Reviews for Two Rivers Lodge by Marston’s Inns

Review 1:The room was cold. It was above the entrance to the rooms. This is the second time I have stayed here. And it was cold in that room too.The door was noisy when anyone entered or exited the building. Breakfast on the first morning had egg shell in it and the second morning the eggs had to be sent back as they were not cooked. Also small sized portion for eggs on toast. Surely they should use more than one egg per piece of toast.

Review 2:Evening meals were brilliant.

Review 3:No staff in lodge, room very cold even tho heating on had to keep curtains closed as our room faced the pub no nets on upstairs windows, bathroom permanently cold. Front entrance lobby lovely and warm shame that was not the case throughout. Bed hard pillows hard didn't sleep well at all. Breakfast was awful, poached eggs on toast including shell, 2nd day scrambled eggs on toast, think they lost the butter was lukewarm, this was my choice of breakfast as my partner had the full English which again was luke warm and I think they must use basic beans as they were awful,my partner had poached eggs on the 2nd day but they fried the eggs first ? Would not stay here again but would eat in the restaurant in the evening

Review 4:The pub and restaurant is very good, can't fault food or staff

Review 5:Getting caught in the rain between pub and accomodation!!

Review 6:Friendly staff the minute we walked in the door. Great food and comfortable rooms.Reasonably priced and varied menu

Review 7:the card key did not open the outside door simply it required two or three attempts. would have liked another chair not have to use the bed if both wished to sit

Review 8:good size room enough parking

Review 9:The only thing that I felt could have been improved was it would have been nice to have the option of another blanket or duvet because the weather turned chilly and I like some weight to my bed covers.

Review 10:Hotel staff were friendly and the facilities were super clean even in the public areas. I was very impressed. I don't usually bother with reviews but this place deserves a mention:-)

Review 11:Bed was not made up for my young son on arrival so I asked whilst we were out if it could be made and when we returned with a tired little boy it hadn't been done. Really its the only negative I could say about this place and staff immediately came up to make the bed for him so sorted in the end.

Review 12:Good value for money, full English included in price, staff seemed enthusiastic and happy to be there

Review 13:Room was rubbish. Small. Cold, even with the heating on full all night. Summer quilt not good enough. Hot water barely hot. They're never going to be sued for scalding someone. Breakfast was pants. Not cooked & cold. Not worth the money. We have stayed in far far better places for much less cost. Don't think that we'll stay again.

Review 14:The staff, evening food & beer are Fab.

Review 15:one little niggle was the entry card to the building its not idiot proof for the likes of me

Review 16:the room was clean and tidy, bed was comfortable, bathroom was spotless

Review 17:Hotel reception was in the middle of the onsite pub/restaurant and not very visible for someone who's never been there before. Check in staff were quite rude!! Wifi wasn't very good, only worked sometimes.

Review 18:Fab location! Short walk/drive to the centre of town and 5 min drive from the national diving centre. Very clean and very comfortable. Lovely breakfast staff.

Review 19:Most of all, I have to commend the excellent staff at this smashing hotel, who couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. The food in the restaurant is absolutely first class, and tremendous value for money. We also enjoyed our lovely breakfasts in the morning. The rooms were very comfortable and beautifully clean, with everything you could possibly want, including TV and wifi. We loved it.

Review 20:Very clean and comfortable,as vegetarians we found a good choice of food and breakfast was excellent. A suggestion would be to add hullumi to the menu.

Review 21:Breakfast wasn't up to much - bacon hard and dry, scrambled egg tasteless and cold

Review 22:Disabloed room very well laid out and easy access with wheelchair.

Review 23:Shower drained slowly. However I did report this so it may be fixed now.

Review 24:Good standard of accommodation food drink. Wi-Fi access. Easy to get to. Close to Bristol.

Review 25:Had run out of Chicken Bhuna on the night

Review 26:We met up as a family from different parts of the country for the week-end. We had booked rooms that where clean and comfortable had an evening meal that couldn't be faulted (almost) for taste and the service was superb as was breakfast next day. All agreed that next time we get together this is where we'll stay.

Review 27:Some small matters need attention, e.g. a splash of bleach down the washbasin plughole will stop smells from the drain; while a strip of veneer on the desk was falling off. The cleaners must see this every day. There's no excuse for not getting the hotel handyman to come out and fix it.

Review 28:Friendly staff, convenient location, cleanliness

Review 29:Bath wasn't too clean.

Review 30:Comfy room and pub on your doorstep is great after a day spent on your bike. The hotel doesn't have secure bike store but they let us keep the bikes over night in their laundry room which was really helpful. Lovely staff , great food, will be back

Review 31:We booked for a twin room but had a double bed and an invalid bathroom. Poor facility for a wash or shower Booked for 2nights but only stayed one because not used to sleeping as a double

Review 32:Staff were very polite , clean facilities

Review 33:I didn't like how the breakfast was done. I think there should be a buffet, so you can help yourself to what you like and what you could manage to eat. Some of the staff were a little grumpy and unapproachable.

Review 34:The breakfast was good, a good amount to chose from. The room was lovely and clean and comfy.

Review 35:No negatives at all

Review 36:Very clean, comfortable and cosy. Rooms are compact but ideal for a couple of nights stay. The pub serves an excellent menu which was superb value. Breakfast cooked to order was delicious!

Review 37:The room was very comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean. Staff were friendly, helpful and courteous and the location in walking distance from the station and town centre.

Review 38:Only slight problem was key card, entry to block was difficult as it took eight to nine times of using card to get front door open. Everyone was having same problem.

Review 39:Well situated to town, very comfortable large room with two beds. Good shower and bathroom good size.

Review 40:Being double booked for the Saturday night, and not being sure if I had a room until after breakfast Saturday morning. I did, the error was alledgedly down to Booking.com's system crashing and booking rooms after they were no longer available.

Review 41:Nice clean comfortable room, good breakfast

Review 42:Staff were very accommodating & allowed us to check in early. Have stayed here before & will keep it in mind for another time. Very convenient for getting into Cardiff.

Review 43:There was some cyclists in the hotel and they equipped themselves for lunch from the breakfast selection, leaving little fresh fruit for the breakfast diners!

Review 44:The hotel was easy to find from the motorway. It was on an A road but it was quiet. The food in the restaurant was great. Good service. When my evening meal came there had been a mistake. It was rectified swiftly and without quibble.

Review 45:Nothing to complain about

Review 46:Great central location, we were 3 couples meeting up for a get together and will be doing so again at this hotel next year. The staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 47:Too noisy, needed to leave window open as room very warm.rooms to the front should be priced accordingly.Staff not focused, eating and drinking behind bar.whilst customers could nt get attention.we left and went elsewhere for some more drinks.

Review 48:Friendly and helpful when you got their attention, just not focused on the job. Bed very comfortable. Room a bit small to enjoy in room breakfast.

Review 49:The beds were a bit hard and on our arrival the soap containers in our room were empty.

Review 50:The ambience and helpful staff. The quality of the food was excellent especially Main evening meals! The location was easy from the A48 and offered easy access to Chepstow Town and other areas such as Tintern and Monmouth

Review 51:The walk up from the town is a bit of a climb, especialy after a few pints, lol.

Review 52:Clean, comfortable, nice room, bar & restaurant on the doorstep with good selection of food & drinks at reasonable prices, pleasant atmosphere and good staff. We can recommend the TWO RIVERS LODGE and will stay again.

Review 53:An attempt was made to charge me twice for a meal I had taken in the bar. The error was sorted out when challenged with evidence.

Review 54:the disabled facilities were very very good. the food was good and the staff very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 55:The room thermostat was unreliable.

Review 56:The hotel was easy to find on the main road with plenty of parking. The attached restaurant served a wide range of meals of good quality. The room was well equipped and double glazed to keep out traffic noises.

Review 57:Excellent place to stay ....staff looked after us really well. Accommodation and facilites lovely and comfortable. We will use Two Rivers whenever we need to visit Chepstow and the surrounding areas. Many Thanks for a very pleasant stay.

Review 58:Breakfast cereal out of date, sausages very ordinary and toast is supposed to be cooked bread not just shown a bit of heat!

Review 59:Friendly and helpful staff. Evening meals were good as were the bar facilities.

Review 60:Reception/check in is in pub, pub was busy on arrival and reception desk unmanned. Lots of staff walked by and said someone would be there soon but wait was too long especially after long journey.

Review 61:Good location, good breakfast, good size rooms - good value. First time staying in marstons hotel but would stay again. I had to book twin room as this was last room available but pleasantly surprised to find our room had one double and a single bed in.

Review 62:The staff were miserable in the extreme and completely inflexible. The room hadn't been properly hoovered with sweets from the previous occupants all over the carpet. Not a single staff member for the whole of our stay asked if everything was to our satisfaction, either at check in or check out or in the pub/breakfast restaurant. They advertise they serve breakfast until 11 however they cleared away all the breakfast items at 10.30 sharp meaning we couldn't have extra juice/cereal etc.

Review 63:Quiet nights sleep despite hotel being busy. Good size car park. Stayed in a double room which was a good size and the settee in the room was an unusual and welcome addition for hotels in this price range. Shower had plenty of hot water and was of good power. Gluten free bread for breakfast and a range of gluten free dishes in the pub/hotel restaurant was also excellent.

Review 64:Breakfast could have been better, as could the bar meal in the evening. More vegetarian choice would be nice.

Review 65:Good shower. Convenient location. Clean room.

Review 66:The breakfast was dreadful. The sausage and bacon looked raw. I have never been served a sausage that had no colour to it. There was also a dirty dish cloth left on our table.

Review 67:The room was clean and functional.

Review 68:Very nice room clean and tidy and very spacious.we was given a family room which was a nice surprise as we was only a couple.for the price great value!!

Review 69:We weren't aware there were no toiletries provided.

Review 70:Lovely room, friendly staff. Easy access and parking. Our accommodation was separate from the pub, so quiet, but it was great to cross to it for meals.

Review 71:Great location and easy booking in procedures with good parking. main town just down over the hill through a little lane. Plenty of pubs and places to eat.

Review 72:The only negative was the rooms do not have telephones.

Review 73:The staff in the hotel and the restaurant were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast staff were especially friendly. The breakfast was very good with an excellent amount of food, a very good way to start the day of traveling.

Review 74:The room was extremely cramped. There were no staff in the "lodge". You check in in the restaurant, with an unfriendly, unhelpful staff member. Breakfast was not good.

Review 75:The room was quiet, with easy access to nearby Tintern Abbey. Convenient, but unremarkable, restaurant across parking lot.

Review 76:Not sure what 4* criteria is but I was expecting more for some reason e.g. more pillows. A fridge in the room would have been useful. We did have a lovely break with family who were in a cottage nearby.

Review 77:Very clean. Staff were helpful at breakfast and evening meal.

Review 78:Breakfast well below-par. Smallish portions, beans were lukewarm, hash browns were undercooked and coffee was not hot. No lift in hotel area (which was difficult for me).

Review 79:Nice and simple building, very clean, good location (short walk) for Chepstow town centre. Bonus of restaurant/pub (didn't eat, but beer was good) and patio area outside.

Review 80:Bed a little hard. Needs some drawer storage in bedroom & more space to put things in bathroom.

Review 81:Good location. Modern building. Breakfast good, staff friendly.

Review 82:We did not have one complaint

Review 83:The staff were outstanding, the room was beautiful and clean and it was also very peaceful and relaxing. Will definitely return to the Two Rivers

Review 84:I found the pub very poor, food was awful didn't find the staff very welcoming at all , it's a Shame as we have stayed there a few times and found it very good but this last time was appalling , breakfast has always been very good but I just left mine , would rather go further into town to eat , but the rooms are spot on very comfortable and roomy.

Review 85:Bedrooms were absolutely brilliant , clean comfortable .

Review 86:The hotel was clean & comfortable with very courteous staff. The rail station was also within walking distance making it easy to travel by train to Cardiff for a rugby international.

Review 87:Nothing bad to report.

Review 88:The location was excellent. As a lone traveller it was easy to find without map and satnav and a great central location to travel from each day. Evening meals were excellent and staff very friendly.

Review 89:This is not a bad experience but I think that you need to upgrade the quality of beds and bed linen if you wish to compete with Premier Inn and Travelodge. In particular the pillows are small, soft and uncomfortable. This would be a quick fix to upgrade the comfort score.

Review 90:I have stayed at the Two Rivers before. The location is excellent and the overall layout of the site together with the facilities of the adjacent pub are good. Having breakfast facilitie son the site is a big plus.

Review 91:The sofa bed was very uncomfortable a second bed would be much better. A good nights sleep is better than space as u spend little time in room.

Review 92:The staff were brill could not say enough about them. The food was fab also.

Review 93:Very disappointed with the breakfast expected it to be much better seeing as it was all freshly cooked unfortunately everything was tasteless

Review 94:Cleanliness of all areas and friendliness of the staff

Review 95:All of the staff were helpful, friendly and welcoming. The location was ideal for my husband who had to visit work colleagues in Chepstow and St Briavels, and ideal for myself as I had to travel down to Bristol for work.

Review 96:The only bad part about staying at this place was the price., thought it was a bit steep at £100 a night.

Review 97:Set in a good location, stones throw away from the train station and town..,easy to get to the racecourse also. Clean and tidy room, good breakfast.

Review 98:The bed had a very very hard mattress and uncomfortable. Not enough pillows in the room, when we arrived back on the evening no one was around to ask for more pillows and I couldn't ring the number as my phone had no signal.

Review 99:The room was immaculately clean, plenty of space for the children, the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 100:The staff were extremely friendly and helpful . The rooms were comfortable and clean and the traffic noise was barely noticable taking into account the close proximity of the main road.

Review 101:WiFi slow, I know it's free but it was poor in our room, not a big deal as I was not using it a lot, but if I had been travelling for business and needed it for my laptop it may have been an issue

Review 102:Friendly staff, good food, clean and comfortable rooms. nice distance to walk down into Chepstow and very close to the Severn Bridge.

Review 103:Electronic key to enter the hotel. Only one chair in the bedroom and being disabled I need a chair with arms on it to help me in getting out of the chair

Review 104:Helpfulness of the staff. Staff brought me a more comfortable chair with arms. Could not wish for better service

Review 105:Nothing we didn't like...all was good.

Review 106:Stayed here as a base for travelling to the cricket in Cardiff. We were made to feel very welcome by all the staff and we had great service in the restaurant both nights from the wonderful Ellie, who was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble and all done with a smile. Nicola also very helpful and we felt at home from the moment we arrived for our night stay. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Review 107:Accommodation was excellent and spotless. Breakfast was good as was the daytime menu. The management and staff were so friendly and efficient - could not be better!

Review 108:Location easy to find and very close to the Severn Bridge, staff very friendly, accommodation secure as needed key to enter. Very clean accommodation and it smelled very clean and fresh in both the corridor and room. Very good impression and would definitely use again

Review 109:Breakfast a bit poor!! Full English lovely but cereals and cold buffet small selection.

Review 110:Good service, and friendly staff. Ok location, would stay again!!

Review 111:none

Review 112:very friendly helpful staff. immaculately clean and comfortable room. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back, hopefully in September.

Review 113:Only really couple points beds like concrete didn't get to sleep till small ours Breakfast was bit small not quite full English

Review 114:Very easy to find close to main route in to Wales very clean

Review 115:I thought the rooms were really clean and tidy! Air con is such a good thing to have in the warm weather. Really enjoyed my stay and will recommend it.

Review 116:Its restaurant advertises prominantly its rotisserie chicken. Surprisingly, it was horrible.

Review 117:We had breakfast for two days; they were consistently excellent.

Review 118:It wasn't a bad experience but it would have been nice to be told what we had to do with our key card in order for the lights to work.

Review 119:How friendly the staff were and everywhere was clean, tidy and in good order.

Review 120:Reception area is not very obvious at the end of the bar and its quite small. Staff man the bar and reception so check in a little slow. However the girl was friendly and did apologize for the delay.

Review 121:Location, good selection of food, friendly staff and reasonable charges. Accommodation across from main building.

Review 122:The only minor comment was the carpet gripper between the bedroom and bathroom is standing proud and I caught my foot on the sharp prongs (room 11).

Review 123:Very friendly, helpful staff. Room was spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast was cooked to order and piping hot.

Review 124:No toiletries provided in the bathroom apart from a small ration of soap in dispenser. Overhead shower only over the bath - prefer a hand shower. No tissues provided in the room.

Review 125:Room is quite nice if rather basic. Breakfast was quite nice. Plenty of car parking spaces available.

Review 126:Stayed here for one night excellent facilities would stay here again staff are friendly and service was first class comfortable surrounding and top breakfast .

Review 127:I booked a twin bed room and got a double so they had to make another bed up. I think with the amount of time they had since I booked it, a twin bed room could have been given to me.

Review 128:Breakfast, quiet, main bed was great.

Review 129:We both thought that the shower unit/bath would have benefitted from having a hand rail. The soap dispenser could have been easier to operate, it was a bit stiff.

Review 130:Easy access, good parking, clean and tidy.

Review 131:staff were a bit perfunctory. Did just enough to be civil but you sometimes got the impression they would rather be somewhere else. A smile occasionally would help

Review 132:rooms clean, good quality towels

Review 133:Beds were quite firm.

Review 134:Room location Food (Excellent quality breakfast) Serving staff - Very friendly Cleanliness, Room and main Bar and Restaurant Good Pillows and spotless bed linen

Review 135:Very modern and good food at reasonable prices. Definitely stay there again if we are in the area. Staff were very helpful and Manager was happy to help us when we had any questions.
