Reviews for Whitehall Guest House
Review 1:We visit many B&Bs/Guest Houses/Hotels & we judge each on its location, cleanliness, food, & shower. Regrettably; The Whitehall Guest House failed miserably on its food & shower - I don't know who told The Whitehall Guest House that it is a four star establishment!!
Review 2:Nothing
Review 3:Fantastic value for money spotless room with all facilities you would get somewhere more expensive, location great right opposite sea, breakfast excellent and Maria very helpful and friendly even lent me her phone charger for the night
Review 4:We noticed an unpleasant odour as we walked in. This was all the way upstairs and worse in our bedroom. I believe this was mentioned in a previous review and certainly not air freshener as suggested. Bathroom floor was uneven. We were booked for 2 nights but only stayed for one. The view was someones back yard and we didn't find the car park although we didn't ask as there was plenty of room on the street.
Review 5:Appearance was clean and tidy. Breakfast starters layout immaculate.
Review 6:My bed was uncomfortable, room was cold, shower didnt work first day, didnt mind the furbishments being dated but it was not value for money at all. Couldnt have breakfast the first morning as I was leaving at 7.45 am and no offers of alternatives. Was overcharged when i left but this was quickly corrected. I wouldnt stay again. i also didnt feel welcomed as a paying guest and had to ask about why i didnt have the room I had initially booked which was an annexe ground floor room not the room upstairs as I stayed in. Disappointing and a 4 star AA which was most surprising!
Review 7:The location was excellent and on the promenade which had fab views
Review 8:No one around on the reception when we arrived ..had to ring up and we were told strictly 3 o'clock checking in time .. But we could check in on this one occasion at 1.30
Review 9:Lovely room and view. Very nice and pleasant staff
Review 10:Steep steps at front door could do with grab rails to assist elderly clients. No offer of evening meal opportunity. Required to pay upfront!
Review 11:Location excellent. Hand rails and lighting along exterior steps very useful. Breakfast excellent. No parking restrictions.
Review 12:We chose the property because of the on-site parking advertised. However, we were disappointed not be able to park in the car park and we had to park on the roadside.
Review 13:The superior room we booked had fantastic views over the bay. The room was very clean and the bed comfy. The staff were really attentive and breakfast was cooked to order - lovely and fresh.
Review 14:It is close to the sea but a bit far from the station and bus stop to Llandudno
Review 15:Warm and pretty room. Breakfast was also good. We saw the sense of humor in the sign and notice, which made us smile.
Review 16:It wasn't entirely the guest house's fault. But one ignorant guest, took a dislike to my large car,& parked at an angle, taking up 2 vehicle spaces. As I returned late after meeting friends,I had to park & walk to my entry door at the rear of the hotel.I was in agony,I've just had keyhole surgery to left knee,& Right hip replacement,so I'm not supposed to walk far.
Review 17:The efficient way the proprietor welcomed me and my dog.Allocated me a very good practical room,so I could exercise dogs & as I'm disabled it was easy access to my car.The pleasant, happy staff,& I couldn't eat all the breakfast.
Review 18:The room I was allocated smelt damp and of bad drains.Damp showing through walls, paint flaking, and peeling wallpaper. The corridor leading to guest rooms was dark, undecorated with lots of plug-in air fresheners to detract from the drainage problems. This building needs attention.
Review 19:They changed my room, After I complained about the room I was allocated. Breakfast was really good.
Review 20:The warm and friendly welcome we received on arrival and the helpfulness of the staff throughout our stay. Breakfast was second to none with all tastes catered for.
Review 21:the location is perfect as there are so many places that are not to far away. The staff are very eager to please and make you feel welcome. We will definitely go there again
Review 22:The proprietor Maria was so lovely, as was her staff. The patio out front overlooking the sea/bay is a great place to sit and relax. The breakfast to order was excellent. We had personal parking out back, and Maria explained everything we needed to know when we arrived. Felt like home!
Review 23:problem locking the outside door (real struggle) could not get use to it,shower was leaking water from the shower casing.the
Review 24:the annexe room was very comfortuble and quiet, with plenty of sun in the evening.the staff was very friendly and polite and the breakfast was very good.
Review 25:At the end of a 5 hour drive the hotel was not easy to find as we had never been there before. Could have done with directions
Review 26:Watching the sunrise over the sea in the morning.
Review 27:Marie and Tony were excellant hosts they made us very welcome and the places Tony recommended to eat were very good. Our only down side were the pillows were a bit too firm for us,but other wise the beds were comfortable.
Review 28:The shower was an issue - would oscillate from right temperature to scalding every 45 seconds, which made it very difficult to wash your hair. Also, very tight staircase for anyone wanting to go up.
Review 29:The staff and proprietors where very friendly and we were impressed with the level of service. The room was pleasant, fresh and not cramped like some places we have stayed. The breakfast was excellent and sitting on the patio looking at the view was a pleasure.
Review 30:Don't worry about parking behind the hotels private car park as ample parking on side road up by the front gate on your left which is free 24 hour.
Review 31:Nice clean hotel, lovely breakfast situated within easy travel distance between Colwyn bay and llandudno.
Review 32:Bed a bit hard.
Review 33:Bed was a bit hard for me, though I slept well. Maria and staff are lovely. Room was good. Breakfast was good with lots of variety. Great location right on the beach.
Review 34:We booked last minute and there was only one room left and didn't expect anything special but were pleasantly surprised. Couldn't fault the staff, nothing was too much trouble. Everywhere was clean and tidy. We stayed two days I had full breakfasts everything was cooked to perfection.
Review 35:Staff were helpful but too quiet and not particularly welcoming. Service at breakfast lacked warmth and we got the distinct impression that they were watching our children to see that they did not take too much food from the buffet; on one occasion they cleared plates before we had finished eating!
Review 36:Lovely quiet location on sea front. Some rooms with sea views. Comfortable, spacious, clean rooms. Good breakfast with plenty of choice. Free parking. We booked two rooms: a twin room which was very good but could have been excellent were it not for the very weak flow of water from the shower (but it did work and the water was hot) and the noisy central heating, and a family room with a sea view which had a musty smell probably from the carpets.
Review 37:I liked the seating area on the decking in the front garden. It was nice to relax here and gaze out to sea.At night you could observe the various lights for miles all along the coast.
Review 38:Poor beds, especially the second bed - quite uncomfortable, many items in room quite run down. Shower stall leaked, broken items in bathroom. Parking in back - very poor, we often could not park our car - jammed in by a wall...actually scraped our car on the wall. Wi-Fi virtually non-existent. Because of lovely surroundings, we were content, but would not recommend this property.
Review 39:Owner seemed nice, food was excellent, the city was beautiful. The front patio flowers and view were the best part of the hotel.
Review 40:Excellent location. Very clean, comfortable and quiet room with own dedicated parking space by its rear door. Superb breakfasts using local produce c - choice and quality as good as anywhere I have stayed. Would recommend and return.
Review 41:Sofa bed very uncomfortable, noise from road, had to walk all round the roads to car,as back door had no spare keys, some staff were very aburpt
Review 42:Breakfast was good
Review 43:Really close to the dog beach, amazing views and the staff were wonderful. The room was lovely and clean, the bed was comfy and plenty of room for the dog :)
Review 44:Really really helpful and friendly owner. She even dropped me at the college the next morning as I arrived really late and didn't have the number of a local taxi firm.
Review 45:Bathroom door kept swinging open due to a faulty catch.
Review 46:I stayed for two nights in a lovely, spotlessly clean room with a terrific view of the bay. Great breakfast and friendly, knowledgeable owners.
Review 47:Tony and Maria were most accommodating, tony cooked your breakfast to order, a nd a attentive waitress took your order. Also gave you suggestions where to visit in the area.
Review 48:Family room up two steep flights of stairs Also shower was low pressureand a somewhat musty atmosphere in the corridors
Review 49:Just in front of the beach whis is lovely although the promenade isrusting away. It is within easy reach of restaurants and shops in rossat sea- shopping in colwyn bay proper is farther away
Review 50:shower was difficult to use and eventually only luke warm
Review 51:right on the bay with a deck overlooking the sea. brilliant breakfast great value for money
Review 52:Wifi a bit slow. Water in shower didnt have good pressure.
Review 53:Best location possible, Breakfast was excellent and filling. Small room yet all possible facilities were there. Very cost effective considering it was a long weekend and we had booked quite late.
Review 54:No bad experiences but it would have been nice to have Wi-Fi in the rooms.
Review 55:The staff were very helpful and moved us to a more expensive sea-view room when the television in our room did not work. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 56:When we first checked in I was told to put the dogs in the car when we were going to have breakfast as the last persons dog had ruined the room. I argued with this point and got very upset that they call it a pet friendly room yet dogs can't stay in there for 30 mins unattended. So the dogs stayed in the room and everything was fine.
Review 57:I enjoyed the amazing views and how close the place was to th beach. The breakfast was amazing too!
Review 58:Rooms a bit dated but did not put me off the place at all
Review 59:I pre booked parking as recommended so that helped and I would recommend other visitors to do the same. Maria and Tony were great hosts and could not do enough breakfast time
Review 60:No problems.
Review 61:Walking the Wales Coast Path out of season, I was the only guest. My room was warm, clean and comfortable. An excellent full breakfast was laid on for me.
Review 62:Location of the room : I chose double room - Annex. The room is in the back close to small parking space. Convenient to bring in your luggage, but the room is actually a fire exit passage. The door of the room is a fire exit door so you get a special key for that. So if there is a fire, I understand people wil come through your room to get out...something to know when you choose your room
Review 63:Location: on the bay Welcome: family of the owners. Nice man Breakfast: good Parking space: only 2-3 spots in the back of hotel but apparently you can leave the car in the street front of the hotel Price: value for money. We were the only guests Old fashionned style guest house but good for for our one night stay
Review 64:A bit of TLC to the decor wouldn't go amiss.
Review 65:Well placed for our purpose of visiting the area. Very friendly on arrival, and guest house was clean and tidy.
Review 66:The staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough form me, the breakfast was lovely and filling, My room was nice and big, the heating was on my room was always warm. The hotel is very traditional and that's the way i like them.Jerry "the receptionist" even gave me a lift up to the station. 1st class
Review 67:Although guest houses that allow dogs are rare, this is not the place to come with your dog. You are put in a grotty room tucked away at the back, with peeling wallpaper and a general air of dinginess. The dog has to come in through the fire escape, which can't be closed from the outside, so to take your dog for a walk you have to take him outside, tie him up, go out throught the front door, walk round the (large) block, and retrieve the dog - the reverse when you want to come in, of course. There is no window and the fire escape has frosted glass, so you can't even see the dismal yard outside. It's like an open prison.
Review 68:Quiet Good breakfast
Review 69:The Room musty and damp beds awful and like sleeping on a rock The toilet and sink were leaking it took 3 days to sort out. There was steps that were to high for people with disabilities like me. also no shelves to put anything in the bathroom. the whole place needs renovating, and the dampness sorting out.
Review 70:The view from our room. The Breakfast's were very good.
Review 71:We were hoping to dine at the hotel in the evening however the restaurant was shut to give the owners a rest (very understandable considering theres only two of them) we went to the local italian and it costs the same as our room for a meal for two - it would have been half that price at the hotel itself. Its a shame the owners couldnt get in a cover chef to give themselves a break more often and keep dinner going. Im looking forward to it on our next visit!
Review 72:Very clean, beautiful room and we had the most fantastic view of the bay! Everything within walking distance and a top class breakfast. Theres also a bar and a good selection of dvds to borrow and watch in your room (which is nice if you want a break from walking!) Lots to do in the area, id definately recommend.
Review 73:That we stressed out the manager lady by losing her key, it's ok though we found it again.
Review 74:Breakfasts. Location. Ease. Lounge. Decking with seating overlooking the sea.
Review 75:The only huge downfall is that we found is not nothing to do with the hotel! but the town as after 6pm its very hard to find some were to eat the town closes down at 6pm ish, the local pub stops serving at 5pm, we wouldn't recommend the chinese takeaway at all my hubby had a chicken omelette which was wafer thin filled with a bit of chicken onions and peas it was disgusting!
Review 76:The hotel was very clean, the staff were amazing and very friendly nothing was to much trouble for them, the breakfasts are way above excellent the choice you have is outstanding and everything is cooked fresh and just the way you request it to be, the breakfast buffet table is excellent too the choices on there are superb and as soon as some thing is empty its filled right back up the tea and coffee are flowing as soon as your cups are empty its 100% silver service. The hotel management is excellent on arrival your shown round your room and showed were the tea/coffee/milk/cream is so you can help yourself and the rooms were cleaned daily. We highly recommend a stay hear.
Review 77:Really there wasn't anything we didn't like. A few points though: In the information book in room they have a menu does clearly state meals need to be ordered on the morning for same day. However they also have another menu in there offering snacks and quick meals which they say you can order when you want. As they like to prepare and cook from fresh they said they didn't do this. So perhaps remove that menu from the book to avoid confusion. There are places to eat in Rhos, within walking distance. Also the only other thing was that the tiles were broken in bathroom and cobwebs on ceiling. Sorry but as you are a 4 star just pointing out these areas. Still enjoyed our stay though.
Review 78:Friendly staff. Good size room, did have a sea view although only a small window which looked out onto yard, but was able to see the sea. Good size ensuite too. Plenty of tea and coffee replenished every day and if needed you were able to get more from reception. Plenty of choice for breakfast. Tried their Canadian Surprise which was lovely. Fresh fruit and pastrys on hand too. Tony and Maria were very accommodating. We were able to park but I had asked before we went if we needed to reserve a space. Which they ensured we did have a space. Bed was comfortable and lovely pillows. Would recommend this hotel to others definitely.
Review 79:The guest house was great with a wonderful view of the beach. Staff were lovely and welcoming, and Maria the host was so so warm and affectionate. She really made us feel at home !
Review 80:The staff were keen to rush you out of the breakfast room. I felt pestered to finish quickly. I found that the staff were quite rude to a girl who I believe was on her first or second shift. I found a slug on my bathroom floor. Only one day out of 5 I had clean towels. The skirting board was dirty as was the ledge around the window. The curtains didn't draw easily and if you wanted the wardrobe door to open, the top draw opened as well.
Review 81:Nice breakfast. Lots of tea, coffee and milk etc. available. T.V. in the room.
Review 82:room 10 black mould on ceilling in shower room broken tiles on base of shower and extensive cobwebs throughout the room.interior of hotel just felt very tired
Review 83:location was fine, handy for town and parking.
Review 84:Room 4 a little tired. Could see where things had been updated ie new flat screen tv but holes in the wall from the old wall bracket. New fire doors fitted but decor not touched up yet. Bathroom wall had cardboard fitted where tiles had been previously. This stuck with tape. Shame it just detracted from what is a lovely place and has a wonderful family feel. However, despite what sounds like complaints, I would go back. Once the repairs are done completely it'll be the cracking place it deserves to be.
Review 85:Friendly staff, lovely breakfast, convenient for town, close to beach and promenade. Very warm welcome from owners and all their staff. Saw the staff greeting regulars back and it was a lovely, genuine warm welcome.
Review 86:we had the last room and it was small to what we are use to. in need of updating which is happening next year
Review 87:breakfast friendliness of staff and owners view from the front patio location. listening to tales from the owner we felt comfortable there
Review 88:The décor was dated, we hated the carpet & bath / toilet mats in the bathroom, Couldn't reach the taps in the bath as the shower screen is fitted too close to the sink! Couldn't open windows, so the room was stuffy! & couldn't plug the air conditioner unit in without moving furniture!
Review 89:Our room was spacious & the bed was comfortable, We enjoyed the sea view, the guest house facilities were very good. Especially the outside seating area. This guest house caters for the more mature customer!
