Reviews for Queen Street Hotel

Review 1:My reservation stated breakfast was included. When I arrived, after I had handed over payment, I was told breakfast was not included and no discount was offered.

Review 2:Everything except for the mistake over breakfast

Review 3:1. Part of the reason for booking this hotel were the words: "Breakfast is included in the room rate". The lady went to check with the owner and they said it wasn't and blamed it on you! They said Bookings.com has failed to remove those words. They were not providing breakfast! 2. We met someone at another pub round the corner, but went back to the hotel bar about 9:30 pm. At 10:10 pm my friend asked for another drink, to be told it was closed! There were no shouts of "Last Orders", so we could not get another drink and they wouldn't serve him. We got the impression they wanted us out of the bar! Not friendly. Not a normal pub. 3. The bedside shelves were falling off the wall. Stuff put on them slid off as both pointed down hill.

Review 4:1. We were two guys from up North, attending a funeral. We wanted a twin room and we had to have a double room on your site, but the lady gave us two doubles for the same booking price which we thought was fantastic. 2. The lady was extremely caring and friendly. She was also very attentive and showed us to our respective rooms. 3. The rooms were fantastic, clean, tidy and practical. (Except the bedside shelves). 4.. Great value for money, even given the problems on the right.

Review 5:it is a clean suite of rooms above a pub with a back fire escape entrance past the bins. No staff on duty, no food, no reception area and pretty horrid little bathrooms and no working central heating. But hey I guess that for 40 quid that's what you get.

Review 6:cheap/clean

Review 7:booking .com said 40£ was the charge which included breakfast The hotel said they didn't do breakfasts and didn't give a reduction in price and to take it up with booking .com We would 'nt recommend you or use you again

Review 8:we were 'nt allowed to see the accommodation or book in when we arrived around 12 md We came back after 5pm then shown the room by a very pleasant bar man who said his boss wanted our payement immediately ement

Review 9:As it was above a pub. On Thursday night it was very noisy until 4am. There was an extractor fan below my window which was very noisy too. Several times i woke up to turn off the isolator. Lovely town to stay in. Very clean and comfortable rooms. But i didnt get a lot of sleep. Price included breakfast but on arrival was told they do not serve breakfast throughout winter. Very strange i thought

Review 10:I came here as i was working close by. The location was excellent. Plenty of shops and restaurants.

Review 11:I stayed during the week so it was quiet but the hotel does host live music at the weekend so it might get a bit noisy.

Review 12:Friendly and helpful staff, very good value for money, good breakfast included in the price. Bed comfortable too.

Review 13:There is a Generator that switches off and on throughout the day and night. This creates a constant off & on vibration which makes sleep impossible.

Review 14:Nothing wrong with it, it's next to a main road so a little noisy, but that can't be helped.

Review 15:The staff were lovely and very helpful. Everything clean. Shower gel provided. Detachable shower head, always a plus.

Review 16:Very noisy band playing in the bar on arrival. Could'nt hear receptionist shouting at me. This meant that I had to find alternative location for dinner. Breakfast was included and I had asked well in advance by email for take-away bacon roll at 7.15 am. On arrival found that this was apparently too early, and therefore had to play a full competition round of golf on no breakfast.

Review 17:Clean room. Comfortable bed.

Review 18:After reading other reviews, was a bit worried, but still the room was small, ordered deluxe double, don't think we got that, tv didnt work, basin light in bathroom didn't work, if we had a dvd player, couldn't have used it. Rooms over a pub, think weekend would be very loud, not recommended if not party people.

Review 19:centrally located, close to sea front and local shops, breakfast was very good, staff were freindly and helpful.good base for other attractions and towns in the area. cheap and cheerful.

Review 20:The hotel could have been better signposted from the road.

Review 21:Excellent value for a very clean, modern room with all that features you would expect from a room costing three times as much.

Review 22:I couldn't stay at weekend as it would be too noisy. As our stay was in the week the noise finished at a reasonable time.

Review 23:Friendly staff. Cleanliness and excellent breakfast.

Review 24:I have stayed here twice and unfortunately on both occasions breakfast was not available until 09:00. I booked bed and breakfast both times but I did not get breakfast due to the very late starting time. For people staying here who have to start work at a normal time this hotel is unsuitable due to the very late breakfast times.

Review 25:The location and price were good.

Review 26:Kept up most of the night with boiler (i think) making a racket next door. I actually contemplated going to sleep in my van :-(

Review 27:Big screen TV with sports

Review 28:we didn't sleep very well as the traffic noise kept waking us up,we had to have window open as it was hot, also think more healtheier cereals choice other than the 99p box of small packet cereals what you would be giving to a child.

Review 29:the bed was comfortable and clean the room was nice and clean.

Review 30:To reach the rooms you have to take the external fire escape, the room is tiny , just the bed , no space to move around

Review 31:The hotel is so close to the train station , it takes one minute to reach it.

Review 32:I requested receipts during my stays and have telephoned twice. Two weeks later still no receipts. Wouldn't recommend it to families with small children due to noise from the bar.

Review 33:Room very clean. Calm, restful modern decor. I was really surprised at high standard of accommodation given the low price. Noise from downstairs was to be expected!

Review 34:Very noisy area, heavy goods, cars, motor bikes etc. No plug in wash basin or light above.

Review 35:Staff very good and helpful. Great shower, Good size comfortable bed. Room very clean

Review 36:The hotel is accessed through a low end pub and an outside steel staircase. The on-off droning of the extractor for the beer cellar caused vibrations throughout my room making it impossible to sleep. I had room 8 (single)

Review 37:The price and ease of access to the town and seafront

Review 38:Seagulls extremely noisy (not fault of hotel). and traffic noise due to position. Bathroom a bit "tired" and needed freshening. Air freshener in bathroom overpowering.

Review 39:Good value for money. Bed comfortable. Staff friendly.

Review 40:No on site parking and the original post stated there was . TV in room could not pick up a local signal . Asked 3 times for a hairdryer never got one .

Review 41:Room was clean .good size nice linens

Review 42:The recent venue name change caused a little confusion, but the postcode and satnav soon resolved this.

Review 43:I arrived after 10pm but the staff were very helpful, despite the bar being quite busy.

Review 44:Room was located on the corner of the pub, at the junction of two roads. The traffic noise kept me awake most of the night as one window was broken and couldn't be closed and the "double glazing" (a second sliding pane inside the main windows) also couldn't be closed so we had all the street noise. You can clearly hear the TV or guests talking in the adjoining rooms as the walls are paper thin.We were there on a Tuesday so thankfully no noise from the bar. The cooked breakfast was okay, well cooked and adequate. Shame about the selection of cereals, Frosties or some other sugar loaded option. Wifi not available in room, only in bar.

Review 45:Staff were very nice, room was clean.

Review 46:During the night in room 8, there was an intermittent noise of a pump or refrigerating mechanism - difficult to sleep, and Breakfast was a bit disorganised

Review 47:Convenient to the railway station. Congenial bar. Room and bed comfortable at low cost.

Review 48:we stayed midweek but its recognised that, as its above a lively pub, weekends are very noisy. Midweek the noise from the pub ceased at around 1030/1100

Review 49:staff polite helpful and friendly, hotel centrally located and value for money Rooms very clean

Review 50:On arrival I paid for my stay and asked for an invoice. The gentleman serving me went to ask for his manager to do this for me and returned saying that his manager would send this over to me that evening if I left my email address. I looked over to see the 'manager' playing pool (this didn't bother me, but it was noted).I was shown to my room which was a nice size, the bed and furnishings were comfortable, as you would expect from 'budget' accommodation, but it was clean and looked fairly recently refurbished, care had been taken with the rooms. The bathroom was slightly too dimly lit for a bathroom and had a slight aroma of hospital (but again I wouldn't of mentioned this if I hadn't had the experience I had).I was asked if I would be having breakfast the following morning (this is included in the stay), I said yes what time will it be served from and the gentleman pulled a bit of a face and said usually between 9-11am. I then corrected my answer to a 'no I won't be then' as I am clearly there on business. That night in my room it felt as though I was downstairs in the pub, again I overlooked this because you expect it sometimes when staying in a pub, its a case of turn the TV up. However this did continue way after 11, which was not ideal. I am not exaggerating when I say it was extremely loud for a Thursday night with a hotel situated above (I had seen reviews about this but thought I would chance it, more fool me). What really put the nail in the coffin though happened the following day and subsequently since this. I went to check out the following morning (you know, normal procedure) to find the pub completely locked up, no access at all, no one in sight. This is before 9 though (when they are meant to start serving breakfast) so I wait until 9am. Still nothing, I call the number of the hotel/pub...nothing...

Review 51:The room was quite a nice size, it was clean.

Review 52:Couldn't get in! Rang to let them know we were running late they said to ring when we arrived and would let us in. Arrived at 10.45 no door as above pub and pub was closed. Tried knocking but no response. No answer on phone. Sat in car park for an hour with 2 small children trying to get into the room. Also breakfast not served until 9 which is rubbish when lots of people are catching early ferries.

Review 53:Room was lovely and clean

Review 54:had a ferry to catch at 9 25am so we couldnt have the breakfast that we had paid for in with our room as breakfast didnt start until 9am?

Review 55:The room was clean.

Review 56:Breakfast was included in price, however they don't do food and nothing was offered! No Wifi, no card payments just cash. However the room was clean with coffee making facilities with no cups!!!

Review 57:It had a bar!!!

Review 58:More draught beers, could challenge the local Witherspoon. Change of hotel name from Hole in the Roof to the Queens St Hotel not very clear outside. Old signage still prominent.

Review 59:Comfy bed, prime location for station and beech. Staff very friendly. Entertainment is available most evenings except Mondays (my stay).

Review 60:Tissue-thin bedroom walls - the room next door had their TV on well into the small hours - shocking night's sleep. Although the bedrooms had been done up, the bathrooms could do with an overhaul. Soap to wash hands with would have been nice. Music from the pub below could be heard from the bedrooms - I wouldn't like to stay there on fri and sat nights when the club is open!

Review 61:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Centrally located - within easy reach of town centre and restaurants. Breakfast was a bit of a shambles - "chef" and waitress had obviously got up late. No tables laid. No offer of juice or cereals. Had to wait 30 minutes for our order but was tasty when it eventually came.

Review 62:Being woken up at 2am by whoever occupied the upper floor, loud talking and laughter until nearly 4am - not how to run a hotel. This spoilt a pleasant stay.

Review 63:For the price it was good value.

Review 64:The hotel part is the first floor of the pub. The pub is a modern lively pub with a lively crowd, a dance area and loud music late into the night. Above the dance floor a large hole has been cut into the ceiling creating a wall of sound into the room above which is located next to the guest rooms. Sound insulation is not amazing so the hotel rooms do vibrate to the beat! Great if you are a party animal or love karaoke. Apart from the noise, the rooms are well appointed, comfortable and breakfast which is nice is held in the pub.

Review 65:Room well appointed and comfortable. Breakfast was nice

Review 66:The light at the bottom of the outside stairs did not come on but the yard light did causing a shadow on the bottom step, making you think there was another step to go down.

Review 67:I found the staff could not do enough to make you feel more comfortable.

Review 68:Difficult to find as trading as Hole in the Roof pub, no mention of Queen St Hotel outside. Lots of road noise all night. Room small and accessed through grubby back yard.

Review 69:Nice decoration, lovely towels

Review 70:Breakfast was poor values for money, very noise in the room and around the hotel.safe very unfriendly unhelpful to us.

Review 71:The hotel was in a good spot in the town

Review 72:On arrival at hotel, discovered that its not called queen st hotel but "hole in the wall" hotel and is in fact, above a pub, not a restaurant. Was told on arrival that pub closes at 2.30am but what they forgot to mention is that on saturday nights the pub turns into a nightclub with dj until 3am. And we were above the pub. Consequently we did not sleep until the last partygoers stopped screaming and shouting etc at gone 3am. The room was a deluxe, but it was so poor that I hate to think what the standard room looked like. I would avoid unless you are going clubbing.

Review 73:No breakfast as advertised, booking.com have been advised of this many times and still advertise.

Review 74:Easy, great location, helpful staff

Review 88:Staff were very friendly could not do enough for us.

Review 89:Right above noisy bar with loud music.

Review 90:Location

Review 91:Friendly staff. Good location and excellent value for money.

Review 92:No saucers with cups at breakfast and no plates for toast. Had to ask for cereals as they weren't laid out.

Review 93:Quite loud if you are light sleeper

Review 94:Great Location

Review 95:Cleansing of the toilet and friendly staff

Review 96:Good value for money. Staff Helpful.

Review 98:Extremely noisy location

Review 118:Excellent staff and good breakfast

The Fine Print

Please note that our hotel is situated above a popular bar and restaurant which can sometimes be quite noisy at weekends.
