Reviews for Sculthorpe Mill
Review 1:The Mill has the most lovely dining room overlooking the river. The food and wine were excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. We had Room 1 which was clean and spacious and we found the beds very comfortable.
Review 2:This place has SO much potential - amazing surroundings, beautiful mill.. but it's sadly a little run down & needs doing up. The bathroom has no window and the ventilation is poor so it gets very hot!
Review 3:The staff were absolutely lovely, and the breakfast was brilliant - all made to order. The bed was comfy and made for a good nights sleep.
Review 4:The path drove me to car park from main road was narrow, only one lane. The bushes are close to road, which nicked my car on its side.
Review 5:The quiet green ambient with brook was gorgeous and the old mill building with the nice garden, too.
Review 6:Nothing in particular - its a characterful Old property which maybe could benefit from freshening up in some areas.
Review 7:Delightful peaceful location. Warm welcome and good food
Review 8:There was a load of hair left on the tiles in the bathroom which had not been cleaned off which was a real shame as on the whole I was happy with the room.
Review 9:The staff were friendly and helpful. The gardens are lovely and well kept and with the location right by the water, this sold it for me. The decor and poor quality of paint in some areas make the bar and dining areas look very tired and much could be done to improve the general cosines and feel of the place. The bedroom was comfortable and had recently had some decorating which was partly unfinished to one window frame. Bed was very comfortable.
Review 10:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was excellent and freshly prepared. Very quiet location so no problem with noisy traffic. Lovely views over the countryside.
Review 11:My husband had the jelly as a pudding and we felt it was a little over priced for what it was, however this is just being picky as the rest of our food was wonderful.
Review 12:The location of this hotel / mill is fantastic, we had wonderful weather so it was lovely to have the windows open and hear all the sounds of the country. The food and staff were both wonderful
Review 13:Cracked sink in bedroom 2.Dinner overpriced. Policy of additional prices for vegetables not appreciated if it means extra £3 for anaemic, oldish chips. Overall tasty generous breakfast let down by 50% inedible bacon in with the good stuff! (Too long under lamps?)
Review 14:Friendly, courteous staff for whom nothing was too much trouble (we dined separately with large dog), pretty , quiet location, large comfy bed and character bedroom with beams.
Review 15:Unfriendly manager. Room the size of a shoe-box. Very overpriced for size of room. Unable to stand up in the shower because of low ceiling. Feet stuck out of end of bed (I am over 6 foot tall). Heavy duvet - winter weight. Rude manager when I told him I thought he shood have charged a bit less, seeing the tiny room.
Review 16:Single room, room 6, was tiny and shabby. Very hot and no fan was provided. Bright light in thr beer garden on right outside my window until late.
Review 17:Beautiful setting. Staff let me cut my stay short due to dissatisfaction with the room.
Review 18:Warm and friendly staff; beautiful character inn with beams everywhere; peaceful location on river with views from all rooms; excellent breakfasts; good food, wine, and real ales; comfortable and quirky rooms; beautiful gardens; great wildlife (we saw a water vole in the garden!).
Review 19:Food service stops quite early on a Sunday. Too much 'character' (read sloping rooves / low beams) for anyone over 6ft, for more than a day or two.
Review 20:decent free wifi - a must here as the 3g coverage is very poor The setting on the river - very pretty The breakfasts - eat your heart out!
Review 21:Refurbishment still needed on some parts fo the building - but bedrooms and bathrooms have all been done to a good standard.
Review 22:Comfortable beds! Special children's menu and flexibility much appreciated.Excellent breakfast.
Review 23:The mattress in the 4 poster was in need of a change and didn't do my back any favours!!! The windows are already being replaced/refurb'd so that's brilliant.
Review 24:The staff were very impressive-friendly efficient and remembered things/orders. No matter how busy they were, nothing was too much trouble. Excellent.
Review 25:I have stayed here a number of times whilst away on business. The setting is peaceful, the staff esure you are looked after and the food is homely and made with locally sourced ingredients. The building is quite old and as such the rooms, bar, dining area and surrounding gardens all have character. I always feel well rested, well fed and that i have had total value for money when I stay.
Review 26:A little disappointing that we were the only people staying, but that was proberly because it was just after New Year.
Review 27:Lovely peacefully weekend away after a rather hectic Christmas & New Year. Friendly staff and loverly food cooked to order. Will try to return later in the year.
Review 28:I loved the beautiful double aspect view from my roomy four poster bedroom. Seeing the resident heron several times, yellow wagtails and lots of other birds was a delight. The food in the restaurant was delicious - I had the best mushroom stroganoff I've ever had and an equally amazing chocolate brownie. And the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Review 29:Just what we were looking for after an afternoon at the Thursford Christmas Show. Restaurant had a good selection for dinner. Breakfast freshly cooked and plentiful.
Review 30:The bathroom layouts could have been planned better (even allowing for physical constraints).
Review 31:Friendly family run pub with comfortable accommodation. Remote setting was particularly appealing adding to the relaxation factor. Food and drink choice were excellent. A great location for exploring the north coast or inland locations.
Review 32:The premises and rooms need an urgent 'make over'. The food is not gourmet, but reasonable standard 'pub' food only.
Review 33:The peace and tranquility of the location
Review 34:Disappointinly the lights in my room were very dim making reading almost impossible. I have been assured that when the room is redecorated in the new year this problem will be resolved. In the short term a lamp with a higher wattage bulb would make a big difference.
Review 35:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My single room was clean, comfortable and warm. Breakfast was plentiful with a good range of foods on offer. I did not have a cooked breakfast but the staff were happy to oblige when I requested a bacon sandwich to take away instead. No problems with the Wifi connection at all. I will definitely stay her again next year.
Review 36:The room smelt a big like wet dog when we arrived. We opened the window and it was a bit better after few hours.
Review 37:The pub looks very nice overlooking a nice river, it is completely surrounded by the countryside. The room was spacious and confortable. The had dinner and breakfast which were both great.
Review 38:Poor soundproofing. Difficult for tall people to take a shower due to low beams. Beware if you want to stay out late -front door is locked and after 12.30 you will have to phone the owner to be let in.
Review 39:Quiet, pretty location. Breakfast was good.
Review 40:Saniflow system noisy when toilets and taps are used. Accommodation very clean but probably due a refurbishment program. Breakfast very good but limited. No vegetarian sausages or fish alternatives if you don't eat meat.
Review 41:Big room, very relaxing environment and friendly staff. In spite of negative comments made i'd definitely recommend the place.
Review 42:Could have done with comfy chair in bedroom. Slight problem with changing from bath tap to shower function.
Review 43:Lovely location. Quiet and peaceful. Room clean. Food good. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 44:WIFI was very weak in room, had to go down to bar to use it. Couldn't go out for early morning walk as residential door locked until 0700 so couldn't go downstairs to get outside!
Review 45:Location for touring, breakfast (quality and choice), evening meals, helpfulness of staff, good choice of beers, peaceful surroundings and view from room.
Review 46:Personal attention, great staff, excellent menu and beautiful setting! One of our friends was taken ill and we were very grateful for the care taken in looking after her - many thanks!!
Review 47:Our only disappointment was that the dinner main courses were below par. The rest of the dinner & cooked breakfast were good.
Review 48:The location & friendly service were excellent
Review 49:We had to wait an hour to get checked in because of arriving early. No effort to compromise. Some of the meals were expensive for what was offered.
Review 50:The room was excellent as was the location. The service was quite good.
Review 51:The only comment would be that the room was rather low but to be expected due to the former use of the building
Review 52:The situation was idyllic and the gardens were wonderful. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel was a very interesting building.. The room was clean and the beds very comfortable.
Review 53:Size of room Not possible to read in bed Furnishings Situation of rooms on top Floor No cooling in very hot space Bathrooms - way outdated Breakfast - very poor selection of cold foods/cereals etc In need of paint-job inside and out Manager needs to improve his customer service approach
Review 54:Gardens. Staff (with exception of manager) pleasant.
Review 55:The beds were very uncomfortable - not helpful if you have a back problem. The needs of the residents were neglected when there was a dinner party. Poor ventilation in rooms. I sound like a grumpy old man - maybe more suitable for younger people!
Review 56:Very convenient for exploring the Norfolk coast by car. Peaceful rustic atmosphere, Ample parking. Good weather was a bonus.
Review 57:Very soft and springy mattresses with little support (Twin Room 1). I woke up twice having slid to the edge of the bed. It was only the fact that my head touched the bedside cabinet that I didn't slide onto the floor! This was the only minor issue in what was a very pleasant stay.
Review 58:1.Very hospitable and helpful staff. 2.Superb cooked breakfast. 3.Peaceful setting with a babbling brook. 4.Spacious room with all the usual amenities. 5.Strong wifi.
Review 59:Same menu every day.........Even the "Specials" board choices did not change so may as well have been added to the main menu. It would be nice to see more changes to provide a wider variety of choice.
