Reviews for Salutation Hotel

Review 1:The floor boards creak a lot but you have to remember how old the hotel is.

Review 2:The staff were fantastic, really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The management of this hotel should be proud of their staff team! The food was also plentiful and excellent.

Review 3:Nothing not to like

Review 4:Location perfect for Perth city centre, decent (large) size for a single room, and probably the best hotel breakfast I have encountered in the last 3 years. Friendly, helpful staff.

Review 5:Very small double room at the rear of the hotel? Not good value for the price paid. This was a nostalgic visit to celebrate a wedding anniversary so quite disappointing.

Review 6:Excellent breakfast. Good quality food. Staff in Dining Room very helpful.

Review 7:Nothing that the hotel could help, but there were a few noisy guests who were rather the worse for wear at 3.00 in the morning coming up to their rooms! Also being situated on a busy street at the festive season it was a bit noisy and the hotel being old did not have double glazed, well fitting windows.

Review 8:Superior rooms on the 3rd floor were warm, comfortable, of a reasonable size and well appointed. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well. The breakfast was excellent, good choice and service. The staff were very helpful and accommodating: I needed to change/upgrade my daughter's room from a single to a double which was done with no fuss or additional cost. The barman even apologised for some drunken football fans in the bar - which obviously was not his fault! We were staying the weekend before Christmas, so there were quite a few people around who were celebrating! The location was good and convenient for the shops, restaurants and walking by the river as well as for getting out and about. I would stay again at a different time of the year - with fewer party goers!

Review 9:Nothing really. The hotel is built in the grand old Victorian style & undergoing some refurbishment at present.

Review 10:The location of the hotel was great for our Xmas shopping as it links directly to the centre of town. The room was clean & spacious if a bit dated . The breakfast was good & the staff were friendly & chatty. What more could we ask for? Yes the costs were reasonable too.

Review 11:Liked the "old fashioned" feel. The staff were excellent with very good interpersonal skills. Provided a new room when young grandson found the one allocated rather "spooky" and brought a chair for the large doll grand daughter brought to breakfast. Breakfast buffet was excellent.

Review 12:Curtains were too heavy for the plastic curtain rail and it fell down when opening the curtains in the morning. View - There was none, however we were only interested in a comfy bed which is what we got.

Review 13:Breakfast was amazing, great food choices.

Review 14:Only down side is parking , had to keep buying a ticket every three hours mounts up over a few days

Review 15:The staff are friendly and helpful , excellent food , very comfortable rooms

Review 16:Nothing, we liked everything there was to offer

Review 17:So near to the shops, just a 2 minute walk and you are there. Excellent breakfast and very polite waiting staff also. All in all we had a great stay and would have no problems booking this hotel again.

Review 18:Room on first floor overlooking South Street very noisy with traffic, especially early in the morning with cleansing and delivery lorries

Review 19:Staff helpful and friendly

Review 20:Not so keen on the restaurant food - preferred the bar meals. Rather a lot of stairs to carry bags.

Review 21:Super location in City Centre. Nice cosy room. Nice bathroom. Pleasant, helpful staff. Handy for public parking. Good bar meals.

Review 22:room was a bit cold at night.

Review 23:A nice pleasant hotel and the staff extremely polite and helpful. I left my jacket in room after checking out, the staff posted it to me the next day without any charge. I received it 3 days later. Thanks

Review 24:Minor point but the floorboards in my bathroom were very creaky. I don't know how it sounded in the room below.

Review 25:The location in the town centre was excellent for my purposes. The meals I had were all very good.

Review 26:Property exterior undergoing refurbishment and frontage scaffolded - not intrusive but not attractive. However, should be an improvement when complete.

Review 27:Central location. Old property with character. Good value.

Review 28:This hotel was conveniently situated for the purpose of my visit. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful throughout my stay. Breakfast was lovely. I will use this hotel in future and will also recommend it to my friends.

Review 29:Room very small tucked away at back of hotel above bins and kitchen but for one night ok

Review 30:In centre of town for price we paid very good value breakfast plentiful and good

Review 31:very creaky floors in room above kept us awake & furniture in room could do with replacing - upholstery on chairs needed a good clean.

Review 32:hotel situation is great for shopping & eating

Review 33:If there was any thing I did not like was as I am a non smoker the smokers all stood just outside the front entrence to the hotel and the smoke came in to the hall way but that's just a personal complaint not really a complaint

Review 34:the hotel was clean and warm the staff were all very chearfull and helpful the breakfast was excellent and the location was very central .

Review 35:Attention to detail in room ie, lack of toiletries, no bath, dirty cups not taken and replaced - bedding not adequate for time of year - cold !!

Review 36:Perth

Review 37:Large gap under the door to the hallway let in a lot of light.

Review 38:Staff very helpful. Nice receptionist helped me out with printing an E Ticket for me, as I had mistakenly ripped one up !! Very clean and comfortable hotel. The buffet breakfast was excellent. Will book again.

Review 39:My only negative comment is with regard to the Hotel bar prices. I consider them to be excessive. I heard a customer ask for a bottle of water. The price given was £ 3.80 . We found the bar almost empty, and would have enjoyed to remain in the Hotel bar had the prices been more realistic.

Review 40:We have stayed at the Salutation Hotel before. It is ideal as it right in the City Centre. The staff were all very friendly. There is currently some major refurbishment work going on to the exterior of the Hotel, look forward to seeing the finished results. Must mention the excellent breakfasts.

Review 41:Window painted shut room stuffy, beds uncomfortable floorboards creaky ,could hear people upstairs as if they were in our room.sleepless nights due to this .

Review 42:Staff fantastic very helpfull and always smiling .

Review 43:None whatsoever.

Review 44:Staff, breakfast was consistently wonderful. I also became ill on our last night and was sick in the bedroom. The staff were on site Immediately, cleaning and changing my bed. I was mortified, but they were so nice and even asked after my health the next day. I was very touched

Review 45:The noisey lads in the room next door at 2:22 am . My wife really wanted a shower cap to avoid wetting her hair

Review 46:Nice central location, clean rooms, comfortable, friendly staff

Review 47:No parking.

Review 48:The atmosphere of this well established hotel. The members of staff were friendly and went out of their way to help. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 49:Hotel needs renovation both inside and out. No WiFi in rooms. No car park but one near by at £9 per day.

Review 50:Excellent staff, friendly and helpful Good breakfast. Variety and good quality food. We paid extra for a family room which had been renovated.

Review 51:Hotel decor a little tired- toilet/shower facilities need modernised- bed not great- room on the small side for two people

Review 52:good location- parking facilities accessible- friendly staff- decent breakfast

Review 53:The hotel had a tied look about it.The bed was hard.Room stuffy even with window open.

Review 54:The location in the centre of city was good the breakfast was very good.

Review 55:The rooms were described as superior and they certainly were not. They were clean but well worn. The floor boards creaked so much in the hotel they disturbed your sleep.

Review 56:The hotel staff were very helpful and attentive and the breakfast was excellent

Review 57:The fact in the morning that my check out wasn't till 11 yet house keeping came to my door twice before 10 and the second time actually opened the door to come in is my only complaint

Review 58:Buffet breakfast was a bit industrial. Whole place needs upgrading but that will cost a fortune as it's a very big, rambling hotel.

Review 59:Good position in centre of Perth, good service with helpful staff.

Review 60:No bedspread over white downie or mattress base valance . room 223

Review 61:Location Excellent for shopping and proximity to concert hall and High street Plenty of restaurants nearby

Review 62:A very enjoyable visit made especially nice with such friendly staff. It was lovely to have my dog made very welcome. Would definitely recommend and stay again!

Review 63:The only thing that I wasn't keen on was the shower. The cubicle was very tight and a larger person such as me could struggle to use it. Also there was no rack to put my shower gel and shampoo on so I had to bend down to pick them up off the floor when I needed to use them. Also I found the water temperature difficult to regulate, One minute it would be cold and the next it would be very hot. The water pressure was fine however.

Review 64:It was in the centre of Perth and not too far from the main shops and the railway station. The bed was very comfortable, room décor excellent and the breakfast also excellent.

Review 65:Single room was small with small bed.

Review 66:Good central location. 24 hour reception. Staff friendly and very helpful. Breakfast very good - great choice available. Decent value.

Review 67:A lovely friendly hotel. Good sized room. I was also thrilled to find out that our dog could stay in the room rather than sleep in car. The receptionist was exceptionally friendly and helpful. Good choice at breakfast.

Review 68:Nothing. Everything good.

Review 69:Hotel was great. Had character, was extremely clean and comfortable. Food was great and staff efficient, helpful and unintrusive. Will definitely use again.

Review 70:No wifi in room, room moved and vibrated when larger vehicles went past on the road. Noise from people on street when pubs emptied. All in all worst night sleep i have had in a long time.Water pipes vibrated loudly when water was used in bathroom.

Review 71:Breakfast was poor compared to other hotels we stayed in - rolls were stale, eggs were overcooked, fruit was canned rather than fresh. Rooms need freshening.

Review 72:Friendly staff, good central location, historic building.

Review 73:Staff were not falling over themselves to be helpful. No personal touches in room. Breakfast was not all out when we came down.

Review 74:The room was clean and fit for purpose.

Review 75:On arrival at our room we didn't have a pleasant first impression asthere was 4 flies circling our room. We got rid of them and went intothe city for a couple of hours but on our return there were more flies.Unfortunately our first impression was our lasting impression resultingin us checking out after only 1 night instead of our booked 2 nights. Also I ordered a bottle of water but when I went to pay at reception thelady told me she couldn't access the system so the water was free, but on checking my bank when arriving home I found the Salutation hadtaken £3.90 from my bank for my "free" water! Our room was notready on arrival even though we arrived well after check in time. Not agood experience overall.

Review 76:Location of Hotel.

Review 77:no in room WIFI but reception area ok. This is an older property with thick walls so I would imagine it would be very expensive to supply WIFI to each room.

Review 78:very friendly staff , a proper scottish welcome !! Varied and very good quality breakfast. Right in the centre of Perth.

Review 79:Very noisy hotel, there was also music festival on till 2am that we weren't informed of at time of booking didn't have much of sleep, apart from needing a revamp was OK no parking don't think worth what we paid.

Review 80:Staff were lovely and the food was excellent, great location,

Review 81:Decor getting tired Had to pay for parking

Review 82:Very helpful reception staff , offered to carry bags on arrival and departure. Nice touch on the complimentary items , can't fault them

Review 83:The bedroom was tiny for the money and I have had much better accommodation elsewhere for a lot less money; I had also requested a room with a bath, which I didn't get; after the manager had made a fuss over dog, 10 minutes later the barmaid came over to us and was quite abrupt about getting the dog out of the bar and walked away from us when we were trying to tell her her boss had been over playing with him and never mentioned he wasn't allowed in to the area; one really dozy waitress at breakfast, who seated the gentleman standing in front of us and walked away, leaving us standing for 5 minutes until anoter waitress noticed us.

Review 84:I like the building, the location, the public spaces, most of the staff are lovely

Review 85:No secondary/double glazing in our room facing on to main Street.

Review 86:Best staffwe have met in our many Perth Hotel stays, always feel totally relaxed when we there.

Review 87:The twin beds were way,way too small. It was very noisy especially the creaky floorboards and a shame Wifi wasn't available in our rooms.

Review 88:Cheryl ,the receptionist was exceptional in her assistance. All of the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful. I loved the old charm of this beautiful hotel.

Review 89:The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The cooked breakfast was amazing - it was hot, tasty and cooked to perfection. I would definitely go back.

Review 90:Hotel is very dated and a little shabby in places. Our room was very poky, the bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever slept in and the bathroom tiny - with the added annoyance of the folding shower screen not staying unfolded when you were in the shower resulting in water everywhere.

Review 91:Good breakfast and friendly staff.

Review 92:Nothing that we didn't like. A wee bit of dust on the detail on the TV table. Not enough to complain about. The outside of the hotel could benefit from a makeover it didn't do justice to the amazing inside.

Review 93:Everything from the first welcome on arrival to when we checked out. Staff so friendly food was good room was amazing. Will definately stay at the salutation hotel next time we come to Perth

Review 94:The hotel advertises Free WiFi in public areas, when in fact the only place you can access the free WiFi is by sitting at reception, this is very misleading.

Review 95:There was one receptionist that was really nice and helpful, I think her name was Sheryl.

Review 96:The hotel is old and a bit tired. The public areas were fine but the bedrooms are in serious need of refurbishment. Beds and towels very clean but otherwise housekeeping in rooms was poor. Lampshades dirty and with holes in them. Skirting boards thick with dust. Walls and ceilings badly marked.

Review 97:As usual the staff in both the Reids Bar and Adams restaurant were excellent. Their customer service skills are excellent and are a credit to the hospitality industry. We stay at the hotel as it is centrally located and has easy access for my mum and friend.

Review 98:First time at hotel and very pleased with everything. Only fault was that we couldn't eat there at night because meals didn't start until six. We were going to the Concert hall for 7.30.

Review 99:I accept the inflated room rate because of the "Open" but would want to negotiate a better deal next time

Review 100:Staff were very good but the breakfast staff led by Helen were superb! Food was very good and we were well looked after in the bar

Review 101:The outside is in desperate need of a coat of paint, but once inside, it is actually OK. Lack of WiFi in the rooms is bad. No onsite parking is also not nice.

Review 102:I had a bad meal in the bar. I should have told the staff earlier but struggled to eat it. A fellow diner , with the same meal gave up and I believe either didn't have to pay or was given another meal. I was only charged half when I told the waiter, who apologised.

Review 103:The breakfast

Review 104:Disappointed that free wifi was only provided in the public areas and not in the rooms. Exterior of property could do with a face lift

Review 105:Excellent location, facilities and meals and staff were very helpful in sorting out any issues that we had, particularly with parking.

Review 106:The shower was tiny and shower door broken (it wouldn't stay on its runner)

Review 107:Breakfast was really good, and was in a central location..staff very helpful

Review 108:We had a room facing the front which was a little noisy on the main rd, and only one double electrical socket which for a family with mobiles hairdryers etc wasn't enough

Review 109:Very friendly staff comfortable beds lovely food

Review 110:The hotel definitely needs an update couldn't use shower it was scalding and the windows rattled in their frames

Review 111:Staff were lovely very friendly and helpful especially cheryl on reception

Review 112:didn't spend a great deal of time in hotel as we were at a party in a different part of town.as it was the t in the park weekend it was very noisy, its the first hotel I have been in where the guests came in for breakfast wearing dirty shorts and wellingtons,

Review 113:No car park on site, but there's 3 within a short walk. (all pay & display -free between 6pm-8am).The multi story didn't look particularly welcoming. But that's not the hotels fault. It was however very well lit after dark . If you want wifi, its only available in bar & reception. Fine if you either want a drink or share your space with a dozen others on phones, tablets and laptops. To be fair the layout of the building probably makes wifi in the rooms practically impossible.

Review 114:Staff very friendly and welcoming. The outside street view does look a little run down ,, but the inside is not. Good buffet style breakfast.

Review 115:Seagulls on the roof tops making a loud noise most of the night! Room very hot (3rd floor) and with window open the seagulls didn't make for a peaceful night!

Review 116:Very friendly, helpful staff Choice of bar or restaurant to eat Great location and free overnight parking behind in multi storey

Review 117:No shears on the windows - so when we opened the window as it was quite warm - the room filled with flies..... We wer given a small fan - but being able to open the window would have been better

Review 118:Breakfast

Review 119:It was a lovely relaxing 2night stay , the staff are friendly and happy and are very helpful . The food is excellent and generous portions , breakfast brilliant start to the day

Review 120:Exterior shabby, décor dated, wifi didn't reach our room...

Review 121:Location, value for money, lovely helpful staff, traditional bar supper (scampi, steak pie etc) very good

Review 122:There are elevators, but they are not really helpful as you still need to climb half-floor with all luggage. Old premises, old beds. Wifi is accessible only in lobby and does not work properly. Very slow and could not open pages.

Review 123:Good location, city centre. Public parking is 3 minutes walk, 90p/hour and free at night. Great breakfast in beautiful dining hall, huge variety of food offered. Tesco supermarket is very close.

Review 124:The distance and cost of the car parking. Our room was a bit disappointing, supposed to be a superior double but was quite small and overlooked the dustbins.

Review 125:In a central position, lovely old building. Restaurant and bar both served good meals..

Review 126:Everything was very pleasant for an old building bedroom was more than adequate. Staff were all very helpful and extremely courteous. Would stay there again.

Review 127:The phone in the room doesn't work, the TV in the room doesn't work when I complain I was told there's nothing they could do. The room had a really bad smell also there's no internet in the room. Worst hotel I ever stay

Review 128:Nothing

Review 129:Some parts of hotel very dated. Certain bar person ignored me when I spoke to him and never smiled. Hotel hosted an 18th party and guests ran riot through hotel at night.

Review 130:Made to feel welcome on arrival. Food was lovely. Any problems, staff were on hand to help.

Review 131:The Internet access could have been better, if available to the rooms

Review 132:Was very impressed with the history of the hotel, the cleanliness of the rooms and friendliness of the staff. Nothing was to difficult for the staff to make our stay enjoyable.

Review 133:The Sally's staff couldn't be more helpful, business-like with the human touch too!! Awesome breakfast, just the thing you need to start the day. Reid Bar bar meals are value for momey too.

Review 134:My windows in my room were old and kept rattling. Eventually I had to jam it so I could attempt sleep. Unfortunately, despite asking for a room on top floor at the back (so that I wasn't disturbed by traffic on main street), the pub in the courtyard behind the hotel kept me awake. Advise updating windows to double glazing asap. Waste of money to stay there.

Review 135:Lovely reception staff.

Review 136:Bathrooms badly in need of upgrade, smelled damp shower head faced the wall so we could stand under it had to hold it over us on telling receptionist that morn she promised would be fixed for us coming in later but wasn't I turned shower head holder with great difficulty & managed to get it to stay on till we got showers

Review 137:We enjoyed every part of it great staff great food great location rooms bit dated but spotless we had a fantastic weekend
