous location for exploring the area. Good links to mainland. Beautiful island. Lovely hotel in an idyllic setting.

Review 105:n.a.

Review 106:- especially location is very special - great view on city Rovinj over the bay

Review 107:Coffee Pool bar could be better

Review 108:Location Style Garden Pools

Review 109:Ferry only once an hour; seagull noise from nests on island

Review 110:spacious room; very competent and friendly staff

Review 111:the room smelled like rotten wood, the food was rather bad than good, the room was not well isolated, I could hear my neighbour snore!

Review 112:great location, great nature, great staff, beautiful place

Review 113:Though it's the most luxurious accommodation on my travels, I wouldn't recommend it to solo travellers. It's a beautiful spot, fantastic breakfast and very scenic. However, not much chance to mingle.

Review 114:Standard rooms definitely needs some repairs and renovations, especially in the bathroom. Summer without A/C must be hard (in September fan was sufficient). The biggest problem: annoying and reckless smoking of the smokers. As non-smokers who came to enjoy fresh air at the seashore, we were suffering from smoke a lot: at the balkony (smoke was penetrating even to the room, coming from the adjacent balcony), by swimmimg pool (even though the area was non-smoking, waiters were willing to bring the ashtray to the smokers!!) and during the breakfast and dinners (if you were sitting outside, not in the dining hall). Some waiters were not very polite and helpful, they need a special training in kindness and willingness towards the guests. Another problem: slippery entry to the swimming pool: many people slipped and fell, the staff was repeatedly informed about the problem, but no action was held in this regard, no one was really interested and ready to make an improvement.

Review 115:Beautiful location, peaceful and natural place, nice old building with very nice public interior. Very good food. Very nice and clean swimming pool. Most of guests were older German seniors, there were just few kids - thanks to this fact the place was really calm, no noise.

Review 116:There were weddings on both of the Saturdays we stayed (probably due to the romantic location!). One of the weddings we found particularly noisy and went on until 3am! However we did complain to the manager who dealt with this in a appropriate way and we were left happy with the outcome.

Review 117:Fantastic location - getting the boat to and from the mainland wasn't a problem as it was always punctual and the crew were helpful and polite. Really beautiful hotel - extremely clean and kept very well. The views of the old town are incredible. Staff - all were helpful, polite and spoke excellent English. Value for money - it is hard to believe that this is only a 2* hotel as facilities, pool, room etc were all of a high standard

Review 118:-Sometimes you've to wait for boat or boat has some delay. Normallyevery half hour from Rovinj to Sveta Katarina island. Every whole hourfrom Katarina back to Rovinj town.- Lot's of seagulls on the island making noises in early morning ( at least during breathing season, june ) -No Netherlands TV channels, like BVN, in room -WiFi is not for free and have to be paid. -NO elevators but staff is frienly enough to carry by golfcar your suitcase to the hotel and even bring it in your room.

Review 119:Romatic atmosphere, beautiful pools with romantic bridges, rooms withheigh ceilings ( rooms are no chicken cages as in some other hotels ),quietness of the island after visiting Rovinj or other towns in region, eating on terras is possible near the pool. One of the 2 pools is goodfor young children ( not to deep ) There is also a jacuzzi but it'snot heated. There are beaches on the island. ( not sand but with smallrocks ) Possibilites for sport, table tennis, midget golf, volleybal, water cycle and canoe ( against some payment )

Review 120:The hotel and island are a bit run down, but not totally unexpected with the 2 star rating and price. The beds and pillows were not the most comfortable.

Review 121:The staff was very friendly and the ferry ran frequently enough to get to and from Rovinj. The food was good for a 2 star hotel and the views from the room were fantastic.

Review 122:Everything was very good except the fact, that the surroundings of the hotel could be a little more cleaner.

Review 123:Great location, romantic atmosphere, helpful and kind staff.

Review 124:The hotel rooms are quite small and very expensive relative to that. Also, the hourly ferry service is inconvenient and getting to theparking lot sometimes took 15-20 mins. The noise coming from Rovinjdiscos at night is very loud.

Review 125:The island is wonderful, there are no crowds, it is ideal for a few daysof seaside rest

Review 126:Hotel Katarina could have lots of improvements. It could easliy become a fabulous hotel with a bit more investment and improvement of services. The hotel could have a spa and gym, no massage or beauty treatments are available. I did not like the breakfast buffet both for the selectio of the food and the behaviour of other guests. The same for the evening buffet. We tried al la carte and that was not much better. With a little more effort and organization it could provide real service. Some things could be charged to the room others not which is strange. Also the coffee bar was only open first thing in the morning and last thing at night. So the addition of a proper bar with proper cocktials and coffee and snacks would be good.

Review 127:The situation of hotel Katarina is idyllic. The rooms with views over Rovinj with the waves lapping on the shore are a pleasure to stay in. The ferry to the mainland works very well and runs punctually so that being on an island was not an imposition but rather nice. The grill and Blue bar added variety to eating and drinking venues and it was easy to travel to the mailand to eat and for evening entertainment

Review 128:The rooms itself are outdated but they are clean.

Review 129:The location is incredible; on a small island only accessible by a small person ferry ( which leaves frequently). The view from the island on Rovinj is very nice.

Review 130:Once we arrived they did not give us a bed for our baby ( annoying butacceptable). Since we were booking throught booking.com they did notwant us to reserve for the following (frustrating, but we had anothernight in other hotel trought booking.com and it turned out to befantastic).

Review 131:Perfect position with wonderful view of the old town of Rovigno. Wellserviced by boat transfer every hour.room could be much better butbreakfast was good.

Review 132:wifi could be better

Review 133:fantastic location, great views

Review 134:Excellent location Nice pool and facilities. Very good breakfast. Helpful staff. I will stay there again
