Reviews for Waterford Lodge Hotel

Review 1:The decor is a bit tired and having had the lead stolen off the roof very recently some of rooms were letting water in. Quite a lot of traffic noise at the front of the hotel.

Review 2:The staff were lovely - so helpful.

Review 3:Bedrooms are a bit dated and bed extremely soft. Stayed in room 8 which has some sort of extractor outside the window which is noisy all night.

Review 4:Friendly staff and bar/restaurant area good, food was fine. Hotel is in a good position for browsing round Morpeth

Review 5:A really friendly and welcoming place - the staff were great. When we arrived our room had a noisy fan outside the window and when I mentioned it we were moved straight into another room - really great service. Meals were tasty with large portions - they do a 42oz Godzilla burger which you get free if you can eat it all... (we didn't try that!) I had the beef stroganoff and it was one of the best I've tasted. I'd certainly go back there.

Review 6:Hotel is very dated and basic. Shame - it was our last night touring about away without kids, had hoped for a nicer room. Breakfast was a bit strange - felt we were lucky staff stumbled upon us.

Review 7:Good location for where we wanted to be and good parking. Was clean amd staff were mostly friendly. Breakfast was good.

Review 8:Bad smell in corridors. Very dated room. Ceiling paper hanging off in bathroom. No white toast available at breakfast. Breakfast 7 to8.30 which is early when on holiday. 8.45 announcement made ' does anyone want anything before kitchen closes'. Seating very squashed in breakfast room. Kitchen fan turned on approx 6.30 which was very noisy. Could also hear staff talking/singing at this time. No milk served with tea, husband had to keep getting up to get big jug off cereal table.

Review 9:Staff very friendly. Room very clean. Bed comfortable

Review 10:Room overlooked some sort of generator/kitchen extractor which was extremely noisy all night so didn't get a good night's sleep at all.

Review 11:Handy for town centre.

Review 12:Watching television at night, there was music blaring 2 nights out of 3, even when we'd gone to bed for a good hour or more. Radiator in bedroom not working, they eventually gave us a portable heater & already new about the problem.

Review 13:Great location for bus & rail plus two minute walk to town centre. Hotel clean and comfortable with welcoming bar and resteraunt. All staff cheerful and attentive.

Review 14:The bedroom was dated, the shower barely worked, the bathroom sloped - no where to hang anything in the bathroom. heating inadequate. If all bedrooms were like ours then the whole upstairs needs re decorating.

Review 15:The food,(breakfast only) was lovely, staff friendly in all areas. lounge, bar areas well kept, modern.

Review 16:We stayed in room 3...shower is a dribble and you have to either bend backwards and put your head on the wall to wash your hair under the shower or hold it above your head. whenever toilet or tap was ran in our room and the one next door, the pipes were next to where my head was when in bed. Noisy... Then...at 530am ish...the banging and noise from downstairs meant I couldn't sleep...then the extractor fan was started up at 645 meaning it was impossible to get back to sleep. The hotel was ideal for what we were doing that weekend but unfortunately left tired after being in a noisy room.

Review 17:Staff were brilliant, couldn't have done anything better. Friendly and helpful at all times.

Review 18:The room was very dated, and although this does not matter there was mould around the bath and the shower was very hard to turn on and off. The tea cups, saucers and spoons were dirty, and when we took them to reception the cup alone where replaced with more dirty cups, a clean set of cups were finally given to us but we had to ask for spoons, and even on the second day of our stay the saucers were never replaced.

Review 19:The location is great, we were there for a wedding reception which was lovely

Review 20:In room 17 you can't actually stand up in the shower due to a sloping roof. Staff not interested and said simply that that 'was a problem with room 17'

Review 21:heating wasn't on in the room due to bust radiator valve. surely shouldn't be booking folk in to it then ? We made do, but shouldn't have had to.

Review 22:great location and very helpfull Team

Review 23:There was nothing to dislike, rooms are a little old, but great value for money.

Review 24:Location was very good for getting into Newcastle, parked the car at the hotel and used the train. Staff very helpful and a good breakfast

Review 25:Room was awful. Very dark, with an unpleasant smell and faced a stone wall with an extractor or some type of fan just below window making a constant noise. Also extremely noisy above bar. Feel must have been worst room in hotel

Review 26:Location

Review 27:As stated some renovation work was needed. The quality of the staff was patchy: some were very helpful and seemed on top of the job but others were either uninterested or inadequately trained or both: there was little evidence of consistent systems. We would place the hotel in the "adequate" category but it did not live up to its aspirations on the website.

Review 28:Convenient location with on-site parking (albeit limited) with the facility to explore the town for restaurants if necessary. We used the hotel's own restaurant one night and that was very satisfactory and good value. It was good to see that some renovation work was under way although it has to be said this ws needed. It was encouraging that the public areas seemed to attract a lot of locals.

Review 29:Bedroom scruffy and in need of refurbishment and a thorough clean. Hot water to sink very slow to come(5 minutes of running tap). Above the restaurant so plagued with musak . Wi fi only available near reception.

Review 30:Good breakfast and the bedroom was large. The staff were friendly. Price reasonable and ability to cancel with no charge up to the day before.

Review 31:Had some noise from brewmaster machine outside bedroom window when paying bill told this to staff who apologised and deducted £10 from the bill

Review 32:Staff very helpful and pleasant good menu

Review 33:Bedroom tired and requires refurbishing. Cost of accommodation had increased by £10 between booking and staying. I think that the original rate should have been honoured regardless of several months gap

Review 34:Nothing in particular

Review 35:Rooms were dated, Decor was in need of repair and update. No hot water in sink in morning. Breakfast - little help from waitress who just asked what I wanted - no info forthcoming from her re: what was available, where tea and coffee were etc and no offer of any toast......dispapointing to say the least! Left as soon as I could but had to wait ages to check out as so few staff around.

Review 36:All staff including cleaners - with exception of my waitress at breakfast were delightful and helpful. Lunch in bar was good. Location excellent Bedroom good size

Review 37:Visited with family so we all had rooms but no matter what size all the same price. My room was very dated with blue and yellow rose wallpaper, wallpaper on the ceiling!!(to cover cracks??)- was nearly coming off! When you flushed the toilet a loud banging noise and even louder noise when you tried to wash hands straight after! It woke my niece up! Had to ask if this would be reflected in the price and thankfully staff reduced bill slightly- said they were not aware of problem but it was very loud! Over priced for what is was (nearly £70 per night)- with a lick of paint and different carpet in room (also different size rooms should be priced accordingly)also no wallpaper on ceiling it could be nice. Windows were very small and only one that looked like it would open....couldn't reach it. Also, the mattress cover had plastic on the underside and hence made for a very sweaty sleep.

Review 38:Location, good breakfast, most staff friendly and helpful, downstairs areas/ bar was decorated nicely.

Review 39:A bit shabby but to be expected at this price

Review 40:Good location, breakfast was good. Good value for money. We didnt have dinner at the steakhouse as we arrived late - but the smell was god and peopel seemed happy

Review 41:Rooms were poor. Supposed to be a double but was more like a 3/4.bed, bed, linen and towels were clean but rest of room was quite dirty. Bathroom very basic, shower was positioned at the corner of the bath so you could hardly stand under it, and had to leave the water running for about ten mins before it was warm. Stayed here last year and room was basic but ok. Deteriorated a lot since then. Whole place needs decorating and cleaning thoroughly. Wont be staying again.

Review 42:Good location in town centre, good parking, friendly staff.

Review 43:Lovely hotel brilliant staff ,excellent food ,very clean and comfortable beds ,we had ourwedding reception there and also our wedding anniversary there ,the staff were really helpful and thoughtful every detail was done for us ,they made our day truly memorable for us and we couldn't thank them enough,we will definitely go back ,we highly recommend them ,

Review 44:It didn't affect my experience, but the décor in the rooms looks dated and in need of up dating.

Review 45:Good value for money; clean and comfortable; good TV and radio connection.

Review 46:not a bad experience.however after being to the tom Jones concert at Alwick, we arrived at hotel approx.22.50 pm. Had to persuade receptionist to allow us to purchase a drink as she said bar was closed..After advising her that it was only10.50 & the drinks cold be added to our bill, she kindly got drinks for us which we took to our room. The gentleman who served our breakfast was excellent.sorry, I didn't get his name but he was a Tom jones fan too,

Review 47:value

Review 48:Just about everything else. I was literally sleeping on the street with the ground floor room separated from a busy pavement and roadside by a pane of glass. All I needed was the red light, with passers by able to peer into my bed.. Thank goodness for the thick curtains !!

Review 49:The bed was comfortable and the breakfasts were fine especially the quantity of beanz.

Review 50:There was a party in who were very rowdy , didn't settle until 3am then awake at 7pm so get about 4 hours sleep.

Review 51:Very comfortable bed and very good breakfast

Review 52:Shower that could not be used because you couldn't stand up under it and there was only a trickle of water coming out

Review 53:Large bedròom and friendly staff

Review 54:A few minor niggles really.... Plug missing from the bath but staff replaced.... Decor a bit tatty.... I was on a bike which had to stored in a room to which I could not access without assistance. When I buzzed for the night porter there was no answer as he was in the kitchen.... Nearly missed my train as a result. The staff were trying their best but this place could be so much better as it is in a good location on the edge of town and only 10 minutes walk from the station.

Review 55:Good location and lots of potential... Nothing too much trouble for the staff but.....

Review 56:Shower difficult to use and blind needed replacing in bathroom.

Review 57:Convenient for town and railway station but in a quiet area near river walks. Lovely old building, large room with very comfortable four-poster bed.

Review 58:Room was very dated. Shower had very little pressure. Chair in room was filthy. Extractor fan for kitchen was outside window so buzzing all the time. Strange smell in corridors

Review 59:Food was excellent especially breakfast

Review 60:Hotel had no record of stay - said nothing received from Booking.com. I needed a room so had to take only room left which had no working shower (tho they did discount the cost). Don't know who's to blame - Booking.com (tho I had a conf email) or the hotel.

Review 61:Comfy bed and great cooked to order breakfast

Review 62:a little dated

Review 63:the staff are friendly and welcoming it was clean the beds are very comfy and the food was really good and so was the buffet we had no complaints the price of the drink,s was good as well

Review 64:My sister and I stay with my aunt (aged 91) and the staff are friendly and helpful, we have been coming here regularly to visit relatives in the area. This is a nice place and there are very few places who allow three people to share a room, the breakfast is good and there is plenty. We don't fit into the criteria above

Review 65:The shower would not heat up and when I told a member of staff I overheard her tell it to a second member of staff, the second member said it was too expensive to fix. So they obviously know about the problem and still put people in there.

Review 66:Most of the staff were friendly

Review 67:Toast was wafer thin and not even coloured it was just warm bread! Very little choice for breakfast. Hotel in need of refurbishment. Given no information on check in about the two keys given. When I asked whether the second key opened the front door was told "No, the night porter will let you in." This wasn't the case and the key did infact fit the front door.

Review 68:The cooked breakfast was plentiful.

Review 69:Shower in one of the rooms did not have hot water. Could not move room as Hotel full so manager refunded the cost of the room. Friends used shower in our room so not too much of a problem

Review 70:On-site steak Restaurant excellent

Review 71:The hotel is a busy local pub and restaurant we were disappointed that we couldn't eat in the restaurant on Saturday evening. This is just a comment to say don't forget to book in advance.

Review 72:Location, Morpeth is a nice market town with a range of independent shops and good restaurants. Good location for walking, nice park and national trust countryside.

Review 73:Staff - Location - Room/Bathroom Facilities - Excellent Evening Meal - Breakfast - Cleanliness - Recommended Visitors should be aware that this is a very Old but Charming Building & therefore there is no Lift & Disabled Access could prove difficult.

Review 74:Wifi not great and the décor could do with an update

Review 75:Nice big bedroom (room 1) and a genuinely warm welcome. Great service at breakfast and a friendly atmosphere all round.

Review 76:Although the Wifi is advertised, once you get past Room 4 (to 3, 2 and 1) the signal drops out. The bath panel in room 1 needs replacing and a repair to a curtain tie was needed. There were no teaspoons or stirrers left on the complementary welcome tray the first night.

Review 77:The staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant. The young man who served us breakfast always had a smile on his face.

Review 78:The whole building is dated & in need of a good makeover. Cold water, lack of pressure, so unable to use the shower, while we were there. Price seemed high for the standard of accommodation.

Review 79:Location was good, close to the town centre & river. Nice breakfast. Friendly staff. Car park.

Review 80:It was your typical Contractors put me up. We stayed in room 15..'right next do to the "security door which was in constant use throughout the night..bang bang all night The decor was that dated even the spiders where leaving.. The outside, paintwork, lighting fixtures all require some serious attention. The hotel was that bad my wife asked if we could just pay the bill and move out. Unfortunately there was no accommodation near buy to suit our needs. Never ever again will we go anywhere near.

Review 81:The poor Staff tried their best under the dreadful surroundings.

Review 82:No heating in bedroom after 7.30pm we had to watch television with coats on it was so cold, in bed by 9.30pm to keep warm.Breakfast could do to be served till 9.00am as 8.30 is a little early when on holiday.

Review 83:Location and excellent breakfast dinning room staff very pleasant and helpful

Review 84:Didn't have any bad experiences .. But I don't think the rooms should be the price they are for something so basic

Review 85:The Bar area is nice and relax

Review 86:Probably one of the worst rooms I have ever stayed. Old cigarette butts outside the window. Shower has almost zero pressure, towel rack falling of the wall.

Review 87:The location

Review 88:The Wi-Fi signal was not existing in my room despite the hotel manager ensuring that all was nominal. My colleague faced the same issue from another part of the building. The bed was very soft and not so comfortable. The shower was a very good system to save on water as pressure was barely enough to take a shower. The room was very bright in the early morning even with the curtains shut.

Review 89:the full English breakfast

Review 90:one of the male staff members was rude. ground floor room was noisy, due to people coming out of pub and single glazed windows.

Review 91:lovely place. some nice staff.

Review 92:It is a pub so any party's they have you are going to get noise but around 12 it's quiet

Review 93:The location was good very comfy bed and a tasty breakfast

Review 94:Shower broken and breakfast only Ok. Friendly staff, but wouldn't supply a bottle of wine as the tills were off (why it couldn't have been added to the bill I've no idea).

Review 95:Great location.

Review 96:The lack of cleanliness; cobwebs in rooms, sticky tables at breakfast that caused the plates cups etc to stick. Overall Decor of the hotel side of the establishment and the facilities does not warrant the prices being charged; stained carpets, peeling wall paper, poor repairs / finishes to previous problems, the list is endless.

Review 97:Staff were friendly.

Review 98:breakfast was between 7-8.30 far to early last orders like most of the surronding pubs were10.30,even for residents stopping here.

Review 99:staff were friendly enough

Review 100:The bathroom was a little sad and in need of some TLC the shower did not work varying from freezing to scalding with no midway point so we had to use the bath instead which was not a problem. It all needs a little bit of updating

Review 101:Excellent location, Excellent value for money and staff very friendly and helpful, The burgers were amazing and the breakfast very tasty, Our room was large, warm and comfortable and the bed was comfy too.

Review 102:Room needs updating. Traffic noise - windows needed to be open. Fire alarm/evacuation (22.20hrs.) due malicious action.

Review 103:Good bed. Good, convenient location.

Review 104:The evening menu could have a greater variety but the food they do serve is of good quality.

Review 105:The staff at breakfast and behind the bar were far more proffessional than the last time I stayed there.

Review 106:We were in 3 different rooms over a 2 night stay .1st room suitable enough but in the morning found out shower didn't work,I took a bath but my partner was shown to another room to shower .We were then offered this room but tv didny worl.Phone in room one not connected so toacess room service had to keep running up and down stairs .Offered another room at the back of the hotel I presume a family room which was as cold as a freezer Eventually offered a lovely room no 4 I think while we were unpacking receptionist arrived and told us the room was booked by someone else for 2 weeks. At this point I started crying and the weekend break was ruined it was my Dads birthday and all the room changes was making us late to meet the family. The receptionist returned with a bottle of wine and said we could stay in the room.We left the room for the whole day only to find it had been left unlocked all day and we couldn't lock the door from the inside, phone again didn't work so another treck downstairs to get assistance from the manager .This was given along with a one night refund of the room charge. However this was small consolation for a family weekend celebration being ruined.

Review 107:Only Minor Complaint about our room was the noise from a Fan, I assume this was a Main Extractor Fan in a Duct. But this did not stop us from enjoying our stay at the Hotel

Review 108:Our room was clean and tidy, Hotel's Close proximity to the Railway Station and to the Town Centre.

Review 109:Very limited TV stations.

Review 110:All staff were excellent, very friendly and accommodating. Hotel location is extremely good within 2 minute walk to town and transport. Food very good and very nicely presented. Special thanks to Vicky who changed my room with no bother, in order to give me better internet access - essential for me when travelling abroad. I would have no hesitation going back to the Waterford Lodge next time I'm there.

Review 111:It was noisy on the weekend nights from partygoers as my room was directly above the function room, but thankfully only up to midnight. I could have done a hairdryer and an ironing board.

Review 112:I liked the room. The bed was comfortable and the staff were very friendly, helpful and made sure my stay was enjoyable. The food served there was excellent. I would certainly recommend trying the steakhouse whether you are staying guest or a passer by.

Review 113:damp, black mould everywhere even corridors. when breakfast waitress saying wearing a coat to serve cause of cold not a good sign, not a good breakfast a terrible experience altogether do not stay here.

Review 114:not a lot

Review 115:Wall/roof paper should be repaired sooner rather than later, could save larger repairs. Shower facilities not very good.

Review 116:Staff were very helpful and friendly. Excellent breakfast. close to town. Having used this hotel frequently this year have noticed a lot of changes for the good, keep it up.

Review 117:no problems with this hotel it was top class for the price

Review 118:fantastic hotel nice room good location warm room friendly staff nice breakfast top class good price

Review 119:Shower wouldn't switch off but when the staff were notified they fixed it immediately

Review 120:The staff were very friendly, room was secure, quiet, very spacious and clean. Bed was comfy and breakfast was very good. Close to the town centre, river and parks. Excellent value for money.

Review 121:The bedroom was very cold, the TV did not work, the shower would not turn off, the breakfast room was so cold it made you feel uncomfotable. On the second night the car park was full and I was unable to park my car in the hotel car park

Review 122:The staff were friendly and the meal in the restaurant good. Good location

Review 123:A small packet of tissues in the room would have been useful, but would have been provided had we asked

Review 124:Just 100m from town centre. Large room with windows to main road but not at all noisy, in fact one of the quietest to sleep in we have encountered. English breakfast was beautifully cooked. The hotel even had ample car parking.

Review 125:The shower was not very good; old and could do with updating. Also the taps on the sink were not good either. Bed seemed smaller than a standard double and mattress too soft. There was a lot of wet / damp coming through on the outside wall up the stairway and damp / mould spots in our room.

Review 126:Towels were lovely and refreshment tray good. Bathroom was a really good size. The bar area excellent as was the breakfast. Staff were really nice and friendly and very helpful. This place could be really very nice; just a few things that need looking at really.

Review 127:The cleaners were very noisy in the corridor in the morning, when I ask them to keep it down a bit I was given a dirty look but nothing was said.

Review 128:a very pleasant stay, breakfast was very good and staff very helpful and acted promptly when ever we needed something this was our second stay there this year and will be staying there again next year

Review 129:The rooms need updated and a industrial clean. Very dusty above eye level and windows need replaced as there is a condensation problem. The curtains need replaced or sorted to allow them to close

Review 130:Staff were friendly. The downstairs area was pleasantly decorated. The beds were comfy and bed linen and towels were good quality. Plenty of hot water from the shower and room was warm.

Review 131:Only problem was the showers breaking, first room and the second.

Review 132:Friendliness of the staff, especially the young manager Allen. He took everything in his stride, we had trouble with the showers, he was prompt and helpful. Food was enjoyable and ofcourse the atmosphere. Stayed there once before, will not hesitate to stay again.

Review 133:Poor Alan was on his own when we arrived, and apparently, also at breakfast. Struggled to maintain an excellent service, and almost made it! Evening meal in the bar was not so well served, we waited 45 mins for our food.

Review 134:very friendly staff member on arrival, good attitude - well done Alan

Review 135:The bed was uncomfortable

Review 136:Staff were very friendly. Hotel was in a good location, within walking distance of the main street. Restaurant and pub attached were very good. Lovely old building with character!!!

Review 137:Shower pressure poor Toilet position poor Wallpaper peeling Wash basin plug hole blocked & plug needs a chain

Review 138:Comfortable bed & pillows Spacious room Staff welcoming, helpful & professional

Review 139:Limited evening menu. lack of vegetables room was a bit tired needs decorating and turning shower on and off took strength as the taps were very tight. Poor flow on shower.

Review 140:Nice big bathroom usual facilities in the room well cooked breakfast (scrambled eggs) complimentary shower and body gels Clean
