Reviews for Cafe Arhus Hella

Review 1:We arrived and left in the dark which was a bit challenging to get and leave the cottage as there were not many lights around and the paths were iced and super slippery, which was not unusual in Iceland.

Review 2:The cottage offered everything we needed. Very cozy. Great for a night. WiFi worked well.

Review 3:limited kitchen utensils and pots/pans. Kitchen corner quite dark.

Review 4:Cozy cottages, warm (we stayed in December), comfortable beds, fresh towels daily, quiet location. We would stay there again.

Review 5:Little cabins by the river, cute and functional. Super small bathroom and shower. Upon arrival there was no reception. We had to go to the restaurant up the road. Ok for a night but not a must stay.

Review 6:There should be carpet in the bathroom and more tissue inside the cabin.

Review 7:The cabin was small but with everything you need inside. It's very cheap and nice accommodation if you want to live closer to Vik from selfoss!

Review 8:The restaurant is open from 12:00 and therefore we had to search for an alternative for breakfast.

Review 9:Nice location on the banks of the river. We arrived a little bit late but the lady from the reception was waiting for us.

Review 10:Our room was being cleaned when we first arrived (it was just after check in time) and we tried to ask if we could just leave some wet clothes in the bathroom to dry rather than carry them around the rest of the afternoon. Cleaner didn't understand English or German so we ended up taking the clothes with us. It was a bit inconvenient but everything else was great!

Review 11:Cabin was very cosy and comfortable. Cafe food was good and reasonably priced.

Review 12:The shower curtain is porous, the water from the shower spills onto the bathroom floor and there is no drainage for the water to go to and it flows into the room. We had to stop it with a towel.

Review 13:The staff was nice, the heater was on when we got in the room. It was warm and ready for us to settle in. The cottage has everything from cutlery, crockery, stove, shower, dining table and beds. It's self sufficient. Nice scenery too, tranquil and excellent for northern light watching.

Review 14:Finding the right cabin can be a little bit tricky if you arrive in the dark like we did.

Review 15:Incredible value for a very comfortable night with a lovely view of the river to wake up too.

Review 16:The cabin needed a good clean it was dusty and the cups were were the smallest stained cups I have ever seen. The worst thing was the cabin was attached and you could here what sounded like a couple of elephants walking round and everything they said. If that was not bad enough the cabin actually moved when people moved round and felt like being on a ship. Highly disappointed. I would not stay again.

Review 17:The location was good.

Review 18:None

Review 19:The cabins are located right next to the Ringroad 1. Our cabin was among the nearest ones to the lake which made it easy to see Northernlights/Aurora from our room. The rooms were clean and adequate

Review 20:It was very very dirty, you stick on the floor, the wc doesnt have hotwater, maybe you warm or freeze, very very dirty, small and withoutlight, smells bad, etc

Review 21:Wifi

Review 22:The communal kitchen wasn't that good... It was lacking cleaning. the space for the kitchen is so big that could be arranged in much better ways. Also the communal bathrooms could have a little cleaning! they have to cabin showers with two doors, but it's not separated... people can see one another...

Review 23:The cottage was a really nice, next by the river. the location is great, just next to Ring Road.

Review 24:It's too bad we could only have wifi in the common room (but not in pour cabin)

Review 25:Location, the bus going to landmanalaugar can pick you up there. The cabin had everything we needed. The staff was friendly.

Review 26:Would have been useful to know there wasn't an oven.

Review 27:Lovely spot near the river. Cabin was warm and clean. Good ensuite and kitchen with 2 hob burners , fridge etc. nice restaurant on site.

Review 28:Didn't know where to leave key when leaving so left it on the table in the house

Review 29:Lovely little house with all you need (kitchen, bathroom with toilet) to stay overnight

Review 30:we eat in the restaurant of the same owners, it was OK a bit expensive compared to the average in Iceland.

Review 31:very nice wooden cottage, confortable for 5 adults, large and pretty! there is not so much to do around, but the landscape is suggestive!

Review 32:Not the fault of the place, but there were so many "midges" flying around that it was impossible to be out and enjoy the surroundings and river.

Review 33:Great self-contained cabin on river bank. Adequate kitchen for making simple meals. Excellent value for Iceland. We were there last day August and the price dropped 30% the next day. Convenient to leave car and take bus for day trip to Landmannalauger.

Review 34:Everything. Check in is from 2pm, we arrived at 5pm. You'd think this would mean that the room would be ready for us... no. Staff were 'cleaning' the room when we arrived. When asked how long it would be we were told we just had to wait. The staff then had a discussion in Icelandic and obviously decided that they would stop cleaning to let us come in. This therefore meant that the room was absolutely filthy. The cooker, toilet and fridge were disgusting and the freezer was completely frosted up, meaning you couldn't get a thing inside. To top it off there was a phenomenal amount of hair on the floor (presumably from the previous occupants). We immediately when to the reception to complain and were offered a refund, the only good part of the trip.

Review 35:That they gave us a refund... Oh and the receptionist actually had an ounce of customer service in him.

Review 36:Great value for the money. Simple but comfortable enough if you are not expecting five star luxury. Very clean and cute warm cabins, some with shower and kitchenette, great location and view of the river, helpful and fast staff. We liked it a lot.

Review 37:There were no staff at the building named 'Reception' when we arrived, and no sign to direct us elsewhere. Also there was no one around to take our keys to allow us to check out, so I had to just leave them in the letterbox. We stayed in a private cottage but the wifi consistently dropped out. Also the shower water kept fluctuating between boiling and cold, therefore having a shower was a nightmare.

Review 38:Location was good and on a beautiful lake.

Review 39:The kitchen is badly equipped, and largely too small. The bathroom is small too, but was surprisingly clean despite the mud and the rain outside. It seems to be quite different for women bathroom. At 8am there was no check out and no were to let the keys (as it seems). Some linen were dirty and nobody clean the house, but guests are supposed to do so.

Review 40:The place is easily accessible and pretty.

Review 41:The advertisement in the Booking site included a washing machine, but there was no washing machine - we counted on this washing machine! The beds are bunk beds, no doublebed

Review 42:Very nice cabin, in a very nice site, with small kitchen

Review 43:Cabins weren't cleaned very well and the door of our cabin was broken so it was very difficult to open and close it. The toilet were a little bit far from cabins and they were very dirty. The kitchen facilities were very basic: there were few pots and cookers. There weren't fridge or food storage; no dishes, cutlery and glasses. Furthermore the kitchen area smelled so bad because there were few and little windows.

Review 44:From outside the cabins look well, surrounded by a beautiful park and a river

Review 45:-a little bit too small for 4 persons with luggage -no knife in the kitchen

Review 46:-nice location -clean -bakery is 300 metres away from the reception, open from 7:30 -supermarket also 300m away, opened 9:00- 22:00 -good wifi

Review 47:Nice location in a big garden with all the cottages. Close to a river, you can have a little walk along the river. There is a bar-restaurant but you can cook in the cottage if you want and you can find a supermarket 5' walking distance

Review 48:the kitchen is equiped very poorly so if two other people decide to cook you have to wait both for the cooker and for the dish also the refrigerator is not usable as it freezes your food instead of cooling it down

Review 49:the location is great - the bus stop to landmannalaugar is just outside the camp which is quite good

Review 50:They charged us about twice the estimated price. Bookings.com is contacting them to correct this error. We would have preferred separate beds to bunks, and a little more space

Review 51:Campsite-style bathroom. They have a common kitchen area, which is good, but it did not look very inviting. I'd describe this place as more of a campground than a guesthouse. It's not bad, but you need to know what to expect.

Review 52:Nice location on the bank of a river. Nice views. Very easy to find from the route 1. Staff is friendly. You can eat breakfast at a bakery in a shopping center at the traffic circle (5 min walk).

Review 53:The kitchen is in the same room than the beds. You have to be careful with odors and fumes

Review 54:Lovely place integrated in a natural area, the personal very friendly an the cottage clean and big enough for a couple

Review 55:One bathroom for women! Inside 2 showers in a separate room, but no wallbetween the showers!!!! One of two toilets broken. No wifi except inshared kitchen, which was just a house extension.

Review 56:Cabin did not come with towels; had to ask reception, who somewhat grudgingly provided some. There is a sign in the cabin stating that laundry facilities were available, but reception denied this, even though we could see a washer/dryer. Very limited washroom facilities for a large number of guests, and one of the toilets did not flush. Internet only available in kitchen building.

Review 57:Cabins had a sink. Kitchen staff were friendly.

Review 58:Everything was fine but our shower was hard to operate.

Review 59:Nice to have a small kitchenette. There are easy bus tours from here to the Interior - take them!!!

Review 60:Restricted due to lack of towels and kitchen utensils. Also shower rooms difficult to use without room to dry and dress.

Review 61:A modest and quirky set up by a lovely river. Jamie went over and above call of duty in helping us contact Embassy to get an emergency passport.

Review 62:Very cosy, bathroom is very wet after each shower because of it's design despite the shower curtain. Sink faucet was spoilt- scalding hot water only.

Review 63:Close to grocery store, gas station, restaurant, has full kitchen in common area and fast wifi.

Review 64:The wifi only worked outside the cabin.

Review 65:Nice little cabins close to the highway. The staff was nice and upgraded us to a cabin with kitchen which was a nice bonus.

Review 66:Bathrooms disgusting - female toilets out of order, had to use men's. Shower stalls didn't close. Mud on the ground. Huge nasty hair plug in the shower, no soap! Washed with water for 30s before tub plugged and I had to get out. Kitchen - outside patio converted, really gross and dirty, I recleaned all dishes and cutlery before use. Bed was hard and uncomfortable. So many flies in the area that you couldn't really take a walk. Entire experience felt only slightly better than camping

Review 67:Location Cabins are clean

Review 68:We had some problems with the temperature regulation. In the beginning it was a bit cold, but after switching on the heating it became too hot.

Review 69:We came across their offer on booking.com and didn't expect much. The cabin was perfect for the three of us. The facilities were excellent, pots and pans, plates and cuttlery. A bit small of course, but just perfect fro three friends

Review 70:Very poor planning on management's part to have a huge event and not enough staffing or clean up for the following day. I be they had to turn a lot of travelers away b/c rooms were not ready. They should not advertise internet as we walked to every cottage to check reception and there is no router or reception in site. It is marginal at best at the restaurant only. Great place w/ great potential if there is change in management.

Review 71:We were upgraded to 2 double cottages (from single cabin for 4) b/c there was a huge party/event the night before and nothing was cleaned, prepared for the next night. So this was nice, but one cottage had not been cleaned or supplied with new bedding/linen, which we just asked for more and dealt with it. Staff (young girl) running restaurant and reception very helpful, cheerful for clearly being overworked (up until 4 am previous night for the "big event" and the only person working all the following day until close) and working solo w/o management support.

Review 72:Houses are good value for money. Clean, with good kitchen + towels. Girl at the reception was very helpful. She gave us some great suggestions for the next day!

Review 73:Standard of cleanliness could be slightly higher. Wi-fi availbale only in the restaurant.

Review 74:Nice location, just turn right (travelling from Reykjavik) off the ring road. Really good place to stop after the Golden Circle on your way to Vik via the waterfalls! Basic accomodation but good value for the price.

Review 75:First night on our road trip, small but well designed, kitchen and bathroom are well equipped. Perfect for a relaxing night before going on the road again.

Review 76:The two bedrooms cottage is very small. They specified that it can be for up to 7 people but it is so small that the 5 of us had hard time sitting around the table to eat breakfast. It is not two bedrooms, it is actually a small main area with kitchen, table and 2 bank beds for 4 people and another room with bank bed that can sleep 3 if 2 adults can sleep on 120cm bed. The shower was not clean and actually the water did not go down so we had to call one of the staff to fix it.

Review 77:The staff is nice and the restaurant near the site is very good.

Review 78:our door to the cabin did not close entirely shut. could not tell when we booked it whether it had a bathroom in the cabin or not, and it did not. Main showers only had 2 showers and 2 toilets. we were not prepared to not have any kitchen facilities/amenities, and our cabin did not have any. We did have a small sink and a kettle, which helped a lot. Beds were simply basic camping mattresses; nothing fancy.

Review 79:just off main highway, close to river, very quiet.

Review 80:Close to the rive.It is situated between the main seesights. There is a kitchen in the cottege.Low price.Clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Large parking. Free Wi-Fi. Very good hotel!!!!!

Review 81:Check-out wasn't clear (we couldn't find some stuff) and bathroom wasn't the cleanest. Poor and old kitchen facilities.

Review 82:The location next to a lake is awesome. Cosy beds and spacious cottage.

Review 83:nothing to moan about

Review 84:Cabin, waterfront, cleanliness and warmth, attached restaurant, nearby bakery and supermarket. Overall very warm and friendly atmosphere

Review 85:The doors in the men's bathroom/showers can't be locked anymore, the wooden doors must have swollen. Almost inexistent cutlery in the kitchen

Review 86:Cosy cottages Close to supermarket, river view. Bus to Landmannalaugar and from thorsmork picks you up from the premises.

Review 87:The cabin was a good size for two people. We stayed one night and used the cooking facilities provided. Nice peaceful night with our cabin over looking the river.

Review 88:Excellent location- off the main road but very quiet, on a pretty river. Our cabin was spacious, the kitchen was well supplied with cooking equipment & dishes and the bathroom was great (we had a private bath)- we could take chairs out to the river and have a quiet drink after dinner- very nice! The staff was great and had wonderful suggestions on day trips. I would stay here again!

Review 89:The neighbouring restaurant was overpriced and booked out. Do yourself a favour, go to the local supermarket next to the petrol station and have a home cooked omelette and a bottle of good wine at a fraction of the price

Review 90:For us, this was a perfect place to stop after the Golden Circle and before starting the anticlockwise route around Iceland. Clean, comfortable...what more do you need

Review 91:Parking lot very pot-holed, all full of water! Got wet feet going to my cabin in the rain, no heat source to help with warm up or to dry clothing. Actually was quite chilled. Would like to see a small electric heater available upon request, sure I'm not the only wet, cold person. Cabin was self-clean system including take out your own garbage, dead flies and dirty floor, obvious staff does not clean though bed was clean. No breakfast included. Poor value for the high cost (as compared with some very nice B&B accommodations, also in prime locations, which I used for less money). No, wouldn't recommend. Sorry.

Review 92:Location was great, the bath house was sufficient, I am an experienced camper so thought the cabin was good with comfortable bed, and sink with hot and cold.

Review 93:The location is quite isolated, quite far from the main activities. But maybe that appeals also to certain people. Recommended as a base for self caterers who do some golden circle activities. Not so much recommended for overnight stay without using the full facilities of the cottage.

Review 94:Nice little cottages. Well equiped. Near a peaceful river. Restaurant linked to the camping is also nice.

Review 95:It was dirty (soil) in the toilet and near shower.

Review 96:Value for money, quite cheap for Iceland. A nice small house with heating and even a watercooker. Free WiFi. Bed colthes are available.

Review 97:Very small cottage. Lots of bugs, comes with the territory near the river though. Shower and toilet area, disgusting. Trash bins where overflowing.

Review 98:Location, easy to find of the highway. Nice scenery by the river.

Review 99:Really nice place to stay. The cottage has everything you need for cooking, supermarket is close and we can recommend Restaurant Cafe Arhus Hellu, good local food.

Review 100:Cabins were not worth the price. Little comfort in the house. The toilet and bathroomfacilities on the campsite were unclean and broken. We paid much money for small facilities

Review 101:The view on the river was ok, as was the possibility to use the barbecue. The camping was close to the village

Review 102:For self-catering establishment we were dissapointed there was no on-site food shop although there was a supermarket just 1km down the road.

Review 103:Location by a lake was very picturesque. The staff were very friendly and our meal in the associated restaurant was really good and good value too.

Review 104:Cleanliness of shower/toilet but its okay as I ques that was normal for camping area.

Review 105:Location was good ad you travel to east or west. Good place to sleep one night. Tourist info was at place

Review 106:Shower drain was clogged so water leaked all over the bathroom floor. Minor negative though, overall the stay was excellent.

Review 107:Cute cabins, clean and comfortable. Very convenient to town center in Hella.

Review 108:Reception-cafe-restaurant closes early.

Review 109:Central location, nice and equipped bungalows.

Review 110:Some strange smell in the room at first but gone after awhile

Review 111:Staffs are really nice and helpful~~~ A supermarket nearby

Review 112:Very nice and clean with all we needed to make our stay comfortable.

Review 113:good place and clean house for our stay

Review 114:Cosy cottage, loads of facilities, good restaurant attached

Review 115:Great location by the river, cozy huts

Review 116:Nice chalet with kitchenette and bathroom and close to lake and nature

Review 117:- In our cottage number 1 wi-fi wasn't working properly. - For 4 people cottage was very small.

Review 118:money/value like everywhere in Iceland

Review 119:The staff wasn't the friendliest. They weren't rude. Just average.

Review 120:Excellent rooms! Very comfortable and clean.

Review 121:Cold bathroom (we couldn't close the window because it was broken), very wet.

Review 122:Good location, wifi, warm room

Review 123:Very helpful stuff from Poland in restaurant.

Review 124:Fab place to stay. Great foe doing the golden circle. Hreat olace to aee the lights . Peaceful. Garage and shop across the road.

Review 125:Not enough service

Review 126:house was ok but not for the price

Review 127:Nice cozy cabin with everything we needed. Good value for Iceland.

Review 128:No complaint!

Review 129:Very good and near to the river which we can do fishing with kids!
