The Queens Arms

The Queens Arms descritpion
In stunning countryside, this late 18th century British pub is beautifully set in the heart of the ancient village of Corton Denham, on the Somerset/Dorset border.
Just 3 miles from the historic town of Sherborne, the ancient capital of Dorset, during your stay you can visit the town’s castles, Abbey and boutique shops. Also in the area is Dorset’s Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage site, which is just 45 minutes across the rolling Dorset Downs.
A pub with rooms, the Queen’s Arms prides itself on good food and drinks in a traditional setting with real comfort. Enjoy a pint of ale and a pork pie by the open fire, tuck into a delicious meal in the dining room or simply rest for a night or 2 in one of the stylish rooms.

Reviews for The Queens Arms
Review 1:The owner of this hotel should not be in business he is a complete ignoramous to his customers and when given feedback ..he challenges it and turns it back on the customer .. When given feedback by anyone take it onboard and use it to better yourself and your operation.
Review 2:There was not much to like about the Hotel run by arrogant hotelier...
Review 3:Lovely traditional English Country pub with high quality accommodation and welcoming and hospitable staff. The food is exceptional and the Christmas lunch truly memorable.
Review 4:Thought it was trying to punch above its weight. Beautiful location but a tad too expensive for what is actually on offer.
Review 5:Beautiful location. Great bar with excellent beers on draught.
Review 6:We stayed in Room 1, and everything was very comfy - but told the landlord that the plumber needs to look at the shower as it was tempramental. You need a car as its in a dingly dell so no public transport.
Review 7:Its a quaint little country pub with roaring fires and a lovely atmosphere. Amazing selection of Gin too. Delicious 3 course gourmet meal, but you could also choose pub food like burgers or fish and chips
Review 8:The shower was very noisy and vibrated. Wasn't that keen on the cooked breakfast where they managed to overcook the bacon 2 days in a row and neither of us liked the pink, tasteless sausage.
Review 9:Lovely modern and spacious room decorated to a high standard. The bed was really comfortable. Had 2 fantastic dinners in the restaurant.
Review 10:IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO SUPPLY BATH ROBES.
Review 11:The staff are focused in making your stay a great experiance. The food is an eating delight [FAB] The surrounding countryside is a wonderful sight , and walkers delight. . CAN NOT WAIT TO STAY AGAIN.
Review 12:Bed was too small. Therefore not too much sleep which was unfortunate. We thought we had booked in for a larger bed. Another time we would book 2 single beds and will tell our friends to do the same.
Review 13:Welcoming, good restaurant service at night. good food. Breakfast service was better the first morning. Not good the second morning. Had to go out to ask when the apple juice was arriving.
Review 14:Beautiful hotel in a gorgeous location. Friendly staff, fantastic room. All the little extras and attention to detail go a long way. Will definitely be returning!
Review 15:Room 4 was nicely decorated, not sure about the blue lights in the bathroom, but the room was very small and the bed far to short. Not worth £110 b&b per night, £80 nearer the mark.
Review 16:The staff were excellent and the food was very good
Review 17:What a nice place with friendly staff (and customers at the time we were there). There is a nice bar / pub area with several cosy seats. Dinner in the restaurant was very good, as was the breakfast which is served in a comfortable room on the other side of the pub. There are a few parking spaces right at the front of the hotel, if those are occupied it could be a little more challenging to park as it is a narrow little road. WiFi works in-room, which was as new, comfortable and very clean.
Review 18:Bit of a pain not being able to check in until 1500 as we had a wedding to attend which meant one of us had to leave halfway through to do so we didn't mind not being able to use the room but it would have been easier if they had just let us have the key at 1300 so we didn't have to make that extra journey
Review 19:Rooms were a lot nicer than they looked in the pictures very clean with lovely complementary bits. They gave us a call as we nearly missed breakfast and held it open for us which was a very nice gesture as we had a long drive home. Overall it was better than I expected!!
Review 20:dog friendly room is next to noisy beer garden area. Restaurant staff friendly but need training which wouldn't cost much, just time.
Review 21:Dog friendly
Review 22:The only thing I can say that wasn't great was the Wi/Fi connection. We had no service on our phones which made it a little difficult to keep in contact with Kids at home... But we managed, the break from phones was welcomed being from London!
Review 23:Situated in a very peaceful area. Staff are excellent and very helpful Food is great and well
Review 24:Exceptional food, quality beers selection. Attentive staff. Beautiful surroundings what more could you want The owner has thought of everything We will return
Review 25:It is a couple of miles at least outside of Sherborne and quite isolated and the wifi in my room was non existent which was slightly frustrating. It was fine at breakfast but my room must have been too far away from the hub to pick it up the mobile signal was also very poor.
Review 26:My room was really nice, lots of little extras like robes, bath salts a really nice free standing roll top bath etc. Good selection for breakfast cooked to order. I didn't eat in the evening but the menu looked nice and the garden was busy with people sitting outside enjoying the sunshine.
Review 27:Can't think of anything I didn't like??
Review 28:Friendly, well run. They had a sign on the front door 'we welcome dogs and muddy boots' this sums up being a very welcoming pub but what is surprising is that the food quality and cleanliness that went with this was on par to a high class hotel. Well done that pub. Oh and the bed was really comfy.
Review 29:I cannot find a flaw with my stay at the queens arms
Review 30:Helpful and friendly staff, such a lovely bar with an extensive choice of drinks to enjoy by the log fire, breakfast was also lovely and a great value for money.
Review 31:nothing to report
Review 32:A superb country pub and the hotel was lovely, I would definitely stay there again or recommend just a visit to the pub for a drink and food!
Review 33:Room 6 a little chilly on a cold night - needs a second radiator.
Review 34:Friendly, helpful staff. Fabulous breakfast. Very impressive room design and decor. Pleasant comfortable room. Very accommodating of my wife's guide dog.
Review 35:Be prepared for single track, very rural roads.
Review 36:Exceptional traditional country pub. Very charming and excellent food, home cooked to a very high standard.
Review 37:Shower was dependant on a pump which seemed to struggle to maintain water pressure in the morning, presumably at peak of water demand. Bed was a bit dated and mattress although comfortable, sloped slightly to the edge. Heating seemingly on timer which meant that room became pretty chilly in the night.
Review 38:Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Queens Arms. Staff were friendly. Great selection of Whiskys if you like that. Very clean room with nice bathroom. Cooked breakfast was memorably good.
Review 39:The location is very poor infact it's inaccessible, I feel disappointed for not being prewarned about the inaccessibility as I almost doubted my Nav on my way to the hotel.
Review 40:the room was ok, but not any better than you will get in a Travel Lodge double bedrooms
Review 41:Dreadful phone signal - but that's not always a bad thing?
Review 42:Perfect hotel in a beautiful location. From the breakfast, dinner and drinks to the room with its wonderfully comfy bed I cannot fault this hotel. We'll definitely be back.
Review 43:A little pricey. No Wifi or Vodafone signal in room so a little isolated, but was not much of a bother for me.
Review 44:Stopped in for an overnight after visiting the Fleet air museum and Haynes motor museum. Lovely staff, charming room and quaint location. Stunning food.
Review 45:Wifi was intermittent to poor and at times non existent in many areas other than the main building.
Review 46:Lovely building and location, good service, top food, fantastic beers (Moor on tap!), what more could you ask for?
Review 47:Breakfast was a shambles, with only one young person serving, no fruit, terrible coffee and tables not being cleared away. It took an age to order or receive any food. Customers kept asking for the fruit and it just never arrived. Massively understaffed at breakfast. The cleaners didn't change the towels and ruined a pair of hair straighteners by winding the wire around them very tightly!
Review 48:The staff when we arrived were friendly and helpful. Nice rooms, clean and beautiful views.
Review 49:We thought that the cost was £180 but on departure we were told it was £240
Review 50:The food, drink and general ambiance was excellent
Review 51:DELICIOUS food!
Review 52:Very limited vegetarian food in the evening, after a long day walking the portions were small.
Review 53:Nothing was bad
Review 54:Surprise, countryside great, food good, good breakfast
Review 55:Wi fi was really poor -slow and weak, no security
Review 56:Friendly service, excellent location, clean, good food, very comfortable
Review 57:Only difficult to park on lane outside
Review 58:Helpful and well informed staff. Beautiful village location.
Review 59:The staff were amazing - so helpful, especially Daisy
Review 60:Tiny roads leading to the hotel, frankly scary.

Review 79:Marquee set up in front of view
Review 80:Individual bedrooms lovely gardens
Review 81:Leaving
Review 82:The welcoming and friendly service, and excellent food
Review 83:Being faced with giant tractor plus trailer on very narrow approach road with no passing bay for a mile behind. Young tractor driver heroically backed for 1/4 mile to allow me to pass.Grateful thanks to his cheerful help !!
Review 84:Good Food Friendly staff, Pleasant and relaxed atmosphere.
Review 85:We wrote a letter to the owners congratulating them on their excellent operation. Super room very well fitted out. Pleasant helpful staff. A real find
Review 86:Beautiful rural setting with large comfortable rooms and friendly, low key staff, but then the friendly pub with the superb dining made it an outstanding stay. Do not miss this lovely welcoming get-away.
Review 87:My wife phoned in advance to request that we be able to check in early(2pm instead of 3pm) as we had a wedding starting at 3pm. We were toldthis would cost £15 per room. She felt this was rather steep as we hadbooked three rooms in total and asked for this cost to be waived; herunderstanding of the subsequent telcon was that this was agreed to. Whenit came to checkout time we were told this offer had not been made andwe had to pay the £45. I felt there was a distinct lack of grace orsense of customer service on their part. I shall not be returning.
Review 88:nothing to not like
Review 89:There was nothing not to like about the Queens Arms. It is a fantastic place to stay, the hotel, staff were excellent. They made us feel most welcome and nothing too much trouble. The food was excellent and room lovely overlooking the front with the sun pouring into our bedroom in the morning. would highly recommend this hotel to any couple who want time out to relax. We hope to go back very soon.
Review 90:I had to go to work!!
Review 91:Very helpful friendly staff, really comfortable bed with lovely linen, nice large room with great shower. Location ideal for walking. Bar and restaurant areas welcoming.
Review 92:The ergonomics of the bathroom in Room 3 - need to be a contortionist to reach the toilet roll when sitting on the loo. Layout could have been better.
Review 93:The surroundings, peaceful and lovely rural setting. Staff welcoming and friendly.
Review 94:Nothing!
Review 95:Beautiful room with amazing double ended bath. Gorgeous food. Lovely village setting Lovely pub and restaurant with comfie sofas, chairs and roaring fire.
Review 96:Wifi was a bit flaky
Review 97:What a treat! I was staying in the area for work but would certainly stay here for leisure. Lovely room and bathroom , there were even candles if I'd had time to soak in the bath! Food was great and the bar with its log fire really comfy. Helpful staff would definitely recommend.
Review 98:The room while comfortable could do with some minor attention. The wardrobe was joke.
Review 99:The whole ambience, the Staff were welcoming, friendly & attentive, the food excellent the choice of beers and spirits and the quiet location.
Review 100:A bit of noise from the bar Some inconvenience because they were decorating and we had to access bedroom via fire escape Had to ask for fruit at breakfast
Review 101:Excellent evening meal Great bath with HOT water Magazines in the room Good quality toiletries Friendly staff
Review 102:Our first room had the smallest double bed (4'6") but they were happy for us to move rooms on the second night.
Review 103:Very friendly pub, would be great on cold winter's nights with the log fire blazing.
Review 104:Shower wasn't woman's hair friendly .. and yes we know there was a shower cap provided but she didn't like the big overhead shower.
Review 105:Breakfast and comfortable bed
Review 106:A great short break with friendly staff and good food & wine. We enjoyed our stay immensly and the big two person bath was a brilliant added attraction! Would highly recommend this pub for anyone wanting comfort, style and friendlyness.
Review 107:Incredibly friendly staff.Lovely rooms.Fantastic food ( and we are fussy!)we also arrived as a group of Morris men made their annual appearance which was quite surreal looking out of the window to see them dancing while we sipped wine and ate our lovely meal at 9 in the evening! will definitely visit again, it's a great stopover for travelling to the South west.
Review 108:Depending on your view as to whether you want to be contacted or not -couldn't get higher than one bar on my mobile phone.
Review 109:Beautiful and peaceful location with very friendly staff and lovely food& drink. The room was very tastefully decorated with windows on bothsides, so nice and light and lovely views across the countryside. Theydon't advertise it on their website but the rooms have dvd players andand an Ipod docking station. Nice bathroom too and the rooms were alwayswarm as they have underfloor heating and radiators. I would definitelygo back there.
