Reviews for The Three Tuns

Review 1:nothing worth mentioning

Review 2:Very friendly staff and a great atmosphere for a small pub/B&B. Great food and good for live music too. The Pub is just on the edge of the main high street right by the castle.

Review 3:Not a problem for us but the pub is currently closed on Monday and Tuesday..best to be aware if you are hoping to eat there on these days.

Review 4:We loved the character of The Three Tuns and slept very well.Breakfast was fresh and delicious as were the gin and tonics brought to our room for us when we arrived!Thank you for your kind attention. There is a fabulous Indian restaurant a few minutes' walk away and we will be returning to Chepstow soon to visit both places.

Review 5:Absolutely nothing to dislike!

Review 6:The pub itself is gorgeous with a great beer garden, a plentiful bar and the castle on the doorstep! The staff are lovely and couldn't be more welcoming. The breakfast was top notch, as was the cleanliness. Our room was stunning!! We couldn't have felt more at home in the 'oldie world' surroundings. The Three Tuns really made our break, we didn't want to leave!! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay xx

Review 7:Great Little Place, Central to Chepstow and not far from place of work. Room is great really old fashioned but still wifi and TV work great. Breakfast was really good :)

Review 8:Lack of evening meal n site. Particularly in winter months much prefer to be able to eat where I am staying

Review 9:God value comfortable room ,good breakfast and friendly staff

Review 10:a bit noisy with local traffic .

Review 11:A pleasant inn conveniently placed next to the castle. Room was comfortable although the bathroom was tiny but the shower worked well.

Review 12:lovely quirky place very old with lots of character. old beams creaky floor boards no straight lines great atmosphere in pub. Breakfast good cereals orange juice full cooked English If you like old rustic you will like it here we did

Review 13:The bedroom floor and therefore the beds sloped so much we decided not to even stay there. If you want a medieval experience this would work but way too primitive for our taste.

Review 14:A fantastic little B and B,perfectly positioned in the heart of Chepstow. The accommodation has so much character, the staff are incredibly welcoming and the food amazing. We will definitely be planning another visit.

Review 15:The wooden joints at the foot of the bed came apart. Didn't spoil our stay though. Would stay here again.

Review 16:Very close to the concert venue. Excellent location. There was live entertainment on the Saturday night.

Review 17:nothing to dislike keeping in mind the age of the building and the fact that "modernisation" would destroy its character

Review 18:Had all the character expected of a building from 1640 and furnished in keeping with its age.

Review 19:I'd have liked bigger cups in the bedroom for my morning tea!

Review 20:The building was old but beautifully maintained, keeping old features, with modern comfort.

Review 21:A relaxed atmosphere and rustic décor in a charming and sympathetically restored inn. Location in the town but close to the river, castle and museum. Helpful landlady who recommended good restaurants nearby, and cooked a great breakfast. A lively bar with music on some evenings and a small garden at the back with a view of the castle behind.

Review 22:We stayed on a Satturday when there was live music which we were told about beforehand and stopped dead on 11.15 but unfortunately pub customers didn't leave so promptly and noisey directly outside room till early hours of morning

Review 23:Lovely room and staff couldn't be more helpful

Review 24:The room, Barthroom and toilet, wonkie floorboards, trip hazards, kitchen kettle and dirty/stained mugs, bar noise and coustomer chat fully audible until closing. The request for early breakfast was dismissed on arrival saying we don't do that, an offer of a sandwich that night was refused.

Review 25:Very little

Review 26:Very squeaky bed,bed too big for room (kept walking into foot board)shower difficult to set made worse by fixed head.

Review 27:Good location,lovely breakfast,friendly staff

Review 28:If you ant a quiet night on Friday or Saturday, don't stay here. That said, we loved the live bands they had, so we found it very enjoyable.

Review 29:We loved our stay at The Three Tuns. It was quirky, shabby sheek with a good shower, comfy beds and very good wifi (not as slow as most places we have been). All the people were very friendly and we felt very welcome.

Review 30:They do not serve food in the evening but it is in middle of town so no problem to eat out

Review 31:Ideal location for us to stop on way home from holiday. Excellent breakfast, well cooked and presented. Quirky old building with the suite separate from main part of pub

Review 32:The rooms are fantastically quirky as the almost 400 year old floors go up and down. The bed was very comfy with lovely linen. Dinner across the road at the other pub was very tasty with a view out the window of the Three Tuns and the castle. In the evening Morris Dancers arrived and it was very interesting and educational to talk to the dancers. - Never seen them before, except on TV. (Not sure how often that happens - occasionally in summer I think)

Review 33:Convenient for the castle and for the town centre, yet far enough away to be out of the hustle and bustle. The staff were very professional and friendly.

Review 34:On weekends there is live music downstairs. They play until about 11PM. The music was good, but we weren't there for the live band.

Review 35:Great room. Great location. Really fun town to walk around. Breakfast was great. Service was excellent. If you want an experience in Wales, this is the place. Also, if you are a Dr. Who fan, this castle was used in filming. If you are a Harry Potter fan, you'll be welcomed at the 3 broomsticks.

Review 36:Dont have room 4, generator or something went off all night in the back yard, noisy, shower dripped, shower wouldn't drain, wasn't very clean, door opened on to main road, tv didn't work, cant watch tv from the bed or sofa if it did work, bits of wood holding up furniture, damp in the room in placed, mould in the shower, stay in the two rivers its much nicer, its nothing like the pics, very dissatisfied

Review 37:Location was nice next to the castle

Review 38:Excellent location immediately next to castle. Lovely room with own direct access, really good cooked breakfast. I have a hearing dog and he was genuinely welcomed.

Review 39:The room was quite attractive but needed better cleaning and general attention to detail. The lounge old and uncomfortable; the bed lovely to look at but needed a good mattress. The rear garden untidy. Cooked breakfast generous but too oily.

Review 40:The manager was welcoming and very helpful. She gave me a ground floor room when I mentioned I was having difficulty with stairs. Location beside the dramatic Chepstow Castle was excellent.

Review 41:No power in the morning! Shocked to find no lights, no heat, no hot water!. Could not locate staff to advise of early start next morning and found we were locked out of the main part of the house. Only exit was to the outside. This was not explained to us. We felt we had been locked in because it took us a while to find the exit. Bad safety hazard. Live music unexpected and I would not have travelled here with my Elderly Father if I had known we would be sacrificing comfort for the perk of staying in a period property. We did not stay a second night

Review 42:Period property, location was great, but not easy to find from the main road.

Review 43:There was nothing we didnt like and would recommend it highly.

Review 44:Very welcoming owner, staff and locals were friendly. Traditional Old building, great room , comfortable bed. Tea,Coffee and bottled water in Room. Great Breakfast. Nice friendly bar playing great music and live music nights.

Review 45:toiletries in the bathroom could be more luxurious

Review 46:Lovely Pub, lots of character, staff put themselves out for us, lovely sandwiches and good breakfast

Review 47:If you like straight walls & buildings with no character then this isn't for you. If you like quaint pubs, real ales, a comfy bed, superb shower, friendly staff & a hearty breakfast then it definitely is. Worth every penny.

Review 48:The room was a bit small, but this wasn't really a problem for us as we didn't spend that much time in it apart from sleeping.

Review 49:The hotel has a lovely, individual feel to it, and has a relaxed, homely atmosphere.

Review 50:Not a thing.

Review 51:Loved everything! Debbie our hostess was wonderful. We had full English breakfast each morning and on the Sunday we had the Sunday lunch which made our day. The Inn had a live band on the Saturday which finished at 11 as stated and was very good. Our room was comfortable and apparently haunted though we didn't see anything, shame. Would definitely recommend.

Review 52:It was a bit noisey from the live band downstairs, on the Saturday night, but the owner apologised and warned us. Only till 1130pm

Review 53:Amazing full breakfast Friendly helpful owner/staff !0 min walk from the train station Right next to Chepstow Castle Right near the town centre and restaurants/bars Gorgeous old pub room-wooden beams and floors and really comfy bed

Review 54:beautiful, old building decorated to a high standard in keeping with the age of the building yet with all mod cons. Gorgeous breakfast, lively bar in the evening

Review 55:Room was small and the lighting was too dull. It was hard to find things in my bag but I believe the lights were dull to create an atmosphere.

Review 56:Location is very good and not far from the shops. Rooms were very nicely presented.

Review 57:Bed creaked but was an old bed but no problem

Review 58:We walked all around. Visited several pubs and ended our evening sat up in bed listening to the live entertainment which was. A skiffle band. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 59:Nothing. All good.

Review 60:We had the self contained room next to the pub and it was great. Nothing was too much trouble for Debbie and the other staff. Excellent breakfast and the evening meal we had in the bar was also good. It was great having our own front door key to our accommodation and we felt we could com and go as we pleased.

Review 61:Absolutely nothing!!

Review 62:The staff were very friendly as were the local people. The room was excellent, old in character with modern comfort and Chepstow castle right outside, beautiful surroundings. Would highly recommend but book in advance as they are very busy with good reason.

Review 63:There were two things ,one our room did not have curtains, that blocked out the light and the plumbing could do with an upgrade. The amount of hot water for the shower and the temperature was variable at the morning rush to breakfast.

Review 64:Friendly staff, near the ,Castle, town centre and train station. The attempt to preserve some of the internal features. Breakfast had a good choice.

Review 65:A great place to stay, delicious breakfast (the best of the weekend and I had a few!!). Debbie was realy friendly and I hope her future plans work out as it will make the Tuns even better.

Review 66:Furniture very old and chairs broken. No proper curtains, we had to use their towells which were past their usable date. No en suite but a bath room separated off from the corridor by a curtain. Breakfast as poor as any we have encountered in a guest house.

Review 67:The lady in charge was very pleasant and did her best but she seemed to be doing everything on her own.

Review 68:Power cuts were a nuisance but didn't spoil our stay.

Review 69:Great decoration and carefully restored rooms Good atmosphere in the pub and seating area Good breakfast

Review 70:Wifi signal a bit spotty, could do with a booster, but that's a minor quibble

Review 71:Location right at the bottom of Chepstow Castle. Great starting point for walks in the Wye Valley. Super food and good selection of ales. Deborah the owner is super friendly

Review 72:Lots of good things. Beautifully restored and lovely to be by the castle at the beginning and end of the day. Food and drink a bit rough and ready. We stayed on a Sunday and it was quiet.

Review 73:The rock band played till 11.15pm on the night of our stay which for some is too late but we didn't really mind, after all it is a busy pub which is host to many bands

Review 74:The three tuns is full of character in an excellent location, and provides a great base to explore the surrounding areas of the Wye Valley and Black mountains

Review 75:The place was dirty throughout. Door handles in particular look like they are all carrying some form of disease, and outside the rear entrance was a dirty and untidy mess. Olde world wooden floorboards were full of character, but also full of dust and dirt, and the white walls anything but white. The tired and broken advertisement board at the rear sums up the quality, but I strongly suspect this is associated with the fact it is currently up for sale.

Review 76:Location

Review 77:Slap-dash approach to day to day running. Seems no-one in overall control. Local dog seems to use couches as day-beds, so reluctant to settle there although they were the only comfortable seats in the bar/dining area. See-through door to en suite bathroom!

Review 78:Liked the history and location. Very comfy beds and clean cooked breakfast. Friendly Lesley, but other young staff certainly need more training, especially if left to manage.

Review 79:One loud and very disagreeable local customer in the bar. The batman was extremely patient with her. We weren't having a drink that night, but would have left promptly if we were.

Review 80:Clean and comfortable with very helpful and patient staff, and a fantastic breakfast to get us on our way.

Review 81:We loved our short stay! Unsure about evening meals as we didn't ask.

Review 82:Right next to the castle in the centre of town. Parking. Beautiful period details. Friendly/helpful staff. Good breakfast. Room with separate bathroom was lovely.

Review 83:It is a bit too old for my taste; I don't really like drawers that nearly fall out and sloping floors etc, and the shower room was extremely cramped. However, the bedroom was very pleasant on the whole, but not really what I had expected.

Review 84:I would recommend The Three Tuns with reservations. The staff were very friendly and it is an interesting old building. The breakfast was good. I liked the pictures and decor but thought there was a bit too much bric-a-brac around.

Review 85:We were glad we knew in advance that there would be live music playing downstairs on Saturday evening...

Review 86:The place is full of character, and we were made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was nicely cooked.

Review 87:You may want to check out whether a band is playing the night you stay. Did not bother me as had ear plugs and really enjoyed my stay.

Review 88:lovely old building, very nice pub and good sized accommodation. The owner was very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely go back.

Review 89:No ventilation or extractor fan in the en suite bathroom. I didn't mind the noise of the live music below our room which stopped around midnight but others might

Review 90:Quaint quirky room and delicious breakfast. Friendly helpful landlady

Review 91:The bathroom door didn´t close properly and the sink in the shower was clogged

Review 92:The room was beautiful and very comfortable, we really loved the old stone walls and wooden ceiling beams. The bed was wonderful too, I think I never slept in a bed that beautiful! The garden was wonderful too and we really liked the breakfast.

Review 93:Poor value for cost - bedroom floor a shambles - 'en suite' entry from hall. Bed & linnen tired & ancient.

Review 94:The hostess was friendly & helpful. Attractive old building from the outside & proximity to the castle- & also charming town to visit - with lots of historical interest close by.

Review 95:N/A

Review 96:An old quirky building with lots of character. Very friendly staff and locals

Review 97:Lovely landlady excellent breakfast

Review 98:The room was gorgeous and the breakfast was lovely. Friendly atmosphere, great band playing in evening.

Review 99:Great place, so much character and a great host.

Review 100:friendly, informative staff. comfortable atmosphere

Review 101:Nice location helpful staff

Review 102:Nothing. It was brilliant, although for some being above a pub could be a issue

Review 103:Loved the old building. Very querky.

Review 104:We had such a lovely stay. It is the most wonderful place. A real find.

Review 105:NOTHING

Review 106:COMFY BEDS-----GREAT BREAKFAST---- FRIENDLY STAFF GOOD ENTERTAINMENT ON THE SATURDAY NIGHT

Review 107:Friendly pub hospitality in the heart of the historic town, next door to the castle.

Review 108:Lovely old inn with lots of light and great atmosphere.

Review 109:Near chepstow castle near town centre

Review 110:Friendly, comfortable and full of character. A great B&B
