Reviews for Herriots Hotel

Review 1:No ventilation in bedroom due to the fact that the patio doors had swelled and unable to open them, did advise reception but no feed back on the issue. Bed not the best quality and pillows of poor quality. Stains on net curtains and throw on the bed. Overall due to bed room issues doubt if we will return.

Review 2:Staff very friendly, restaurant food excellent and breakfast choice wonderful.

Review 3:Flaw in housekeeping process: bed was unchanged and full of hairs when we checked in. The room was also made up before we checked out whilst at breakfast - which probably explains why the bed was dirty when we checked in. This needs some attention! Also the lamps in the room had not been tested since 2014 which should be done every year.

Review 4:Location, size of room and nice staff

Review 5:The bed slanted to one side and felt as though one could easily fall off edge. Too much grey which made it feel a bit gloomy in places.

Review 6:Very good breakfast, very clean room and bathroom. Very comfortable bar and lounge areas.

Review 7:Could have done with a lift to the top floor with our luggage. Four flights of stairs was a lot with heavy bags, although staff on reception did offer to help.

Review 8:Friendly staff and very comfortable room. Delicious breakfast.

Review 9:not really a bad experience room description stated dvd player but wasnt one

Review 10:the room spacious and very clean had dinner both nights food was excellent bar area lovely ambience

Review 11:The rooms are not well sound proofed, so we could hear the other occupants VERY clearly! The hot water in the shower was sporadic at best.

Review 12:Staff welcoming and friendly. The bed was very comfortable and the breakfast was excellent.

Review 13:My husband has trouble walking so having to go up to the room on the top floor was quite problematic for him since there's no lift. Now that we know that, though, we'd ask for a room on the lower floors.

Review 14:The staff were great even when the floods meant that other staff couldn't make it into work so they were short-staffed. The room was nice and everything you could want really.

Review 15:Booking confirmation stated 'seating area and dvd player' and Classic Double Room Plus. No seated area or DVD player and seemed very much like a standard room. Told by reception that hotel full and no other rooms available.

Review 16:Location - opposite rail station, short walk to town and easy access to tow path for canal walks.

Review 17:Avoid Room 11 as although its on the 2nd floor it is over the disco conservatory and outside smoking area. Was very noisy on the night we were there because of a Christmas Party and would also be in the summer when everyone is outside.

Review 18:Right opposite the railway station.

Review 19:No elevator would be good for the elderly if one was available

Review 20:Hotel in the town, convienent to all facilities Good atmosphere and pleasant and Helpful staff

Review 21:No hot water in the morning so unable to shower. Some noise from heating system through the night.

Review 22:Food was excellent - had a wonderful breakfast Morning receptionist was very helpful including lending me a tie for the day as I'd forgotten to pack one. I was also given a reduction in my room rate for the lack of hot water.

Review 23:one slight hic cup for me was the yogurt being on the side , and the milk .. i would prefer these to be stood on or in a iced bowl .... [ dont like dairy products warm ] sorry

Review 24:the room was clean and tidy .. Excellent comfortable bed , bed linen clean .. large white towels .... Breakfast was also excellent , plenty of choice , and very tasty ....

Review 25:Good parking, very good friendly staff, nice comfortable room, bed comfy. Good room facilities. Only booked for one night. Husbands full Yorkshire breakfast very good but the haddock with poached egg I chose, was overcooked and dry. Other aspects to breakfast excellent. We would stay again.

Review 26:Very comfortable hotel with lovely staff competent management and wonderful location and lovely food served! And a wonderful log burner red hot to sit with a drink in front of! ?

Review 27:I did not find reception very friendly when I arrived but the reception staff the next morning were fine

Review 28:It was an excellent location as it is directly opposite the railway station

Review 29:The weather!!

Review 30:The relaxed atmosphere and being made welcome to the hotel. We were told the hotel has had a recent refurb, superb taste and having a 'real fire' was a treat in the lounge area.

Review 31:Not exactly a dislike, but as the building is old, the floors are very creaky!

Review 32:The hotel was very well placed for the town, station and amenities. It is clean, comfortable, has a bar and free parking. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 33:Water in en suite took a long time to warm up.Shower not very powerful.

Review 34:Excellent breakfast with good choice.Helpful staff. Also ate evening meal which was very good but possibly slightly overpriced.

Review 35:Unfortunately they had an eighteenth birthday party the night we stayed.this meant the hotel was very noisey up to one am not ideal.I understand the need for diversified business, this hotel is not big enough.

Review 36:Welcoming and cheerful staff

Review 37:No lift and stairs are very steep especially when carrying bags. No one offered to help with those. Green exit light in the room is central in the ceiling and very distracting through the night

Review 38:Central location Clean and good sized room. Reception area was good

Review 39:The bed room lacked a towel rail and coat hooks as there was no where to hang damp coats also the windows where drafty also a lack of biscuits

Review 40:The mostly friendly staff. The communal spaces very nice. The food

Review 41:Everything was fantastic

Review 42:Lovely location in the town, nice short walk along the canal, handy for both bus and train stations and near to beautiful countryside with interesting places to visit. Nice area for walking. The breakfast was absolutely delicious and the one evening meal in the restaurant was extremely good with pleasant waiting and bar staff

Review 43:Your meals were supurb, but for my wife they were large so she had to leave some. Offer smaller size to reduce waste. Wine comes in different sized glasses so why not meals?

Review 44:Liked everything!

Review 45:I thought breakfast was mediocre , poor continental choice. Cooked breakfast was a little under cooked for my liking and tea from a flats was not quite hot enough. Although bath and bathroom looked good no separate shower or over bath was a let down. Bath took ages to fill. But was lovely once soaking.

Review 46:Lovely room size and comfortable bed. With lovely view overlooking canal. Ideally situated next to train station. Bathroom and bath were huge , felt luxurious.

Review 47:No hot water for shower on 2nd day despite leaving it to run for about 15 mins. Still cold. Breakfast on first day not as expected. Hash browns were fried potato slices and hard in centre. On second day they were fine. Breakfast generally fine other than that. Meal on arrival was not that good. Husband thought fish dish not up to standard.

Review 48:Lovely bedroom and en suite facilities. Comfortable lounge areas. Attended a family wedding during our stay and every effort was made to provide beautiful tables, chairs and decorations plus well managed occasion.

Review 49:Had a lot of trouble getting hot water in ensuite.Shower was rather poor with little flow or water pressure....a shame as it had a spacious cubicle.

Review 50:Good location directly opposite train station.Excellent breakfast served on hot plates, with good choice of cereals, fruit and juices.Very comfortable bed.Was able check in a little early, without incurring a charge.

Review 51:nothing

Review 52:delicious breakfast. washbasin was leaking and we were uograded to a better room which turned out to be the honeymoon suite! really kind of the hotel manager and totally unexpected.

Review 53:I didn't like that the corridors and stair case were lovely and warm but upon entering our room there was no heating on and it took a while for it to warm up to like warm. Also waitress goty breakfast order wrong but did rectify.

Review 54:I liked the friendly welcome upon arrival.

Review 55:We were in room 16 just a bit to warm at night.

Review 56:The staff were great. Could'nt do enough for us breakfast good selection Exellent location would definetly be back. 10 out of 10

Review 57:44 stairs to our room - no lift; no towel rail in the bathroom (in spite of a notice encouraging us to hang our towels on the towel rail.....)

Review 58:Friendly atmosphere especially from the staff in the dining room; good food; very convenient location; comfortable room.

Review 59:On arrival at 9pm, checked in and went up to my room to find the bed unmade, wet towels on the floor and empty glasses in the room. Very expensive for a single, disabled access room.

Review 60:Excellent location and lovely friendly staff. Breakfast was good, good variety of food on offer. Hot food cooked to order. Issues were dealt with promptly.

Review 61:Nothing at all!

Review 62:Lovely hotel and staff. We received a little card in our room signed from the staff wishing us a happy 1st wedding anniversary which was a lovely touch

Review 63:Unfortunately the condition of the room could have been better--room décor was in some areas poor

Review 64:Location and quality of the breakfast was of a good standard

Review 65:TV wasn't working, we were offered another room, however, but had unpacked by that stage, so declined.

Review 66:Good location, beautiful, spacious room, comfortable large bed.

Review 67:To be expected I suppose but there was a wedding going on and the music was very loud, the rooms were hot so u had to have the window open Shower was really powerful but the clip holder thing was broken so you had to hold it over your head. I'm sure it'll get fixed

Review 68:(The usually excellent) Booking.com had managed not to pass on our amended booking details, but the receptionist managed to sort it out for us. She was very helpful Room was good.

Review 69:The shower was slow to get hot but did in the end and the floorboards were very creaky but it's only to be expected in an old building. It's been maintained well and very pleasant ambience in the hotel and bar.

Review 70:Very comfy bed and great thick curtains to make the room dark. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 71:1. 2 flights of stairs no elevator! 2. Outdated décor throughout! 3. Room size/bathroom/noisy toilet - very poor for the price paid. 4. Our benchmark is Premier Inn.

Review 72:lunch in the bar area

Review 73:Lighting in the bedroom and bathroom was quite dark. I was getting ready for a wedding and it made it quite difficult to see whether I'd over done it on the make up or not!

Review 74:Staff very friendly. Everything was thought of and well organised. Food in the restaurant was very good!

Review 75:All hallways and landings smelt of damp.the bed was rock hard which affected our sleep. The full breakfast was poor. This hotel is overpriced. We've paid less at other much better hotels.

Review 76:Staff were great.

Review 77:The bedroom was very warm but given the proximity to a main road and the canal, I wasn't happy to sleep with the window open. The bathroom could have done with a more thorough clean.

Review 78:Good location (very close to train station) and friendly staff. Absolutely superb cooked breakfast!

Review 79:We booked 3 rooms, and were told all were the same, though they clearly aren't. The shower in room 8 left a lot to be desired, so we moved room on the 2nd night.

Review 80:The rooms are all modern, with a traditional feel about them. Food was excellent, we had breakfast and evening meal in the restaurant. Very good value for money.

Review 81:Warm, helpful greeting from Janice at Reception on arrival, great night's sleep thanks to excellent comfort of bed/pillows, being able to open windows for fresh air overnight (hot weather), lovely short walk into town along canal, car parking on site.

Review 82:The staff were friendly and efficient. The food was excellent, especially the evening meals (extra) which were inexpensive, we didn't bother to find anywhere else to eat.

Review 83:We were telephoned a week before travelling, to welcome us and answer any questions. The staff couldn't have done more for us ie carried suitcase up and down the stairs. Pleasant conversations. We felt valued.

Review 84:There is no need to play loud "chart hits" music at breakfast (or at any other time in the restaurant). People's musical tastes are diverse, these days radio 1 is a niche station;it's bizarre therefore to assume that people would rather listen to that type of music than talk to each other.

Review 85:The staff were very friendly and seemed genuinely focused on doing a good job

Review 86:My mum would have liked a lift to the top floor (we stayed in the old building - I gather there is a lift in the new block)

Review 87:We could walk out of the back of the hotel onto the canal towpath and easily walk into town. Quality of food for the price was excellent

Review 88:The sound proofing in the room is non existent, we could hear everything from adjacent rooms. All the bumps and noises people make at all hours kept us from getting a good nights sleep. There was also ample noise coming from outside as there is a bar under the hotel. I also found the bed uncomfortable there was only one pillow each and it turned out it was just a double (most places have king) which meant we were banging elbows, I'll be sure to double check that in future. We found the room smelt quite strongly of mould, this seemed to be emanating from the bathroom. I found the receptionist who dealt with my arrival could be better trained. There was absolutely no offer of showing us to our room and helping with the luggage we were struggling with - which most places I've stayed at in the past do. You have to walk all the way through the bar navigating people and tables, and then up a flight of stairs to get to your room. I would not stay here again.

Review 89:The room decor was nice and contemporary and the breakfast in the morning was satisfying. There is ample parking. The wifi in the rooms is of a decent signal strength. The location is fairly close to the centre of Skipton (5-10 minute walk).

Review 90:No bad experiences.

Review 91:We were informed that the hotel has been refurbished. Excellent job if it has. A good clean hotel. The Rhubarb restaurant is excellent and the food (including breakfast) is good quality. The reception and restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Review 92:We had turned up on the wrong day but they were still able to accommodate us for the same price. The staff were really helpful and the room itself was gorgeous with a view over the hills. The breakfast was really nice and set us up for the day. Less than a 5 minute stroll into the middle of Skipton too.

Review 93:All good

Review 94:The hotel was in a great location with parking which is a bonus in a small town. It is perfectly situated near everything you could wish for! We have such a lovely nights sleep, the bed was extremely comfortable, and we heard no noises throughout the night or in the mornings. Breakfast was just what you needed- with a cold and hot option- or both, and the staff very helpful at all times. A short distance from the hustle and bustle of the beautiful town, along the canal which the hotel backs on to! A tip- do specify if you want a room with the canal view!! I booked, and was under the impression we would be in one of these however we weren't, but on booking, I did not see an option for this specific room, otherwise I would have specified this. However, our room was lovely, spacious, warm and a home from home! We would definitely stay here again!

Review 95:No Tea/Coffee Facilities in the room, and £2.35 for a cup of Tea in the bar was outrageous.

Review 96:Rhubarb Restaurant food was fantastic, staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 97:We didn't like the fact that we were in the middle of painters and decorators. One day someone started to sand my door as a precursor to painting it. I got out ok but 'it's water-based paint not oil' did not make me feel happy navigating between Wet paint' signs.

Review 98:Location and quality of food.

Review 99:Although booked in for 2 nights, got called home after 1 as an emergency as my elderly mother hospitalised with broken hip and elbow. She was to have op in the morning and as was 90 was necessary to see her before-just in case. Still charged for 2 nights minus one breakfast. Thought that was uncompassionate.

Review 100:Room and bathroom very clean. Furnishings fresh and of quality. Décor a bit depressing.

Review 101:The room was very clean but was short of a couple of small things.coat hook and slight modernisation compared to the rest of the hotel

Review 102:The staff and food in the restaurant

Review 103:Only one issue with the room which I was assured is to be rectified soon. Bar is open to the public but was very quiet not much atmosphere. Locals are missing a treat.

Review 104:Convenient for the station and our breakfasts and the food in the restaurant was excelent. Staff were very helpful and explained everything.

Review 105:Soundproofing in bedroom poor. Shower room looked great ... But pressure of water and shower head not good. Also tiles slippy, with no grab rail

Review 106:Very welcoming. Nice situation near canal - especially if in new part of hotel, but could be noisy at weekends.midd Breakfast and dinner were good, with attentive staff

Review 107:Squekey floorboards. Shower mixer hot and cold hit and miss and towel rail came off wall.

Review 108:Location was good easy to get to most area's. Staff excellent. Very helpful and upgraded room which was very comfortable.

Review 109:Staff very helpful and accommodating, as this was a 65th birthday treat the upgrade to the Bridal Suite was fantastic. The 50% discount for early dinning is fantastic value for the quality of dishes on offer. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Review 110:Nothing all was great..

Review 111:Very helpful staff who went out of their way to make sure we were happy with everything, couldn't ask for more!!! Very close to Skipton castle and town centre,a lovely place to visit, will be returning soon..

Review 112:My husband struggles with stairs, and the service lift broke which meant he had to keep climbing up to our second floor room every time we went out. We couldn't get in the car park when we arrived as they had a firms conference there. When we went down in the evening there was a party and we couldn't get through reception for them all, and obviously some of them stayed the night because they were in the room next to us being very loud until 3.20 am !

Review 113:The place was nice, the food was nice. It was near the canal, and our room overlooked it.

Review 114:Big problem with the large green security light in bedroom. No pinprick green dot, this! Lit up the bedroom so bright that you could read by it. Staff made a very feeble effort to cover it, and we attempted to cover it ourselves with black paper, but was still very intrusive. Apparently this light is only in some of the rooms so ask before you book. Would not book this hotel again despite its other attractions, unless there was a room available without this light.

Review 115:Location very good, near town centre, bus and rail stations. Beautifully cooked breakfasts. Nice bar area and very nice staff. Large, comfortable clean rooms.

Review 116:This hotel is in an excellent location and staff were very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. The food was excellent too. Thank you for a lovely break. We will definitely return.

Review 117:the receptionist was very abrubt, for example here's your key and c u later, the hotel decorations must have won an award in the 1970's cos its their, pathetic old wall paper every where, this place needs a few quid spent on it. it stunk because of the old carpet which I suppose has never been changed, very poor

Review 118:I like that it was near a bar where they showed live football,

Review 119:Had to ask to place breakfast order as we were forgot about and breakfast wasn't as described on menu.

Review 120:Facilities, décor, and location. Very pleasant receptionist upon arrival.

Review 121:Bedside reading light could be better, and the shower a bit more powerful.

Review 122:A convenient hotel for the train, and also within walking distance of the town.

Review 123:Staff were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble for them. Janice was lovely as were the two waitresses. The food was excellent, the value overall was superb.

Review 124:Nothing to dislike. Tempoary scaffolding outside room but caused no problems.

Review 125:Ideally situated near station and a short canalside walk to the delightful town centre. Staff efficient and helpful. Excellent evening meal and great breakfast. Will return when next in the area.

Review 126:Noting, it was brilliant!

Review 127:Outstanding friendliness & helpfulness of staff; they even put balloons on our restaurant table when they learned it was my birthday! Late-night & early-morning arrangements very clearly explained; taxi booked & booking cheerfully altered.

Review 128:nothing, all good

Review 129:Hotel is in a good location, I found the staff friendly and attentive. Room was comfortable and I thought the food was excellent. Will definitely be staying again when next in the area.

Review 130:I appreciate the need for emergency lighting but it's poposition over the bed meant a green glow directly above when trying to sleep.also a lack of room thermostat meant it was too hot even with the heating of completely from before I was in the room!

Review 131:Lovely hotel, great facilities and very comfy bed!

Review 132:Non.

Review 133:We had a room which overlooked the canal which was worth the little extra. A short walk alongside the canal had you in the centre of town. The meals were very good and the staff were great. We would use the hotel again.

Review 134:Nothing

Review 135:When we checked in told them that we hadn't been away for a while together and the upgraded our room for free...exclectant food and lovely staff will be going back for sure

Review 136:As I had to be out early (8 am) on Sunday morning a continental breakfast was left outside my door the previous evening. The food was very unappetising and the bread roll stale. The single bed needed a new mattress. It made a loud sound every time I moved!

Review 137:A lovely location beside the canal. I have stayed at The Herriot several times and this was the first time in a room at the back overlooking the canal which was quiet and peaceful. Friendly staff, especially in the restaurant.

Review 138:Rooms had very nice bathrooms but overall seemed a bit tired, could do with some brightening up. Lots of stairs to climb.

Review 139:Food was good, good location, check in and out was easy, friendly staff

Review 140:Dark, dark and darker. Landings, hallways, bedrooms all very dark. Brown carpet, purple walls, dark grey woodwork... Miserable impression.

Review 141:Locality of the hotel in Skipton. Wonderful position on the canal, leisurely walk into the town.

The Fine Print

Please be aware that weddings and functions may be hosted at Herriots Hotel. These usually take place on weekends, which may result in the hotel being a little noisier and busier than normal.
