Reviews for The Royal George Hotel

Review 1:Very small car park, although we did manage to secure a place. The only small problem we encountered was water in the bathroom was quite cool. We called down and we were told to run it for a while (which we had been doing). They said they would boost it. However in the mornings the water in the shower was hot. We were given a complimentary drink to compensate.

Review 2:First and foremost was the excellent location. We had booked a mini suite which was lovely with a nice view of the River Tay. It was very comfortable and spotlessly clean and also very quiet. This is a traditional hotel with very pleasant and courteous staff. The food was excellent with generous portions. We will probably return for another visit.

Review 3:Nothing!!

Review 4:Owners and staff are amazing. A great 3 night stay. Above and beyond!!!! Food fabulous too. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Perth.

Review 5:Room was down in the basement, TV was small for the size of the room and was located on a sidewall that could not be viewed from the bed. Hot water in shower was luke warm.

Review 6:Staff friendly & helpful, nice location, evening meal good quality, breakfast very good. Clean & tidy hotel

Review 7:A warm cosy hotel centrally situated with car park attached. The coal fire was so welcoming on a cold a windy night. Our meal in the restaurant was excellent!!

Review 8:The internet connection was unavailable for my purposes it made it impossible for me to do important work in time. As a result i will never stay there again

Review 9:None

Review 10:I have stayed here 3 times before and the standard does not change Excellent room and breakfast was one of the best Thank you for another great stay

Review 11:Nice hotel. The staff were welcoming and helpful. We liked our room, very comfortable with a river view. Bar and lounge area also comfortable. Nice dining room with views of River Tay. Dinner and breakfast both excellently cooked. Close to shops, restaurants, museums etc.

Review 12:Very friendly needs modernised very clean no lights in bathroom shower like a running train food very good need biscuits in room bigger cups but overall staff where brill good location well done

Review 13:Asked to change room The mattress was very tied with no support. Changed rooms but again mattress better but not what you would expect

Review 14:Room with a view Breakfast was excellent

Review 15:Every stair tread squeaked and the bathroom floor was very bad (noisy). bed was too firm for us.

Review 16:Location is good, lack of choice at bar of spirits particularly gin !

Review 17:Car park is very small for the size of the hotel. Having accessible parking is important to us due to mobility problems. We were lucky we got into the car park but had we not, it would have been problematic for us

Review 18:We had a lovely mini suite with a fantastic view. The staff were helpful and responsive to our needs. We enjoyed both the breakfast and the evening meal we had in the hotel

Review 19:Quite shabby one-single-bed room in the basement (very small window with view to the pavement outside). Apparently, under the "booking.com" classification, this was a smart choice?!?! Imagine???

Review 20:Good, pleasent location. Staff was helpful and educated.

Review 21:Staff polite friendly and very helpful .hotel close to town centre, museum and black watch museum lovely walk along the river and gardens would recommend this hotel

Review 22:Broken tiles around toilet did not inspire, and the bed was two lumpy single mattresses lumped togethe

Review 23:The staff pleasant and helpful as ever, breakfast as good as ever

Review 24:We were disappointed in the dinner we had on our first night and chose not to eat in the hotel for the rest of our stay. the breakfasts were good.Mixed

Review 25:The staff were very helpful and friendly. the location of the hotel was great for proximity to the centre of Perth and also as dog owners being near north inch was great.

Review 26:Noise of impromtu loud sing song in bar drifted up to our bedroom which was near the top of the stairs but it did stop at 10.30 so no need to complain though I did mention it to bar staff in the morning. Very apologetic.

Review 27:The view from dining room window over River Tay was lovely. Very pleasant and helpful staff throughout the hotel.

Review 28:One of the staff in the breakfast room was rude to guests, ushering them out of the room whist tables were prepared. The other lady was composed and very pleasant by comparison. The furniture in the public areas was tired and is in need of replacement. Some traditional leather settees and chairs would set it all off nicely without losing its charm.

Review 29:Traditional comfortable hotel. Stunning location overlooking the river. We had an excellent room on the top floor corner with great views along the Tay. Receptionist was professional but warm, helpful and efficient.

Review 30:Nothing bad. If I were to be picky, it would be good if the waiting staff would smile but not falsely obviously. Also would have been good to have fresh crossiants available at breakfast.

Review 31:My room was lovely and very comfortable. It was quiet for a Friday night. I really appreciated the history and ambience of the hotel but with all mod conns available. I hope to return.

Review 32:Nothing...

Review 33:Everything.the staff were excellent always room was fabulous. Food was great. Parking a plus.location excellent.on a Scottish tour on my bike and I have to say this was my best stopover yet. Hard to beat this place. Excellent all round want to go back

Review 34:Beds very uncomfortable mattress unsupportive and smelly pillows. Beds located in a cramped location - you could only exit sideways! Decor rather tired and extremely creaking floors. No lift. Asked for bulb for lamp but never supplied.

Review 35:Location excellent. Staff charming and very helpful. Food good and reasonable value and choice.

Review 36:Nothing

Review 37:I requested a room with a view of river as it was my husbands Birthday and the hotel gave us a free upgrade to a suite with a view. We were delighted with the room and service received

Review 38:we liked the character of the hotel as new hotels remind us of boxes whereas the Royal George had history and I loved the creaky stairs! Also the staff were discreet and not always hanging over you ,but knew if anything was required they would be there to do it.

Review 39:Car park is a joke! Tv didn't work and had to be replaced.Reporting this involved walking down 53 stairs to reception as phonedid not work. Another walk to reception to order room service as phonewas not fixed. After a visit from a member of staff to tell us thechampagne we had ordered was warm and would we accept a more expensiveone at the same price (to which we readily agreed) the champagneeventually arrived warm!

Review 40:Good breakfast and nice reception staff

Review 41:An old building which had been renovated to some degree. No double glazing and in a noisy position. old fashioned shower curtain - needs replacing. bathroom floor tiles were cracked ( probably due to uneven old floors) No water in room. Very small/awkward car park.

Review 42:lovely position overlooking river Tay. Room was adequate but expensive.

Review 43:No elevator. Very difficult for two out of four of us. Tub with sides so high that none of us could climb in to use it. No air conditioning. Car Park in the back was a nightmare- too small, and we got parked in the next morning and it took forever to get out.

Review 44:Lovely dining room. Very nice breakfast. Generally good service by the staff.

Review 45:Second time staying here staff are excellent , restaurant for evening meal great and breakfast also great choice - the staff are very professional and friendly

Review 46:Wardrobe small and there was a lack of shelves and drawer space. Dined in one evening and the service in the dining room was very poor due seemingly to another function getting priority.

Review 47:Liked the hotel location. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean.

Review 48:The car parking at the time I visited this hotel was awful. If you do not have exceptional skills making multiple backwards and forwards manoeuvres do not enter the hotel car parking entrance.

Review 49:Location

Review 50:Didn't sleep well as the to was hot and stuffy with tiny window so not much air getting in.

Review 51:Fantastic location close to Perth Concert Hall and shops.Nice modern room with lovely bathroom. Good breakfast!

Review 52:The hotel car-park was difficult to access and quickly got filled up so on arrival we had to park in the street. A spring-clean of carpets and walls wouldn't go a miss.

Review 53:It was situated very near the town center. The staff were very professional. The hotel had quite a relaxed atmosphere and we were free to come and go as we pleased. Our room had large picture windows and faced the river which was lovely.

Review 54:Bed was a bit to soft and was called madam quite a lot which is quite old fashioned!

Review 55:Lovely hotel with interesting history! Great location and views of the river.

Review 56:Beds were really uncomfortable. Reception desk efficient but not pleasant. Wifi was really bad in the bedroom

Review 57:Good stopping point from Edinburgh airport, about 1 hour, on our way to isle of Skye

Review 58:I am discapacitated and asked for no starirs and this was not taken inconsideration. No heating on the bedroom and bathroom. It was very cold

Review 59:The kindness of the Staff

Review 60:We thought the hotel, staff and location were excellent. Our only disappointment was that the eggs served with breakfast were not free range. My husband and I both feel strongly about this and do not eat eggs from caged hens. This left us a very limited choice on the breakfast menu as eggs were the main ingredient in the majority of dishes.

Review 61:Ordered room service for dinner and the staff never returned to collect the plates. Had to leave them outside to prevent my 1year old from getting at them.

Review 62:Loved the view over the river and the room was child friendly

Review 63:Only complaint we had was the squeaky floorboards in our bedroom.understandable in an old building.

Review 64:Excellent location.Very comfortable bed and good food with plenty of it thank you will be back.

Review 65:There wasn't anything bad about the stay.

Review 66:We had a lovely, dual aspect room with views down and across the river. The breakfast was really good with excellent service.

Review 67:Car Park very small but left keys with the desk and they were happy to move my car

Review 68:Just about everything. This is a private hotel that ticks every box, superb, go for it

Review 69:The restaurant was not very good. They overcooked my friend's steak and my food was edible, but not good especially since the prices were a bit high. However, there are not a lot of places near there where you can eat which limits the options. It is nice that the bar stays open until late, but if you're not going to drink, that's not much help.

Review 70:The facilities are wonderful. They have a beautiful place right by the river Tay. I loved where we stayed. The room is well appointed with a nice bathtub. However, the food in the restaurant left much to be desired. While I would recommend staying there, I would recommend eating elsewhere.

Review 71:We had booked a double room costing £119 and a single room for our neice at £79.99. On arrival we were allocated a tiny room with two single beds and our neice was allocated a huge family room with three beds! the rooms were at opposite ends of the hotel and given that we were only there for one night to attend an event and would not be spending much time in the rooms; we didnt bother swapping our luggage etc from one room to the other..just thought I'd mention as feedback though as I was disappointed that the room allocation hadnt been checked.

Review 72:Lovely helpful staff and very convenient location.

Review 73:Waiting 45mins to get into hotel car park due to putting stickers on barrier at 4:30 when guests arriving Breakfast food so so

Review 74:Staff, location, comfy bed

Review 75:The gentleman who greeted me couldn't be more helpful. Arrived really late, but he assisted with a number of things at the end of a long, stressful day.

Review 76:I had paid for a mini suite two single beds pushed together was very uncomfortable I am also allergic to lambs wool and it was everywhere in the hotel stay was very unpleasant

Review 77:The only thing I would say is my TV did not have a swivel bracket so I could not watch it from bed - that is all I can think of.

Review 78:Room, staff location and meal were all fantastic , I would highly recommend this hotel.

Review 79:I like the friendliness and consideration to travellers shown by the staff. The hotel was most welcoming. Lovely view and well kept garden in front. The rooms were clean and nicely furnished - ours with a Scottish theme - super breakfast. I think it is one of the nicest if not the nicest hotel in Perth - well done to everyone.

Review 80:We are used to a King sized bed so found the hotel's bed a bit small. The car park is very small but I realise that it is an old building and that they are lucky to have any car parking at all.

Review 81:The location of the George is excellent. It was lovely sitting in the conservatory, eating breakfast and looking out at the river. The staff were quietly efficient and helpful. The breakfast was very good. We would stay here again and would recommend it highly to others.

Review 82:No complaints really.Although room had the fabulous view and was so cosy clean and comfortable, most of the floor boards squeeked rather loudly .It was a bit of a nuisance, but we still enjoyed our stay .

Review 83:Our room was the Tay View room and the view of the river was great. Also the breakfast menu had an enormous choice.

Review 84:Parking. The Royal George has a very small car park where cars do double park making it difficult, if not sometimes impossible to leave. If you value your car seek alternate accommodation or parking, which you will have to pay for.

Review 85:The staff are very friendly, hotel is situated very central in Perth, easy for getting around. Breakfast are excellent.

Review 86:Broken window, bathroom hadn't been cleaned on arrival, only one towel on dirty towel rail. Reported to reception, towels arrived but bath still not cleaned properly.Dirty fork at evening dinner. Not acceptable on £150 room tariff.

Review 87:The restaurant menu was of good standard The staff were helpful and friendly..Nice view over the Tay River from restaurant. Ideal location to town centre.

Review 88:The car park is a nightmare to find if you don't know the area.it's once again a nightmare to park in and get out of.

Review 89:Hotel close to centre of Perth,so could walk to most places, good views of the river Tay.

Review 90:Room could have had a small fridge simply to keep water and soft drinks cool, especially as the rooms were so warm

Review 91:Staff couldn't do enough for us. Genuinely took time in attending and conversing with us.

Review 92:Terrible breakfast coffee Some staff a bit stressed & showing it More care re guests needed by some Better training required - management issue

Review 93:Location Decent room Good wifi Delicious smoked haddock for breakfast Nice friendly receptionist

Review 94:Very limited residents' car parking in very cramped space which is also used for staff parking.

Review 95:Recently refurbished bedroom/& quality shower room. Friendly & helpful staff.

Review 96:Car park very tight and not big enough for the number of guests, No lift and no handrail on stairway to lower floor rooms mean that this hotel is not really suitable for those with mobility issues

Review 97:Convenient for Perth Concert Hall, very good breakfast, comfortable bar

Review 98:Pigeons won't let you sleep , they are just outside the window. It's really bad !

Review 99:Friendly staff , Got discount because of noisy night and morning

Review 100:A great place to stay even on business for 1 night. I wish I could have stayed longer. The staff are very attentive and the food is excellent and not expensive.Rooms are in keeping with a hotel of its age and very clean.

Review 101:Wifi was quite poor in the room. but that is a small gripe.

Review 102:Lovely hotel in a wonderful location and setting. SO close to everything and phenomenal value for money. Absolutely spotless and amazingly comfortable. What is there not to like

Review 103:Only problem was lack of space in hotel car park. Luckily I was able to park across from the hotel by the river. In the morning I was able to move my car into hotel park once a client had moved out.

Review 104:Seemed I had one of the best rooms in the hotel. It was the Black Watch room No. 29. Very spacious with a huge king size bed & considering I was on a single occupancy I had expected to pay extra as a solo traveller. Even although I had to arrive late for the high tea the staff still kept a full chicken & ham salad by for me.

Review 105:Stayed in room 50 which is on the top floor the furthest away from the main building, therefore the hot water took an age to get to the room. The hot water tap never did get hot which I reported but never heard any more. The Wi-Fi is very poor/slow and is not worth using unless you are desperate.

Review 106:Its location, freshly cooked breakfast, friendliness of the staff.

Review 107:Everything very clean and comfortable. Friendly, helpful staff. Good food. Only stayed one night on our way south, but would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Review 108:Noisey neighbours having a party in the room next to ours! No one on reception when rung to ask for assistance - hence a sleepless night - but not due to bed or accommodation - other guests behaviour!

Review 109:Very helpful and polite staff. Made to feel very welcome. Clean and tidy everywhere in the hotel. Very well looked after by the waiting staff.

Review 110:Only small thing was we were in room 59 the TV did not have a dvd player but this is a very small thing

Review 111:Hi My wife and 13 year old daughter and myself stayed here for one night on the 2nd of may this year, I must admit I booked this trip to help cheer my wife and daughter up after being unwell recently, and has a working class family I went by price, Well, We Were All Over The Moon With The Room,Service,AND Food Quality of the food. Thank you so much.

Review 112:Towels were thin and far too small, the breakfast was terrible - cheap sliced bread, cheap stale croissants, badly cooked flaccid fatty bacon and not enough staff to give good service.

Review 113:The room was very comfortable and on site parking, although tight, was good. Nice bed and good bathroom.

Review 114:The parking place was full, we could just squeeze in very close to a wall. Only Scottisch TV. No diner on sunday evening

Review 115:We had a wonderfull room. We had asked for a twin room, but got a double, but the bed was so large, that it was no problem. Friendly people

Review 116:Bed in room 21 not particularly comfy and the bathroom really needs a blind to cover the window.

Review 117:An individual hotel different from the big chains. This hotel is very well situated. High tea on Sunday was lovely if not slightly strange with toast being served with it however the cream scones and meringues were delicious.

Review 118:Information was inserted into booking form that 1 Gluten Free option required. Breakfast on first morning the hotel had no gluten free bread. Also parking at the hotel very tight, you can easily be blocked in by other cars.

Review 119:Staff friendly, food excellent. Location handy for town.

Review 120:Toast comes too early at breakfast, its cold by the time you want to eat it after cereals, fruits or with your hot breakfast

Review 121:Location, old worldy comfort.

Review 122:The people in that hotel are beyond friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel itself is beautiful and has a nice view on the river. I would recommend this to anybody and I hope I will have a chance in the future to stay there again. Well done!

Review 123:In Perth on business, hotel location with parking ideal. The room was very comfortable with four poster bed and bathroom spotlessly clean - best value hotel all week.

Review 124:I have only one suggestion, the TV in my room was not in the best location, you had to shuffle down the bed as the wardrobe was in the way.

Review 125:The room was clean, the breakfast was excellent and parking was good also.

Review 126:Internet access was a little hit and miss in the room, but excellent in the bar area.

Review 127:Great staff, excellent location looking over the river, free car park at rear , room a little tired but that's character making, good stay

Review 128:The staff at this hotel were excellent and extremely helpfully, the food was good and the hotel very clean and tidy. We will be visiting this hotel again very soon.

Review 129:The hotel has a great view of The River Tay whilst being in a very central location.Breakfast is cooked to order nicely presented by attentive staff. We had a relaxing stay in a comfortable room.

Review 130:We found that the seats next to the fireplace had been reserved, but no one arrived for well over an hour, and it was chilly were we had to sit. More thought could have been put into that. Ie reserve sign taken down .this happend twice

Review 131:Poor bar staff at night. Breakfast between 7-9.30 very early for a Sunday.

Review 132:Guy on reception very helpful with providing parking space. Good Breakfast and friendly morning server. Great view from room of the River
