Reviews for The Beaufort Hotel
Review 1:The shower in our room was really poor, the water was just trickling out and had no power at all.
Review 2:The Beaufort arms was a charming old hotel, staff were very friendly and helpful, nice bar area and our room was very large and comfortable.
Review 3:The room was in need of repair- window blind broken. Basin in the room had cigarette burns on it. The electric shower unit was so old. The power switch was broken and the unit had been taped together. The paint on the original tiles was flaking off. Had to pay extra for breakfast.
Review 4:The staff were helpful and friendly. Good location in the town
Review 5:room was very small but adequate, likewise the private shower/WC washroom.
Review 6:Easy to find with friendly staff. Busy restaurant downstairs which I didn't try. Did not see any of the other rooms
Review 7:Tthe room was very pokey hardly any room to move around hardly any cupboard space and no shelf in the bathroom. The beds (we were in a twin) were very uncomfortable in fact one was like a camp bed. There was quite a lot of noise from the bar area.
Review 8:The breakfasts and the location
Review 9:The shower had no water pressure and even when water temp turned right up was not that hot. Had difficulty finding rooms with the 'A' as signage not obvious
Review 10:There was plenty of effort made with little extras on the room.
Review 11:1. Loud music from bar until 11.25pm audible in room. Would have called reception to complain but no phone apparent in room. Phone discovered in the morning on windowsill behind curtain 2. No hot water in shower - no power to wall unit outside shower cubicle. Called reception (using newly discovered phone) at 7.25am to report but no answer. Consequently no shower taken. Did receive apology from reception at checkout. Apparently should have been advised of a switch within room enabling power to shower unit. 3. Cooked vegetarian breakfast did not match menu description (e.g. different brand of sausage, no fried bread) and toast not offered until near the end of meal. 4. Basic room with small cathode ray TV.
Review 12:Friendly staff, good location, good value for money.
Review 13:Room looked tired. Bathroom door handle broken. Bathroom tink shower very poor When I informed staff we had been locked In he didn't seem bothered
Review 14:Location
Review 15:Poor quality bedroom, virtually unmanageable shower temperature, fluctuating between very hot & cold.
Review 16:Very good location for Railway station and access to Millennium Stadium
Review 17:The hotel building itself appears shabby both inside and out. The room looked weary and the ensuite was beyond small. We had to ask the receptionist if someone could come and set the table for breakfast as it was still a mess from the previous occupiers and no one was waiting on in the restaurant. The food was alright, but again we had to first find and then ask the waitress where the toast was. Her attitude was neither apologetic nor friendly and we were made to feel like awkward customers, despite the fact that we only wanted what we had ordered. Good service makes all the difference, but the management need to care in order for this to happen. Overall, a very disappointing stay.
Review 18:The hotel is in a good location for the town centre.
Review 19:Hotel needs "gutting". Ensuite was toilet and shower with washbasin in room. Toilet handle dodgy; shower out of the ark as was the tv. Bedside light didn't work, and to open the window needed to push bolt into window frame. Couldn't get a meal before 18:30 when chef came on duty.
Review 20:A bit run down, shower was very poor, bathroom could do with updating. Seriously limited parking!
Review 21:Excellent location close to station. Staff were helpful and friendly. Free wifi.
Review 22:Room freezing, dated and shabby. Heating didn't wirk, hot water ran just about warm. Very disappointed for the price we paid. Did complain but this was just shrugged off!! Would NEVER stay here again!!!!
Review 23:The bar snacks were good
Review 24:Very tired décor and although sheets on beds and towels were clean, the chairs in our room were disgustingly dirty and the bed was very uncomfortable - cheapest mattress you could imagine. The general feel of the place was that it could do with a good clean and general overhaul! We paid £105 for one night which did not include breakfast which I think was very overpriced for the standard of hotel.
Review 25:Location was good
Review 26:The hotel was in need of a tidy up and the rooms were in dire need of an update. It would be lovely to see it restored to a modern Period style. Our room was particularly dissappointing with uncomfortable twin beds positioned as if it was a childrens room and the bathroom lacked privacy as it was 'open- topped' - very odd!
Review 27:Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good
Review 28:coffee cups left after washing with water in bottom and hot chocolate sachet and biscuits in cup in water. Cups still stained. This happened every day
Review 29:Value for money and great location
Review 30:The first night we were there, we couldn't close the window. There's obviously a knack to it, which we didn't have. It was therefore, very noisy during the night until we could get a member of staff to close it in the morning. We also had to get the shower looked at, as it was running hot and cold.
Review 31:No wifi in rooms, poor wifi in hotel. The bed was uncomfortable and has given me a bad back. Dinner was small, Breakfast was cold. The bar smelt of vomit.
Review 32:The customers I met
Review 33:Everything to dislike - music until 2.30am - bar open until 4am - loud/raucous group of guests which continued at breakfast, very unpleasant for me and a lady with a 7yr old girl - the shower was held together with gaffer tape and every time an electric switch was used in the room the TV stopped for 2/3 seconds.
Review 34:room well cleaned, but carpet stained, wallpaper in bed room bubbling, the whole room needs redecorating, bathroom paper coming away in more than one place, shower no adjustment only cold or scalding so did not use, mould around bath. unless you wanted to keep the curtains pulled to no privacy as other guests walking past window.
Review 35:position
Review 36:Hotel is out dated, needs decorating and cleaning up cobwebs and dust all over, no curtains and wifi not working on room.
Review 37:Location was very good for the town centre.
Review 38:Car parking facilities difficult to find on first approach and inadequate to cater for all guests. No priority seemed to be given to disabled parking, and no lift in the hotel.
Review 39:Staff were helpful and competent
Review 40:As the reviews say it has a tired décor, which was ok with me as it was just somewhere to sleep, however sleep it seems was too much to ask. The room we had (2A) was really hot even though it was only around 14 degrees outside. The window was open when we arrived and we kept it open as much as we could but it wouldn't have been safe to leave it overnight as it led straight onto a fire escape stairs (I don't think it would have made much difference anyway to be honest). Other rooms my be different, but I'd steer clear of 2A!
Review 41:Cheap and cheerful located in centre of Chepstow and close to Castle.
Review 42:Safe seemed a little rude Room wasn't as clean as you would expect for the price and the curtains let in to much light. Shower was very poor indeed
Review 43:Location very good
Review 44:bed was uncomfortable; shower was a dribble, walls were paper thin; windows could not be closed in the bathroom as the handle had fallen off and as this was a family room this would be dangerous for children; door to bathroom could not be closed; the common areas had a nasty damp smell, and the whole place looked in need of an overhaul
Review 45:The location of the hotel is very good in central Chepstow
Review 46:Staff a bit rude. At check in we were told breakfast was until 11, but the day after went for breakfast and were told it was until 10. So we missed breakfast and not for our fault.
Review 47:The room was clean and very nice. The beds very comfortable. Excellent location
Review 48:I wouldn't say it was a really bad experience. It was fairly comfortable, although the decor was old-fashioned and not inspiring. The first bedroom we were offered smelt very musty, so I asked for another room. I felt I couldn't stay in that room. At first the response was that it was clean, but I said, it may be clean but it has an unmistakeable musty smell. They then offered another room. Thank goodness! The room was pretty warm, and the windows were very easy to open. The bottom one needed propping with a piece of wood. However, there were blinds and good curtains to keep the light out in the morning. The room was above the kitchen which accounted for the warmth. Nice in winter. Less so in summer. There was a nice bath, but the bathroom took up quite a lot of space in the room, and I thought it would have been better if it had been a shower. It was a bit awkward accessing the toilet as it was behind the door, but once the door was closed there was enough room. There was quite a bit of noise at night. i could hear voices talking until 1.00 a,m. in the morning and footsteps going past once in the night. Other wise it was quiet. I thought the cost of £85 for the double room (with ensuite bathroom) was quite a lot. However, it was in the town centre and convenient for us. We had breakfast nearby so we don't know what the breakfast would have been like. I did not feel very inspired to eat meals there as the decor seemed rather dark and not very attractive.
Review 49:It was in the town and we could walk to the castle easily. Also it was near the station. Just a short walk
Review 50:Room was too small to be a twin, and badly in need of redecorating. Teaming facilities had no teaspoons. Breakfast orange juice was like flavoured water. Breakfast was barely adequate.
Review 51:Location was very good
Review 52:A poor value for money hotel that in my opinion is maximising every penny from its guests. Why do they charge for breakfast? The room we had was small and very cramped (a single room turned into a double?). The staff although friendly lack experience and are overworked, a 16 year old waiter serving breakfast with it seems no help. Our room was not made up till 4.00. A very poor experience, never again
Review 53:Other than a great location there is not a lot to say that is good about this hotel
Review 54:tv and radio reception poor in room. too many stairs for disabled person.
Review 55:nice traditional layout, very central and convenient, lot of info, filling breakfasts, nice staff
Review 56:The breakfast was too expensive and not included with the room charge. The price we booked one of the rooms of 3 was less (£60) than what they said normally charge for a Saturday night stay (£75). I couldn't find my booking on the spot to show them when we checked out, my child must have deleted it. Surprisingly the girl at the desk didn't remember that on the day we checked in( 1night stay) I told her our room prices (3rooms) and showed her my email confirmation with booking.com. I paid her asking price and I have to find my booking to claim back the difference.
Review 57:Very good location, just on top of the pedestrian shopping street, free parking, reasonable room sizes.
Review 58:Bed was very hard. A nice room, but tiny and not as clean as most hotels. Closing the window did not shut out the noise from the courtyard & kitchen below. Very creaky flooring, so was disturbed by people in the room above. It served the purpose, but for me it was expensive for what it was. The car park was full and so was the public pay & display car park, so I was very lucky that the next day was Sunday & parked outside the dentist.
Review 59:Lovely, helpful staff.
Review 60:Bed not made properly, mattress cover stained and sheets didn't look very clean. Room had not been swept. Bathroom shelves dirty, floor dirty and plughole extremely unpleasant. Room needed a very thorough clean.
Review 61:Location was perfect
Review 62:With a car you have to find the back of the hotel, which is well hidden in the Chepstow one-way system. The hotel is close to a busy road and the sash windows do not offer much sound insulation.
Review 63:The room was clean and well-appointed. The breakfast was freshly prepared and was excellent.
Review 64:Room facing the beer garden where other customers were shouting each night, Basin not in the bathroom but outside room was a bit inconvenient, if water is spilt. Mattress was a bit wonky. No staff available on reception when I had to check out.
Review 65:Location was convenient,
Review 66:Plumbing not that great but as expected in older style properties. Limited car parking at rear but also public car park nearby Evening meals somewhat pricey but many alternatives available within walking distance including large Tesco just across the road
Review 67:Good location in centre of Chepstow, Olde World atmosphere, friendly efficient staff, cosy bar with outside seating area also popular with locals, excellent breakfast to start the day. Very close to motorway and old Severn crossing, easy for airports and other connections in South Wales
Review 68:One rude morning receptionist. Sticky breakfast tables. On arrival bathroom mirror light had dead bulb, TV zapper had flat batteries. Room was also the fire exit, entry door height low; no sign stating 'Mind your head'. This door had been deliberately lowered. Hotel decoration tired. Needs make-over.
Review 69:Position. Helpful, friendly handyman.
Review 70:But all of that was destroyed by the appalling welcome we received. I had requested a double room and added a note asking for a room away from the main street. I was given a twin room and when I pointed out my original requests, I was told booking.com was out of their control, the hotel doesn't really read requests and if I'm not happy I could always go somewhere else! Shocking customer service.
Review 71:Location is good. Bar area is nice with a good atmosphere. We watched a bit of Wimbledon here with guests and locals and it was great. The little garden area at the back of the hotel is a real suntrap.
Review 72:It was noisy from the moment I booked in There is a Disco next door which goes on till late then everyone from the club seems to congregate outside the hotel swearing and fighting at the top of their voices The hotel staff to scared to move them on I was exhausted ater scuba diving all day to then not be able to rest a proper night so as to Dive again the next day TRULY APPAULED
Review 73:The fact the room smelt , no toilet paper , no soap shampoo, body wash, it hadn't been cleaned properly, the bed was uncomtable ,to low to the floor, in need of redecoration , the blind was broken , I could go on but I think you get the picture.
Review 74:Nothing
Review 75:No hot water but this was compensated by no charge for breakfast.
Review 76:This is what we would call in Australia a great little country pub. Friendly staff and patrons. Other than the water it was a very pleasant stay!
Review 77:The wifi did not work well in the room, although this was not a major problem since it worked in common areas.
Review 78:Superb staff. Decent food. Plenty of locals to meet. Great location in the center of town with access to transportation (train and bus).
Review 79:Bathroom was quite cramped, Bedroom would benefit from refurbishment, as would the pillows
Review 80:Friendly, helpful staff. Free Car parking at the hotel, which was in the middle of town. Excellent dinners at a reasonable price.
Review 81:Room too hot led to a lot of road noise when window had to be opened. Uncomfortable pillows and bed, plus had to re-make bed on arrival as under sheets all ruffled up in lumps. Shower very un-inviting. Whole room and bathroom needed a good clean.
Review 82:It was only £45.00. Note to self - spend more in future, you usually get what you pay for.
Review 83:Towels not changed wHen placed in bath. Wifi did not reach our room which was outside the main building. Duvet was too small for bed. Plastic sheeting was very uncomfortable and sweaty and did not fit bed so came off in middle of night.
Review 84:Tea and biscuits and hot chocolate. Nice bar. Central location. Parking available.
Review 85:My room was at the back of the building but I would imagine that if I had been in a room next to the bar, it may have been a bit noisy, particularly at the weekend. But that would be expected and I think that is reflected in the price.
Review 86:central location, friendly staff. Also I was upgraded from a single room to a quieter double room at no extra charge (and without requesting it)
Review 87:TV didn't work, shower a bit pathetic, some of the lights didn't work. Some in the bedroom didn't switch on, bathroom light wouldn't switch off.
Review 88:Great location, friendly staff.
Review 89:Noisy neighbours in the room above who must have been having tap dancing lessons.
Review 90:Great big bedrooms staff were very warm and freindly and there was a nice local atmosphere in the bar. Eat supper one evening and my wife and i had an excellent meal.all in all a decent value for money place to stay and we will be back.
Review 91:Bedroom needed some TLC. 1 towel provided which was small and thin, a 2nd slightly better provided on request. Our car was damaged in the small carpark where care needed to be taken. CCTV not aimed at where our car was parked!!!
Review 92:Staff tried hard. They responded to our report of car damage but apparently could not help us
Review 93:Family with young children in room above woke up at 6am Sunday and made a horrendous noise for several making sleep impossible.
Review 94:Good atmosphere in the public rooms
Review 95:Small car park (had to park in public one across the road). wifi never worked. Rooms clean but 'tired' and noisy (loud TV, plumbing).
Review 96:Located in centre of Chepstow. Friendly staff. Good cooked breakfast
Review 97:Not much selection of beers and nothing local. Bathroom needed updating. Both nights we were disturbed by noise from residents coming back in the early hours. Very thin walls.
Review 98:Choice of food and value good.
Review 99:Cold shower. Bedroom too hot, unable to turn radiator down or open window. Messy reception area. Receptionist being continually interrupted by another member of staff whilst dealing with our departure.
Review 100:Location of hotel
Review 101:Thought my room was a bit dated and although it had been booked i had to ask for the heating when i arrived
Review 102:Staff were really friendly, I was there for a night after the rugby so that made the atmosphere and the staff all joined the fun and banter.
Review 103:The room was old looking and scruffy, the whole hotel was old and scruffy, fausty smell throughout, staff not the friendliest, overall bad value for my money.
Review 104:The Bar sold Magners.Good location close to the action.
Review 105:Not warm enough for this time of year. Inadequate central heating for the room and certainly the bathroom. One of the ladies brought us a heater to supplement the room temperature. Thank you for that.
Review 106:Lovely, helpful staff and a basic but clean room.
Review 107:The two local men at the bar kissing and cuddling all night was too much and thoroughly spoilt our meal as they were in full view of the restaurant.
Review 108:Nice old hotel but shame about the drunk locals.
Review 109:Creaky floorboards, no lift, water pressure in bathroom was very low, heating not on at all times (stayed in Dec temp 2% outdoors) window didn't shut properly had to stuff the gap with a towel.
Review 110:Clean, comfortable, friendly, good food, well stocked hostess tray.
Review 111:The shower in the room was appalling , I spent 10 mins trying to get some heat into it without success . I went down and complained to reception and was told "yeah I know all the showers here are awful' I was also told that they could do nothing about it . It's like going back 30 years to how hotels were . Poor Value due to the shower situation
Review 112:The hot water was very slow coming in the handbasin and the noise level was high owing to the old floorboards but that is probably to be expected.
Review 113:The staff were very helpful and considerate and I enjoyed my dinner and lunch very much.
Review 114:No problems it is what it is
Review 115:Staff very helpful, friendly, well stocked bar , nice vibe to the place , location ideal centre of town with parking near by.
Review 116:The predominantly young staff were very pleasant and helpful and what they lacked in experience they made up for by their enthusiasm. It was situated perfectly for all the business we had to conduct.
Review 117:Don't go for the single room - you'd have more room if you slept in your car! No wifi in my room either - which was the main reason I chose this hotel over others.
Review 118:Central location. Plenty of space in the car park.
Review 119:some staff didn't have a clue. couldn't find my booking when rang to confirm arrival. First staff forgot to charge me for room and then tried to charge me twice.
Review 120:lovely room clean, tidy, homely. bed was very comfortable. bathroom was spotlessly clean.
Review 121:Room old fashioned, dark, not particularly clean and boiling hot as central heating pipes ran through it. Large party of builders stayed at the same time and partied until 4 in the morning so we got little sleep which meant we were tired for the rest of our weekend away which was to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. We got blocked in several times in the parking area at the rear which was jam packed with builders vans and staff cars etc. Apologies were made by the receptionist on explaining how bad our stay was but we still had to pay the full price.
Review 122:NO hot water in our room. Mattress on bed uncomfortable. Room very small x2 Dark Hairs in breakfast Unadvised of party/function going n in room below our room.
Review 123:Evening meal was nice, service was good, staff pleasant.
Review 124:Hotel dated but i gave it a nice character to be honest. And for the money it was worth the stay !!
Review 125:staff friendly. Hotel needs upgrading however it was good value. Stayed for Halloween night with my mates. Had a great night out in the local pubs then returned to the hotel. I will be returning. Excellent location and nice stay overall
Review 126:The room was very small and not as advertised. The bathroom was tiny and the sink was in the room.
Review 127:I liked the location and the staff were very friendly
Review 128:Reception service was a little slow during check in. Had to wait quite a while for someone to come and attend to us.
Review 129:Bar staff were excellent and very friendly. Food was top notch.
Review 130:Everything was good but the food tended to be a little expensive.
Review 131:The hotel was clean and comfortable with a spacious, tastefully decorated room. Location was excellent.
Review 132:Our room was clean and airy with a comfy bed, tea and coffee and biscuits.Good value. We were greeted by Chantelle who was very helpful, pleasant and charming during our stay.We had a meal in the restaurant in the evening which was well presented and well cooked. Rick our waiter could not do enough for us. Try the Sunday lunch its exellent. We would definitely stay here again at this hotel.
Review 133:There was (what looked like) blood on the curtains Cold shower and only 1 towel. Event downstairs- room shaking with noise level. We were given no prior notice of this (we have a 1 year old) Very hot room (couldn't open window owing to noise)
Review 134:Staff tried to rectify problems after being asked a couple of times
Review 135:No parking available for guests if arrive late. Requested room on lower floor but given a room up 2 flights of stairs. Male staff member joked about it and did not offer to help with luggage. No information or town map available.
Review 136:Room as expected but bathroom very small.
Review 137:The satnav directed me to the front door where is no parking and at the start of a pedestrian precinct. I would have been better to publicise the fact that the car park (although restricted to about ten cars) with a rear entrance to the hotel is in Nelson Street. I asked for a room on the ground floor and the room which we were given was accessed from the car park but because of the vehicle and patron movements meant that the window had to be kept close for noise reduction. The window frame was shoddy inside the room and the room was damp. Not ideal.
Review 138:This was my second visit to the hotel. Previously I was alone and had a single room. The location is ideal and I would be happy to stay in the hotel again should I find myself in Chepstow. But in a different room! The staff were both friendly and efficient and the food was excellent with very good value for money.
Review 139:Room could have thoroughly been cleaned before our arrival bearing in mind we arrived late evening. Dirty tissues had been left in bedside table. Shower took about 10mins to run before any hot water. Could have also had a note of hotel wifi passwords in the room.
Review 140:When we got there we found an extra bed in the room which was a bonus because it was advertised as a double and meant my friend and I had a bed each. Staff cleaned room when we were out and teas/coffees restocked. Beds were very comfy and nice quiet location but near enough to big tesco and coffee shops/restaurants.
Review 141:(There is a rather alarmingly wobbly bannister at the top of the stairs - it is an old building and maybe needs just a little more attention here and there)
Review 142:The best thing about the hotel, along with the fantastically central location, is the pleasant, enthusiastic and thoughtful attitude of all its staff. From the cleaner who offered to move her car for us, to the receptionist who made us feel very welcome, and the restaurant/kitchen staff who went a little off-menu for us without batting an eye-lid, they couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. We stayed with our 13 yr old son with communication difficulties, and it is rare for us to ever feel so accepted and at ease in a hotel. The Beaufort Hotel is not luxurious but very comfortable and clean and serves fantastic food - it is attractive without being pretentious, lacking the manicured sterility of most chain-hotels. It is homely without being overly-familiar, lively without being too loud - just a nice place to stay for a reasonable price. Good job! (K. York)
