Reviews for Haven Hotel and Spa
Review 1:Girl spraying tables with chemicals to clean them right next to me while I was srill eating :-(
Review 2:Lovely receptionist very helpful Great views, tasty breakfast
Review 3:the lift was to small for a disabled person in a wheel chair don't go to this hotel near xmas busy with xmas partys
Review 4:the food was ok if you like that sort of food
Review 5:The booking and pricing for same was a nightmare. The best final price was not the best one as shown by yourselves, or the one that was accepted by the hotel, but by then it was was too late for the dates we required to celebrate at any other time
Review 6:The hotel and it's location.
Review 7:I had booked two single rooms and my room had a view onto the internal workings of the hotel. Noisy generator all night. Also, on checking out an extra £1 had been added to the room cost without explanation. When I queried this I was told it was it was for a local children's charity but there was no information about this in reception.
Review 8:The location and breakfast
Review 9:The internal room was a bad choice next time we will book a room with sea views and or balcony. Budget room confined and a bit tired. However the plus made it forgetable at breakfast and dinner.
Review 10:The staff were attentive at all times in particular the dining staff. We stayed late on Friday lunch in the restaurant the last to leave with no issue or feeling rushed to go. A credit to the hotel. We will be back soon.
Review 11:Great location and we enjoyed the spa facilities too. It's a lovely hotel with a great atmosphere too. Would definitely come back but in summer next time!
Review 12:Staff were very pleasant. Seaview room with a balcony had an amazing view overlooking the coast and the sea. Outdoor pool was open even in January and there was an outdoor hot tub overlooking the beach. Spa facilities were well equipped.
Review 13:like a lot of these tired English coastal hotels- it badly needs up- dating and some TLC Not having SKY TV is a real negative in this day and age
Review 14:excellent location , courteous and helpful staff & decent breakfast included
Review 15:Hotel looked tired used to stay here years ago and it has gone downhill. Corridors and some of the rooms were very poor. No toiletries in room and to get to our room was a truck up three flights and right across the hotel through a cold and rather damp smelling stairway. Decided to eat out as only three things on the menus and allergic to fish so only choice of vegetarian or lamb.
Review 16:Location, helpful staff,outdoor pool.
Review 17:Not many of the small jacuzzis worked. Warm not cold shower beside steam room/sauna.I like to use a cold one but the outdoor pool did the job!
Review 18:Lovely spa facilities. Excellent breakfast. Quick check in with well staffed reception.
Review 19:I found the leisure facilities (swimming pool etc) disappointing and the staff in this area weren't very helpful either, I did manage to find a very nice lady eventually (cleaner) who helped me with the hot tub!
Review 20:Nice spacious room. Lovely location and view. Some friendly and helpful staff.
Review 21:Body scrub in the spa was ok literally put scrub on I had to shower and cream was applied £50 too expensive but the facial with a different beautition was very relaxing
Review 22:Indoor and outdoor pool open even at night (outdoor) steam sauna and spa and exercise class included in room rate, huge balcony overlooking the sea great view
Review 23:It is an amazing place to stay. Have stayed there on three previous occasions, our 27th Wedding Anniversary, my husband's 50th Birthday and Christmas! Lovely setting, relaxing and a must for anyone who enjoys sea views and amazing food and staff that can't do enough for you! :-)
Review 24:Odd arrangement of furniture: huge wardrobe ate a lot of room making the bedroom smaller than it could have been ; really hot at night, no means to control the temperature
Review 25:Good bathroom facilities
Review 26:We didn't sleep 1st night, room 115 too hot & opening the window for air meant very noisy hotel extractor just outside kept us awake. Dirty window blind. 2 lights off in next room we moved to. 255 ?
Review 27:The meal in the restaurant on Saturday was delicious ! Excellent chefs! Better quality than breakfast, which was OK. All hotel staff were helpful and some were delightful( bar staff & restaurant staff )
Review 28:See above
Review 29:The room we had to change as veiw was not as promised, the food was great but expensive,40 per head with no dessert !As there was a Christmas function and the noise in room 112 was so loud we may have been at the function!
Review 30:Room small, slightly noisy as overlooking air con units and very hot.
Review 31:The spa was lovely, especially the heated outdoor pool. Breakfast very good selection.
Review 32:Dirty toilet Dirty bath Spider webs on ceilings Couldn't Evan sit on the chairs on balcony. Wedding party on till early hours of morning Unwelcoming reception
Review 33:Breakfast!
Review 34:Buffet breakfast is not great but the a la carte natural smoked haddock and poached eggs were excellent.
Review 35:Great bedroom with balcony and sea view. Bar very friendly.
Review 36:We had a very poor meal on the first night, waiters were rude and unhelpful. Breakfast comprises of a buffet which is kept warm under a series of lamps which tended to dry out all of the food. We also noticed that there was a large piece of combi board between the mattress and bed base, obviously the base was damaged....not what you'd expect from a four star hotel!!!!
Review 37:location
Review 38:The whole place is tired and in need of a complete overhaul. Our dining table and burn marks in the middle. The carpets are threadbare in places. At the weekend there were parties on both Friday & Saturday night. Noisy & no parking for guests . At dinner the starters were excellent, the main course was dried up pasta, bland chicken with an insipid sauce. We only ate it because it was late & we were hungry. It may tick the boxes required for 4* but not really.
Review 39:Good location. Helpful staff
Review 40:There was a Xmas party on and was a bit noisy ,but we realise that is to be expected this time of year.Stopped soon after midnight so no problem.
Review 41:Location perfect.Spa facilities excellent,restaurant good.
Review 42:Spa water looked murky. Chilly, Antiquated and needed a revamp. Wasn't the relaxation I expected. Asked for Rye bread for toast instead of what was obviously processed sliced white or sliced wholemeal available but got a packet of Ryvita given to me instead.
Review 43:Friendliness of staff
Review 44:Staff is a bit unhelpful. Cleaning lady came into the room at 7.45am, front desk was apologetic but took no perceivable action. Restaurant staff seemed to favour serving more affluent looking clients (from my perception) serving them coffee and tea, but directing us to a self service machine. Food was good though.
Review 45:Nice location, good breakfast included.
Review 46:There was nothing we didn't like
Review 47:Enjoyed a long weekend with my daughter. Very relaxing. Very friendly helpful staff and very comfortable. Enjoyed the spa and log fire.
Review 48:The hotel is looking very tired it needs an update. The sofas in the lounge area looked threadbare!!!
Review 49:The location is fantastic. The staff in the bar we're very friendly. Reception staff were attentive. Pool and spa excellent .
Review 50:The only thing negative to say is that the furniture on the balcony had seen better days, the table was a little warped and you could not use it to put your glass of wine on!
Review 51:The location was great - in the summertime it must be excellent!!! Food was wonderful.
Review 52:Over bath shower with no grips on bath or wall and glass panel which folded into bath and hard to get around. I have arthritis and had to avoid showering or having a bath. I was told that the only rooms ŵith walk in showers are the suites. Flickering LED in ceiling annoying. Reported to staff but it was not fixed. Bar areas a little jaded
Review 53:Location Pleasant, modern room with 2 chairs Comfortable bed.
Review 54:The soundproofing between the rooms was very bad. The next room put their TV on at 6am which woke me up and I could hear every word. There were not enough staff at reception when checking out. I queued for a few minutes and there were still two people in front of me. In the end I had to tell the receptionist that I was leaving my key on the side because I had to travel back home to get to work and she wasn't very friendly.
Review 55:The location is excellent right by the Sandbanks chain ferry. The breakfast is excellent and you can look out over the sea from the breakfast room. The main reason I come here is for the spa which has indoor bubble pools, sauna, jacuzzi, steam room and outdoor swimming pool and is great to spend a few hours relaxing.
Review 56:bathroom.................it was very tired , the basin had cigarette stains round the edge , it had a huge crack running across it , there were tiles missing from the bath panel - altogether I would expect more as I stay in quite a few hotels and this area fell well short of the quality I am used too even in less prestigious establishments I'm afraid
Review 57:location , nice room , fantastic view
Review 58:The water of the bubble water was cold, it was unpleasant to sit for more than a couple of minutes. The main lounge inside was also underheated.
Review 59:The view from the dining room was stunning.
Review 60:Reception area needs to be altered as there was a queue on the stairs to get to the desk. Not good first impression. Our bedroom on the first floor was above the kitchen so waft of smells. The room above us had thin ceilings could hear their conversation amongst other things!! When they had a shower or flushed the toilet you could hear the water running through the system.
Review 61:Lovely view of the sea from our bedroom window. Breakfast was good
Review 62:Start of stay- shower was freezing. Complained to manager who was going to get engineer out. Later she phoned the room to say it was fixed. Morning- shower freezing. Complained again before breakfast and was told the manager would be in contact before I checked out. I checked out and nothing was said.
Review 63:Stunning Location.
Review 64:The heating did not come on until 6 pm, so room cold through the day & the towels on radiator did not dry because of this. The bar/lounge also cold through the day & during evening so made it uncomfortable. Indoor pool too small to swim properly. Spa did not offer robes (never known this before).
Review 65:Location excellent, lovely views. Rooms were nice.
Review 66:The heating was not working in the bar lounge or the dining room. I was cold. I had ordered a single cake last week, for teatime and it wasn't ready. We were not impressed with that, as my husband didn't really want a cake after two courses at dinner.
Review 67:Tired old place needs TLC and replace the bedding please it was not very clean and was smelly, beside laundering the covers duvets and pillows need throwing evey 6 months you just don't know what is growing in them. The breakfast buffet is always stale food.
Review 68:Position is great with good parking as well
Review 69:The only thing I can comment on is that you have to go through the restaurant to use the spa. Didn't feel comfortable doing that during breakfast and lunch. Although many people did
Review 70:Stayed here with my partner for a birthday weekend. Our room had a stunning view over the harbour. We are in the restaurant on the Saturday night the food was first class the service too would highly recommend and am hoping to go back very soon. An excellent break
Review 71:When i booked this hotel i stipulated my dietary requirements, i was told that would be catered for, it was not and was advised by the reception staff that i needed to go sort it out myself with the kitchen staff, considering this is rated a 3-4 star , the service was awful. The paintwork and decor needs updating, the soundproofing non existent , beds are very small.
Review 72:The hotel is situated right on the seafront, the facilities are great, but the hygiene in the locker rooms has alot to be desired. The breakfast buffet great with lots of choice
Review 73:The walls in our bedroom were so thin we could hear everything in other rooms!!! The dining room carpet was very dirty and stained. Food selection at breakfast only average. Hotel decor is dated and needs refurbishing.
Review 74:The location near to the sea is excellent. The staff were polite and helpful.
Review 75:Spa were difficult about giving us robes and we were sent back and forth from reception to Spa reception. In the end we had to walk through the breakfast room just wearing towels. Not ideal.
Review 76:Staff were lovely. Location near the ferry over to Studland beach was great. Excellent food from the restaurant both breakfast and dinner.
Review 77:Mattress no support, dinner very small portions for the cost and only luke warm .Waitress tried to say our pork was duck !!! And give plates to the wrong couple at the next table.
Review 78:Location, facilities, parking. Breakfast excellent, lots of choice and not rushed.Spa good.
Review 79:Shower was not very powerful this seems to be a regular complaint in all hotels these days, probably some health and Safety rule restricting water flow at high temperatures.
Review 80:Wifi connectivity was terrible. Only just a connection if stood right at the bedroom door. Location of room was noisy it was a harbour view room but all that meant was you hear the ferry all night and day!! Room was clean but missing some luxery finish. Bathroom door was missing the hook on the back, the lock fell out...
Review 81:1) Swimming pool is outside (play pool is indoors). It was supposedly heated but was so cold we couldn't stay in it and we're fairly hardy. 2)on the second night we could only get a table in the restaurant that was squeezed in a corner by a fire exit, fire extinguisher and an unused food chiller. It turns out that they don't always have enough space for hotel guests.
Review 82:1) Location is superb. 2) The food in the restaurant for dinner
Review 83:They need to sort out the bar area Not very welcoming and needs updating Won't go back because of this Like to sit and relax with a beer Went to The sister hotel Harbour Height and would stay there if I was going back To sandbanks There is nothing in sandbanks if you want to walk to bars or restaurants only hotels
Review 84:Staff great and fantastic location
Review 85:Room decor and furniture was very dated and carpet was stained.
Review 86:The service was excellent. Very helpful. Restaurant and Bar areas very modern and we'll presented. Good wifi and Smart TV in room.
Review 87:The mattress was too soft
Review 88:The location was exceptional and all the staff were very friendly and nothing we asked was too much for them. We will definitely return.
Review 89:Bedrooms are cramped and uncomfortable. They stock the rooms with the cheapest, thinnest pillows you can find whilst also being lumpy. Really uncomfortable. No fridge, bathrobes or things you'd expect when paying nearly £200 a night. There isn't even fresh coffee at breakfast (you have to use a cheap machine). Staff were quite happy to watch us struggle with the baby and pram get up steps and try and navigate breakfast with one hand.
Review 90:Great location with amazing views Nice outdoor pool overlooking the sea
Review 91:You need to book early for a table for dinner if the hotel is full.
Review 92:Excellent views over the Poole harbour entrance. Very clean and spacious rooms. Easy to get to the many local attractions. Quiet after the sun had gone down.
Review 93:No-one to help with luggage up stairs. we extended our trip at booking in with one night but received an uncomfortable call on the last day that there was no record of it. It was sorted but not a pleasant experience. Restaurant service on last evening was totally opposite of previous nights excellent service.
Review 94:The room view and the service at the restaurant the first two nights
Review 95:There was a limited choice of meals on the menu at the Peninsular Bar. Why not include a chicken salad or similar.
Review 96:Breakfast was excellent, both in range and quality of the food and the sea view from both room and restaurant was fabulous.
Review 97:Like most hotels the rooms don't come up to scratch; (room 220) lots of silly things like spare toilet roll holder falls apart, part of bath panel falling apart, sink takes forever to drain, balcony dirty, sealed vanity kit was open as had already been used by someone else, light bulb not working but the worst of all was that we didn't sleep for the duration of our stay due to noisy air con or extractor fans coming on approx every 1 - 2 hours for about 3 mins. This was reported the afternoon we arrived but they didnt solve the problem despite disconnecting our heating/air con. Management weren't very good communicators with ourselves or their staff - we had to ask for some alternative heating - they didnt seem to realsie we'd need it! No offer to change rooms, or money off, or even a bottle of wine by way of apology.
Review 98:Public areas are great. Spa is excellent although the indoor pool is just jacuzzi area really (no room to swim). Massage by Jessica (?) was brilliant - I felt amazing afterwaqrds. All staff in spa, reception, bars, restaurants are excellent. Good selection for breakfast, you can order healthier options such as porridge or poached eggs. Beds are very comfy. Lots of free parking for guests. Tip: Make sure you ask for the gate code to be able to get onto the beach!
Review 99:Some furniture slightly old, e.g bath had a few black marks inside it.
Review 100:Friendly staff; helpful and accommodating. Beautiful views from balcony in our bedroom. A very peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.
Review 101:Position, service, food and comfort were exactly as I was expecting. We chose this venue for our small wedding lunch/reception and were not disappointed.
Review 102:Had to wait for over an hour for 2 robes to go down to the pool because the laundry hadn't come back. At these prices they need to buy in more robes. Only a little moan but a moan nonetheless.
Review 103:The room had a beautiful view. The evening meal was superb. Breakfast in our room was fantastic.
Review 104:the lifts and some corridor areas need more attention from the cleaning staff
Review 105:just wonderful, too nice to be on your own, the facilities, the dining room and the location makes it an unbeatable place for a romantic stay, charming place
Review 106:Spa facilities were stretched to over capacity. No bathrobes in either the room or at the spa. Indoor pool is very small. Evening meal is no more than average. Rooms are the size of an old cruise liner.
Review 107:Glorious location
Review 108:Only problem was the ferry on Sunday morning..it was very foggy first thing so I was woken at 7 with a very loud foghorn. Also England got knocked out of the RWC2015..not the hotels fault :)
Review 109:Great location lovely sandy beaches and facilities at hotel, spa, sauna etc..
Review 110:Our double bed was 2 singles put together which wasn't very comfortable. The pool and spa area were really cold so we complained, and have since been told it's been fixed. Again the staff are very good to address your concerns.
Review 111:The location is unbeatable. The staff are really helpful and friendly and the hotel is very clean. The breakfast is excellent too!
Review 112:Very old fashion furniture in the rooms but in keeping, I had a sea view room but was not easy to see the sea
Review 113:Lovely old hotel the best location ever next to the sand banks ferry on the water edge
Review 114:Nothing
Review 115:Staff were welcoming and helpful. We loved our room with a balcony facing the harbour, we enjoyed walking a long the beach. Food was good as well.
Review 116:Staff seemed inexperienced and so the service was slow, inconsistent and inefficient The portions in the restaurant were small and there was a long wait between courses
Review 117:The stunning location
Review 118:1) Room 128 with engine noise all night every night and the noise from the function on Saturday night. Ear plugs for this room would be a suggestion or make it extremely cheap with the reason for that explained. 2) The lack of a table to eat a meal at in the bar other than a low coffee table. Why could the breakfast room not be used? 3) No chance to book a table for dinner even though I requested this after booking the accommodation. The receptionist promised some help from the bar staff to find a table when food had been ordered - it did not happen. 4) Not really an indoor pool for swimming purposes and the outdoor pool was colder than usual according to others who have been in December. 5) No body moisturiser provided which is usual in even hotels of a less standard.
Review 119:The location and the good weather made it worthwhile.
Review 120:Disappointed with unchanged daytime and evening menu. Unfortunately, we had very loud conference guests who had little or no consideration for other guests relaxation or meals they were trying to enjoy.
Review 121:Location, hotel facilities, helpful staff, access to beach and watching marine traffic. Breakfast was very enjoyable.
Review 122:indoor pool was closed, following day was open but quite cold as door was left open, needed to ask to have spa activated, indoor pool needs tiles fixing, not just patched up here & there, makes it look & feel scruffy... only sliced bread at breakfast, not much choice ( other hotels have multiple types)
Review 123:relaxing!
Review 124:only 2 parking spaces for disabled which meant we had to walk from the front. No walk in shower for my disabled mum so had to go to spa to shower her. Asked for rooms next to each other but we're 2 apart. No air con so had window open but the ferry kept us awake until very late and woke us up very early.
Review 125:The view
Review 126:Think the property should have a hull refurb by now as only some bedrooms done still .. Just a little bit of tlc like the harbour heights is more modern then would be perfect ..
Review 127:Always love the setting
Review 128:Parking was difficult as there were weddings (4) and a funeral. Hence reluctant to lose one's spot and use car for trips around!
Review 129:Dining staff were very efficient and courteous. In fact, all staff were exceptional.
Review 130:As good as i expected apart from the room was very very tired carpet thread bare, mattress collapsed on the edges, both armchairs very badly worn and greasy
Review 131:Bedroom 225 was not good I had it doe solo use but a couple would not have fitted in. Bathroom is so small Lots of carpets stains in hotel needs a real overhaul
Review 132:Location was the main reason for choosing it
Review 133:We recently went to The Haven for a luxury break. What a disappointment this hotel was during our 5 day stay. Its such a shame given its fantastic location. The staff were generally very unattentive even arrogant on occasions. Our sea view room was very tired looking but not too bad, bed not very comfortable and soundproofing not very good, The Pool area was very poor, spa area pools were very dirty and badly maintained. Hot tub was truly disgusting!! Food was of very average quality, at very high prices and most unfriendly service. Too many jobs worths with a poor attitude, this place is really in need of a real shake up top to bottom.
Review 134:Location is fantastic anazing views and proximity to beaches is superb, The Hotel Reception and domestic staff were also very polite and helpful unlike the catering and bar staff.
Review 135:Mixed customer experience with staff on reception and in restaurant. No Wifi connection in room. Our menu was not updated with additional costs for breakfast with cheap unpleasant orange juice served.
Review 136:Great location with parking onsite. Nice room with balcony looking over harbour and a really comfy big bed! Dinner in the restaurant was great with excellent customer service.
Review 137:Ridiculous hike to the room as the lift didn't go to our floor, seriously! Hotel is a little old fashioned and in need of an overhaul.
Review 138:Great location and friendly staff.
Review 139:we really enjoy the hole stay especially the food it was fantastic .The staff were very helpful an the location was superb .We were sad to leave but hope to return soon
Review 140:Being vegan, asked for vegan b'fast on booking - but in common with the Sandbanks, no margarine is ever considered for your toast/bread. It's easy to buy 'Pure' for example. Otherwise the breakfast was very good. There is a stale, musty smell on the stairs and in the room corridors more noticeable the higher you go up - maybe caused in part by water damage on the staircase ceiling. Friendly, helpful reception - but no knowledge or info on the ferries/boat trips etc.
Review 141:The Haven spa - wonderful pools and friendly, helpful staff. Great choice for breakfast - the poached apricots with cardamom, pears in vanilla and star anise, fab and had veggie/vegan sausages too. Wonderful views - always interesting, even if weather not great - (but it was!) W
The Fine Print
Please note that some noise may be experienced in the rooms on weekends. Please note that there is no elevator access to some sections of the third floor.
