Wye Valley Hotel descritpion

Ideally placed between the historic towns of Monmouthshire and Chepstow. Tintern is in the heart of the Wye Valley, and all of the attractions it has to offer.
The poet Wordsworth described Wye as the most romantic valley in Wales. Little has changed since he penned those lines and the Wye river still wends its way by Tintern, its abbey and forest. The hotel dates back to 1835 when it was a small alehouse known as The Carpenters Arms. In 1909 the building was renamed and extended to its current form.
Both the bar and restaurant are open to non-residents and is popular with locals and tourists alike. Using fresh local produce, we aim to provide a range of food to suite your individual tastes - from bar snacks to meals from the menu. Special dietary requirements are catered for on request. With a total of nine en suite rooms the owners, Sue and Barry Cooke, pride themselves on being available to give individual attention to their guests to ensure that their stay is as relaxing and enjoyable as it can possibly be.

Reviews for Wye Valley Hotel

Review 1:Single bed a little soft but I'm a big guy

Review 2:Lovely location and a real surprise. Great area at front for a beer in the sun and good parking; and found a great local brewery called Kingstone a few hundred metres away. Would stay here again.

Review 3:The room was very cramped. The bathroom was just squashed in the corner, no room to move at all. It was horrible. Mattress was very very hard.Glad we only booked for two nights.

Review 4:location of the hotel. lovely walks nearby.

Review 5:The shower was a little weak in power but hotels, b&bs generally are so not too concerned.

Review 6:The location was a 5 min drive from Tintern Abbey , perfect right next to a vineyard. Heaven

Review 7:Close to the main road.

Review 8:Large, comfortable room. Friendly, family-run inn with good breakfast and evening menu. A great base for walking in the Wye Valley; our hosts were happy to advise us about local walks and to lend guides.

Review 9:Friendly and helpful particularly the female staff, clean and comfortable rooms. Our accommodation also had a sitting room and small kitchen area which was a nice surprise. The food was fresh and very well cooked with a good choice..- both breakfast and evening meals.

Review 10:Excellent food and service, we were able to eat outside the night we arrived. Wonderful interesting walk by the river, recommended to us by the host.

Review 11:nothing

Review 12:The location was excellent. There was a very friendly atmosphere we felt quite at home from the offset with the warm welcome from Sue and Barry in fact all of the staff were friendly and helpful. Will definitely book again.

Review 13:Very comfortable large room, excellent location, good breakfast and restaurant at night and friendly helpful staff. Easy walking distance to the Tintern Abbey and along the Wye River to Brockweir Bridge and village.

Review 14:The room which turned out to be a suite. As a couple and a single person we were given the ideal accommodation. Breakfast was excellent and traditional, the bar welcoming for a night-cap and chat before turning in.

Review 15:All looking a bit "tired". Breakfast was a little disappointing.

Review 16:Lovely location in Tintern. Very spacious room with great aspect. Very comfortable bed. Close to walks along the River Wye,

Review 17:The Hotel was ideally placed for attractions both in Wales and Gloucestershire. As it is a Pub food and drinks were available all day which was useful with a mixed age group including a young child.

Review 18:a bit noisy from the road with a room in the front but I guess when the hotel was built this was not much of problem. The double glazing worked well. Could be a problem in the summer if you like having the window open. Spending time in the bar could be a solution :-) Wifi was a bit hit and miss. did hear barking dogs kennelled at the back but they quiet around 6 pm, nothing heard during the night. Could do with a newspaper service on race days.

Review 19:very comfortable and relaxed, superb food with a good selection of beer and wine., nice views, nice people. really enjoyed our stay good laugh with the other residents. we would definitely use again for Chepstow races. Its one of the hotels that people talk to each other.

Review 20:Nothing negative at all!

Review 21:Small cosy, friendly and comfortable. The hosts are lovely and the bed was the most comfortably of any hotel bed we have ever slept in. Room lovely as was the food. Beautiful location.

Review 24:We were happy with our stay, just be warned that the hotel is the other end of the village from the abbey and we found it took us about 15 mins to walk there. But this was not a problem for us at all.

Review 25:The owners sue and barry were very welcoming and friendly. The room was comfortable and met our needs. Tea and coffee provided in room with home made biscuits! We had a good evening meal and excellent breakfast the next morning. Tintern is a great place to visit and we would stay at wye valley hotel again very happily.

Review 32:As a family we have stayed at the Wye Valley Hotel on a number of occasions (on our way down to Torquay to break up the journey) and have always enjoyed it. The food is great, the bar well stocked (very important to a real ale drinker!) and the staff very friendly. Breakfast is a corker - you won't need to eat until later that night. The rooms are clean and tidy - recommended.

Review 33:The bed was very hard and we had blankets rather than a duvet, not a good nights sleep. Apart from the bed I would give high rating on everything but the bed let them down!
