Reviews for Berties

Review 1:No heating in our room. Half a toilet roll. No coffee in the room - just tea. Light and fan in bathroom didn't work. This is a no frills place!

Review 2:Owner let us check in early morning as a room was available which was great as you can't check in until 6pm. Nice bedding. Freshly cooked breakfast

Review 3:A distinctly average, neglected, drab and dingy hotel in the Centre of Romsey. No space to move around; scruffy and cramped corridors; worn cheap furniture; tasteless breakfasts without any choice and appalling coffee. Considering the price the Cromwell Arms (which was fully booked the one night I had to stay at Berties) is miles nicer. Recommend Avoiding.

Review 4:Nothing, really, other than the convenient location.

Review 5:Personal approach, friendly, professional staff, beautiful room, the best English breakfast in my life so far, I would definitely stay again and recommend to anyone.

Review 6:Clean and comfortable. Ideal room for two adults and two older children. Central location and easy access in and out of Southampton. Side access for guests to avoid walking through the restaurant - good idea!

Review 7:Parking available but via a very very narrow driveway. Rooms and bathroom not very clean, single beds very squeaky, double bed on a slope. Only half a roll of toilet paper and had to ask for more towels.

Review 8:Located in the heart of Romsey. Breakfast was fantastic! Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 9:Breakfast was poor. We were offered Full English with the option of substitutions but this turned out to be subtractions - just one egg, half a mushroom and a lone sausage (which one morning turned up 20 minutes after the egg). Nowhere to relax outside of the rooms during the day or on Sunday as the bar and restaurant were closed. Staff were generally grumpy.

Review 10:Location was excellent. Bed was very comfortable.

Review 11:Beds were short and narrow. Room was small. Plumbing was very quirky. Too expensive.

Review 12:Rooms above the restaurant and meeting rooms. We were attending a reunion in the restaurant and it was really convenient to stay over. The restaurant was excellent.

Review 13:Parking not good. Large vehicle would have problem. Property on various levels. Older person would have difficulty. Shower in room again on different level.

Review 14:Booking in time was only during pub opening times.

Review 15:The breakfast was awesome.check out at 11am was fab. We literally needed a place to get our head down, so didnt spend much time in the hotel.

Review 16:Room faced a road and the windows aren't double glazed so there is some noise. Road isnt too busy though, just the odd juggernaut. Very creaky floor Room quite small, but fine for a place to sleep

Review 17:Nice little place Room was clean and comfortable Friendly staff Was the only person staying there that night, so I felt very pampered at breakfast being the only one. Choice of full english or just cereals, all prepared fresh. The place is very modern with a nice atmosphere - the pictures don't do it justice Serves a dual purpose as a restaurant, but there's a back door you can use to avoid the diners. Car park was quite big and away from the road. Very comfortable bed.

Review 18:We was disappointed with the room we stayed in due to the floor was all down hill everywhere and felt very much like we was on a boat. As well as that the floor was very noisy and creaked a lot. There was also a very low beam between the two bedrooms which I hit my head on. With there being a restaurant below the room there was a lot of noise from the venting system until it closed which was approximate midnight.

Review 19:No hot water one morning so shower had to be abandoned.

Review 20:Good location in the center of Romsey for bars and food and easy access to Chandlers Ford, Eastleigh and Southampton. Breakfast superb.

Review 21:Quite a lot of stairs and corridors to negotiate with luggage, an unexpected step down into the room too. Road noise at night but needed window open for ventilation. Could have done with nightstand and reading light on both sides of the bed.

Review 22:Breakfast and dinner both excellent, staff very pleasant, pretty, comfortable room.

Review 23:The room was twin bedded. One bed very uncomfortable.

Review 24:The location is very good, right in the centre of town. Rooms a good size and very clean. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good.

Review 25:Nothing.

Review 26:On our Arrival the staff were very helpful ,friendly and welcoming.and within a very short space of time we had settled into our rooms.then had the most amazing meal. Highly recommended.

Review 27:The entrance at the side is rather shabby and a bit off-putting and stairs up to the rooms need attention. The windows in the room had obviously not been cleaned for some time and the view was not great. The noise from the road was noticeable but acceptable and not much of a problem after dark.

Review 28:The staff we met, including Nicky and Louisa, were very helpful and friendly and all our requests were met with no problems at all. The room were we given (2) was clean and looked recently renovated. It was bright with a large flat screen TV and separate bathroom - although the shower attached to the bath had no pressure and was more of a dribble than anything else. Breakfast was very nice - apart from the bread which seemed to have been re-cycled! We had dinner on the 2nd night which we enjoyed. The main course (fish) was a little disappointing but starter and dessert were great.

Review 29:Minor point but, as there was no air on or fan ( allowing for the fact that it was summer), the window had to be left open which increased the traffic noise.

Review 30:Good breakfast and service

Review 31:NA

Review 32:I felt we were looked after all the way through from booking to checking out. The staff were friendly and attentive and the whole experience was pleasurable.

Review 33:A bit expensive but the town is obviously very popular and that may be what drives up the cost to stay here

Review 34:Rooms large, comfy beds, good breakfast if a little bit expensive, central location, good restaurants and bars within short walk and right on the edge of the New Forest. Free onsite parking

Review 35:Room would have been better with a shower cubicle. But that's just me.

Review 36:Right in the middle of Romsey centre. Easy access to good pubs and varied high quality restaurants. Short commute to Chandlers Ford and the M27. Very good freshly cooked breakfast.

Review 37:Went back a few days later paid £20 extra for a room than I paid last time, no wifi, tiny room, no bath, really uncomfortable bed!! NOT HAPPY!! Wont ever go there again!!

Review 38:The first room I booked there was worth the money, nice room, comfy bed, wifi good, great location.

Review 39:Unfortunately half an hour before we were due to arrive we received a phone call to say that although we had booked this room online it was no longer available as there had been a double booking.

Review 40:Easy to book ...

Review 41:The narrow approach to the private parking.

Review 42:The combination of a homely hotel, with first class dining and a truly enthusiastic staff and management. The private parking.

Review 43:Could not fault it.

Review 44:The staff were very helpful, we arrived early as we were going to a wedding. We were helped with parking & able to use our room to fix make etc. Also they put another bed in our room at the last minute to accommodate our grandson.

Review 45:Very convenient location. We last stayed here approx ten years ago. Our room was at the front...no 8 and I'm pleased to say the double glazing kept the traffic noise out. The bed was very comfortable. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was terrific.

Review 46:Maid walking unannounced while I was in bed in the morning though apologies were given it was a little bit of a shock.

Review 47:Nice and comfortable bed and great wi-fi

Review 63:Not able to check in between 2 and 6pm. Bathroom a bit tatty, suspicious marks on the floor.

Review 64:Great location, nice breakfast and staff very helpful.

Review 65:Friendly man in charge and staff

Review 66:Just that there was no plug in bathroom basin. Should have mentioned it onleaving but forgot

Review 67:Staff lovely and helpful

Review 68:The beds

Review 69:Not a lot

Review 70:Hairs left in sink

Review 71:Location and the size of the family room. Room was fairly clean.

Review 72:lovely staff, great hotel, perfect location

Review 73:Convenient location, reasonably priced and very helpful staff.

Review 74:Shower but a bit grubby but really no complains

Review 75:The staff were very helpful and pleasant to talk too. Very accommodating.

Review 76:The shower/toilet room would benefit from a little updating

Review 77:The staff were welcoming and helpful

Review 78:Room I had was tiny. Very small bathroom. In general very basic quality for the price.

Review 79:Food at the restaurant was good. friendly staff.

Review 80:Orange juice was on the turn. showerhead was to low and didn't have enough adjustment. Had to stand very close to the taps to shower.

Review 81:Closed during the Afternoon until 6pm. Shower room needed a good clean. Wi-Fi - poor. Not good value for money.

Review 82:Excellent breakfast Good location

Review 83:Great staff, very friendly and helpful Position in centre of Romsey was perfect

Review 84:Room showing signs of age. Cramped hall with steep steps in need of revamp. Looking a little tired.

Review 85:Nothing too important. The sink in the bathroom was too small. Also, my kettle did not automatically switch off when it boiled!

Review 86:Very good location in the centre of town. The use of the side door at all hours was a good touch. The room was fine with a comfortable bed and good shower.

Review 87:It would be helpful to make clear on the web site this is really a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel. On that basis it is just fine but was a bit unexpected.

Review 88:Very helpful, friendly staff. Interesting menu.

Review 89:Our room was very quiet and comfortable, the only downside was they weren't serving breakfast, on New Year's Day but did let us checkout later.

Review 90:2nd Visit - tiny room from 1st visit/shower only/inferior dble bed/needed refurbishment/ though charged the same price as 1st visit. Moved around at dinner time...to accommodate a party of people ready to dance. We won't stay again

Review 91:Breakfast

Review 92:There was nothing I didn't like.

Review 93:Great location in Romsey. Short walk from station and in the heart of the town. Charming small hotel above a lovely restaurant. Great breakfast. Very clean and smart rooms. Great staff - helpful and welcoming.

Review 94:Hotel was overbooked - for the first night half of our group had to go to a much lower quality accommodation and hotel tried to charge full rate. Beds were not good, rooms extremely small

Review 95:Location, staff were friendly, cooked breakfast was good. Also in-house restaurant was good, but a bit pricey

Review 96:Not that they can help it...but the turn into the parking area is very narrow and needs good deal of care turning in. Their bin men also come very early to collect the glass bins.

Review 97:Service was excellent, staff friendly and happy to help. Rooms were clean and very light & airy. Breakfast was lovely & fresh.

Review 98:Bedroom extremely cramped,no net at window so we were visible from the top deck of the freqently passing buses & the bathroom was disgustingly filthy.

Review 99:Room basic eg only 1 bedside light and no chairs in twin bed room and ventilation a problem - one small window opened direct onto roof gully allowing access for wildlife if left open.

Review 100:Food and restaurant service first class. Central position. Parking available

Review 101:Bathroom was very small a bit tatty and shower leaked

Review 102:Excellent Breakfast and Dinner Menu looked exciting although we didn't eat hear as we were seeing friends locally

Review 103:Narrow entrance to car park at rear. Bird droppings of a particularly noxious type have damaged my car's paintwork and will be a costly repair.

Review 104:Food was excellent, as was the service. Central location in Romsey is good.

Review 105:The room was terrible, right above the kitchen so I could hear all dishes being washed and laughing until 11pm. Bathroom in poor repair without curtains to the car park (noisy as well). Really poor construction for that price.

Review 106:Restaurant downstairs, food was great, pricey but worth it and great wine.

Review 107:Breakfast was only served from 9-10 so had to miss it one morning and itwasn't the best selection. Room was nice and comfortable but soap& shower gel removed after first night and not replaced and plugsnot in the best place for hairdryers.

Review 108:Food was nice in the restaurant; relaxed atmosphere and friendly - veryaccomodating as we arrived late.
