Reviews for Ghan House
Review 1:It didn't rain...... And it's supposed to be Ireland........
Review 2:Like staying with friends........ Informal, friendly, lovely, where else would you find an honesty bar these days? Superb location, everywhere walkable. Best breakfast in Ireland. Best staff...... Are they staff?
Review 3:The old house is full of character, our room had a wonderfull modern bathroom in keeping with the age of the house. A lovely homemade breakfast. Staff very friendly, perfect location.
Review 4:Great location and the family and staff at the Ghan House were fantastic. They were very friendly, it was more like staying in a country house owned by friends.
Review 5:We asked for directions to a restaurant ( the hotel restaurant was closed) and the directions were totally inadequate - took us 30 minutes to find a place to eat. We had to leave before breakfast and paid the night before - however the hotel manager (not on duty when we arrived) called Booking.com and then my cell phone to complain that we had left without paying for the two rooms. Rooms were small and cramped as was the bathroom
Review 6:The location was in a lovely town relatively close to Belfast airport where we were traveling the next morning
Review 7:We had the same room as we had 3 years ago, and the shower was just as pathetic this time as last time. Even though we pointed this out last time. Nothing had been done. In fact, the fixtures and fittings (and decoration) overall were looking a little 'tired', in need of some TLC. Didn't detract from a lovely stay, but you expect better for the money.
Review 8:Amazing house, great place to relax. Very convenient for there local restaurants, etc. A room you really want to be in.
Review 9:Bar closed sometime before 10.30 on night we stayed there------ hence no nightcap ! Cleaner seemed to be in a rush for us to clear room on morning of our departure. Smallish room for the price. One chair to sit on only and it was meant to be a room for 2 Adults and 2 Children.
Review 10:Breakfast !
Review 11:This place was amazing and very environmentally conscious! A homey yet luxurious place. The staff was lovely, friendly and helpful. They automatically upgraded us to a better room (the best room in the house) since they were not completely booked. The room was superb, spaciously and beautiful. If only we can go back soon!
Review 12:the whole ambience of the property the attention to detail in the rooms bottle of water by the bed cookies with the tea the I pod bath robes absolutely everthing was wonderful will definitely return and recommend to friends and family
Review 13:Paintwork etc. a little bit tired and grubby in places. Blood stain on quilt cover! We were in annexe and very noisy at night time - could hear every toilet flush, door, etc. from other rooms. A bit pricey for bed and breakfast only mid-October, especially when one of us only gets a single bed!
Review 14:Very civilised. Close to village. Breakfast excellent and bar area very comfortable. Generally a lovely place with cosy ambience.
Review 15:The toilet in our room was very difficult to flush. The innkeeper checked it, but said it was working correctly, however.
Review 16:The breakfast was excellent. The room & bathroom were large and had nice furnishings.
Review 17:No elevator but managed just fine with my case after a month long trip around Europe
Review 18:Location, Comfort, Atmosphere, Food, it was all fantastic. A wonderful, quiet retreat in a place that might only be steps from carlingford but feels miles away in the best way possible.
Review 19:The only gripe I had was we were expecting breakfast to be as good as dinner, it was let down by the bread which was out of a packet, it was ordinary bread that could be bought in the supermarket just a small gripe but disappointing all the same
Review 20:beautiful period house, very comfortable and inviting, staff and owners so friendly and helpful, dinner was fantastic could not fault it, every mouthful was delicious
Review 21:Towels in bathroom damp, not fully dry after wash. Would have liked some biscuits in room with the tea/coffee facility. Felt the meal was overpriced, at 45 euro expectations were high, did not meet these
Review 22:Liked the casual ambience of the house and the comfy bar. Room was spacious but I suspect we got the bigger one on our floor.
Review 23:I'm not going there. Any complaint I might have would be just "picky". Keep up the good work
Review 24:Food was wonderful. Style / Age of structure and rooms was my image of Ireland
Review 25:They call them selves a gourmet place (and I think they are). Why do they then serve industrial made toast bread for breakfast? Why dont they bake their own bread?
Review 26:Nice place
Review 27:Great location, friendly efficient staff, excellent food.
Review 28:The owners attitude. The property needs serious money spent on it. It's very quaint
Review 29:Food very good
Review 30:Bedside lights are appalling.Forget reading.

Review 35:Full of charm and character, with a lovely atmosphere.
Review 36:a little pricey, but that was due to majority of hotels being sold out that weekend as well.

Review 45:Bedding and bedroom - room 3
Review 46:Thank you so much we had a lovely stay and staff were so friendly and helpful thank you xxx
Review 47:Beautiful Victorian style house. Great location and thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Review 48:Wifi was good sometimes and very slow or non-existent at other times
Review 49:Very accommodating and welcoming. Greta customer service, location excellent.
Review 50:It was a miserable rainy afternoon when we arrived. Our room was not ready an we waited in the quaint bar however there was no fire lit and the only seats were squashed into a corner. A fire would have made all the difference to the initial ambience. There was a nice drawing room but again no fire so it felt a little unwelcoming. The room we were given was in the annex. It was a good size but rather dark with overgrown hedges blocking what little views of outside there were. The bathroom had mould on the shower tiles and the shower was not great. The menu read well for the evening meal but the ravioli starter was rather glutinous and dumpling-like and not very tasty. There seemed to be a good wine list but there was only one bottle of the wine we had ordered. I feel that coffee should have been included in the price of the meal to add a further 2.50 seemed mean. The pond outside had litter floating in it and was badly maintained and murky looking. Everything seemed a bit down at heel for the billing it gave itself.
Review 51:We liked the proximity to the village which was interesting and very we'll kept. Shopkeepers were very friendly and we were encouraged to spend on lots of nice things! Hotel staff were really friendly and nice. Setting was lovely with an attractive garden. Some of the food was nice.
Review 52:Cleanliness of room , clearly hadn't been cleaned properly. Empty milk cartons on dressing table , no biscuits and kettle ' abandoned ' on bedside table , presumably by previous guests, not to mention the used soap at side of bath! On arrival the greeting was a little curt with no help offered to carry cases up stairs in the annex ...... Not good !!!! While breakfast was good service was abysmal- lady forgot every order and had to request , tea, water, butter at least twice! Not enough staff on as wedding that day?? Could be beautiful but disappointing and certainly not cheap !
Review 53:The location and the house looked beautiful . The breakfast was very good.
Review 54:we were in room 2, the person in room 1 snored constantly all night - not something you can mitigate against unfortunately ;o)
Review 55:friendly, welcoming staff. lovely, well maintained property, homely room with roll top bath and corner shower. enjoyed breakfast especially the home made molasses wheaten! (unable to connect to the wifi but that was a plus as work was unable to contact me)
Review 56:Would have preferred to be staying in main house & couldn't ascertain if bedrooms available there
Review 57:Enjoyed old world charm but noticed repairs needed here and there
Review 58:In general the accommodation was good but it's a bit dated in terms of the overal theme, could do with areas tidied up especially to the rear.
Review 59:Breakfast was good
Review 60:I have a fear of dogs and there was a pup loose in the courtyard.there was a spoon laying on the floor when we entered the room for the first time.
Review 61:Nice touches-biscuits and bottled water in room.
Review 62:A little more attention to cleaning? -Dusting? Recent magazines please not 2 years old ones! These comments are made to be helpful to you to further add that little extra!
Review 63:love the house, furnishing, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic food. This is our second visit to celebrate another special celebration
Review 64:Nothing
Review 65:Location is fantastic and the surroundings were beautiful & relaxing. The food was exceptional (the dinner is fine dining). Great place for a romantic break.
Review 66:Nothing - everything was great.
Review 67:The relaxed atmosphrere, the ambiance created by the decor and the way the integrity of the building was maintained - e'g' the original wallpaper maintained. The food was lovely too. The staff member, a man, who looked after us, is very worthy of a separate mention - unfortunately we did not get his name - our fault, not his. he was excellent, friendly and yet allowed us space.
Review 68:Ghan house is an exceptional place with brilliant staff and accommodation. They are willing to go the extra step for food requirements and any requests are heard and never to big. I'll be definitely staying here again and have no hesitation in recommending Ghan house to anyone.
Review 69:I thought €85pp was slightly expensive for beb & breakfast! Dinner was an additional €40 pp
Review 70:The staff were brilliant. Im big into customer service and I felt their service was excellent. I loved the surrounding - the whole feel of the place was lovely and relaxing. One night was not enough!
Review 71:Ghan House has an excellent location between mountains and Carlingford Lough with magnificent views and a stone's throw from the centre of the village of Carlingford. The house is beautiful and comfortable and food is excellent.
