Philoxenia Hotel with its distinctive traditional architecture is on a hill, surrounded by pine trees. It offers wonderful view of the sea, the mountains and the city of Kavala.

Review 1：What surprised me is the huge parking space which is availiable in the hotel area. Also the wifi access and speed. The service really helpful. The atmosphere was amazing and enjoyable actually!

Review 3：very uncomfortable hard beds and pillows, plus only sheet and blanket so was a bit cold. We have stayed here a couple of times now and always fairly noisy with banging doors and machines going early morning. Plus this time there was a lorry in car park that kept starting engine every few minutes all night.

Review 9：The hotel is old but well maintained, really spacious and clean. The rooms are big and comfortable, with big terrace with amazing view. We really enjoyed our stay.

Review 11：The heating in the rooms was very bad , only air conditioning no wall heaters. In the first two days the room barely had 18-20 C , and we had to keep the AC on Non Stop on heat. ( the windows are not insulated properly) The WIFI was very poor and did not work in both rooms. In our four day stay nobody came in the room to pick up the Trash. In the summer i would defenetly come again , but not in winter/autumn time.

Review 18：The hotel is not like it was years ago. The swimming pool was closed and the garden gate was locked. After a rain there was a lot of water on the balcony as the drain pipe was blocked. I called the reception but nothing was done.

Review 73：The hotel is not in the very center of Kavala but it is still very convenient (5min by taxi (5€) to the port of Kavala, there are also buses till 10:30pm). The place is really lovely and peaceful. The staff is incredibly nice and helpful : Theo gave really good advice (he knows all the buses, the beaches and does always his best to make sure we are happy). And we would not enjoy that much our stay without the help of Xenophon and Basilis who were extraordinary patient, answered our daily 100 questions. I will definitely go back to this hotel under the condition that the staff stays the same

Review 74：The only downside is the location. There are no signs at all where the hotel is situated, so we had to stop at the nearby hotel and ask for directions. It would be great if they could put a sign or two with the name of the hotel.

Outside the reception area, which was excellent, it looked like the place had seen better days. The wood parts were not maintained very well. It looked like the pool had not been used at all this season, because it didn't have any water.

Review 87：The biggest issue is the mosquitoes invasion - I have travelled a lot,but frankly I can't remember having seen bigger ones. Though the hotelstaff provides the respective machines, you have to be aware of thatespecially if you have any health concerns. There was an externalswimming pool, which was not operational. The hotel is only accessibleby car - outside the city. It is situated close to the motorway, whichmakes it easier to find, but be careful about the road tables.

Review 88：The view from the hotel was stunning - it is located on a hill aboveKavala overlooking the Bay. Unfortunatelly in the evening it is hard totake advantage of it, due to the mosquitoes. It is well isolated fromeverything, so if that is what you are looking for it is a suitablechoice, otherwise opt for other. It is a charming old hotel - still someof the facilities are getting retarded. Still I would say that it bringsvalue for money and would recommend staying in it. There was an ac andlarge bathroom.

Review 89：We had a lot of problems with mosquitoes and the heat, as the hotel is situated in the higher altitude long away from the cool sea breeze. During the summer that could be a very dangerous combination resulting with actually no sleeping during the whole night. We tried everything but the A/C system was just dangerous during the night and no nets for mosquitoes. 6 a.m. we just left off sleepy. We had also a bad situation with the sink that fell down due to badly installment. We were immediately relocated in another room fortunately. The rooms were also not so comfortable with old furniture and staff but that can be swallowed. The mosquitoes should be the main focus of this hotel in order to increase the comfort of the guests.
