Reviews for YHA Brighton
Review 1:I loved the location near the seafront which was amazing for the Burning the Clocks festival. The room was great with a dual aspect sea view and loads of space.
Review 2:The room was cold because there were several switches to operate the heating and we didn't manage to work it out until we were leaving. Our fault, but the electrics in the building are interestingly arranged, to say the least
Review 3:The room was comfortable and the bathroom was new and well equipped. The staff were very friendly and the bar area is a nice extra
Review 4:Excellent location, very luxurious for a hostel... The double room I stayed in was more like being in a hotel! Super comfy bed. Very good value for money.
Review 5:Everything was great: the decor, the guys who worked in the bar were wonderful; the manager is lovely, the prices are great. The YHA team in Brighton is just fabulous.
Review 6:I honestly cannot say i didnt like anything, don't expect a kettle in your room for tea or coffee, but plenty of drinks downstairs, and plenty of seats to relax and chat.
Review 7:This hostel could not be situated in a better place, close to transport, shops and eating houses. Felt safe within the building at all times, downstairs had excellent late opening for snacks and drinks, staff very friendly and always there to help a 24/7 receiption.
Review 8:Shower head needed tightening up, leaked a bit.
Review 9:Breakfast was £6.95 but good Private double room was excellent standard, nicer than some hotels Really enjoyed my stay
Review 10:Really difficult to sort parking arrangements. Nearby parking is very expensive.
Review 11:Simple and easy access to the building, facilities and room. Good en-suite for the budget.
Review 12:The only thing I disliked was the room key-cards. Cards were very sensitive, you may need to ask for a replacement.
Review 13:Friendly and highly attentive staff was indeed very helpful. I kindly requested a room change for a dormitary due to the rude attitude of a disrespectful lady sharing same room with me within the first ten minutes of my arrival. I got very upset and was about to cry because of the customer's impolite behaviour on Christmas Eve. The ladies in the front-desk apologised on behalf of the customer and prevented a potential inconvience. They immediately changed my room and I am really pleased with my entire stay. I would like to say thanks once again from here to the receptionists for my making my time in Brighton nicer. Location wise, hotel is centrally located, easy to access everywhere you need. If you are searching a cosy, clean, central and budget friendly hotel to stay, I honestly recommend everyone to try YHA.
Review 14:The heating could have been inadequate had it been colder. The self catering kitchen is a welcome facility but the fridges overloaded and the area needs more regular maintaining.
Review 15:The staff are excellent as is the location. Our premium room was clean and comfortable.
Review 16:State of building not too good. Windows not insulated en consequently noisy. Tiles in bathroom loose as they are mounted on wooden floor. Wooden flooring noisy. Upstairs neighbors clearly audible when they walked.
Review 17:Location close to seafront, pier and Lanes. The looks of the historical building are nice
Review 18:Not a lot. Maybe a kettle and tea/coffee refreshments in the room.
Review 19:Staff were very friendly especially the late night Geordie bar man. Great location from the theatre and sea front. Very big comfy bed. Easy booking in process and well kept nice and clean
Review 20:Although a portable heater was in the room, was a bit draughty, especially round the window, and definitely so in the bathroom (brrrrr),which I avoided for this reason after I had bathed. Dont come without adressing gown if in that room! (Third floor)
Review 21:One night, for the burning of the clocks. Forgot our id but they werekind enough to let us in anyway, staff were cheery, and the bedroomdesign/decor hadnt changed a bit from my previous stay pre-YHA (whywould you change a good thing, after all?).
Review 22:Only thing we didn't like was not staying for a bit longer!!
Review 23:Great location, lovely interior, facilities fab. Bathroom as good as many hotels. Breakfast was great value and served in a good dining room. Bar was inviting, self-service kitchen was well stocked. Can't fault anything!!
Review 24:It was a little noisy at some points during the night...but we did expect it !
Review 25:Such an amazing room...exceeded our expectations for a hostel! We even had a room with a view! Lovely bed, huge room, working TV and clean, modern en suite.
Review 26:When we checked in we had to stand in a queue for nearly 15 minutes as it was so slow. When we got to our room it was freezing cold, I turned on the heater but it was blowing out cold air. It did not work. The next morning I went to get into the shower and the water was so hot it nearly burned me, it would not adjust, there was no cold just roasting hot! Very annoying as couldn't have a shower. I let the man at reception know as I checked out and he apologized but thought he could have been more understanding about it.
Review 27:Location was good, bed was comfy, shower was a nice size if I could have used it.
Review 28:There was one day trash cans were not emptied during our stay.
Review 29:Good location, friendly front desk receptionists, national express coach station is right behind the building make it easy to go from London Heathrow to Brighton
Review 30:I booked a superior room and wax disappointed. Room wasn't worth the money. On the same night the grand was only £30 more. Room was very dingy and needs money spent on it. The worst thing was no valence sheet on the bed do you could see all the stains on the bottom. Not nice...
Review 31:Staff were very helpful and attentive
Review 32:No hand towels for free
Review 33:Great value for money, nicely finished and decorated, clean, good size room and bathroom! I was very impressed for the price- will definitely come back!
Review 34:Bathroom, although clean had a bad smell and the window couldn't be opened.
Review 35:Very friendly and helpful staff and good facilities. Fantastic location.
Review 36:We arrived late night...but the room doesn't seem to be cleaned and the previous tenant's rubbish was still in the bin
Review 37:Central location. Rented the 5 person private room with an ensuite toilet. Room was spacious and generally quiet. Breakfast was basic but we're not complaining when it cost around £6 per adult and kids (below 10yrs) was £2.99
Review 38:There was a slight mix up with our request for a late check out but it was very slight and turned out fine
Review 39:I loved the room, the view, the staff were very nice and the food was lovely
Review 40:A few issues with dodgy key cards and slow draining sink, but they didn't impact our experience. Similarly, being a hostel (and full when we stayed) we could hear people moving around the corridors, but again it didn't affect our stay.
Review 41:Double rooms in a hostel are novel and very affordable. Spacious room with adequate facilities.
Review 42:Fantastic value for money, right by the pier, staff very helpful -let us check in as early as 9am as we had had a long journey which we really appreciated!
Review 43:The heating was very difficult to work and would only get to a certain temperature before blowing out cold again.
Review 44:The bathroom was lovely, much more than expected with a really good powerful shower. The amount of plug sockets was also really good.
Review 45:Would have been nice if there was tea making facalities within your bedroom & few more creature comforts like soap etc. & no plugs to have a bath.
Review 46:Everything was excellent, staff very friendly and great location.
Review 47:Needed a cup of tea in bed but no tea-making facilities in the rooms
Review 48:The bar and restaurant downstairs which was great value for money. The location, the decor, the fact that we had en suites.
Review 49:The room was immaculate and the central location was perfect for our shopping trip! The staff were very friendly and the price was fantastic for the area :) Would definitely stay here again!
Review 50:I didn't like that someone tried to get in our room during the night, they may have got the wrong room but my mate was a little worried? also we may have benefitted from a light switch in the bathroom as the fan was quite loud and didn't go off for ages. The locks on the door work absolutely fine but they don't feel convincing when you are locking them from the inside, we just felt they needed to be a little easier to lock to keep our minds at ease ?
Review 51:The staff were very welcoming and so so lovely. Our room wad really nice, we were expecting a simple necessities -only type of thing but were pleasantly surprised with how nice it was, it wad definitely value for money and we will be coming again ?
Review 52:The beautiful old hotel, luxurious even though sharing a dorm. Very helpful, friendly staff. Gorgeous budgie wallpaper and furnishings ! And incredible value for money. And helping children have trips, etc. My first stay in YHA accommodation for many years...
Review 53:Great value for money. When you read the word hostel it generates an image in you head of poor facilities.however this place is great a big thumbs up!!!
Review 54:The location, the facilities, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff, the accommodation - the whole visit was great, and we have recommended YHA to other people now
Review 55:Staff can tell more detail to customer eg latest time for breakfast and luggage storage while check in
Review 56:The single room is tidy and large with nice decoration! Amazing view outside and near the Lane- which you find load of things to eat there. Staff are helpful. It would be great if they can provide more information to me at checkin, but they are very willing to answer your questions.
Review 57:I appreciated the cheerful, helpful reception staff and the ready willingness to offer help at any time.I also enjoyed the food and the fact that staff went out of their way to serve you at any time. The overall cleanliness was impressive as was the quiet during the night
Review 58:Loved everything about it
Review 59:Really great location around from the pier and close to the lanes. Staff couldn't be nicer, they were so helpful and great people.space in room was great too
Review 60:Don't have anything negative to say about it.
Review 61:Confortable enough. Good value for money. Great location. The room's location was better than last time so I didn't hear any noise from outside.
Review 62:Freezing cold...especially the bathroom. Single glazed windows. Had a portable heater in the room as the air con unit broken, but it just made a corner of the room warm. No table or tea making in room. Same price as a hotel in other areas but cheap-ish for Brighton (£80 for one night in a double room on my own with a two year old)
Review 63:Great location. Lovely building. Good to have the self catering kitchen if needed.
Review 64:When I first booked it was for a double room which suited us as we like our own space and usually like to be back early to chill and get sleep. I booked 2 months in advance so that I would get a nice room but still ended up with a bunk room with a double that had a bunk above and the room was freezing the whole time we was there even though the heating was on high. Very dissapointed as no TV which says they provide and spent most the time under the quilt cause we was cold
Review 65:The location, breakfast and staff were brilliant but the room was dreadful and definitely not what was booked..
Review 66:It was a little noisy but nothing that ear plugs couldn't deal with. The breakfast was a bit mean.
Review 67:I liked the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful building.
Review 68:Air ventilation not so good... No hair dry offered...
Review 69:Good location--- the bus station just beside this hostel and it take less 5 minutes to Brighton pier. Lots restaurants nearby. Good reception---Quite helpful even thought I got lots questions to ask. Clean and big public areas. Washroom was big enough for girls to make up... Safety doors to access and safety luggage room. Wifi can be used at my room. Breakfast was awesome which included 7 items: smoker tomato, chicken sausage, bacon, fry eggs, hash brown, bean, ham...As well as offered lots fresh fruits and yogurt. They helped me to re-heat the milk upon my required.
Review 70:Common to all sea front in Brighton I think, all old buildings are listed, dooming them to their old single glazed windows. Although warm, it meant that late at night when the weather was dry you could hear street revellers at 3 in the morning.
Review 71:Location - right in the centre of Brighton seafront. Near to car parks, pier, ferris wheel, pavilion. Old fine building well modernised.
Review 72:Nothing.....
Review 73:First time I stayed. Central to everywhere. Staff very helpful. Breakfast was excellent value for money. Would definitely recommend this hostel.
Review 74:The room was a bit small and there was no showering soap in the bathroom. The shower door didn't fully close, but these are just minor problems.
Review 75:Great location, friendly staff, very clean.
Review 76:My room smelled of cigarette smoke but the staff were great and moved me. They couldn't apologise enough. No complaints here!
Review 77:Fantastic location, quality of rooms better than some hotels I've stayed in (private double ensuite)
Review 78:We had a taped up window as it was broken. The noise made by some people coming in late along the corridor our room was on.
Review 79:The bar, the sea view from our room, the staff were really great, the wallpaper in our room and the ensuite was lovely, there was a lift, the dining room was beautiful with high ceilings and breakfast was great!
Review 80:The people staying here were so load in inconsiderate of anyone sleeping. So loud! Heard drunk people fighting and being obnoxious all night long. I've stayed in many hostels but haven't come across one that I am such a hard time sleeping. xx
Review 81:I liked our room and the bedding was warm and comfy.
Review 82:Only issue, Breakfast staff weren't to happy to cook more food for us even though they were still serving for another hour
Review 83:The Rooms were very spacious & Clean, Staff were friendly & very helpful
Review 84:Asked staff about late check out policy and wasn't told it had to be booked the day before so when I tried to do it the morning of check out I was told it was too late
Review 85:Good,no frills hotel/hostel. You get what you pay for.
Review 86:Nothing to say about what we dislike?
Review 87:Wasn't sure of YHA as it was purely for Young people but very impressive of the room and very cleaniest and good facalities provided such as Little Bar and lovely breakfast although we are both over 60 years of ages and this is excellent place to stay, never mind the young people!
Review 88:Noisy guests, but that obviously was not the fault of the hostel.
Review 89:I wasn't expecting a lot for the moneyear paid but the location is excellent, property well kept and rooms spacious. Incredible value for money!
Review 90:Nothing!
Review 91:The friendliest, most comfortable room I've ever booked in Brighton. Stayed in a deluxe double, excellent value for money, especially due to central location.
Review 92:There isn't anything I didn't like.
Review 93:The location is excellent! The utilities as well... I guess there isn't anything I didn't like. A great place to stay if you're visiting Brighton!
Review 94:Peeling paint, damp, filthy carpet, lack of ventilation, indifferent staff never saw one smile, nasty smell probably from carpet. Draft lager undrinkable.
Review 95:Location, comfy bed
Review 96:Our only problem was we didn't realise we could of locked the cage in the luggage store. Next time we'll bring a lock for added security .
Review 97:We really liked the friendliness of the staff and the chilled vibe of the place. The decor was fabulous as was the breakfast.
Review 98:Fabulous location nearly on the sea front and only 5 minutes walk from the Brighton Pavillion. It's also ideal for anyone with a disability. The building has lifts and adjacent parking is available for anyone with a European Union Disability Badge. There is nowhere in Brighton better for me.
Review 99:Only downside to the room would be no tea and coffee facilities in theroom although there is a cafe / bar downstairs. Sound proofing maybegood around the corridors (I know it's an old building) as we couldhere children of maybe 9-10yrs shouting and screaming running up anddown the corridor and stairs.
Review 100:Amazing stay in Brighton in a youth hostel. Never stayed in a hostelbefore and it was fab! Very upto date facilities, excellent room with aview of Brighton eye and seafront. Amazing bathroom, massive with rolltop bath with view of the sea front again- very impressive! So cheap forwhat we had- felt amazing waking up every morning to a view of the sea.The room that we had was very boutique like and fancy better than anybog standard travelodge or premier inn, chain hotel etc that I havestayed at.
Review 101:The shower room, it needed a floor mat and the shower was leaking where it needs a new shower door.
Review 102:We stayed in the room for 6, the beds were awesome comfortable and we had alot of fun :)
Review 103:There was only a bath, no shower. There was no tv remote and the bed was in a strange position so you couldn't watch the tv from the bed.
Review 104:The bathroom and the view were nice
Review 105:Nothing. This hotel was FAULTLESS.
Review 106:Friendly staff, huge room with a sea front view (room 301) and luxurious En -suite bathroom. Perfect location. 10/10
Review 107:Everything was perfect! The room was huge for two people, it got all the comforts, beautiful bathroom, everything was clean. I'll definitely come back to this hotel. Never had such a nice stay in England!and the price was good
Review 108:The staff were very friendly, our room wasn't ready on time we didn't wait long tho, which we didn't mind so we got a complementary drink.
Review 109:Night club opposite, very loud music and partying going on until the 3.30am. Street clearers after that. People in the corridors shouting and laughing until the early hours.
Review 110:The communal areas were good. Location is great for the pier.
Review 111:Under our window was a bar/club with a disco out side and this went on till 12 o'clock
Review 112:The location our room we had a see view and you could see the pier and we had a bathroom which we did not think we would get
Review 113:I find some of the YHA's policies irritating and I also find it to be overpriced. When Travelodge and Premier Inn offer double rooms starting at £29, why is YHA charging £50-£100 for doubles at its Brighton hostel? The price is too high for "budget" accommodation. It is also ridiculous and annoying for YHA to charge to hire towels (£2) and take a £5 deposit on them too. If necessary this cost should be included in the room rate, rather than added on as an extra. I can understand a little better why there might be a charge to hire towels at a bunkhouse on a hiking trail (and of course YHA runs these kinds of properties), but in a city centre location like the Brighton YHA this is more like a standard hotel and so it should have standard hotel policies.
Review 114:I have mentioned in reviews before that the YHA is a great organisation, providing accommodation for all types of travellers in places where there otherwise might not be any. This particular property is in a good location and the facilities themselves are fine. This is a nice place to stay.
Review 115:There were only a couple of problems. It was noisy, but that was to be expected due to the location. There was a problem with the tile grouting on the bathroom floor and the tile edges were quite sharp and hurt my friend's foot, which we reported. I couldn't get the code to work on the left luggage room which was tucked away on an upper floor and was really difficult to access for someone like myself who has a bad back. I ended up not using it, as I had no time to sort the code issue, which was only available on the day and this meant I had to take my case to an appointment I had.
Review 116:The room and hostel were bright and airy. The kitchen was well equipped and modern. The room was large and had an en-suite, which was great for a hostel. The location was right in the centre of Brighton, which was ideal. The beds were comfortable and you could see the pier and the sea from the bedroom window, which was lovely.
Review 117:if I had to write something - parking - we parked on a pay and display and had to move it by 9.30am I think
Review 118:friendliness, food & drink - had tea and cake on arrival and dinner before going out. Decor & architecture of building are also nice
Review 119:We had one superior and one regular double but in fact regular was of a better standard than the more expensive one. No shower or even shower attachment to the the bath.
Review 120:Friendly feel about the place.
Review 121:Room key activates the lift and stops working at 10am on the dot when check out is. We were at the lift at 10am and therefore couldn't use it and had to lug a big case down the stairs from the 3rd floor.
Review 122:This is a perfect stop over, really responsible weekend rate with great breakfast. It's clean, modern and had everything we needed
Review 123:No kettle in the room or any other little things you expect to find. We overlooked that there was no parking so had to pay on top for street parking.
Review 124:Good location, easy walk into town and only a few minutes from the pier.
Review 125:Paid for a seaview room, our room wasnt seaview in my opinion and was facing scaffolding. Some electrics wasnt attached to the wall properly...
Review 126:Staff were brillant, really good service!
Review 127:Water in the shower was boiling hot and couldn't be altered.
Review 128:Nice modern hostel, right by the sea front. We had a private room so I can't judge what the dorms are like though.
Review 129:Unfortuntely, there's too much noise around the floor, lot of girls shouting, screaming etc. It was very annoying.
Review 130:Most of the points were excellent. very clean, shower is good, staff are very nice and helpful. price is cheap.
Review 131:Windows must be double glazed!! You have to put the heating on to keep the room warm! The heating is very noisy!! Breakfast wasn't great quality!! No taste! The coffe is very poor!!
Review 132:Nice and big room. Comfortable King size mattress. Good size bathroom with bath and a shower.
Review 133:We paid for a late check out and the maid disturbed us twice! Also our key card was cancelled early and I couldn't use the lift to get down from our room and I was on crutches! Didn't even get an apology from reception just an expression of one
Review 134:Location is fabulous for The Lanes and The Pier
Review 135:If I had to think of anything, breakfast was pretty basic, food wasn't very hot and could have done with better quality tea, coffee and sausages. No bedside light.
Review 136:Room and ensuite were a good size. Comfy bed. Liked the security at night with card swipe entry and 24 hour reception. Friendly staff. Central location.
Review 137:Stayed on a Friday night and the nightclub across the road was quite noisy.
Review 138:The room was huge! Lovely big bed and a view of the pier. Bathroom was also very large with a good shower. Will definitely be staying again.
