Reviews for Mortimer Arms Inn

Review 1:I thought the standard of cleanliness had room for improvement. The cups in the room had not been washed properly, and dish washing powder on the breakfast cups. The bathroom required elbow grease. Cushions looked tired,out-dated & drab.

Review 2:Location was good, breakfast enjoyable, nice quiet room. The person at Reception was extremely pleasant & helpful.

Review 3:Wifi seemed a bit intermittent, depending on where you were in the hotel

Review 4:The food is superb. Evening meals are excellent with a good choice of specials and the breakfasts are lovely.

Review 5:Room 4 is not suitable for anybody. The noise from a fan and motor is constant all night, and I was not able to get much sleep. Will definitely not stay there again in room 4. This room should be taken off the list of rooms available.

Review 6:Stayed here several times in the past, always good. Friendly helpful staff. Given upgraded room which was very comfortable. Restaurant has a good selection of food, the steak pie was the best I have had in ages.

Review 7:Heating not working in room, got back to room at nearly 01.00 couldn't get a drink, my room was freezing all night & shower cubicle very mouldy. I wouldn't entertain guests in my own home if no hearting & shower that should be cleaned with mould & mildew remover

Review 8:Friendly staff in bar

Review 9:No shower in the room. Aparantly some rooms do have showers so I could have switched. I will remember for next time.

Review 10:Room was fantastic, staff very friendly. Food was exceptional especially the breakfast...! Great location, 2 mins from the motorway. A good choice of real ales on too..!

Review 11:Shower cubicle needs some TLC on the tile grouting which spoils the overall cleanliness in en suite.

Review 12:Large soft bath towel and lots of hot water ! Good bed linen on a comfy bed. Substantial freshly cooked breakfast -( poached egg was perfect ! )

Review 13:Staff very helpful, breakfast enjoyable, comfortable room. Only draw back was surprised there were not a telephone in the room to get in touch with family or relations staying in the hotel and more importantly if there is an emgency.

Review 14:Our room (Berkeley - room 7) was above the restaurant and VERY noisy at 8am on a Sunday morning. No chance of a lie in! There was a wedding on which clearly took priority - there was a large group of us for lunch and as both diners and hotel guests we were definitely an afterthought. The owner/manager could do with smiling more; she was fairly abrupt (but maybe just having a bad weekend...)

Review 15:We arrived early and were allowed to use a spare room to get ready in as our room was still being made up. However the guests for the spare room then turned up so we had to finish getting ready in our car!

Review 16:Two female members of staff were very brusk. We were made to feel an unwanted interruption in their work load. Décor needed some TLC. Twin beds were very uncomfortable. Kept sliding around. Bathroom had water leaking from somewhere.

Review 17:The food was excellent.

Review 18:Was a little noisy, both from the neighboring rooms and the bar below. Didn't go late, but we were there on a weekday, so I expect weekends would be worse.

Review 19:Location was great, easy to find. Staff was helpful and very friendly. Shower was amazing, especially after having many sub-par facilities in the previous days in our trip.

Review 20:Good choice of reasonably priced food and drinks. Good cooked breakfast but some fruit and yoghurt would have been nice. Room clean with good linen and towels.

Review 21:Very comfortable bed, great food and friendly staff. This Hotel has a bit of character,I seem to spend so much time in soulless plasticity hotels these days.

Review 22:Only 1 bulb working in the bedroom out of 3, no plug socket near a mirror to straighten hair, water pressure was pathetic, very dusty/dirty.

Review 23:Some friendly staff

Review 24:One particular staff member who we think was management was very rude about seating for hotel guests and quite miserable.

Review 25:We stayed in the York Room which was excellent, 4 poster bed very comfy. Roll top bathroom felt like luxury and the countryside views were perfect. Amazing location for both Pepper Pig land which is right next door and adventures into the new forest which was very accessible (we took the car, hotel parking facilities were great). Food at the pub was lovely, a true full English for breakfast. Apart from that everything was great and well worth the money!

Review 26:Some of the staff were a bit uneasy when children were around... That made the environment not very friendly to families with young children.

Review 27:Location, food and the fact that our family room was a connected room; that gave us enough space for children to play around.

Review 28:Unfortunately the bed was a little uncomfortable for us both and the shower cubicle small.

Review 29:The staff were all extremely helpful Excellent service throughout our stay.

Review 30:Did not realise the hotel is used by young families visiting Paultons Park. Lots of young children so sometimes noisey

Review 31:Location. Breakfast was very good - individually cooked each day.

Review 32:Room was tired and needed a good paint, curtains were really dusty. To be fair the rest of the room was clean. I was on business and needed an early start. Chef arrived 30mins late and we were told breakfast may be delayed. To be fair the manager was immediately on the case and breakfast arrived quicker than anticipated after the delay but it wasn't acceptable

Review 33:Staff were very friendly. Pub was nice and as a business traveller it was nice to have some good on site prepared and cooked pub grub as opposed to chain hotel grub.

Review 34:The room was a bit noisy with something like an air-con unit outside the window which buzzed periodically throughout the night.

Review 35:I booked a double room for 2 guests, but as I was on my own in the end, the hostess generously lowered the room charge.

Review 36:Clean Close location to theme park Staff friendliness, always willing to help Freshly cooked food for evening meal and breakfast- plenty of choice Child friendly and accommodating Not overcrowded

Review 37:Cracked sink leaking onto the floor - plans for change in place but not done. No reduction offered. Glasses stained from dishwasher at breakfast. Very noisy - ? air conditioning or kitchen noise below our room (4.)

Review 38:Close proximity to our family party. Generous breakfast. Great parking facilities. Efficient staff.

Review 39:Room in need of decorating very tired look including furniture.

Review 40:Food very good and a good sized room. Ideal for business trip location close to clients.

Review 41:Did not have a bad experience

Review 42:Hotel well placed, was quite near to the main road but was very quiet so no problem at all. was easy to find. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good sized room and bathroom. Staff particularly helpful at breakfast, continued to serve tea and coffee after close time which is unusual in some establishments and a sign of really good service.

Review 43:The only minor criticism was the issue of obtaining access to our room as this meant wheeling suitcases through the bar and restaurant on arrival and departure.

Review 44:Extremely comfortable, well appointed and good sized room with lovely en-suite facilities. Excellent food and great service. Would definitely book again.

Review 45:Old, uncomfortable bed, room over-priced given dated furniture, no easy chair, no full length mirror, kettle lead wouldn't reach plug socket without relocation, dim light bulbs - perfectly clean, but a flat screen TV doesn't compensate for lack of the modern touches that a traveller paying £80+ expects in 2015.

Review 46:Easy to find, big car park. Friendly staff.

Review 47:Dirty floor last nights chips still on thr carpet from night before at breakfast as well as days old solid ketchup on the table. The tea/coffee cups were stained and even still dirty, could scrape my nail through the residue every morning. Poor in room plumbing the sinks disturbs the shower and causes rise of the most awful stench pubic hair and grime from its plug at every drain, as well as leaking through it cracks on to the floor.

Review 48:location.

Review 49:Although the tissue holder was broken and Wifi signal was not stable, these were not significant.

Review 50:The hotel is well managed by a team of kind and passionate staff, especially Kristy. The website showed that the hotel could not provide luggage storage service after checking out, the House Manager, Ms. Linda BLACK allowed us to leave our luggage in the Hotel during visiting the Paulton's Park. It is very much appreciated. The food was fantastic and delicious. In order to avoid extra workload to the staff, please be reminded that all guests should be able to finish the breakfast and leave the dining hall before 10:00 am.

Review 51:Bed not very comfortable, hairdryer didn't work (which I only found out after I'd washed my hair!). Quite noisy with babies crying and children running around and the noise transferance from people walking down the hallway was quite bad but it is an olds building.

Review 52:Good size room, clean and tidy. Lovely breakfast.

Review 53:Stay was marred by inconsiderate noisy delivery drivers early each morning and some of the other guests with young children

Review 54:Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely breakfast

Review 55:small bathroom shower kept falling off also the bed was hard andno headboard as wasnt next to wall so my son hit his head on screws twice not good.

Review 56:great location great food nice staff big tv in room down stairs lovely food

Review 57:Nothing really. Shower didn't drain when using it but I reported it to the staff who made a note to get it sorted. It did drain slowly over a hour or so. But this was a very very minor point.

Review 58:Everything - had a fantastic room (14). Shower was AMAZING - really powerful. Food really good and decent prices. Would absolutely stay there again - no hesitation.

Review 59:The décor was tired and our room was in need of redecoration. The wifi was extremely slow - in fact I gave up.

Review 60:Great location for Paultons Park. The staff were exceptionally friendly and very helpful. The food is very good too. Would recommend if visiting the park.

Review 61:we discovered after booking that there was a potentially noisy function on so rang asking to get a room away from the noise area. I was assured this would happen. on arrival, our room was almost on top of the function and the noise was as if in the room. I had to go downstairs until it finished as couldn't even hear the TV in the room. Requested an alternate room but advised none was available. Although music stopped at 11.00 some customer noise continued. Had I been advised where the room was to be would we have booked alternate accommodation. Be Honest with your customers, that's what annoyed me, not in the end, the noise which you expect when staying at a pub.

Review 62:Staff friendly, food good

Review 63:We stayed over night before going on cruise, the hotel was a easy 15 min drive to docks, enjoyed good evening meal &breakfast. Would use this hotel again!

Review 64:The sofa bed in our family room was a bit past its sleep by date. Would have been nice to also have a little fridge in the family room as with kids you always need stuff.

Review 65:We loved the location, so close to Pautons Park. The food was very nice, we were able to let the children play in the garden and relax. The atmosphere was lovely, the decor nice.

Review 66:the room was really stuffy even keeping the windows open all night didnt help, really squeaky floorboards in our room and when anyone walked past the door

Review 67:friendly ,helpfull staff, the food was amazing,we had lunch, dinner and breakfast and could not fault the food, cooked well and good sized portions, really tasty !!

Review 68:The noise of fridge/freezer felt like I was sleeping in the kitchen! Such a shame as room itself fab but also in need of a paint.

Review 69:Liked the comfortable feeling of place. Room large and airy. Shower fabulous pressure. Staff helpful. Food amazing.

Review 70:We loved the location close to Peppa Pig World. It was so nice to walk to and from the park both days. The food was amazing at the pub and also having outdoor space for kids to run about in the evening was perfect!

Review 71:Honest staff, I left my mobile phone there and didn't realise until my friend got a call asking if one of us had left a phone behind! A quick trip the following day and phone was returned with a smile.

Review 72:An ideal place for a colleague and myself to stay before an early meeting the following day. The food was excellent - all home made and fresh.... and the real ale and red wine were pretty good too...!

Review 73:Extra £15 added on for 'bed hire' although I booked a family room and it haf a sofa bed which was obviously always in that room.

Review 74:Quality food and staff were lovely

Review 75:Whole place would benefit from a lick of paint and the few peeling pieces of wallpaper repaired. Unnecessarily Let's down a very nice hotel.

Review 76:Food excellent. Nice staff, clean room.

Review 77:Our first room was noisy, next to the freezer room, and we were moved to a beautiful room straight away.

Review 78:The staff were so nice, friendly and very helpful. Even though the hotel gets really busy, it was very peaceful at night.

Review 79:The vegetarian sausage served at breakfast could not even be cut, let alone eaten. Otherwise the Full English Breakfast was fine!

Review 80:The evening meal in the restaurant was exceptional. Thoroughly recommend the Beef Brisket!

Review 81:Kept awake during night by air con unit at bottom of our window. Delivery at 7 am with beeping horn and knocking on doors . A real shame as everything else was lovely

Review 82:Food and staff were lovely.

Review 83:We were given the wrong room .. Shower was dirty and the paint was coming off the bathroom walls .., Breakfast was served cafe style .. Mugs of tea .. Very distasteful.

Review 84:Nothing

Review 85:Located next door to a noisy road with traffic that woke me up early, bathroom could have been cleaner, there were stains on a chair in the bedroom. Overall the location was poor and it could have been cleaner.

Review 86:Staff were nice, accomodating and did their best

Review 87:i smell not nice from the carpet and didnt realize theres no bus service on a sunday and end up to hire taxi to city centre which cost me more.

Review 88:Very close to paulton park

Review 89:Room really needs re furnishing. Stains on walls that were not cleaned off. Cupboard where iron etc was was dirty. Four light bulbs that needed replacing.

Review 90:Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent

Review 91:EASY TO FIND. EASY TO PARK. FRIENDLY WELCOME. EXCELLENT EVENING MEAL AND BREAKFAST. ALL STAFF WE MET HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY. OLD BUILDING WITH CHARM . BEDROOM AND ENSUITE MODERN , CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE

Review 92:Smell of damp in room when you first enter. I think the weapons grade shower is letting a bit of water escape past the curtain.

Review 93:Peaceful and good breakfast. Pleasant staff.

Review 94:Restaurant food tasty but a little expensive. Proximity to Paultons Park would make me consider when I would stay here again e.g. Off season. Did not realise it was next door.

Review 95:Friendly staff. Good breakfast. Accessible for New Forest and Test Valley. Lots of car parking. Comfortable quiet room.

Review 96:Tv screen too small, as so far from bed. Basin had no hot water ( bath ok), hopefully fixed if I go back!

Review 97:Nice spacious room Good staff Delicious cooked breakfast Great bar food Full sized bath (and shower)

Review 98:The bar and restaurant staff were unfriendly and unhelpful. Bedroom lamp did not work, tissues ran out after 3, cobwebs around windows, wallpaper peeling off damp walls, tie back brackets falling off,no fire plan in room. Couldn't see TV without having to look around bed frame as TV was fixed in one position. Hair dryer not near mirror and no dressing table stool.

Review 99:The breakfast was excellent and the waitress was very cheerful and helpful.

Review 100:No to in the bedroom in my suite, around four staff off duty distracting working staff and when booking out a member of staff complaining about another younger member - not professional and did not warrant the attact as the staff member was very helpful on booking in

Review 101:I like the bar and dining areas good parking

Review 102:Would have liked the hair dryer to be near a mirror. However great overall experience.

Review 103:Really spacious comfortable bedroom, and warm welcome from staff. Delicious meal in the restaurant - chose from a wide menu which catered for both gluten free and dairy free requirements. Lovely cooked breakfast. Nice bath and shower with toiletries. Easy parking. Short distance to Lyndhurst to enjoy the New Forest.

Review 104:Excellent location for our day trip to Peppa Pig World. Staff were helpful and friendly and breakfast was lovely. Room was clean and spacious and even though our room was above the pub the noise was minimum (didn't keep our 2 year old awake) and just after 11pm it was silent. Had room service that we had to order at the bar but was brought to our room promptly. Would definately stay again if we re-visit Peppa Pig World.

Review 105:Nothing to fault

Review 106:Great attentive staff , good room , fantastic breakfast . Room very cosy and warm. The pub side was great very welcoming and well stocked

Review 107:bar staff serving dining room as well as tending bar complaint about one of the courses at dinner no one got back to us and still charged on the final bill. Food not good value for money

Review 108:location good, good room rate. breakfast staff and breakfast very good

Review 109:We were in room 4 , some sort of generator on and of all night long ,just outside room window. It made it very difficult to get a good nights sleep.

Review 110:Excellent breakfast . We would stay here again, but not in room 4.

Review 111:Evening meals can be a bit on the expensive side. Main Wi-Fi was down so had to log on to an alternative which only gave 30 minutes at a time, so was a pain having to reconnect every half hour

Review 112:I have stayed at the Mortimer Arms many times over the last 10 years or so. Always good. Clean comfortable room, Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast. Good range of real ales in the bar.

Review 113:A noisy couple woke me up on my second night having an argument in the hall way, so only criticism would be to get sound proofing walls.

Review 114:The staff were very welcoming, food great and comfortable surroundings

Review 115:Receptionist just slightly officious and business like but only a mild comment. We were near the road, so another time I might request a room further away from the road.

Review 116:Easy walk to Peppa Pig world nearby. Great to have a restaurant on site which was very good, as we had our daughter and three year old child with us. Breakfast very good. Freshly cooked main course. The one waitress was particularly nice and very informative and helpful with local area points of interest. Bedrooms nicely thought out and pleasant to stay in.

Review 117:Our room was very small and overlooked the car park which could be a little noisy, especially in the morning. Also an air con unit was running on and off throughout the night keeping us awake, and our sash window did very little to prevent the noise penetrating.

Review 118:The hotel was warm and welcoming, the staff were very obliging and the food was very good. We had breakfast and an evening meal and they were both excellent.

Review 119:Loads of children in the pub because its next to Peppa Pig world

Review 120:All the food was amazing, breakfast and evening menu Good range of beers Very comfortable beds Good location for fly fishing venues

Review 121:Staff friendly & helpful, Breakfast excellent and dinner Menu very good with something for everybody. Location near the motorway but not nosiey

Review 122:Room was freezing cold on arrival and boiling hot on departure. Staff had left the windows open and thermostatic control was unpredictable. Breakfast did not start till 07:30 and I had to leave before then to travel to work, so that was not much use to me.

Review 123:Bar was quite pleasant.

Review 124:Nothing really

Review 125:Location was perfect for us, it is a comfortable, clean and friendly hotel with staff who were friendly and very accommodating. Will certainly return and recommend.

Review 126:Service was great, meals were excellent. Very friendly staff. We had a room in the courtyard, it was very quiet. Very family friendly. Next to Poultons Park & Peppa Pig World.

Review 127:This hotel is literally next door to Peppa Pig world and excitedchildren can be up and running around very early in the morning!!

Review 128:Comfortable room, friendly staff. Excellent breakfast.

Review 129:A draught from the bedroom window as they were old and in need of replacing, although this was compensated by the huge heavy thick curtains.

Review 130:The comfort of the room especially the bed. The tea making facilities and the little shower gels, shampoo, shower cap and soap provided. The breakfast was excellent and plenty of choice.

Review 131:Rooms a bit dated

Review 132:Stayed at the Mortimer and must say all the staff were excellent and very very friendly , i had to cut short my stay due to oersonal circumstance and in my rush to get home i left several shirts in the room , the staff contacted me and my items were delivered to my home within four days , greatly appreciated , oh and as for the food , one word - excellent !!

Review 133:The location was not suitable for us. We wanted a quiet, country location but this was near major roads and a motorway junction, as well as being adjacent to an industrial unit and an amusement park so nowhere to walk. The room we had was very cramped and dark. The bathroom was small, no bath and a cracked wash basin.

Review 134:The evening meal was very good and restaurant staff pleasant. Breakfast was good, if limited. Excellent shower!

Review 135:Grossly overcharged for a soft drink and beer - (J20 + Crabbies Ginger beer - £7!!!). As result, refused to order any drinks for our evening meal. Only the following morning, after complaining 3 times did the person accepting the payment of my bill for accommodation check the price, and gave me back £1.80 from the till!! - Well done that lady!

Review 136:Food was good but a bit pricey, staff for the most part excellent. Room fine.
