Reviews for Hestheimar
Review 1:Maybe outdoor lights could be on a timer as the cabins next to us had the lights on all night which shone into our cabin as the blinds didn't stop the light coming in around the edges and when your out looking for the northern lights you need as much darkness as possible.
Review 2:Heating was not working properly.after a quick workaround this was fixed. Even though we had our own cottage, the third person had to sleep on a rather uncomfortable sofa.
Review 3:The people at the reception were just excellent!they gave us lots of information and were very hospitable.
Review 4:Comfortable beds, warm rooms, delicious breakfast. Friendly staff. My daughter went riding on an Icelandic horse and loved the whole experience. We both loved the week old kittens in the stables.
Review 5:Horseback riding was great fun, horses are really sweet and well behaved. The B&B itself is clean and super cozy, AMAZING breakfast (well worth it), kind and attentive staff, lovely location. We will definitely stay there again if we come back!
Review 6:Sofa bed very uncomfortable, the worst ever! Dirty cutleries and oven. No towel racks. Very unstable and unusable WiFi. Very unfriendly owner who handles situations poorly. The price. Poor value.
Review 7:The view. Free parking.
Review 8:Because of where our room was it was a bit noisy at night when the stable was being locked up and quad bikes coming and going. There should be a changing area for the hot tub.
Review 9:The staff were really helpful and friendly with everything. The hot tub was an added plus! The horse riding was really fun too.
Review 10:The main bed was good, the 2 camping and sofa bed, were not confortable!
Review 11:Situation, wonderfull view, very friendly staff and a place to go for horse lovers!
Review 12:Wifi had some disconnects but availability is still sufficient. Folding bed could be more comfortable.
Review 13:Great view, especially for watching northern lights, what we did from the hot tub :) Very friendly and supportive staff. Did I already mention the great view?
Review 14:We stayed in the shared bathroom rooms, which if you want any peace and quiet during the day I do not recommend since they are right next to the front door, laundry room, and kitchen. We stayed here the day we flew in and wanted to rest up upon arrival, but it was so loud I had to put in headphones to drown out the noise. Staff was ok, not the most welcoming.
Review 15:The grounds are beautiful and the breakfast buffet was good.
Review 16:We had a few problems with the wifi as the signal was weak in the cabin we stayed at
Review 17:The setting and peaceful surroundings, friendly staff and value for money.
Review 18:I had booked the place as it was advertized as a family run horse farm with breakfast and hot meals. When I arrived I was told that they could not be serving breakfast due to the limited number of staff and few bookings. I think that is a very poor excuse. The explanation certainly did not make me feel like a valued guest. There was a nice common/room dining area where one could sit, but the jarring rockmusic from the radio forced me back to my room.
Review 19:The nice size room was very cosy and the bed was good. No TV, but free wi-fi. Nice ensuite.
Review 20:That cute unit where we stayed was not on the Hestheimar ranch proper, but was actually another rental property that was a 5-minute drive away. It was the only structure around and isolated and not the same little houses on the ranch that were advertised on their booking page. While comfortable, we felt we were victims of a bait and switch
Review 21:Cute unit where we stayed
Review 22:We wished the weather was better so we could have done more in the area!! But that's not Hestheimar's fault in the least.
Review 23:We loved staying in a cabin/cottage as Hestheimar. The setting was so nice surrounded by horses and having our own place was romantic. Perfect for a couple or larger family!
Review 24:When we arrived we were told that dinner wouldn't be available in the dining room (as advertised) and we would have to go to Hella 6km away. This wasn't the end of the world as we were in a self catered cottage and went back to Selfoss to buy groceries from the local Bonus, so it just meant changing our plans a bit and luckily we had arrived early enough that the Bonus was still open.
Review 25:The views from our cottage of the surrounding mountains were stunning. Also good location and base to explore from and enjoyed watching the horses on the farm canter around the fields nearby. Lovely cottage, well kept, very clean and comfortable.
Review 26:Beds were not very comfortable. Quad room had two beds that werent "real" beds - one cot, and one futon sofa. Was OK for one night, but comfort would be an issue if it were a longer stay.
Review 27:Very spacious bathroom. Fantastic views. Private horseback riding tours. Staff very helpful and accommodating.
Review 28:The wifi was so so. The staff service at breakfast left a little to be desired.
Review 29:This was in a beautiful location, friendly staff, clean rooms. Loved that it was on a horse farm.
Review 30:Bathroom was clean and loaded with toiletries, that was great but we didn't like that water spilled everywhere while showering so we had to clean up after every shower. In kitchenette to my surprise were no mugs and pans were scratched beyond its lifespan.
Review 31:As this was our honeymoon as surprise we've got a bottle of bubbles and Icelandic chocolate. Also staff decorated the whole cottage with garlands and fairy lights, it looked amazing, thank you! Otherwise very cozy nice and clean cottage. Would be perfect for aurora watching!
Review 32:Nothing.
Review 33:The accomodation was great. We got our own cottage. It was very clean and cosy. The view was absolutly amazing. It was very peaceful and quiet. The personal was very nice. It was very private.
Review 34:It wasn't cleaned very well. Also, the shower was the type where water goes all over the bathroom and you need to do some janitorial work after showering.
Review 35:Location was wonderful as was the view. The cottage was adorable and roomy for a family of four with two teens. The kids really enjoyed the horseback riding and they were very accommodating with our last minute reservation for riding.
Review 36:After a reservation made and confirmed three months befere, They give us a cottage 5 km away from the hotel. It was really a guest house close to a family house (the sister of the owner) because they were fully booked. You need to accepted it or you sleep outside in the car.
Review 37:The fridge didn't have a freezer compartment. Wifi did not work in our cabin
Review 38:We stayed on an older, very large cabin a short drive from the main house in a very lovely setting. The view of the sunset over the fields was lovely. The kitchen was well equipped. This was obviously a working farm with many horses so left us feeling that we were experiencing a very authentic Icelandic stay. Breakfast was very good.
Review 39:Exceptionally warm and welcoming staff. We stayed in a pretty cottage, with many delightful Icelandic horses around. The whole place has lots of character.
Review 40:That is amazing apartments by horse farm with figures and pictures of horses everywhere and with possibility of horse riding. They have house shoes for you and just bathrobes! And breakfast is just wonderful with delicious homemade bread and cake.
Review 41:The kitchenette is not so well supplied for a family of 4, but you can make do and the staff were very helpful when we requested additional items for cooking.
Review 42:Incredibly cute little cottages near the golden circle, but still far enough from it that you don't feel like you're in a touristy area. Icelandic horses everywhere, some pigs, a very large goat, the 4 year old adored the animals. We had dinner at the main house one night and it was delicious. Buffet style (restaurants in Canada call it family style), with a lovely girl singing and playing guitar for entertainment. the short trail ride was also a huge hit with while family. Very comfy beds.
Review 43:I make the reservation three month in advance and they gave us a hut a 4 km from the hotel which in fact was the guest house of a private house of his sister. It was that or nothing. I need to accept.
Review 44:The hut was nice
Review 45:The black sheep hit me hard in my leg.
Review 46:Beautiful and calm location. Nice big room in main building. Friendly staff. We had first been given a 3 person room in a cottage which we did not like. Our adult son was offended by the childrens's bed in the tiny room. When asking, they kindly moved us to the main building where he had his own room.
Review 47:The put-up bed could have been more comfortable but ok for one night as youngest child slept on mattress on floor as more comfortable
Review 48:clean cabin food location peaceful easy to find
Review 49:My only complaint was the WIFI. This was literally the only issue I had with the unit.
Review 50:This property was lovely with great views of a valley with horses and fields.
Review 51:We made a reservation for a one bedroom cottage and only when arrived late night discoveted that we are in a larger cottage that we need to share with another visitor. We were quite shocked that they have vot informed us in advance! Everything in the cittage was loose and chip.
Review 52:The farm atmosphere
Review 53:Great location - close to, but not on the main road. The kids enjoyed petting the calf, horses, and goats. Staff was super friendly. Next time we'll plan ahead and book some time on the horses.
Review 54:Dinner is 3 course buffet-style but not quite a good value for small kids.
Review 55:Wonderful roomy cottages with kitchenette and great windows with a sunny view of the area. Great value for a family, and close enough for trips to the Golden Circle and Hvergerdi with easy access to horse riding. Loved that the little calf and sheep wandered very close to us. Toddler loved riding the horses. Very relaxing and beautiful area and accommodations on a spacious horse farm.
Review 56:Large tour group was there at same time we were and pretty much dominated the guesthouse. Our room was noisy until 12PM due to being next to the dining area.
Review 57:We have nothing negative to say.
Review 58:Our guide was professional and personable; the food and dining atmosphere was wonderful; the cabin was amazing! And it was all near enough to other places we wanted to visit. Also, we were novice riders for the most part but the horses we rode in our virtually private ride were gentle enough that we were able to try tolting a few times. It was a great experience in every way.
Review 59:Unfortunately there was a computer mistake and though we rented a private cottage, they did not have a cottage available so we had to share a guest house with another group for one night. Despite this mistake, they made up for it with free breakfasts and friendly and attentive staff. Our second night there we were able to have the guesthouse to ourselves. I highly recommend staying on the farm, despite the minor slip up.
Review 60:The location is wonderful. The atmosphere of the farm is incredible. The nature that surrounds the farm is breath-taking. There are a lot of very friendly farm animals to greet you when you arrive and make your stay that much more enjoyable.
Review 61:Cabin was advertised as sleeping three - but one was a cot. Would have appreciated knowing that ahead of time ... would have looked elsewhere. Also, was a bit far from everything. Nobody makes up the room or provides fresh towels during the stay - and there were no extra towels. Very spotty WiFi.
Review 62:Horses and goat coming right up to cabin, comfort of king bed, shower/bath. Coffee and filters a nice touch. Also liked how bright the cabin was - views were terrific.
Review 63:Beautiful property with horses at your window! Was so enjoyable staying here. We spent two nights in a cottage and it was perfect - self contained, clean and tidy and very comfortable.
Review 64:Cabin is only one room so no separate bedrooms if there are several people.
Review 65:Cabins are great for privacy and quiet, and are equipped with good kitchen facilities.
Review 66:The extra bed was not comfortable at all, my mom had a terrible night.
Review 67:The cottage was gorgeous, and had everything you need. The main bed was super comfortable. It was neat to have the horses nearby, and the view can't be beat!!
Review 68:Letto supplementare molto scomodo... A dire il vero è una brandina Colazione molto cara (ma caffè offerto)
Review 69:Possibilità di effettuare delle uscite a cavallo (con supplemento) Ampia terrazza/giardino Piscina con acqua calda naturale
Review 70:The head of the bed was directly under the window, which made it difficult to sleep when the sun rose at 4 am.
Review 71:Arrived late and were welcomed with a hot beverage and snack. Friendly, international staff. Enjoyed the horse ride and hot pot.
Review 72:Very nice owners, ready to do everything to make their guests feel at home. Stayed in a cottage: great comfort, wonderful view, huge breakfast basket. The location is good as a base to explore south of Iceland.
Review 73:Wifi didn't work in room, but only steps away to common area where it worked perfectly
Review 74:Wonderful staff, great breakfast! Comfortable rooms! Loved everything!
Review 75:had the most comfortable night's stay here in one of their little cottages. Their website was easy to navigate and also went horse riding with them through booking that on the website. Cannot fault the place, we stayed in 5 different places on our 5 nights and this was our favourite
Review 76:Speed Showers - if you took too long you may flood the cabin. Wifi - Dropped in and out. Crucial in the winter to check the road conditions to avoid terrible weather.
Review 77:The people, place, cabin, location, were all superb. Amazing place.
Review 78:wifi doesnt work at room. need to go main building for internet access. and wifi is not so good but enough to check main stuff.
Review 79:location, personel, rooms, design is perfect. good place for romantic couples. good location when traveling all around south part of Iceland. also they have lovely horses.
Review 80:The hot tub is near the main building and doesnt have a changing facility so a bit awkward when getting dressed in sub zero temperatures, but for us it added to the adventure! Wifi didnt quite stretch to cabin..
Review 81:A very snug cabin even in sub zero February with gales...very warm, not a single draught! Wonderful location and view, and wonderful horses. We were novice riders and rode although the horses were nearly blown over! Very lucky and saw the Northern lights from the hot tub!
Review 82:The outside of the house is not good and also no WIFI in the house. The bathroom is always wet. The reception is too far away.
Review 83:It is all built with independing house. Good for family type vacation
Review 84:Really well positioned for seeing northern light as little light pollution and can walk to top of the hill for great photos. Very cute little cottages - could have stayed much longer than the one night we stayed. No wifi in the rooms but that's not why we were there!
Review 85:No wifi as the service was down for some reason. Also we tried to turn off the front outside light of the cottage to be able to see the northern lights from inside the cabin, but there was no way to switch it off during the night.
Review 86:Everything about this guest house was great, including the Location, the private cottage, the breakfast (optional 2000 isk per person) which had lots of food, the ability to book a ride on a horse if we want to, fully equipped kitchen, comfortable beds
Review 87:- We could not find it with the navigator, used the mobile navigation instead - due to the snowy weather the sing of the streets were quite invisible (covered by snow). There were big flags we did not see them though. We wish there would be a huge sign or a banner on a main road showing the turn/direction to the farm.
Review 88:+ We were placed in a cottage for no additional fee + Late check in and friendly staff met us upon arrival + We did get breakfast in a big basket a night before and were super happy cause we were very hungry upon arrival + The cottage is very spacious (~ 35 square meters) and the kitchen has got everything you need + The short horses trip was nice despite a very windy weather + Very nice owners, we had a lovely talk with Marteinn after our ride tour + Great deal: For the money you cannot wish better in Iceland! Can recommend this place! Traveling time January 2015, stayed for two nights.
Review 89:wifi didn't work
Review 90:Private cotage with hot pot. We got the breakfast option at a reasonable price and was delivered to our cabin. Food portions were very good
Review 91:The kitchen pans were less then satisfactory and the unit lacked a toaster but this may be due to the newness of the cottage. It was dark as the outside lighting had yet to be installed. These were minor encumbrances to an otherwise great stay
Review 92:The Cottage was brand new and had comfortable bedding and a home like atmosphere. The shower was excellent and the kitchen was cozy. The Staff were wonderful and kind and we were allowed to visit the stables and watch as they trained the horses. We even went into the stables and mixed with the horses. The area is scenic and the view magnificent. The Breakfast basket was more then ample and sufficient.
Review 93:Great value getting the entire guest house to ourselves. Breakfast was delivered to our door as there were no other guests this time of year. The Icelandic horses are fascinating.
Review 94:Some more cooking tools would be useful (fry pan, stew...)
Review 95:Location is great: the hotel is surrounded by meadows and valleys. There is also outside hot tubs open until late at night, absolutely great at sunset. The cottages are great, well equiped, and very quiet. I would definitely recommend this place
Review 96:They checked us into the apartment which is attached to the stable, bad smell (even to horse people) toilet broken, and a leg fell off a bed. However they immediately moved us to a cabin when deficiencies were pointed out. Surprised they would try to put guests in this room. Breakfast quite expensive for the offering.
Review 97:the cabin, the view, staff very pleasant and accommodating.
Review 98:Traveling w teens - wifi slow and spotty. Even though we had a confirmed reservation for 3 rooms, they were not expecting us. Our rooms spread apart in different buildings. Many outlets and light bulbs didn't work. Daughter got locked in bathroom w nonfunctional key/lock combo.
Review 99:Scenery was great.
Review 100:Really great place to stay. Delicious breakfasts.
Review 101:Not being able to stay longer!
Review 102:Cottage was lovely! Staff were kind and accommodating.
Review 103:Rural setting, friendly staff, everything you need for a short stay.
Review 104:Nothing!
Review 105:The cabins were great! Lots to eat for breakfast and the horseback riding was a lot of fun!
Review 106:Very friendly staff and great food!
Review 107:Isolated in nature, equiped, calm.various activities proposed
Review 108:Shower, no help with luggage up long steep gravel path
Review 109:The view... windows
Review 110:Cabins located far from breakfast room
Review 111:Good atomsphere out in the country. Serviceminded staff and horse guide
Review 112:Very welcoming arrival. We arrived late and were very tired but were greated by a very pleasant chap who offered us tea and cake.
Review 113:Breakfast is not included
Review 114:Place is nice, we had a big house for ourselves due to an error on the system
Review 115:The staff
Review 116:Beautiful and serene environment, friendly staff, clean and comfortable.
Review 117:Wonderfully friendly staff, clean and warm cabin, beautiful view.
Review 118:The cabin was very nice with stunning views and the staff were very friendly
Review 119:Nothing
Review 120:Everything
Review 121:The hot pot was "too" hot to enjoy very long
Review 122:Must do a trail ride and do a "tolt"
Review 123:The breakfast was excellent. I liked how one of the team came to warn us about an incoming storm that might close the roads.
Review 124:The cottage was cozy and comfortable. There is a best view to see the aurora in front of our house. Everything is perfect!
Review 125:No wifi(cottage). Water smells sulfur. Bedsofa intended for 2 but very narrow and uncomfortable.
