Reviews for Royal Hotel
Review 1:Dirty crockery at Breakfast and dirty carpets that could do with replacement.
Review 2:Beach front location and position adjacent to the town. View from balcony excellent.
Review 3:Lack of choice in the restaurant for evening dinner. Service in the dining room for both dinner and breakfast not acceptable! Would benefit from someone actually taking control. Despite all of the above the food was good.
Review 4:The bed & bedding were wonderful. Great location in the town although parking could be an issue if you're unlucky not to get into the car park directly beside the hotel.
Review 5:There were problems with the alarm system but the engineer was called to sort it out whilst we were eating dinner.
Review 6:The room was great and the coffee machine was a bonus. The view from the balcony was a dream and the bed was very comfortable.
Review 7:Breakfast was only 5 out of 10...dirty plates and unpleasant frying taste.. The bar meal on day one was excellent - but less good on day two. The size of the blue cheese and pear tart had shrunk and the 'all starter' dishes I had were dominated by average salads..
Review 8:Friendly staff - excellent room - nice view - proximity to the centre of Deal...
Review 9:Parking!
Review 10:Staff very friendly and helpful. They had good helpful knowledge of the local area. Bed was big and comfortable (lovely). Was nice to stay at a hotel in a great location with good food that you didn't have to take a mortgage out to stay at.
Review 11:There is no lift, so if you are staying on the top floor (like I was), you have to carry luggage up some narrow stairs.
Review 12:The room (Hardy) was large, with ample seating space and dressing area. The bathroom was also very spacious.
Review 13:N/A
Review 14:It's a fabulous and friendly hotel; nothing is too much trouble, and rooms and food are lovely. Always helps having three real ales on in the bar too!!
Review 15:It's nit picking, but the meal service in the bar needs customers to go up to the bar to order. Staff then serve you at your table with good skills. Not a problem in itself unless you don't know you need to go to the bar to order - no signs for this anywhere to help overseas residents.
Review 16:Arrived with pains in my knees that made climbing three flights of stairs to our room somewhat difficult. Asked for less stairs and was immediately relocated to first floor. Staff moved everything while we had dinner. Great service.
Review 17:It was a bit of a nuisance having to pay for parking beside the hotel.
Review 18:The hotel was warm and welcoming with bags of character, our room was spacious and comfortable and breakfast excellent with some interesting choices. Deal is just the sort of seaside town we like.
Review 19:The kitchen/restaurant lets this hotel down. When I was there it had run out of plaice, haddock and avocado. If these dishes are popular, then more should be stocked! Also the fish pie is a pink sludge -- most disappointing.
Review 20:It's good to find a hotel which keeps the central heating on all the time when the weather is cold. Beautifully appointed rooms; pleasant lounges. Building full of historical interest.
Review 21:The room was very clean and in good decorative order. For a standard double room both the bedroom and bathroom were huge. The king size bed was very comfortable and all the staff were very attentive and pleasant.
Review 22:The bar staff could have been more helpful / accommodating to be honest, though it was a Sunday night and everywhere else in Deal was shut too.
Review 23:Location was great, the room was very good despite the building being older than Adam and built on a shingle bank. Much warmer than expected and the plumbing worked nicely. The bed was great too.
Review 24:Nothing to report.
Review 25:Delightful location for exploring the East Kent Coast. Right on the beach! Large bedroom - tasteful decor and gigantic bathroom (bath and shower). Bar and cafe with veranda protected from the breeze.
Review 26:Wifi - hotel uses 'The Cloud' which requires guest's full personal details and agreement to disclosure to third parties. I didn't sign up and had to rely on the 3G signal which was poor.
Review 27:Location. Overall relaxed atmosphere, interesting furnishings (leather armchairs etc)
Review 28:Very comfortable super king size bed in spacious room. Very good welcome on arrival. Good mid range menu served in bars and dining room. Good base for visiting Deal,Sandwich and Broadstairs.
Review 29:Disappointed with room, decor was dark and gloomy, lighting was terrible especially in bathroom. Shower tray did not soak away and over flowed. Floors were so creaky they woke you up when somebody walked down corridor. Stayed in captain Parker room.
Review 30:Staff were great, hotel in superb location.
Review 31:We had to ask to be moved. We thought the first room was tiny and had no bath which for £ 128 was unacceptable. The next room was lovely. The floorboards are a challenge as we could hear every step from the people upstairs.
Review 32:No car parking facilities. Cost me £20 for two and a half days. Royal sistr hotel in Broadstairs gives you a free ticket for the public pay car park.
Review 33:as above
Review 34:Room was incredibly warm, despite there being no heating on and it being fairly cold outside.
Review 35:Location is amazing. Couldn't get closer to the beach if you tried.
Review 36:A little bit of a shame that there is no specifically allocated parking for the hotel, but this is not normally a huge issue in the immediate vicinity.
Review 37:Superb position right on the beach. We had one of the balcony rooms which provides the option for breakfast overlooking the sea, or any other time of day to relax completely. There is even an electric heater in case the temperature is a little too fresh for your liking.
Review 38:Breakfast service very poor, had to keep asking for things and very slow bringing them.Waited 10 minutes for a coffee and not many people dining so staff were not busy.
Review 39:room nice and lovely location
Review 40:the only complaint was that my wife ordered a well done steak but it came to the table rare she approached the waitress who appolegised and took it back and asked for well done the waitress was very good and kept coming to see if everything was ok after about 8 mins it arrived unfortuntly this time burnt she treid to eat it but in the end had to leave it we was going to have a sweet but she was so down we asked for the bill and had a drink in the bar the manager found out about this and gave us a refund and was very sorry if it hadnot been for the staff I don't think we would return it spoilt a good evening
Review 41:our stay was perfect made possible by the staff
Review 42:The cleanliness of the room. Too much dust and bathroom needs an overhaul. Huge damp patch on the wall (I appreciate it is an old building) with all the paint peeling off!! Not very attractive. For the price of the room, I wd not expect this type of situation.
Review 43:View from the room
Review 44:Our room have a great view of the beach and everything we needed as very local. The beach was about a 20 second walk from the hotel the pier was about a 3 minute walk. The hotel is set in a very beautiful location and the building was beautiful.
Review 45:Lift primitive and it stuck whilst we were in it so didn't dare risk it again. Not enough staff for breakfast service and lack of direction for staff - breakfast itself fine Bar area gloomy at night - could benefit from lighting/ glittery lights outside on deck area. No free parking - have to make sure you've paid for the first hour in the morning whilst you have breakfast ( could do with some allocated parking paid for by hotel)
Review 46:Perfect location - can see the sea and Beach Street- and could see France from our bedroom. Room lovely as was bathroom. Very pleasant lady on reception. Lounge area warm and welcoming. Historical significance - Nelson and Lady Hamilton.
Review 47:The only slight thing.....our room was round the side of the hotel overlooking some scaffolding which was a shame. And we asked for fresh milk in the morning which we never received.
Review 48:Staff are very friendly and the breakfast was good
Review 49:No internet in room. Difficult to get out of bath. No parking for guests. When eating in bar area, separate charges had to be signed for each item - no table tab available. Request made at time of booking for room with full sea view but was given room overlooking busy road.
Review 50:Good breakfast.
Review 51:Ask for a room away from the kitchen exhaust flue. Whilst the room was lovely and as the photos , it was so noisy and hot ( windows wouldn't open more that 3 inches) that we had to ask for a change of room.
Review 52:We asked for a change of room and were delighted to be offered an upgrade. Our rooms with a sea view was fantastic and the informality of the bar with dining area on the beach was just right
Review 53:Room was large and well furnished, but well used and needs decoration. Windows are in need of replacement. Squeaky floorboards are quaint but a annoying when you're trying to sleep.
Review 54:Perfect location for walking (and cycling) and town and restaurants just a short walk away. Staff are pleasant and helpful.
Review 55:We statey in a beautiful room overlooking the beach. The staff are very friendly and accomadating. I would definitely recommend this hotel, you won't be disappointed,
Review 56:The only thing that let it down was the young girls service at breakfast and the lack of parking.
Review 57:Everything was fantastic! The website does not do this place justice. The room was great, the staff were good, the location was fantastic and the facilities were great.
Review 58:There was no parking. There is public parking very close, but on a very busy summer Saturday, it was difficult to find a spot.
Review 59:Perfect location, easy to find. My room was spacious as was the bathroom and I had a wonderful seaview. The breakfast was perfect and the terrace at the back overlooking the beach was a huge bonus.
Review 60:Our room had a balcony overlooking the sea, nice friendly staff, a homely feel with great food, we will definitely be staying at The Royal again but for longer next time.
Review 61:Building looking tired, could do with re decoration throughout .would be nice if menu changed sometimes.
Review 62:Staff very friendly and helpful, food reasonably priced, room clean and comfortable.
Review 63:The poor quality of the team served at breakfast - weak and weedy: perfect for Americans, hopeless for us sons of Albion!
Review 64:Sympathetic modernisation of building which retained its historical character; beachfront location; large, comfortable bed; good service. Excellent choice at breakfast. Bar and beachside terrace.
Review 65:After looking forward to staying at this hotel I must say we won't return. The superior room is nice and bright but the one we stayed in(William Pitt)desperately needs decorating!!!one of the windows didn't shut,so you hear all the noise from outside plus the noise from upstairs.I know its an old building but it is impossible to get a good nights sleep as the floor upstairs is soo creaky and we thought there must be a race in the middle of the night and early morning.while on the first morning the lovely manager organised breakfast in room for us we thought 2nd morning we go downstairs for it to see what its like.only got seen after 15 min.waiting and then they forgot to make it.eventually it turned up after asking for it,only to be completely wrong.by that time we were fed up and just wanted to leave. For 280£ I expect a bit more and we left very disappointed what should have been a nice weekend away with our little son.Working in hospitality I'm not one to complain and this is the first time I do but the rating for this hotel is far too high and was one of the reasons we chose it.I wish I spent 280£ on something else.
Review 66:The location is good and food from a la carte menu is very good.some of the staff is excellent.
Review 67:May have seafront location but tree rooms back onto noisy main road. If eating in bar children allowed to chase each other round shooting guns
Review 68:Sea front location
Review 69:Really noisy radiators in bedroom. Parking in paid car park. Service at breakfast was appallingly slow - over 20mins to take first order, ages to deliver food. All the guests around us were also really frustrated by it.
Review 70:Lovely room, historic & interesting building, friendly staff.
Review 71:The hotel is in a great location on the Deal seafront and is a really interesting, historic building. Rooms are comfortable and the food is good. Great if you like something a little old-fashioned.
Review 72:Wonderful location right by the sea and the pier, lovely interior, we enjoyed a large room on the first floor with bathroom sea views. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will definitely go there again when in the area.
Review 73:Nothing much to complain about except it would have been nice to have a mini fridge in the room and also a hand held shower - I sometimes want to wash my hair without taking a shower.
Review 74:Friendly staff, lovely spacious room with balcony almost on the beach, lovely powerful shower, little extras like good quality bathroom minis and bottle of still and fizzy mineral water gratis. It was also lovely to have breakfast brought to our room at no extra cost.
Review 75:The car parking is meter controlled so in summer it could be a bit of a bun fight I am not a lover of sausages that are lightly tanned on the top and pasty white for the rest, they definitely looked undercooked
Review 76:The staff were helpful and efficient, the cooked breakfast is served to you rather than a full buffet The room was large and the bathroom enormous! The hotel is beach side of the road
Review 77:Nothing we didn't like
Review 78:We stayed in the Wellington room. Lovely room with balcony with chairs and table and a heater for night time boat spotting. Breakfast was lovely and we chose to have it on the balcony as it was a lovely sunny morning. Perfect for a night away
Review 79:The food was below average. Pretty tasteless stuff. The ales were not well conditioned in the bar. I wouldn't recommend either.
Review 80:The staff were very friendly and helpful. the location was great, right on the seafront and next to the town. The room was spacious, comfortable and had some character.
Review 81:Upon arrival and afterwards, the receptionist was rude in manner and not welcoming. We were treated like a nuisance to her and not worth the effort to treat politely unlike the other guests. Our only explanation for this behaviour was that she was confused about our booking and therefore irritated by us. This negative experience was totally unnecessary and overshadowed our stay. We would not return to this hotel for that reason.
Review 82:Comfy bed and breakfast.
Review 83:Parking isn't good and it's expensive, perhaps should be included in the room rate.
Review 84:The location is perfect right on the beach and there is so much history assossisted with the hotel, Lord Nelson and Winston Churchill have even stayed there.
Review 85:Breakfast was a bit disorganised - weren't offered toast and everything was a bit slow, though tasty when it arrived.
Review 86:Huge, comfortable stylish room overlooking the shingle beach. Very large comfortable bed. Very quiet. Pleasant atmosphere in the bar.
Review 87:Really struggling to find anything to be constructively critical of. Nasty chip on the bath enamel - slightly tricky and pricey (but understandable) car parking arrangements. That's it - Honestly !!
Review 88:Everything - Perfect Location - Friendly Staff - Good Service - Good Value - Nice intimate Restaurant or Meals in the Bar - Good Beer - Lovely weekend.
Review 89:Wi Fi Unreliable. Ordered a meal from the bar which was rather disappointing the Sirloin steak was as tough as old boots.
Review 90:Great Location , friendly staff , excellent room with sea view.
Review 91:the floorboards under the carpet were very noisy which meant we had a bit of troubles sleeping when people above us were walking not all staff were helpful we could not eat at the restaurant with our dogs however we were able to use the pub area for breakfast and dinner
Review 92:some staff were very friendly and helpful the room was big and comfortable location in front of sea was perfect
Review 93:Was allocated a room with disabled facilities despite booking a standard room well in advance of our stay. (was moved to another room immediately) Lack of parking
Review 94:The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was hot, tasty with a good choice of items Staff are welcoming and friendly
Review 95:Lift is not available. Internet connection was not good.
Review 96:Very closed to Royal Cinque Port Golf Club. Staffs are quite friendly and also breakfast was fine.
Review 97:Family room with kitchen extractor outside (check your room before paying if that would bother you).
Review 98:Gorgeous sea view. Great location. Quite relaxed. Cool staff. Good breakfast (coffee not great but Costa + indie in High St). Perfect for a one night stop if going to France. Deal is a fun town. Recommend Bohemia pub + Borough Wine wine bar.
Review 99:The Wi-Fi is really not up to scratch. icloud is in an out and not satisfactory for a hotel of this class.
Review 100:Excellent hotel. Good food and very friendly and helpful staff
Review 101:Room had 4 bulbs missing. Bathroom was gloomy. Could only see TV if in bed. Breakfast service was non-existent. No lift. No parking except £1 per hour 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. so OK for late arrival and early departure if there is space.
Review 102:The comfort of the bed
Review 103:Food at the Ala carte restraint I'm sorry to say has really gone down hill they simply don't know how to cook
Review 104:The ambiance the staff and the facilities
Review 105:Nothing - it was just what we wanted.
Review 106:A pleasant welcome, a lovely room and the balcony overlooking the beach absolutely wonderful. We watched the sunset and the sunrise and listened to the waves for hours. Can't think of another hotel in Kent right on the beach like that. And we had an excellent dinner downstairs.
Review 107:Water in bathroom took a long time to get hot.No car park.
Review 108:Food was fresh and well prepared.Warm rooms well designed for comfort.Historical information found for us when we enquired at reception.
Review 109:Bacon too crispy. Just joking. There was nothing at all to dislike about this place.
Review 110:Old world charm, updated to good modern comforts. Good bar/restaurant/breakfast. Lots of space in the room (Bronte suite).
Review 111:We booked fairly late so the room we were allocated was in the back of the hotel. We would have preferred a sea view. Other than that no complaints.
Review 112:The staff were very friendly and very helpful. The breakfast was really nicely cooked and plentiful. The hotel itself was well kept, bed linen excellent, loads of bath products.
Review 113:Three flights of quite steep stairs could be a problem for those with limited mobility so be sure to mention this when booking in order to secure a room on the lower floors. Public car park next to the hotel is very convenient but don't forget to feed the meter!
Review 114:The hotel is in an excellent location and close to everything that Deal has to offer. The staff are pleasant and helpful, rooms are quirky but well appointed and lovely and clean. Very pleasant bar and lounge area with a nice selection of food available throughout the day.
Review 115:Received a free upgrade on first night due to room availability however stand up shower tap was broken and water only Luke warm at 0940am which was disappointing for a hotel of this standard.
Review 116:Location, Facilities, Food Quality, Staff.
Review 117:there was nothing not to like as far as we were concerned.
Review 118:The huge fireplace with a lovely fire lit at 5pm in the afternoon on a cold November day. Receptionist was very welcoming. The room, which was a "standard" double was spacious, clean and had everything that you could possibly need right down to hair conditioner. We will definitely be back - I have hinted for a honeymoon there in one of the sea view rooms!!! We'll see!?
Review 119:i've stopped here several times now everything is really good except! us travellers are not reptiles! we dont need our beds at a constant 30c even with the radiators of the room is incomfortably warm which makes for an uncomfortable nights sleep. this is not just this hotel but all hotels i stop in!
Review 120:really nice rooms bar and restuarant
Review 121:Couldn't get on line, but no biggie!
Review 122:Location! Seeing sunrise over Deal pier...Awesome... Friendly helpful staff. Nice ambience in the hotel... Tasty fresh cooked breakfast.
Review 123:Breakfast service was poor.I'm a profesional myself in theindustry.the two staff didnt have a clue.first half hour to get coffeeand toast where only 3 tables were sat.My fried egg was hard when itshould be runny.not Gd value for money.
Review 124:Lovely location and room.staff very professional atreception.very clean.
Review 125:Very poor Wi-Fi.
Review 126:Staff friendly and helpful. Room excellent, very modern and comfortable. Even provided with fresh milk in room. Bar food really good and reasonably priced. Didn't get the chance to try the restaurant.
Review 127:No parking, only public although adjacent to the Hotel costs £1.00 per hour. It is a pity that the Hotel cannot make an arrangement with the Council
Review 128:Convenience for the local amenities, beach, pier etc. Very comfortable ambiance.
Review 129:We were in the Hardy, and the floorboards were quite creaky in places. Didn't bother me, but I felt sorry for the people below us.
Review 130:Size of the room. Quietness of the room. Good strong wifi signal even though we were in the Gods. Huge breakfast and very nice too. Staff extremely polite, especially the breakfast guy.
Review 131:Need some form of locking mechanism or chain on inside of door. Know can only be opened by key but felt slightly vulnerable as was on my own.
Review 132:Could not be closer to the sea. Friendly staff appreciated as was elderly woman on my own. Warm, comfortable and traditional.
Review 133:Lighting far too dim in the room...
Review 134:Beautiful decor. V comfy bed. Stunning sea view. Excellent location for vintage shops. Spotlessly clean. Pleasant staff.
Review 135:The family room was really big, this was really good for our young baby. The staff were all very helpful and always good for a chat about the area and life in general. The facilities were good and the fact we could have a travel cot set up in our room before our arrival was one less thing for to worry about.
Review 136:No hotel car park, very surprised and disappointed that there wasn't a fridge in the bedrooms - particularly given that one of our rooms was a luxury balcony room
Review 137:Brilliant location, Friendliness of staff,
Review 138:All good.
Review 139:Great location for the beach, excellent views, close to local amenities of shops, pubs and cafes. Car park outside hotel with reasonable rates. Staff very professional and friendly and gave excellent customer service. Lively bar in hotel. Interesting foyer area, good menu choice in hotel bar and in the restaurant
Review 140:A few little things would have made it better. There was nowhere in the bathroom to put down a toilet bag but there is plenty if room for a small table. The light for the bathroom mirror and shaver socket were above the mirror and too high for me to reach. Little things but for the price should have been thought of.
Review 141:Large, comfortable room with a view and an excellent bed. We stayed in a superior double and would book the same again. Good choice of breakfast and very good service.
The Fine Print
Parking:Public parking is available adjacent to the hotel. There is no hotel parking lot.
