Reviews for Mottram Hall
Review 1:A man in the neighbouring room returned at 2am, very drunk, and started shouting obscenities down the corridor and woke us up. We felt very uncomfortable after that and slept badly. The view was of a car park and it was noisy at 8am because of a delivery truck outside. The shower head is far too low for someone of my height and it was not adjustable. The water also flooded the bathroom floor through the glass screen because it did not fit properly. I'd expect a hotel like yours to have more channels on the television and for the ironing board to not be stained.
Review 2:Breakfast offered a wide range of options and the staff were very cheerful. Ample free parking and pleasant grounds, even in the rain! Bed and pillows were comfy and the room was warm despite it being freezing outside. The various communal areas were well maintained and attractive.
Review 3:Service in the resteraunt at both Dinner & Breakfast. Entrance. Also having to walk outside to gain entry to bedroom corridor. Cleanliness of the bathroom Surprise party ruined by discussion on arrival
Review 4:Lovely building and surrounding James Rowling, Conference & Banqueting Manager was excellent at dealing with issues raised
Review 5:The pillows were awful and the room temperatures were tropical which was a shame as it lead to a restless night's sleep. It was disappointing as the rest of the stay was great!
Review 6:The Spa and fitness area were excellent and the staff couldn't be more helpful. The food at the Carrington Grill was beautiful.
Review 7:When asking to use flutes for prosecco we were given very dirty ones
Review 8:We really enjoyed our stay at Mottram Hall. The room was perfect. The bed was huge!! Breakfast was just right aswell lots of choice, even towards the end when it was soon to finish
Review 9:Great location. Booked a standard double room which was larger than expected with a huge and comfortable bed. Spa facilities include an outdoor jacuzzi and sauna for added romance.
Review 10:At a weekend the breakfast could run till 11am instead of 10am
Review 11:The staff on arrival were nice & helpful. The decor our room, bars & restaurant was lovely / calming. The bed was so comfy, I slept for 7 hours straight...I never do this! The spa area was pleasant. The food was great. I wished we were staying for more than one night!
Review 12:Absolutely nothing. All wonderful.
Review 13:We stayed at the hotel to celebrate our Ruby wedding anniversary. We had our wedding reception as did our daughter 13 years ago at this superb.venue. Again complete delighted and without doubt the hotel the hotel has surpassed our wonderful memories and is better than ever. Top marks to all.
Review 14:Reception hard to find on arrival! Lumpy/Bony Bed! Our bathroom had a rotten door and mouldy ceiling and it's general decor didn't match the bedroom. Had to ring three times to get hold of Room Service. Salt & pepper were empty when meal delivered.
Review 15:The Spa, Pool, Sauna etc were excellent! Room decor was lovely. Big bedroom. Lovely Breakfast.
Review 16:Breakfast was surprisingly dodgy - we were early and yet the cooked food seemed to have been there quite some time. Staff were very apologetic though.
Review 17:Beautiful spa, unusual range of facilities. Massages were fabulous. Restaurant excellent in the evening. Rooms comfortable and staff were, without exception, polite and friendly.
Review 18:The hotel temperature is cold especially in the cocktail lounge and dining room. Since Q Hotels took over ownership from DeVere there has been a very evident cost cutting exercise in quality and choice. Eg. Breakfast does not have the same wide selection as per our previous visit and the hotel does not stock simple things such as pineapple juice anymore??
Review 19:The service from all the staff.
Review 20:Room was a bit grotty, kettle full of lime scale, cups it clean, lighting in the room inadequate, could have done with lick of paint, shower was far too hot to stand in
Review 21:Beautiful location and swimming pool etc
Review 22:Temperature in rooms even with radiator off and window open and hotel where far too hot we where part of a wedding party everyone complained
Review 23:The decor of hotel was luxurious
Review 24:The leisure facilities were closed. It was Christmas night, but we had especially chosen a hotel with gym and swimming pool
Review 25:Interior and exterior of building and grounds
Review 26:The room was too hot! No air con Windows doesn't open properly There was no slippers in the suite The shower head was so small that impossible to use it with a hotel water pressure! The furniture were very dated!
Review 27:Cleanliness Big bed Dressing gown Kettle provided with a tea or coffee
Review 28:Lovely hotel and great staff. Paid for a premium room, couldn't really see what was premium about it.Standard room really couldn't of been any smaller, would love to see the difference between premium room and standard room.
Review 29:Food and staff brilliant.
Review 30:If you use hotels regularly this place is best avoided as aimed at wedding parties. On initial checkin nobody to direct you to your room so asked a staff member who said "that way" and ignored the fact I struggling with cases. The room had no fridge, safe, heating controls or imagination coupled with constant noise from other rooms and fire doors slamming led to being woken up at the crack of dawn. Both days went down to spa to swim unfortunately full of children with floaties and rings. Food was forgetful, breakfast closes at 10am on Sunday but so packed ended up waiting with complimentary coffee until 10.40 with checkout at 11am.
Review 31:Not a lot really
Review 32:The room was not clean, the coffee cups were not clean, had old batch of creamer, bathroom was horribly dirty so as the bath towels.
Review 33:The look of the hotel was good
Review 34:Very noisy, near to corridor, suites poorly cleaned, table top falling off, slow checkin
Review 35:Nice surrounds, looked very clean and well presented, big comfy beds
Review 36:I had a 'knee' problem and found the stairs a little difficult , so a lift would have been a little helpful .
Review 37:It was a lovely building in nice surroundings.
Review 38:There was a lot of noise in the spa & pool area from young children, avoid holiday times if you are looking for a peaceful spa break.
Review 39:Location, cleanliness
Review 40:We arrived mid week and the building was cold...Showers took a long time to get hot water. At the weekend it seems to warm up
Review 41:The Christmas decorations, location and the coziness of the entrance. Fabulous breakfast and the staff were very nice indeed
Review 42:Bar restaurant was OK and the food was fine, but felt a little over-priced for what was provided
Review 43:Comfortable rooms, nice leisure facilities. Beautiful surroundings
Review 44:The bath robes in the room were not fresh.
Review 45:The suite was lovely - especially the free standing bath. It was a little bit of luxury. We enjoyed relaxing in the spa. Dinner was lovely at the restaurant.
Review 46:I advise to check whether there are any hen parties before you book if you want any treatments in the spa. I wanted a treatment but there were no spaces, also staff not trained to do some of treatments advertised. Very disappointing. Had to ask for child bed to be made up as they got the booking wrong.
Review 47:It was a lovely hotel in a beautiful location. The facilities are good. Staff were very good. Food was very nice.
Review 48:Had to walk OUTSIDE to get elevator with a heavy case to go to your room. Reception small. Not enough persons on duty for a big event. Long queues checking out. When booking the hotel they did not acknowledge my requests nor were they very helpful in person.
Review 49:Ignored by 3 bar staff for 15 minutes despite there being only one other party in the bar. Had to approach the bar to place an order. Bill was £30 for three drinks, one of which was a Coke cola. Excessive.
Review 50:Bar food a little pricey for what it was. Drinks a bit dear. No extractor fan in bathroom. Bedroom window could open more- too warm.
Review 51:Staff were brilliant. Room was very clean and comfortable. Pool and spa fantastic.
Review 52:Very small room crowded with absurd items. The single wardrobe had no free space to put my clothes inside! The window doesn't fit well and I suffered the noise and cold air from outside. Quality of breakfast was disappointing.
Review 53:Nice old english mansion.
Review 54:No complimentary slippers or robe in standard rooms.Expensive room service
Review 55:The gardens are beautiful. Spa is lovely. Peaceful. Really nice hotel. Will be coming back next year
Review 56:The Bose speaker in the room didn't work we paided extra for a better room but it didn't seem any better I have been in nicer and bigger rooms for less price the breakfast was cold and the jug of tea seemed to be sitting there for a while that was cold and other costumers complained the breakfast reminded me abit like a premier inn, I thought the drinks were abit on the heavy side and there was a wedding going on so at about 2 in the morning it got loud and all we could here was doors slamming,
Review 57:The pool was great
Review 58:The wrong room pictures shown on the Booking.com website.
Review 59:The reception staff were fantastic. We had an issue with the pictures on Booking.com showing the wrong room to the one we had booked, but the reception staff were very courteous and although it did cause some embarrassment for me and my wife, they were very understanding.
Review 60:Very small bathroom with toilet roll holder positioned so that it was impossible to sit straight on the toilet. Difficult to get adequate ventilation in our ground floor room without leaving the window wide open, which we were reluctant to do while sleeping.
Review 61:Beautiful location and surroundings.
Review 62:kids have too much leisure time in pool.should be all morning for adults and afternoon for kids, too much young staff in restaurants no experienced staff
Review 63:gym was good.pools etc was nice.breakfast lovely
Review 64:The room was too warm with no way of altering the temp.
Review 65:Room was excellent as we're all the staff. Breakfast was advertised until 10 and hot fresh food was available until that time and at no time did u feel rushed.
Review 66:Rooms are very ordinary and all a bit drab, the restaurant is in desperate need of refurbishment, definitely not 4*
Review 67:Location and setting is really great
Review 68:Staff not very friendly. Specially at reception first point of contact they represent the hotel. What a shame. Hotel needs to adress this.
Review 69:grounds.
Review 70:The sound proofing wasn't great, as we could hear people outside and in the corridor, however, this wasn't a problem over night as everything was very quiet by 10pm.
Review 71:Given it was a really busy night with a wedding, we had a lovely stay. Good room, away from wedding party, with bed already made up for our daughter, easy check in, everything was clean / as expected, staff were friendly and helpful. We were staying on our way somewhere else and it suited us perfectly as a stopover. Benefits included full English breakfast included in price and use of the spa / swimming pool.
Review 72:Had to wait to get a seat during breakfast. Took time to fill it up. Lacks capacity during breakfast hours if the hotel has large number of guests.
Review 73:Sprawling golf course. Excellent building.
Review 74:We were given a ground floor room. The bathroom smelt like it sat on top of the sewage system. To add, being woken up at 8am on a Sunday morning to maintenance/cleaning workers is not ideal.
Review 75:Great location, prestigious, fantastic hotel. The staff are really accommodating. One member of staff provided excellent service, by booking a table at a local pub, which wasn't even on site. Brilliant.
Review 76:It's a bit pricey but then I guess you get what you pay for!
Review 77:Fantastic place, it's absolutely stunning inside and out! The leisure facilities are second to non and we spent a large portion of the day relaxing by the pool!!
Review 78:I sat at a table of ten and as can happen with a large table service was poor. The senior staff however tried hard to satisfy those affected
Review 79:The room, very good reception staff. easy parking. excellent breakfast
Review 80:Bedroom walls were thin. Bathroom was a bit small. Couldn't work the TV easily (had two controllers!!). Bit of a distance to get to room...
Review 81:Very nice spa area - pristine condition. Comfy bed etc.
Review 82:The Bar service was a shambles and cleanliness of the bar and tables was poor. The service at dinner was very poor, waited 45 minutes for a bottle of wine and over an hour for a jug of water.
Review 83:Evening meal was Ok but a personal preference is to have some type of bread with the starter and this was not part of the service so it seems, I asked for some to be given the impression that we would be purchasing the sharing platter of bread at £9, even then it didnt arrive at all. Slightly disappointing. We were in room 324. Either the women in the next room had a very piercing voice or the sound proofing between the 2 adjoining rooms is non existent. We could hear ever word of her conversation during the afternoon and worse still every word of her further discussions between 1.00 and 2.00am, which resulted in a poor nights sleep overall. It was like she was sat on our bed. Would stay again but not in this room.
Review 84:The hotel was in a super setting, staff were welcoming and friendly. handy to visit numerous villages in the area.
Review 85:NIce rooms and good cooked breakfast and choice of two bars & restaurants in beautiful grounds. Have now stayed there twice and very friendly and helpful staff each time.
Review 86:Reserved parking for staff or management in favour of quests. Noisey corporated party late at night. My daughter had to move rooms. Unable to get treatments in the Spa, not warned that these are booked up months in advance.
Review 87:Location, value for money, food, staff helpfull.
Review 88:Room to small, breakfast not good, TV channels unavailable, room nedded total repaint to cover all chips and scartches and marks. So over priced.
Review 89:Reception staff very welcoming
Review 90:There was a lot of white noise in the Cheshire Suite which made it very difficult to sleep and relax. We would like to have seen more smiles from the hotel staff.
Review 91:The room was spacious and the decor was lovely, whilst the spa facilities were good too.
Review 92:Our room didn't have a shower attachment to the mixer tap when we arrived, I had to hunt down a housekeeper to get one fitted. One of the towels had a dirty lipstick type stain on it so we had to request a clean one. When we arrived at 2pm a couple of the tables in the corridor outside one of the function rooms had dried on food which had obviously been left at least overnight. The tables still had not been cleaned when we left at 10.30am the next morning. The paintwork on the interior door frames in the public areas and corridors was chipped and tatty.
Review 93:Breakfast was excellent, I asked for boiled eggs and they were cooked to perfection, no easy feat in busy hotel.
Review 94:Misleading information on opening times of spa led us to miss a chance to go there. Food in the bar was mediocre and food at breakfast was just barely 'ok': very little choice, almost nothing 'healthy'. We asked to change our room because of noise from outside, but we were moved to a room in the left wing of the hotel, very close to some continuously loudly humming installation just next to the hotel. We didn't want to ask to be moved again. For the price this is not worth it. Perhaps if we had a chance to use the spa then I'd have rated it higher.
Review 95:Fantastic gardens. In nice weather the golf course is a brilliant place for an evening walk.
Review 96:Unable to use pool after 5 pm as my nephew was 12 ? Room not made up for three people due to booking but I had confirmation. .i had booked for 3 people room small for three people Room keys didn't work and had to be replaced then we went to collect our stuff and was unable to get back into the nearest location no luggage trolleys
Review 97:The hotel was in lovely surroundings
Review 98:Hotel is too big for its own good. The walls are paper thin, we could hear the people next door talking and later, in the early hours, we could hear their argument and every door shut etc. We were not alone, when we checked out another couple were cutting their stay short because of the noise issue. Having paid extra for a deluxe room, surprised to see door handles not on properly etc. Finally had to bounce the remote off a wall to get a response to the TV.
Review 99:Breakfast was very good and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 100:Unfortunately our room was very small and backed onto an enclosed courtyard where a generator or fan system kept me awake all night. There was very little movement of air in the room and we were uncomfortably warm.
Review 101:The location, setting & facilities are excellent.
Review 102:Receptionist needs more training. She didn't have a clue and lacked customer service. How ever she did offer us a upgrade after I made a complaint for out next visit.
Review 103:The location hotel and spa. Spa staff were excellent. This was my second visit will be going next year too.
Review 104:Room was not what we expected. Small, basic, and not very well laid out. TV was on the wall with sky box and extension leads all hanging out the bottom and just crammed behind it. Looked very messy. Bathroom was like any standard cheap hotel and didn't feel like we got much value for money. Seems you pay more for what's outside than on the inside.
Review 105:The grounds were very well maintained and looked fabulous.
Review 106:Walls between rooms do not offer a good sound barrier, can hear every word of room next door. sleepless first night due to occupants next door. Rooms are tired and need refurbishing.
Review 107:Nice surroundings, good facilities and generally friendly staff
Review 108:It would be great to have information and pictures of the history of the Hall and buildings but there seemed to be nothing on show. It's an amazing building and estate I we would have loved to learn about its history.
Review 109:Wedding guest tramping through hotel, in and out of bedrooms making lots of noise- both nights. Unable to book dinner for Saturday pm due to Wedding -
Review 110:Beautiful grounds - The Golf House meal was good staff very attentive and friendly Breakfast Team were very welcoming and helpful
Review 111:We were extremely disappointed with the condition of our room in parts. The basin in the bathroom was cracked & the heated rail was broken & hanging off the wall. In the bedroom something had been removed from the wall, with holes from fixings still evident. Not what we expected from a hotel of this rating
Review 112:Spa facilities
Review 113:Not really that child friendly - set times for children in pool "child free zones". One of the receptionists was a bit brusque when we arrived. Sofa bed v uncomfortable! It was an enjoyable stay though,
Review 114:Setting is beautiful, rooms clean
Review 115:We were misinformed about swimming times on first day so missed out on that. Had to ring for extra bed to be put up and room was at the back so noisy with early and late deliveries. Also the duvet was too heavy, thick and hot.
Review 116:The accomodation was in a lovely location and use of pool was great. Breakfast was good too.
Review 117:Room not up to expectation looked tired and bath worn, furniture scratched. Our room was not ready to check in we had to wait 45 mins the corridors looked grubby
Review 118:Lovely location and building
Review 119:I booked this room, for my son and new daughter in law, they have just married. they both said it was beautiful and comfy. they like how they could go onto patio, with the view of the lake xx
Review 120:Always felt in the way of a wedding!. First impressions like a chinese laundry with dirty trays on corridors. Our doors (264) had seen better days. Ordered paper didn't arrive. Buffet style breakfast, unexpected at the price........
Review 121:Lovely gardens. The spa looked super though we didn't get time to use it.
Review 122:Bedroom uncomfortably hot as no air conditioning so had to have window open but it was noisy as we were above some noisy units. Average buffet breakfast.
Review 123:Lovely setting
Review 124:Paper thin walls Lack of in-room safety deposit box Lack of Bidet
Review 125:Location Breakfast (automatically included) Staff Mattress (firm yet comfortable)
Review 126:I assume that as the hotel is undergoing upgrade the bathroom would be attended too at some point in the future. It was not in-keeping with the standard of the rest of the hotel. The evening meal prices should include VAT and was pricey for the area.
Review 127:Kate on receptionist was absolutely lovely, friendly and efficient. The staff were very courteous and our room was a wonderful size. The furnishings and decor create a wonderful environment and the gardens and flowerbed areas were immaculate. We enjoyed the spa facilities. There were a few minor hiccups but the staff resolved them quickly. I wish the cocktail list was more extensive. We found a fabulous pub for evening meals: The Bull's Head (turn left out of the hotel entrance and it is less than half a mile away.
Review 128:I could hear the snoring on the guest next door. I didn't think the food in the restaurant was value for money. It was very tasty, but not enough for the money.
Review 129:Staff were excellent. Very comfortable bed. Lovely pool and sport facilities.
Review 130:The bedrooms are far to small, we paid £230 per night which we thought was ridiculous. We have stayed in the Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi for the same price which was pure luxury.
Review 131:The staff was good.
Review 132:Our room was small, dark and very cold and certainly not worth the money we paid! The radiator in our room didn't work so I contacted reception to ask them to sort it out. Five hours later still no heating. Again contacted reception to be told that the heating comes on between midnight and 3am which I felt was very unsatisfactory. (The heating didn't come on between these times!). There was no offer of any other form of heating despite again saying how cold the room was! The room also had no extra bedding, pillows or bathrobes. Certain areas of hotel looked rather shabby and in need of some attention.
Review 133:Staff were all pleasant.
Review 134:Bar Prices Pillows Admin fee to upgrade to a better room Shower in a bath in a King Suite Inexperienced staff in restaurant Team leader a Q hotels customer services Breakfast manager shouldn't scold staff in front of residents Hot food at breakfast was lukewarm
Review 135:Grounds are Beautiful Decent but small Gym Tennis Court Great Golf Course Good wedding venue
Review 136:Poor signage within the hotel. Swimming pool area needed better maintenance - hand rail into pool loose on wall and jacuzzi difficult to get into as steps too deep - almost fell in ! Felt hotel rated too high. Initial bedroom bathroom had badly cracked sink and floor tile.
Review 137:The way the receptionist dealt with the cracked sink in bathroom. Upgraded our room to a junior suite. The way the grill manager headed off a problem with the slow chef. Offered complimentary coffee and apologised about the slowness of the chef. Breakfast was good and generally staff very good.
Review 138:Excellent standard in the Restaurant. Good value wines. Plenty of elbow room. Well located for travel in the area. For golfers and spar people very good. Real value for money would be a couple of days break using facilities.
Review 139:nothing
Review 140:Thank you to Katy the receptionist who went that extra mile to ensure our stay was really enjoyable. The updated leisure area was great as was the service we received in the golf house where we ate our evening meal.
Review 141:Shut bar 5 minutes before I arrived from a six hour drive (granted it was 1AM). Tried to ring room service, it just rang for five minutes unanswered.
Review 142:Comfy room, nice and clean. Tea making facilities a welcome discovery once I realized room service was not operating at 1AM.
