Reviews for Station Hotel

Review 1:Nothing to complain about, could not have received any better service.

Review 2:I like this hotel, the location is excellent, the room was so comfortable as was the bed. The food was very good and good value for money, this includes my evening meal and breakfast. The staff could not do enough for you so that you enjoyed your stay.

Review 3:With barely a greeting we were asked to pay for breakfast which we received vouchers. The lift was broken and we were placed on the second floor. My parents are in their eighties!!! I forgot the vouchers for breakfast but had to go up the two flights of stairs to obtain them as the waitress who could have checked with reception 300 feet away said she needed the vouchers. There were chipped paint on many of the skiting boards and door frames. The bathroom blinds on both rooms were filthy with great dips in the floor due to age. Thank goodness we didn't pay full price!!!

Review 4:Free parking. Easy to walk into the centre of town.

Review 5:The staff didn't help at all when I wanted a refund they said they'd call back and they didn't when my partner calld them back they said we have to go through the directors waste of £75

Review 6:Cold (ancient central heating didn't work), room and hotel in poorcondition, run down, under-staffed, smell of damp in some parts ofhotel. Wreck of a bathroom. Night porter lent me an electric heaterwhich took the iciness off the room. Nothing like images on internet.

Review 7:Not good at all, but free parking in city centre. Staff were friendlyand helpful but few in number.

Review 8:nothing, area great for transport buses and trains. no noise.

Review 9:very clean reception area, very clean room and bathroom. not busy for atmosphere on Tuesday but breakfast to die for well cooked and everything very hot lovely, service with a smile and very relaxing.

Review 10:When I returned on my own (husband had returned to Australia) I was allocated a single room on the left hand side of hotel - double glazing faulty and therefore room exceedingly cold and noisy ( rail traffic ) so had a very disturbed night, however, on mentioning this to reception I was moved to a very nice room at front of hotel ( Room 62 ) and really enjoyed my stay - THANK YOU! I did not want to leave in the end!!

Review 11:Location was great as we were travelling on Brit Rail passes (purchased in Australia ) - we were able to explore Inverness, Glasgow and Edinburgh easily from Perth. Will definitely visit again! Breakfasts were superb and more than generous!

Review 12:Had difficulty sometimes finding member of staff as reception wasn't always maned. Also had difficulty being understood. Rooms quite cold.

Review 13:Good location as we were travelling by train. Reasonable price. Rooms had all we needed including iron and hairdryer.

Review 14:We had a corner room so it was cold when we walked in and didn't get much warm through the night .

Review 15:It was very clean and they had left water and chocolate by the bed .. Nice touch

Review 16:If anything, the hotel is slightly dated and could do with a freshen up.

Review 17:Ease of booking in and out appreciated. Room good with large en suite. Enjoyable stay.

Review 18:Friendliness of all staff I spoke to. Room was spotless and shower was hot. Complimentary chocolates was a nice touch along with shampoo and body gel. Used iron board as well which was very convenient. Especially liked the bar man who was on shift (big bearded Greek gentleman)

Review 19:Bar and restaurant quite rundown and in need of repair. No atmosphere in bar and restaurant generally empty. No welcome pack or information in room.

Review 20:Suite and bathroom very pleasant, comfortable and clean.

Review 21:Water could have been a little hotter in the shower

Review 22:Nice big room with a garden view. Good facilities in room. Tea/coffee/bottled water, biscuits.

Review 23:If your looking for a clean value for money room try the Station Hotel. Free bottled water and toiletries with a nice touch of a chocolate sweet left with your towels. Obviously the hotel is old so has squeaky floorboards and the corridors etc. could do with a freshen up. But for under £45 for B&B in a crisp clean bed you can't go wrong.

Review 24:Very poor booking system as I searched for B&B on perth thinking my booking include breakfast only to be informed by a foreign night porter I think? That we had room only and paid£390.00 for two 2~3 star rooms was repulsive I come to perth several times a year for weekend breaks with friends but we usually go to the Queens hotel but sadly they were full on the friday of our stay so I liked the look of the pictures on the booking website of the Station Hotel so I booked it but I cant see me making that mistake again anytime soon.

Review 25:The breakfast we had on sunday morning was very nice but having to pay extra for it after being mislead by the booking sight left a foul taste and we heard two or three othet couples saying the same thing thinking breakfast was included.

Review 26:Some road noise from my room, not very warm. Slightly shabby, though clean.

Review 27:Handy central location, near the railway station. Easy check-in/check-out.

Review 28:The hotel is a little dated in terms of décor, but adequate for the price. it is more expensive if you book direct with the hotel.

Review 29:The bar prices were reasonable and the hotel was quiet

Review 30:Single glazing in bathroom. Mould on roof and water dripping off net curtains in bathroom, bedroom so cold when we arrived bedding felt damp .

Review 31:Hotel looks great from the outside. Staff were nice .

Review 32:Room in desperate need of modernisation and redecorating as wallpaper coming off the walls but ok for budget price. Reception desk girl on leaving totally ignored us as we handed over the key.

Review 33:Cheap and cheerful. You get what you pay for.

Review 34:The guy serving behind the bar was the most miserable person in the world! I asked him to top up my very expensive pint and he went off on a rant! The mattress must have been as old as the hotel itself! The room was cold despite the radiator being on full.

Review 35:interior needs a little updating , and brightening up of decor .a littl e shabby .a lack of investment in building .

Review 36:very, courteous , friendly and helpful staff , food and cleanliness a good standard .

Review 37:for an overnight stay it was great, eat in the bar food good and friendly staff. Room warm, clean and for budget OK. A Victoria railway hotel large and a bit dated for decor, I understanding its closing over Christmas for some refurbishment work, but otherwise friendly, clean and would not complain

Review 38:Staff unfriendly, no warm welcome, everything an effort, hotel needs a face lift rooms poor and needing a good clean breakfast very mediocre.

Review 39:Where it was situated was all it had going for it.

Review 40:If you need a car for flexibility in the Highlands but prefer to travel north with laptop-work by train, this is the place to change (and 50 years previously, this was where the car-sleepers from London stopped). Now one has Arnold Clark cars just 400m on the other side of the Station itself 50m away. The young staff are doing their best to make a big "classic" hotel work for them, and do adequate dinner, good breakfast and help all they can. Exiting the town on the Crieff road is currently good, as you can keep west of the town center, and there are currently roadworks on the N road.

Review 41:In room 73 we both woke up next morning with insect bites and it was very painful and uncomfortable. Neither of us have ever experienced this before.

Review 42:The best part was when we got upgraded to room 65 on the second night because of our complaint from room 73. This room was much bigger and much more comfortable

Review 43:We stayed 2 nights - the first night allocated an attic room which had grubby decor in bedroom/bathroom. It was cold in spite of functioning radiator due to broken/cracked window.

Review 44:Classic hotel in a central location. Friendly welcoming and responsive staff who reallocated us to a different comfortable room for second night following poor first experience. Excellent breakfast served in pleasant surroundings.

Review 45:Ordered evening mesl no cutlery provided only one waiter and he was no where to be seen ,ended up leavingmeal but still had to pay next day ,

Review 46:Room was very good bed comfortable

Review 47:we liked the whole experience, as I am disabled I found the room was big enough for my wheelchair to be used in the room. and of course the lift was next to our room. plenty of space for everything. the food was excellent plenty of choice for dinner and breakfast. the staff were very friendly and very professional, we will defo be back to the station hotel. also it was straight across from the station. plenty of disabled access. 5 star.*****

Review 48:Nothing really, the hotel looks a little tired but staff and convenience of location for an early train made up for this

Review 49:Night porter was very helpful as I arrived after midnight

Review 50:Definite bad experience, have been told several times management would phone back - no customer care whatsoever , there was a large boxing event on - we were not told and this was a special birthday celebration, left us with low opinion of the hotel management

Review 51:Location & breakfast

Review 52:The music in the bar (Fri night) was cronic and as a result we only stayed for 1 drink.

Review 53:Superb location and parking at the rear of the hotel is a bonus.

Review 54:Some dirt behind radiators and hotel generally a bit tired and in need of a (very expensive) refurbishment. Not much going on in bar or restaurant.

Review 55:Spacious room cleaned everyday. Biscuits and water also provided daily. Not much train noise for a station hotel either and loads of parking too. Excellent value for money if you book in advance.

Review 56:Right. For a start, the hotel could fix no trace of my booking. Perhaps booking.com might like to have a look at that? On an unusually mild November night, the room was cold. This presumably once grand hotel is old and tired.

Review 57:Breakfast was ok

Review 58:The decor was tired, there was a tiny unattractive collage type framed picture on a very large wall which looked ridiculous?? Towel rail totally inadequate for potential room occupancy

Review 59:Helpful obliging staff Close to station Generous supply of bottled water ,tea and coffee Spacious seating in lounge area Good views Lovely curtains in dining area Nice big T V

Review 60:Rude staff, filthy rooms, broken curtain rail so curtains never closed properly. i doubt the hotel has seen any deep cleaning in decades

Review 61:Location was good

Review 62:It was very dirty, dust everywhere. There was only one working electrical socket in the room and I had to move heavy furniture to get to it. The dust behind there was terrifying.

Review 63:Handy location, staff very friendly and helpful

Review 64:The way the customer in front of me spoke to the gentleman on reception rude lady! He was very polite to her throughout though so well done.

Review 65:Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms comfortable & clean. Lots of little extras added, toiletries, hankies and refreshments.

Review 66:The staff were very friendly and helpful. They look like they are in the process of doing the hotel up. Our room was one yet to be done. But clean and very comfortable. Lovely stay had by all.

Review 67:Bit disappointed with the Bar,not much choice beerwise.

Review 68:The dimensions of this place are huge from the hallway to the staircase to the dining area and so on.I had a large room with an even bigger bathroom.Everywhere was clean and quiet.Breakfast is £9.50 extra but it's very substantial. Easy walk to town centre.

Review 69:Place was very dirty and mold on bedroom wall bed was terrible to sleep in drinks in bar was not what it's ment to be asked for Smirnoff vodka and was not vodka it tastes ov payed £9 move for copthorne in Newcastle was like a palace to the station have stayed in better and payed more but will never go there again or recommend it to anybody to stay in

Review 70:Not very clean room

Review 71:Never enough milk/teabags/ biscuits on hospitality trays. Towels far too small, Not everyone is built like a fashion model lots of ladies carry extra pounds!!!.

Review 72:Pleasant surroundings, close to all amenities,Good value for money.

Review 73:The decor was pretty dreadful. It's a shame the current owners don't have the vision to turn this old splendid hotel into the place it has been and should be, but I get the impression this is unlikely to happen, they would be far better to employ an interior designer rather than glitter bomb the toilets, the public areas are not welcoming, my advice, you have a beautiful old hotel, restore it and treat it with respect

Review 74:It was clean and the location was good

Review 75:Full Scottish breakfast not sufficiently copious. Didn't receive message left by wife since no 'phone in room. Problem with toilet flush- inadequate flow.

Review 76:Spacious, warm, comfortable. Very convenient location since travelling by train.

Review 77:Hotel in general is very tired . A refurbishment would not go wrong.

Review 78:A very handy location for our golf weekend. Friendly staff. We would stay at this hotel again.

Review 79:Pillow cases were wet when we went to bed at 9.30. Therefore staff had put wet pillowcases on pillows!! No heating on in room at 3pm - it took till after 8 until there was any real heat. Bathroom was freezing! Black mould on window frames! Bedding was clean but bed was very noisy! Poor wifi in room 45.

Review 80:We like the fact that we were very central to Perth City and bars and Restaurants.

Review 81:toilets leave a lot to be desired, very basic. and looked dirty. everyone likes a nice cosy bar in a hotel which you would expect from the outside but what a let down, shame as it is a lovely building, needs work done

Review 82:lovely old hotel which i like but poorly maintained. i.e. paintwork , bar needs a big upgrade to match the old style of hotel, very good location

Review 83:The information leaflet in the bedroom was very dirty and didn't have all current information on it, such as the WiFi details. Petty I know, but I couldn't really fault anything else.

Review 84:Lovely old building. Very near town centre.

Review 85:Rooms need to be redone....First room offered was a room only suitable for staff to use. Second room was OK but needs new mattress and curtains were hanging down. VERY COLD ROOM. Lobby needs Chairs for people to sit on. Only seating were settees that were so sagging no one used them so lobby was empty. Fish supper was OK too. How about some tartan curtains in the rooms they really add to the decor..not the wallpaper you have chosen.

Review 86:Staff were very friendly and hotel was CLEAN.

Review 87:Service, waiting times to be seen at front desk or at bar poor, you will find most times only one member of staff on handling both bar and reception. Entertainment, no atmosphere. Arrival greetings staff mon attentive, very poor, and no one will ask about your stay on departure. I had a better quality of service at a previous bunk house!

Review 88:Location, Great if you want to explore other areas as it is opposite train station.

Review 89:perfect for a night stop over. must have been a beautiful hotel - it is now a bit sad but the price is attractive - free car park at the back which is excellent.

Review 90:That the advertisement stated there was a games room where kids can play board games etc but when enquiring about this the member of staff had no idea what I was talking about then I was advised there were no games

Review 91:The staff were friendly and approachable , room was clean and very spacious with lots of clean towels

Review 92:There should be more staff on at mealtimes, as twice there was no milk, no knives and no cereal spoons at breakfast. The one person on duty was trying to take orders, deliver them, clear up and deal with coffee machines; no wonder problems arose

Review 93:Nice and quiet

Review 94:The shower in the room was broken - not noticed until the morning. a member of staff hesitantly offered to give me another room so I could shower but this was not feasible due to time issues. The broken shower should have been noticed by the cleaning staff prior to allocation

Review 95:The staff are very helpful and assist me as far as possible

Review 96:Good location. Friendly;helpful staff. Room clean & everything fine - comfortable bed, shower fine etc. Nice touch to have bottled water in the bedroom.

Review 97:Building is tired, décor is shabby and we assume the business is cash-strapped because we had to pay with cash whenever we bought a drink or had a meal (dinner and breakfast). Floorboards squeak so noisy. Mattress springs squeaked and mattress was probably worn out, though not uncomfortable. Wines available were very limited and not good.

Review 98:A grand old building that has a lift. Room was reasonably comfortable. Staff were friendly. Plenty of free parking. Wi-Fi was good.

Review 99:The Location of the hotel to Perth train station and the city centre was excellent . The price of the room was very very good. The room was clean and in good repair and even though I didn't eat them the chocolates on the bed were a thoughtful touch .I would use this hotel again .

Review 100:Although clean and tidy, the hotel has a certain 'faded splendour' about it. Refreshing the decor would be nice. Some of the wallpaper had seen better days and the skirting boards etc had chipped paint. Unavoidably, the corridors to the bedrooms lend a certain 'Victorian' feel to the place and in themselves are dull. Brightening them up as well would be good. If it's Victorian in epoch, then why not try and recreate that with some period touches on the staircase which was, sadly, particularly austere. Little of the above is anyone's fault, but improving the insides to match the striking exterior would be an interesting challenge.

Review 101:Polite staff and excellent breakfast. Comfortable bed.

Review 102:Being a hotel that's over 100 years old it looked a little worse for wear but with some new wallpaper and painting it could be very grand. Floor is extremely creaky in our room. Says they have room service but its only for dinner even though it shows a full breakfast menu.

Review 103:Loved that it was directly outside the train station! Very close to walk to center.

Review 104:This type of survey puts me off booking this way again, along with the other e mails sent trying to sell me things. I am away around 6-10 times a month and the site that leaves me alone will get the business.

Review 105:Quiet, helpful staff all I needed on my business trip

Review 106:Menu could have been more varied. Evening meals we did have were well cooked and enjoyable. Continental breakfast - no choice of bread or rolls. Choice of cheeses would have been good. Rooms require decorating but beds comfortable. No pictures in room 105. Doors dirty. Bathroom needs refurbishing. No telephone. Didn't like paying before even stayed a night. Stayed in three hotels while travelling Scotland and this was only hotel that took money before stay.

Review 107:Location

Review 108:The one meal i had was obviously not a hand made burger and nor were the "hand cut" fries, for the price it seemed a rip off but the food did its job

Review 109:great staff, great location, comfortable and clean

Review 110:The room was quite cramped and not much leg room when sitting on the loo. The shower tiling was in much need of cleaning as was the external part of the shower cabinet. Also moved bedside cabinet to retrieve my phone and other was a thick layer of dust on the carpet behind it.

Review 111:The location and parking facility were superb. Staff were extremely helpful and polite especially the gentleman on reception on arrival.

Review 112:The hotel looks a bit old (and it is) - there have been some renovations but they did not really change the feeling.

Review 113:Good location and cheap for what you get.

Review 114:Rooms are plain and rather soulless. Memory foam mattress was uncomfortable, although I appreciate they are supposed to be good. I couldn't connect to the wifi in the room, only at reception.

Review 115:Great staff, really friendly and helpful. Lovely building. Nice breakfast. Very good room tariff.

Review 116:Floor tile in bathroom cracked & loose.Step into bathroom not noticeable until you trip on it, should have warning sign. Food was good quality but portions small.

Review 117:Convenient location beside station. Staff friendly & helpful. View of garden from room.

Review 118:We were upgraded to an executive room on arrival but were disappointed with the facilities on offer against the price we were paying.Hotel need a lick of paint, new décor and furnishings.

Review 119:As we travelled by train , the hotel location was ideal and only a few minutes from the town centre.

Review 120:It is a old, dated hotel. It has clearly seen better days and is in desperate need of refurbishment. The windows are draughty and the pipes leak. The heating was temperamental.

Review 121:Staff were friendly. Apparently new management have taken over and they appear to be aware that improvements are needed. And this is reflected in the price.

Review 122:I entered from the car park. The corridor is dingy and the carpet threadbare. I last stayed at the hotel in 1988, and I don't think that corridor has changed. I had booked a single room, but the bed was exceptionally narrow and the room was so narrow it was difficult to get out of bed and go to the loo. As breakfast started at 7.30, I had to miss it, as I left at 7.30.

Review 123:The staff were very helpful, aand teh car park was large.

Review 124:There was a photograph of the hotel dated 1891. I think that's the last time the hotel saw any paint.. The room was far too small ,

Review 125:The hotel's location was excellent . Short walk to the town centre.

Review 126:Car park not well illuminates and window needed repairs.

Review 127:A beautifully large old world hotel steeped in history with the feel of the Victorian train age as acommon theme.

Review 128:Hotel needs renovating badly. No breakfast included considering the price to stay there.

Review 129:Rooms large and spacious and clean and a short walk to very large shopping area and sites to see.

Review 130:We booked a ground floor room as i am disabled, luckily there was a lift.We We were told that we were being given an upgrade but the size of our bed was very small, barely enough to fit 2 of us and there was no bed for our infant son,we asked at reception for a bed or cot for our child and we were given a flimsy travel cot instead. The bathroom smelled of damp as the shower curtain was mouldy.

Review 131:the convenience of the location

Review 132:It is in dire need of a refurbisment and decoration in the bedrooms, But it must retain some of the charachter features including the huge stained glass windows and sweeping staircases.

Review 133:The charm and faded granduer. The staff were excellent as well.

Review 134:I stayed in room 61 the double mattress was the weakest mattress and the oldest with broken Springs . The pillows wear of very low quality. The flooring quicked .the toilet siyitem ran all night and their was a big fight out side at 4am wear 3police cars and a police van wear needed

Review 135:Rooms. And breakfast.

Review 136:The rooms were £99. Very basic and cold. Went for breakfast in morning which they were charging £9.95 extra. While making toast. The bread was covered in mould. Completely put us off. Disgusting.

Review 137:Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff; on arrival I was offered a room upgrade and all at the hotel were polite and considerate The hotel has a garden, which is a bonus in a city hotel
