Reviews for Stracta Hotel Hella

Review 1:After a solo drive over ice and snow with only Mr Google for company I arrived to a warm and friendly hotel with a magnificent kitchen. The mext morning on the freezing dark I discovered I had a flat battery. One phone call by the receptionist and I was on the road in 30 minutes. The hotel is just an hour's drive to an iconic waterfall with panoramic winter landscapes.

Review 2:Nothing we didn't like

Review 3:Very very nice, great location, with spa, bar and 2 nice restaurants. Clean modern room with everything one needs. Hot cooked breakfast buffet served.

Review 4:Tiny beds, small bedroom, tiny bathroom, ugly bedroom buildings (a bit like army barracks)

Review 5:Hot tub and sauna. Offered wake up call for northern lights. Second day staff were helpful with regards to calling the blue lagoon.

Review 6:We made a last minute reservation and the staff couldn't have been more inviting. The hotel is lovely with a nice sitting area and restaurant. The room was quite comfortable and they called us when the Northern Lights came out!

Review 7:Apartment room for 3 a bit cramped

Review 8:Relaxed atmosphere with staff that were helpful. A quiet resort. Very comfortable bed - What is the make of mattress....

Review 9:A very nice and warm welcoming. Everybody working there were smiling and polite. Very comfortable bed, nice and clean room. The dinner was great and the hot tub and the steam room was amazing.

Review 10:our standard double room was a little small.

Review 11:The staff were really friendly and helpful Breakfast and dinner were both excellent The hotel has a really homely, cosy feel The outdoor hot tubs and saunas are amazing!

Review 12:There was a small mix up when we wanted to check in. It seemed our room was already taken by someone else, so they asked if we mind staying at a room with Twin bed. We preferred a double bed, so they upgraded us. Very kind. But everything took a bit longer than usual. Then in the morning, when we were getting ready, housekeeping suddenly went in our room without knocking on the door. That was weird, still a mix up in their system.

Review 13:Love the interior, breakfast, location is very practical for the trip. We stayed here last year as well, and like it very much. Rooms are clean, feels like everything is new.

Review 14:They had problems with the electronic key system--ours didn't work at first. Then, in the middle of my nap, some other guests opened the door and tried to come in! Also, they ran my credit card a second time after I was gone--charging me for a night I wasn't there!

Review 15:Clean, quiet, comfortable beds, nice hot tubs

Review 16:The dinner was very very expensive ,100 euro for a couple is too much, the dinner was very simple.

Review 17:It was our second time in this hotel and its very nice, clean and quiet.

Review 18:Rooms were a bit small and for two travelers there is almost not enough room for your bags. It is 100% fine, but just know that it will be close quarters.

Review 19:Stracta has wonderful staff, who were incredibly helpful. Stracta has a "Northern Lights" list and will call you (if you ask) if they come out mid-evening. The common area is really great, which balances out for the small rooms, as you have somewhere to hang out. Breakfast was incredible...best hotel breakfast we had in Iceland! Location - Tiny little town and not much to see, but perfect jumping off point for us to go to Porsmork in the morning.

Review 20:Only issue there was no sign on the hotel. Looked a bit like an army barracks from the outside

Review 21:Clean and the restaurant was good, especially since it was the only game in town

Review 22:Kitchen trash had not been emptied when we arrived. Must have been sitting there for several days. It was quickly removed, but the fishy smell lingered for days.

Review 23:Private hot tubs in apartment rooms. Sauna. Great location for exploring South Iceland. Staff helped with laundry.

Review 24:Very expensive for basic room In an awkward location

Review 25:Beautiful hotel. A little pricey and although the rooms were like cells they were warm and clean and sound proof. Staff were very helpful and polite and the breakfast was fantastic

Review 26:We were "upgraded" to a superior room which was small-ish, so I can only imagine how tight it would be in a standard room. Dinner buffet was truly awful with canned beans and lunch meat as offerings and a total ripoff, staff couldn't care less about serving cocktails or water. Breakfast should have been included in room price.

Review 27:Nice lobby, spa/sauna, green practices, pretty horse farm and glacier view, close to glacier walks and Thorsmork for hiking.

Review 28:Rooms are in strange little buildings. No toiletries offered at all. Small television. Extremely expensive for what you get.

Review 29:Comfortable place to stay- clean, modern, filtered water (no sulphur smell). Cafe in the main building is nice to have close as well. Late checkout.

Review 30:Breakfast only ok I don't like the double beds that are separated

Review 31:Liked the check in staff very friendly and helpful Very clean and new Liked the hot tub and sauna

Review 32:No breakfast. Self catering is minimal. Location is in a small idustrial area.

Review 33:Small functional hotel very close to KEF airport. 7 min drive. For those landing late at night it's a very good solution to get some sleep quickly. The room is basic clean and functional.

Review 34:It seems a bit pricey for what it is. The main lobby is a very nice building, but the rooms are all in modular buildings and has a very sterile feel. You get what you pay for. There are modular halls for the "hostel" rooms, which are tiny clean bedrooms with a shared bathroom. The premium rooms were much larger, clean and nice, but it seems a bit pricey for what it is.

Review 35:Very clean and well run. Location is very good for seeing the Golden Cirlce.

Review 36:Our room was very small and had 2 seperate beds. The room has only a little window facing the wall of the other building. Bathroom was not very comfortable, but the shower was good. Bad value for money, but okay for one night.

Review 37:common area & bistro are very nice and well designed. The food at the bistro was tasty! The hot tub was relaxing :) Location was directly at the ring road, but no noise.

Review 38:The rooms although comfortable reminded me of gloomier times in history. Something like a prison camp. In additiin, we were overcharged by 5%. Were immediately refunded but shouldn't have occurred in the first place . No variety whatsoever for vegetarian during breakfast.

Review 39:Locates in central position. Good access to different sites

Review 40:Great set up. Central area for relaxing, reading, getting a snack or drink from the bar. Nice saunas and hot tubs outside. Simple but comfortable rooms.

Review 41:The room felt a bit sterile. There was only a shower curtain, and the whole bathroom floor was flooded after having a shower. For this reason, there was a big squeegee available, but this felt more like a hostel rather than a higher-end hotel.

Review 42:The hotel is very new and stylish, and deco in the communal areas is very nice. It has great views over the sea and the Westman Islands, especially from the restaurant in the first floor. It is straight off the Ring Road, and was a perfect stay for our second night in Iceland, after driving the first stretch from Keflavik airport. Breakfast was very good as well. There isn't much going on in Hella, but we did a nice circular evening walk along the river and the fields with horses, admiring the views. We also liked the bar area.

Review 43:So disappointed in the false advertising. We were charged more than the rates on Booking when we arrived. Rooms are extremely small and seem like pop-up bunkers (photos are deceptive). Rooms as a "standard twin room" on Booking but are labeled "hostel room" when you get to the hotel. Walls between rooms are extremely thin. We stayed in five locations during our Icelandic vacation and this was by far the worst -- you can get more for less.

Review 44:Nice hot tubs

Review 45:1) Bed linen rough and cheap. 2) Bed way too soft; 3) Siting horrible. Looked onto staff housing in trailers; 4) Looked like a pre-fab prison; 5) Very expensive. 6) Hotel photos deceptive; 7) very small windows in boxes (rooms).

Review 46:Nothing

Review 47:Pretty price for the offerings...I had a room with a shared bathroom and still spent over $150 for a night

Review 48:A clean, modern hotel with good design on your way to the South Coast

Review 49:room was a bit small (standard double) but suitable for a one-night stay. am sure other rooms are bigger.

Review 50:very helpful staff - gave us the room early to accommodate a very early flight arrival from the US; excellent breakfast; very convenient location;

Review 51:We stayed in an apartment and it was great, our own hot tub and a compact kitchen dining area and lounge with two bedrooms. Buffet supper was three courses and good value. Very clean and good quiet location on the main road through Helland.

Review 52:A bit modular and cramped, would have preferred a larger room or a view.

Review 53:Great facilities including a nice lounge area, outdoor hot tubs, and warm breakfast.

Review 54:The electric system did a very annoying noise all night, but I believe this was just bad luck to have that room and that it was solved for the next guests (as we reported to the reception). We had no idea what the noise was until the morning.

Review 55:I liked a lot the design of the hotel and of the room. Very nordic-like. The room is indeed small, but it was fine for 1 night. It was very clean and the bed comfortable. We saw the Aurora Borealis there, it was amazing. The staff was very nice and helpful!

Review 56:I loved Stracta! I hope they stay in business because it feels like a high-end hotel. My favorites: the cozy cafe with actual, good coffee, the local, 100% wool blankets on the beds, and the saunas. Friendly staff, comfy beds.

Review 57:Not one single thing! I am the most fussiest person, this place isawesome, awesome, awesome and the pictures are exactly whats it like!Do not miss!

Review 58:We had the pleasure of meeting with Edda & Alda, such beautifulladies, so helpful, they have all the time in the world to help you inwhatever you need. We had such a great time at the Stracta Hotel. Wecould not have chosen a better place to stay on our first night inIceland, private hot tub, it was so much fun, hot breakfast that setsyou up for the day, good nights sleep. The place is just awesome and thestaff are truly wonderful.

Review 59:The room are confortable, with all the necessary. Good quality internet connection. Staff is really nice and helpfull. The morning buffet is excellent.

Review 60:Our room was one of the separate little buildings so getting to/from breakfast meant full on outside gear.

Review 61:Room was very nice and because it had a fridge, microwave and plates/cutlery, it meant we could self cater. Much needed with so few places to eat in town.

Review 62:Ermmm more clear sky's for some northern lights action.

Review 63:Staff were really helpfull, checkin 24/7 and dinner till 9pm was great, especially given the snow storm on landing and advice on best route to take. Perfectly located to check out all of south Iceland and still reasonable drive to the national park & airport.

Review 64:Nothing.

Review 65:A fantastic hotel, slightly remote location but ideal for the northern lights, great facilities with hot tubs & sauna, great room and staff very helpful.

Review 66:Hotel v quiet and disappointed that there was only a dinner buffet --no restaurant facilities apart from that. Small niggle- no tea/coffee making facilities. These are really standard now, surely?

Review 67:Pleasant interior, though exterior a little strange, Staff helpful, Hot tubs and saunas lovely,(2 of each) though could be an issue if hotel busy. robe and slippers provided for use in above.

Review 68:The breakfast wasn't very good (especially the weird eggs and overcooked bacon); I had to ask to get cups, than fruits as there was none and they only had melon :( The beds are quite small and too soft.

Review 69:Beautiful hotel. Great to have hot tubs and sauna. Easy to park. We got an upgrade and I really liked the room.

Review 70:No complaints.

Review 71:We visited in October on our second trip to Iceland. Loved the hotel which had all the facilities we needed for our family group. Great breakfast, friendly staff, nice hot-tub attached to our studio.

Review 72:Central location with a pub conveniently across the road (Kanslarinn) which helped for a casual meal. Hot tub set at 40 degrees was excellent! Lady who checked us in was very friendly and helpful.

Review 73:No much else in town but the hotel was nice enough for that to not matter. We were there mid-week in October and it was almost too quiet....almost.

Review 74:All very new and therefore clean and crisp. Had hot-tub (and most of the hotel) to ourselves. Buffet dinner and breakfast both tasty and good value. Comfy bed and good shower. It's close to the road but the road was so quiet it wasn't an issue. Good location for exploring the area.

Review 75:The shower is not a separate entity in the bathroom, therefore the bathroom floor gets quite wet after one shower. However this is a minor problem considering the everything else is of a high standard.

Review 76:The hot tub was excellent as well as the breakfast. Beds were super comfortable.

Review 77:Very comfortable rooms, the stuff were very nice and helpfull. they have upgraded my room on arraival. The hotel is a walking distance to the bus station that conects to all major places in iceland, and to the starting points of laugavegur trek.

Review 78:The room was not cleaned when we checked in. The used towels and glasses from previous guest were still in room, bed not made. They gave us dinner because of the room issues and it was great.

Review 79:Sauna, hot tub and steam room. Restaurant on site

Review 80:Small rooms, not enough place to unpack or hang your clothes. Poor ventilation.

Review 81:Comfortable beds, clean and nice rooms. Very good breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 82:They should have room service.

Review 83:The place is great. The staff incredibly friendly and helpful. I was able to book further excursions thanks to the lobby attendants. Can wait to return to Iceland and stay there again!

Review 84:Great staff. Got a discount on the booking.com rate unexpectedly as well as a free upgrade from the super friendly staff. Great lounge and the room was very comfortable. Location is right off the highway which makes it super convenient for anyone on a self-drive tour.

Review 85:There was not too much restaurants around to go to eat in the evening.

Review 86:The hotel was all new and everything was clean and working. We stayed in a cheapest room without toilet but there was a sink in the room. This was enough for us and the room was good value for the money. The common toilets and showers were very clean and there was enough of them. The breakfast was the best we had in Iceland. Recommended hotel!

Review 87:the bath does not separate the shower area, so after a shower, the whole floor is wet. It's manageable, just a bit weird.

Review 88:The night time concierges are extremely helpful and friendly. Really appreciate their suggestions for planing our trip!

Review 89:There should be lighting over the sink area.

Review 90:The lobby is spacious. The staff was very helpful. The location is right off the main road but was in quiet area. It is a new hotel and was not yet completed. There will be saunas and hot tubs. I really liked the hotel.

Review 91:Just that the beds were a bit soft.

Review 92:The hotel is very new and looks great. We had no problems checking in and out and the staff were very helpful. The hotel is well located near the horse riding place and near a nice walk along the river. The room was small but comfortable. The beds were just a little too soft so you almost rolled out of them if you got too close to the edge. In all though I think it was great value for money and it should be great when the sauna and hit pots are ready. Breakfast was good too with both hot and continental available.

Review 93:The shower doesn't have a surround at the base sort of like a cruise ship so the bathroom floor gets wet. You can always use your towel to clean up. No safe in the room No mirror outside of the bathroom

Review 94:The hotel is coming together nicely. The rooms are small and somewhat spartan but the beds are super comfortable and it is very clean. There is a nice flat screen tv in the room. The rooms look just as they do in the hotel photos. There is a nice coffee and liquor bar in the lobby. Wifi worked well, there were plenty of outlets for charging. The windows which many have complained about opened two ways -- sideways and top to bottom to let in a little air so security wasn't a problem. There aren't many options in this part of the country so we were pleased with our choice

Review 95:The dinner buffet is good but a bit overpriced.

Review 96:The rooms were quite small but clean, new, and overall great value for the price. Staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The breakfast buffet is definitely worth it, and the bar/lounge area is very pleasant. I would definitely recommend this place and look forward to staying here again!

Review 97:it got very hot in the room at night, the heating system is not very well calibrated, but the blankets are warm so we just turned it off and slept perfectly

Review 98:we were delayed by bad road conditions and the staff waited up for us - very kind. the hotel is very clean and new and has a boot cleaning machine.

Review 99:Bathroom was lovely, but should have a raised ledge to seperate bathing area from rest of bathroom, so that the whole floor does not get wet when taking a shower (or have a shower cubicle) Kitchenette should have tea/coffee/ creamer/milk/sugar/sweetner packets, all hotels do

Review 100:Appreciated the kitchenette facilities, the supplied handwash & shower gel The location, close to the beautiful sites to see.

Review 101:We would have loved had the advertised sauna and hot tub actually been working. We will just have to come back!

Review 102:We enjoyed the location to gas and food as well as the cleanliness and energy efficiency of the rooms.

Review 103:It was obviously very new and they were still working on it inside and out, adding more houses in the back etc. But nothing that disturbed us. It had only been open for 3 weeks when we were there so it's bound to be better now.

Review 104:Everything's new, good and simple design, great mattresses, good and attentive staff. The breakfast is well worth it and I loved the view from the 2nd floor towards Eyjafjallajokull. When everything is finished, the garden area will be a nice place to stay and sheltered from wind by the surrounding houses. We wish them all the best.

Review 105:The rooms are small, with no closet. It was hot, but we couldn't let the window opened during the night because there was no way to lock it.

Review 106:It´s brand new. The lounge area.

Review 107:We had a full kitchen, but did not have teabags in the room (would have been nice). Not really a problem, since they were provided by the front desk upon request. Breakfast is not included with the room. It is available for 10 Euros/person.

Review 108:The hotel is brand new. From the outside, the hotel is not particularly attractive, composed of prefab modules; but don't judge a book by its cover. The rooms are great! We booked a 4 bedded room, and got a 2 bedroom apartment with a private hot tub, which was the warmest and nicest that we had during our 2 week stay in Iceland. Bathrobes are provided. The rooms were very comfortable, clean, tastefully decorated, private, and quiet. We all slept well. The 2 wooden saunas in the public area and large public hot tubs were about 2 weeks from completion when we were there. They will be great.

Review 109:TV was not working properly. A small table in the studio would be nice. After having used the shower the whole toilet floor is filled with water (longer shower curtain may help or a little rim around the shower). Additional devices to hang wet clothes (at rainy days) would be appreciated.

Review 110:The hotel's design is promising and will become a great place once construction will be finished. Everything is clean and very new. Our studio had all the equipment we needed for our stay. The staff was attentive and helpful.

Review 111:Rooms are small. Hotel still under construction so not able to use all facilities. We paid a discounted price because of the construction, not sure the value will be there at the regular price compared to others in the area. Location is accessible but not very picturesque.

Review 112:Modern design, new facilities, complimentary toiletries in bathroom were really nice, close proximity road, services and golden circle attractions.

Review 113:In mid-July 2014, the hotel is not done and construction is still ongoing. The hotel handled quite well and gave complementary breakfast to us in appreciation of the construction, but the hotel is a construction site. I almost cancelled based on reviews I saw before visiting and felt happy we stuck with the reservation. The room was nice, staff pleasant, location good. Breakfast was good, but we did not eat dinner as buffet dinner did not look that great the night we considered and other restaurants in Hella seemed better options. Will be a nice option for those wanting a larger hotel in rural Iceland

Review 114:Convenient location on Ring road with view of surrounding mountains. Nice simple rooms. Aims to be a more full service hotel than usually available in rural Iceland. This is also a minus as lack some of the character/personality of iceland country hotels

Review 115:The hotel was still under construction during our visit. The hot tubs were not complete and the painters and electricians were still working on the building. Health and safety issues - electricity plugs and light switches in the bathroom ! Builders still on site

Review 116:The staff were helpful but for the price we would have expected the hotel to be complete. Our room was upgraded but only because the type of room booked had not been completed on our arrival. Food was good though rather expensive

Review 117:Good position for travelling out to different sites. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Review 118:the sauna is very beautiful but doesn't really work

Review 119:The rooms were modern and clean with great showers. The spa and sauna were an added bonus.

Review 120:This place has an excellent location and view

Review 121:nothing. it was great/

Review 122:very friendly according staff everywhere

Review 123:Meal came out cold and the staff were a little cold too

Review 124:Hot tub was nice and room was clean

Review 125:Price difference between booking trough booking.com and final invoice at hotel desk.

Review 126:Perfect from location to staff to facilities!

Review 127:Loved the outdoor hot bath/tub. The room was spacious, warm and quiet. Ideal.

Review 128:Ventilation in rooms and corridors is awful, heating system is working poorly. Eating areas are not comfortable.

Review 129:Sauna y hot tub

Review 130:Expensive. Breakfast not included, although you can purchase for about 12 euros

Review 131:Modern, comfortable, enough space, and wi-fi.

Review 132:Northern Light Wakeup-Service
