Reviews for Pergola Hotel
Review 1:The hotel has a great location with fabulous sea view, near the centre but in a quiet area. The hospitality and warm welcome from the owner and the staff who go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. My home from home in Agios Nikolaus that I return to whenever I can and recommend without hesitation. Thankyou for another wonderful stay ! ☺
Review 2:Once you have put the fob into the slot to turn the electric on it hums like a stack of Marshall amplifiers, but, this is nothing compared to the racket that emanates from the roof all day and all nigbt which sounds like someone with a wobbleboard made of sheet metal making thunderstorm impressions every 5 or 10 minutes. (I was on the top floor).
Review 3:Would have rated the staff higher if the initial air conditioner problem had been sorted the first day when reported but the solution eventually offered to change to other rooms was very satisfactory
Review 4:simplicity, cleanliness & welcome
Review 5:Wifi was often disconnected, the room with the view to the sea had the view of the building opposite the street, not the sea (perhaps they should call it "room with partial view to the sea"). Inside my room there were ants everywhere and you could hear (and smell) everything from the bathroom next door because their skylights were common and poorly constructed.
Review 6:It's located near the centre of Aghios Nikolaos.
Review 7:My room was very cheap but at the opposite, very noisy (quite no isolation with rooms next door) and the bathroom not very clean
Review 8:In the middle of the town. 2 steps from the beach/ restaurants/ bars
Review 9:I didnt take breakfast because to my opinion what they offer for breakfast is not for 5€.
Review 10:Very close to the center. We found parking on the main street by the sea an left it there for all day. The room was very small. You have to walk the stairs up to the room plus the stairs from the main road by the sea. All together was like walking up to the seventh. I dont recomend it for people with any kind of moving disabilities.
Review 11:Ideal location near a beach and a couple of minutes walk to the bars and restaurants, very friendly and helpful staff, good free wifi the owner even gave me a lift to the bus station when I was leaving,
Review 12:The room was a little bit small, specifically the bathroom, but it had everything we needed and a stunning view
Review 13:The hotel is based in a prime location, close to everything and yet very quiet. It has a mesmerizing sea view and is close to a really nice tavern, supermarket, cafe's, etc. It is small but clean and very sweet. It has recently been renovated and provides a good, comfortable feeling. The owner Yannis and his staff were very nice, welcoming and helpful. Fantastic value for money. Highly recommended.
Review 14:Unfortunately there was no hairdryer in the room.
Review 15:Good location and great view from the balcony. You can actually see the sea from bed! Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Review 16:Windows did not have screens.
Review 17:Inexpensive. Very friendly family run. Pick up and drop off to Bus depot. Worth getting sea view which is very nice otherwise balcony might be useless.
Review 18:-Paper walls: listening the whole night to neighbours who snore, cough,go to the toilets and worse...- The promised room with a view, was with a view on the opposite appartment block. Very noisy too: impossible to keep the window open. Extra charge for a room with a REAL view, which was not in the agreement.
Review 19:Location
Review 20:There was no balcony even though it was included in the description. The owner offered to transfer us in another (and better) hotel for the same price the next day, and he did. Since we only stayed there for two nights, moving the second day was not very pleasant. Still a good effort by the owner.
Review 21:The location of the hotel is great, next to the sea and the most beatiful and graphic part of the town.
Review 22:We booked an apartment with sea view but we got 2 double rooms. The sea view was blocked by water systems on the roof of the building in the street. Also the shower did not work, cold water in the morning. Also parking was a challenge.
Review 23:The hotel is well located in the inner city
Review 24:Bathroom had foul odor that grew worse as humidity increased.
Review 25:Room accommodated 3 adults, great location, pleasant staff. Reasonable clean. Top floor room had tiny balcony with amazing view!
Review 26:We were 9 persons and we booked 2 appartments with sea view and one single room. Instead of that, we got one appartment with a (fantastic) sea view, and three double rooms. It was quite unfair, that part of us had really nice appartment and the other part no.. Staff doesn't speak english well enough.
Review 27:The view from our appartment was really excellent and fabulous.
Review 28:Although the stairs were not a problem for us, I do think this should be referred to in the property information.
Review 29:Loved the view from the balcony of the harbour and the fact that it was lage enough to sit and enjoy with a drink was an added bonus. Rooms were comfortable and adequately equipped and the breakfast was well worth paying extra for. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Review 30:The title tells it all. The hotel has such an unique warm and friendly atmosphere that it is easy to relax and enjoy your staying. I'm absolutely returning to this hotel, when I'l be back in Agios Nikolaos. Wifi in this hotel is excellent; fast and reliable.
Review 31:Location. Too steep path/steps from the harbour with shops and restaurants. Nothing to do in the area of the hotel.;
Review 32:owner drove us to bus station and market. Very hospitable.
Review 33:Very little really worth commenting on.really the faults were cosmetic, a handle missing off a wardrobe door and a kitchen cupboard, Entrance door and bathroom door looked as though the painter had completely forgotten those when the other woodwork and walls had been painted.
Review 34:The general Atmosphere, but this was a visit in November We had a Studio on the 1st floor with oblique views of the sea and distant views towards Elounda,The decoration in the Studio was generally good and the windows/Balcony Door were new UPVC. The bed was a rather 'twee four poster' but comfortable for us.
Review 35:The shower and toilet were really poor and whilst historically greek standards have been less than other countries, nth is was beyond what should be acceptable in any hotel catering for an international clientele. We live in Crete and do know what is achievable . There is no excuse for mold and disrepair.
Review 36:Location and staff
Review 37:The room was rather packed with too much furniture. There were not many places easy reacheable to plug in on the electricity net. One for the television which I did not use anyway so I unplugged it to use my laptop. I later found out that there was one behind the wardrobe! It should be mentioned at the arrival of the guests. The hotel was not easaly reachable for people who can not do steps because it was high up, 62 steps from the buttom street or a very steep road without sidewalks! It should be mentioned that the owner picks up his guests at the busstation or at the ferrypoint if there is any on the booking page! Most people come from the airport or the port of Heraklion or Siteia by bus! It will save the guests a taxi drive!
Review 38:The pleasant aproach of the staff. In the morning we got coffee or tea and a nice chat with them and the other guests. It had that family touch. Made you feel welcome. The owner drove us twice to the busstation and apparantly he picks his customers up when they arrive by local bus, you just got to call and ask him.
Review 39:The original room I was allotted was not spacious and very noisy, but as I was upgraded everything turned out well.
Review 40:the info I received after making my booking with booking.com described my room as spacious with balcony and the photo on the booking form did in no way resemble the room I was given. However I was upgraded to a room with sea view and balcony. The receptionist in the morning shift was very professional and helpful.
Review 41:the location was good. the room was clean and neatly laid out. the owners were friendly. and the welcoming fresh orange juice was just what i needed after a long journey
Review 42:The hosting family members are very kind Breakfast is ok. Rooms arelarge and have kitchen with all accesories needed. Loaction is superb -right in front the port of Agios Niklaos.
Review 43:Nothing
Review 44:It's all what you need for eco hotel. Large bed, nice balcony with amazing sea view, very close to city center. We were welcomed with cold fresh orange juice!
Review 45:The roof of the building in front of the hotel, that I have seen from the terrace, which blocked part of the view of the sea.
Review 46:Perfect terrace, half the size of the entire room, partly because the room is quite small :) But in Crete, and Agios Nicolaos especially is not the place you want to sit at the hotel. For people who like to explore, this is the perfect place because of the location, and for those who want to sit on the terrace overlooking the sea, I highly recommend this place.
Review 47:Room was too small and cramped. Not even enough room for a bedside table for a glass of water, and the shower room/toilet was tiny. Even by Greek standards (which we are used to) this was below what we expected.
Review 48:Location - very convenient and great sea views. Good welcome from staff and they were very understanding when we checked out early because we felt the room was too small.
Review 49:The hotel advertises free pick up from the bus station, I had the hotel I was at in Heraklion that morning phone and tell Pergola what time my bus would arrive and reserve pick up for me. I waited 15 minutes and the pick up did not come, I tried calling but the girl who answered couldn't hear me so I took a taxi. On arrival I asked what happened and the young girl on reception couldn't tell me, didn't offer to try to find out what the problem had been, didn't apologise or offer to reimburse the taxi money. It's only 5eur and may have been a simple miscommunication but her attitude really wasn't nice, helpful, accommodating or welcoming. She also didn't offer any information about the area, ask if there was anything she could help with. It seems the hotel is literally just a business to provide rooms and nothing more. I recommend the tourist info office near the lake - the very helpful gentleman there was able to provide information about what to do and see in the area, how best to do it, bus timetables and recommended excellent local Greek restaurants. The cleaning staff are also very loud in the mornings and my room didn't have a view.
Review 50:Good location for lake, beach, good restaurants close by. Good wifi in the room. Manuela on checking out was friendly and helpful. Perhaps if she would've been working when I checked in I would've had a more positive experience.
Review 51:Parking can be a bit of a problem , we were lucky.but parking l Is possible at the port 5minute walk away
Review 52:The location and friendliness .going back next year for a 2night stay
Review 53:Nice room and very helpful staff. Very clean and about 60 seconds walk from the town centre (saved money on taxis). Also, free wifi in the room. I will definitely book with them again in my next visit.
Review 54:Staff smoked in the lobby which filtered up to the rooms. They allow pets in the hotel, and I was kept awake by a barking dog both nights.
Review 55:Despite the stairs it was very close to town.
Review 56:The hotel is old, the pressure of the hot water was changing continously; the room was so small we had to push the bed from one side to another to get some space; the bathroom was very small;the doors were so thin that you could hear all neighbours, so falling asleep was a little bit difficult; unless you have a very deep sleep,or you sleep on the beach, during the day, this hotel wouldn't be the best choice
Review 57:The location is excellent, the staff is friendly, the hotel is very clean, the conditioning air functions; the Wi-Fi worked properly
Review 58:This hotel is in a great location, near beach and shops and bars. The view from hotel is great. Rooms are a bit tiny but clean. Above all, the reception staff were so accommodating.
Review 59:A lack of an elevator made getting heavy luggage upstairs difficult. The room, while the view was lovely, was like a cupboard. The double bed took up most of the room, with a small gap next to it to walk through. We were downgraded (or upgraded?!) from a triple room for 2 people to a double room. Not sure if this ended up better or worse for us in the end.
Review 60:Welcome orange juice, balcony with a beautiful view, waffle-weave on the bed, which was fairly comfy by Cretan standards. Clean bathroom, if a bit small. Some staff very helpful, others not so much. Close to a very small nice beach.
Review 61:As we are of the older generation we would have liked a lift however theexcercise was good for us.
Review 62:Fantastic location, just a walk to everything. Owner, Yannis is a lovelyman and so helpful. He has a wonderful voice even at his age and used toserenade us quite often. On our last day he presented us with a largebox of Greek biscuits. The staff were so nice and never too busy to helpyou. We stayed for 2 weeks on the 1st floor and 3 weeks on the 2nd floorand the views were wonderful. The rooms are not large but very cleanwith comfortable beds and the views compensate for evrything. Thebreakfasts at 5 euros are great value. Not a luxury hotel but amazingvalue. We would stay again.
Review 63:Lots of stairs to walk up from esplanade, rooms small but manageable
Review 64:Great breakfast, fantastic view, very close to restaurants and beach, amazing wifi, lovely staff, easy parking around the hotel
Review 65:Nothing, I would definitely go back!
Review 66:I had a great time in Crete and especially at Pergola Hotel. Mr Yanis came all the way to the bus station to pick us up and kindly upgraded us to a room with sea view as there was one available. His staff offered us freshly squeezed juice upon arrival and made sure we were comfortable. The room was very cosy, with a lovely balcony. It was so close to the beach, the port + town centre. One of the best travel memories I've had thanks to the lovely staff!
Review 67:We had no complaints.
Review 68:The location of this simple and welcoming hotel was very good, in theheart of Agios Nikolaos, the double balcony overlooking the sea and tothe side the port. We enjoyed our time there and would recommend toour friends.
Review 69:The only difficulty is the parking.but is not only for this hotel.the whole area is walking area and as foreigners we had a problem finding tha public parking.no way to park in the streets .very narrow.
Review 70:tiny rooms, no elevator, old building
Review 71:nice view
Review 72:Bit of TLC, exposed wires above the bed which was worrying.
Review 73:Nice owner and staff.
Review 74:Amazing location, very kind staff, nice room (kitchen inside)....atmosphere Wow! Completely happy to have been there!
Review 75:The breakfast is very good and the location is perfect.
Review 76:A good place for a night, but not longer
Review 77:A longer shower curtain would be great as the floor gets a bit wet!
Review 78:Central, cosy and definite value for money
Review 79:Very friendly staff. Spacious and very clean room with nice balcony (sea sight). Close to harbour, shops and restaurants.
Review 80:nothing!
Review 81:very friendly staff。when we lost our way in town, we met the owner of the hotel by chance。and he kindly drove us to the hotel!
Review 82:You can hear sounds from next room toilet
Review 83:Perfect hotel for budget tourists. Center of Agios Nicolaos, not noisy, near a lot of tavernas and bars.
Review 84:Beautiful sea view
Review 85:You have got to take a room with a sea view, just open your patio doors , with the sun shining in the morning , what a view
Review 86:Service Location
Review 87:stayed one night, lovely room with sea view
Review 88:Amazing apartment..breathtaking view!
Review 89:Breakfast uninteresting.
Review 90:The view from top floor room. Swimmimg beach @ end of street.
Review 91:Lots of steps and stairs to reach hotel.
Review 92:Quiet location, friendly staff, close to lovely cove for swim ,great seaview

Review 100:Great balcony view The people working there
Review 101:Very friendly staff, great location, wi-fi, breakfast... Would definitely stay here again.
Review 102:Small room and bathroom, but super comfortable bed and a great terrace. Everything you need for a short stay in the city.
Review 103:Small, dark room. No lift.
Review 104:Good localisation, new large bathroom, A/C and wi-fi. Price.
Review 105:Fresh orange juice for breakfast
Review 106:Absolutely nothing
Review 107:A really lovely old Greek woman welcomed me, it 22:00 No problem she said happy days
Review 108:Thanks for everything, excellent place and excellent people
Review 109:Lots of stairs to get to the hotel not the place for people with muscular or skeletal challenges.
Review 110:Cleanliness and friendly staff, peaceful. Charming!
Review 111:Nothing at all.
Review 112:Best Hotel Ever in Agio Nicolaos and probably in Crete The Personel is more than friendly and very helpful They offered us fresh water on arrival and gave us a very warm welcome. You get much more than what you paid for, and the price is the best that you can find
Review 113:If I hadn't paid for a sea view, the rooms are smaller and pokier
Review 114:It's nicely positioned just away from the bars. It's good value for money too
Review 115:The shower was cold.
Review 116:The position is good, close to the the port, to the little lake and to the center. The room was small but and clean. The staff was very nice.
Review 117:Hotel is old and run down. Would have been beautiful 30 years ago, but has not been maintained. Our bed was dirty with a questionable yellow stain on the sheet. When I informed the front desk of this, we were moved to a new room because the house keeper had gone home already. No apologies and it felt like we were being a bother. No further incidences during our stay. We loved the view and spent mornings having breakfast and evenings having sundowners on our balcony which was overlooking the ocean. On the last day we wanted to stay for 3 hours longer so I went down to front desk to enquire what the cost would be. They were serving breakfast so had to wait 30 minutes before someone asked me if they could help me. They checked to see if they had another booking coming in after us and there wasn't one. They said "no problem, you can stay an extra 3 hours, just pay something small. Just pay 50% of a full days rate". We thought this to be a little excessive and declined the offer. I found the staff to be unfriendly and unhelpful and would personally not go back again.
Review 118:Great view and situated perfectly.
Review 119:3 years ago they built another building directly in front of the beautiful brealfast veranda, you can now only see the view from particular angles
Review 120:A lovely hotel we honeymooned in 30 years ago and were not disappointed on our return. A family run business and the owner takes an obvious pride in his business. All around Agios Nikolaus the ravages of the recession are obvious but you will note the Pergola is kept well painted
Review 121:The owner Yannis was very friendly and hospitable. The position is perfect with sea views. We returned and they were fully booked. He led us to another hotel that was great as well. Will come back.
Review 122:We were met at the entrance by an elderly man and he told us that they had double booked and we would be transferred to another hotel for the same price. The end result was that we were charged an extra 20 euro,. the wifi and the TV did not work. They required cash, it all seemed a bit dodgy to us.
