Reviews for Amsterdam Hotel

Review 1:The hot water wasn't very hot, second time we told reception we were told the boiler had not come in,however even after that it didn't get very hot,the real issue we had was that the water pressure for the shower was really poor,it needs a booster pump on the system or a power shower. (room 41)

Review 2:Friendly check in,had an issue with hot water and both receptionists looked into the issue straight away. Our room was clean with comfortable furnishings, not cramped, proper double bed not a midget ! modern bathroom. Hotel has a Bar which looks out onto the sea front, looked nice but didn't try it ! Late entry to Hotel with room card rather than night porter.

Review 3:I love the staff in the reception and in the breakfast! I am dairy allergic and they went to buy soya milk just for me. I really appreciate it. They are kinder and smiling all the time. I could give them 11 :). The room was amazing like always. Second time I stated and I would repeat for sure.

Review 4:Very basic room for the price shower trickled out and could have included full English breakfast continental very out dated

Review 5:I thought the hotel was clean and warm staff very helpful and friendly

Review 6:Breakfast was 8-10am - arrived at 9.52 to be told that breakfast would be cleared away in 8 minutes. Incredible Broken boiler meant no hot water to shower in - promises were 20 minutes then an hour but neither materialised. Both of us had cold showers. Water pressure in shower was barely more than a dribble Double bed base (wooden) meant you kept cracking your shins on bed as there was barely 30 cm from edge of bed to walls to walk around bed.

Review 7:The reception staff were amazing very helpful new the guest that where in the hotel amazing we booked only 1 hour before arriving was amazing service

Review 8:Showers leak into the bedroom a little bit nothing bad to report will definitely return.

Review 9:The receptionist Harry I believe he was called, was the friendliest most welcoming reception at a hotel I have ever received, a real credit to the hotel.

Review 10:Welcome and friendliness of all, in particular the gentleman on the reception desk. Nothing was too much trouble. Expected noise from bar and disco on the Saturday night, but nothing.

Review 11:A fridge would be nice to add to the room.

Review 12:Location and nice clean room, we had a walk in shower. Next door bar had some noise late at night and did not bother us but would a light sleeper.

Review 13:Have no negative feedback

Review 14:Myself and my partner have stayed at the Amsterdam many times and love the situation,,the comfortable rooms , cleanliness and very friendly staff

Review 15:The only bad thing is the street parking.

Review 16:The hotel is very nice, the location is perfect, you can see the sea from the window, it is very close to all the clubs in the town...

Review 17:We didn't have and bad experiences.

Review 18:We had a very enjoyable stay. The staff in the bar were particularly helpful and made our stay fun. Very accommodating of our dogs, really good in this respect.

Review 19:Shower alcove and floor was disgusting and less than hygienic with leaking drain and mould on walls

Review 20:Great location and staff were extremely helpful Breakfast was good

Review 21:The room did not have a smoking area I.e balcony meaning we would have to go downstairs and outside the hotel to smoke. The room was extremely hot and stuffy in the morning when we woke up. The toilet seat in the room was also very lose.

Review 22:Location and views from room were great. Staff we're friendly.

Review 23:took us but 5-10 mins to find a carpark space but found one 2 roads down

Review 24:Stuff was so friendly, helpful and did make us laugh! Would stay here again for sure

Review 25:Although I never had a breakfast, the breakfast offered was only continental. You had to pay for a cooked breakfast. However it's a very very minor observation!

Review 26:Friendly staff, lovely room

Review 27:Loved the room , the balcony , Brigton bathed in sunshine, and the staff were lovely, I thought "a happy hotel"' loved our stay and coming back x

Review 28:Full English breakfast not included in the price (extra £7:50) instead it was continental breakfast

Review 29:Room over looking the sea and Brighton pier was great and had a decent sized balcony, room and on suite very nice, friendly and helpful night staff, myself and my girlfriend enjoyed our stay. Would recommend to others

Review 30:The bathroom facilities could be a little nicer and i think for the price breakfast could be a lot nicer and open for longer. I think it was a little overpriced, £160 for one night.

Review 31:Location of the hotel is amazing, right on the piers doorstep. The hotel's staff were lovely and extremely friendly at all times.

Review 32:The parking was absolutly diabolicle, spent 11/2 hours trying to find somewhere by the hotel to park, gave up,parked about 2 miles away and got a cab back to the hotel.

Review 33:Staff were very helpful and polite, hotel and room were nice and clean.

Review 34:It was a lie that it was a b and b rate- cooked breakfast was £10 extra, and not available until 8.00, which is hopeless for people working. Also, it was advertised with wifi, which we needed- and it was less than useless, very weak, or non exitent signal.

Review 35:Great location, staff and showers.

Review 36:There is a club next door which blasted its music till 3:30am and people smoking outside said club making noise on the saturday night. otherwise was great...

Review 37:Friendly staff, great location right by the pier.

Review 38:Room was small.

Review 39:Me and my partner came here for a quick weekend away and the location is perfect ! Hotel is lovely and most of the staff were very professional and welcoming. Our room was a little small for what we paid but I guess we were paying for the location. Would definitely stay here again and would reccomend to friends :)

Review 40:My duvet was torn at the top and bottom revealing a very worn duvet. Room on small side meant we kept hitting our knee on the pointed corners of the beds.

Review 41:Location very good, staff very friendly and helpful, nice décor. Bedrooms a bit on the small size, wet room no bath, which was fine. A very pleasant hotel at a good price. Breakfast very good continental.

Review 42:Room was stuffy. We kept tripping up step into bathroom and the windows looked like they hadn't been cleaned in years!

Review 43:Staff were very friendly. In walking distance to seafront and centre. Perfect location.

Review 44:The big window in the bathroom-always have to have the curtain down. Pretty manageable though.

Review 45:Stayed a few times, views are great, 2 minute walk from the beach and pier. Staff are always very friendly.

Review 46:Parking was a little difficult but it always is in Brighton wherever weve stayed. This is no reflection on the hotel.

Review 47:Recently refinished throughout, everything looks fresh and clean. By coincidence we bumped into the owners at a restaurant in the town and they were charming, friendly and helpful beyond expectations. Highly recommended.

Review 48:The room was really stuffy, because of the location it was not possible to open the windows because of the noise. A fan in the room would have helped. Also the glass doors were excellent for light but it meant that if you were changing or having a snooze on the bed you had to shut the blinds. Some sort of curtain or shutter across the window half way would be useful.

Review 49:Great location, the room was nice

Review 50:Very friendly staff! Perfect view from room! Although I would usually prefer full English breakfast, the continental was varied and lovely. Thank you Amsterdam we loved our stay and will return!

Review 51:The staff were so helpful and welcoming. If you want a quiet location, this isn't the place for you if you want the window openat night. I loved it, a minutes walk to the Pier. The room was well decorated and equipped. Great value for money and I will definitely go back.

Review 52:The loud karaoke in the bar below our room although it only went on till about 11pm. Had we not been so tired , we may have gone down and joined in so great if you like that sort of thing. I think that a full English breakfast could have been an option ( without extra cost) The continental breakfast was excellent however.

Review 53:Position of this hotel is great- right on seafront. Beware there is no private parking so park in a side street and nip into hotel where they will sell you a 24 hour permit for £7.50. It is really well located for the Pavilion, wheel, pier and the Lanes with it's shops and restaurants and pubs.

Review 54:Room the size of closet, looking out on to a roof with air conditioning vents and pumps. Shower drained very slowly. Very expensive for what it was.

Review 55:Friendly staff, good location on the seafront.

Review 56:The duvet was far too warm so could have done with a sheet as well. The window was rather stiff so struggled to open it for air

Review 57:The sea view room we had (number 22) certainly had a lovely view.

Review 58:Unfortunately, there is a very noisy nightclub next door so weekend (Thurs, Fri and Sat) nights were all very noisy until the early hours of the morning (3am or so-ish), hence very disturbed sleep! Ok if you like to party at that time yourself (but we don't!)!

Review 59:The staff were very friendly, very approachable and helpful. The hotel location was good with a lovely view of the sea. Parking permits were available for purchase (parking in Brighton would be extremely expensive and hard to find without this option.

Review 60:I was in a single room. Toilet is quite cramped, sited right against the basin. Knees do not fit in! Continental breakfast only; cooked breakfast costs extra.

Review 61:Very friendly and helpful staff

Review 62:Tiny room with two beds jammed in, couldn't find space to put a suitcase never mind walk about, it was hot and stifling as window didn't open. View was disgusting, noise from extractors below horrendous , breakfast was poor. Don't go there!!!

Review 63:Leaving was the highlight

Review 64:Parking not available just a permit so you can park in the area you need to find your own parking . No full English breakfast unless you order which no one told us until we asked about a full English breakfast. Went to a cafe which was nicer than hotell

Review 65:Greeting from staff

Review 66:It's hard to find the hotel by road but that is the fault of Brighton's one way system.

Review 67:We only stayed one night and were leaving very early the next morning. The reception staff saved us money on parking as we didn't need a 24 hour permit and the night porter ran around sorting out breakfast for us.

Review 68:thought the cleaners could of done a better job at things like restocking drinking supplies, clean towels etc. and just a general better service of the room

Review 69:the man who worked at the front desk was very helpful

Review 70:There wasn't anything we didn't like

Review 71:The staff were a+ made you feel welcome staying an extra night was no problem the bar was nice good atmosphere a nice end to mine and husbands week away would stay again

Review 72:The Continental breakfast was good but the only bad thing I have to say is that the full English should be free.

Review 73:The Amsterdam was very good value for money and the staff were excellent and very friendly. 100% staying again.

Review 74:The hotel was not easy to find and the reception area and entrance was very disappointing and poor. The location of the rooms were not very easy to find with lots of up and down stairs . Car parking was a nightmare as they don't have their own Carpark and you have to wander the streets looking for a spot!

Review 75:The staff were very helpful and the location was pretty central. The continental breakfast was excellent and well presented.

Review 76:Very small shabby room (seemed much smaller than 15m2). You can hear everything happening in other rooms. Shower it's just a hole in the floor, so when you shower the floor and the toilet all get wet.

Review 77:Great location by the sea, within walking distance to the royal pavilion. Very friendly staff. Continental breakfast was good.

Review 78:Good value for money and perfect location. Busy side road with late night revellers passing and they did wake me a few times . There was music from the bar playing late but to be honest I was so tired and the bed so comfortable I soon fell asleep .

Review 79:I've stayed in many hotels and this one had one of the most comfortable beds . Staff friendly and helpful . Continental breakfast was good . I liked everything about my stay . I shall definitely stay again .

Review 80:Told breakfast included but this was only a continental breakfast with limited choice. Fabulous balcony with room but right above the bar with very loud music until early hours. Would have been nice to have been warned about building works next door constant drilling from 7.30 am all weekend

Review 81:Location right opposite the pier and short walk from station.

Review 82:Nothing major but the TV didn't work as couldn't get a signal for some reason and the lights in the bathroom were on a sensor and kept turning themselves off whilst I was in there. Room 25.

Review 83:The Amsterdam is a lovely hotel, the room we stayed in was clean and fairly modern. Very comfortable bed as well, clean sheets which were changed whilst there for only 2 nights.

Review 84:Asked for a quiet room but had street noise all night long. Towels too small.

Review 85:Service and staff cheerful, efficient and fun. Central location on sea side.

Review 86:The finishes in the room needed a bit of work; cables badly 'hidden' by a small painting; dirty windows. Two more pillows on the bed would have been great.

Review 87:Perfect location with parking outside, if early. Friendly staff and great continental breakfast with a brilliant view.

Review 88:We got a parking ticket due to not filling out the car park permit correctly! Double check with the hotel that you have filled the permit out correctly before displaying it, that's a must!!!!

Review 89:Location, room, breakfast & fabulous friendly staff!!!

Review 90:Our room (27) was very hot however staff resolved this promptly & courteously. Room was a little small for a double and bed, although very comfortable, on the small side. Storage space limited, shelving inside the wardrobe is needed.

Review 91:All of the staff were extremely pleasant, helpful & friendly. Nothing was too much trouble & they couldn't do enough to ensure an enjoyable stay. Hotel very clean & comfortable, rooms and all public areas were well maintained and had been very recently redecorated. Location perfect for most of what Brighton is famed for. Will make this our hotel of choice next time we're in Brighton but will opt for a larger room. Liam (bar staff) deserves a special mention - in addition to being very cute he has an admirable 'can do' manner and is very polite & pleasant even when he's exceeding busy.

Review 92:The bed was so uncomfortable, but maybe that's because I've got a bad back anyway

Review 93:The staff were brilliant, can't say a bad word about them. Location was perfect

Review 94:The rooms did not worth the amount paid for. I took my partner on our anniversary and asked the hotel beforehand to prepare something nice but went I got there they didn't even acknowledge my request. We were given a double room with twin separate beds. I had to pay extra £80 pounds to have a different room which were smaller and sold as single rooms (as advised by the staff) juts to be together. Made me feel like a begger! Parking was advertised but what it was to find a place on the street and the will sell a parking permit for a day. No very clear on the website. The isolation was not good and you could hear every noise from the stairs, the street and the bar downstairs!

Review 95:Location

Review 96:The room was spotless, loads of space, tastefully decorated with all the amenities you could ask for. The bed was very comfy, and the staff were simply wonderful.

Review 97:The music from the bar below kept us up! Complained to the manager in the morning and he was exceptionally rude, sarcastic, even patronising. Didn't offer us anything for the complaints we made, appalling customer service. "You've already paid, so I'm not going to give you any money back".

Review 98:Nothing we didn't like, room was a little small but not a problem for us as only there for 2 nights

Review 99:Friendly, polite and helpful staff, clean well equipped room and location

Review 100:Had to open the window as the room was a little too hot, maybe not a bad thing in the middle of winter.

Review 101:What lovely guys run this hotel. Very friendly and helpfu. Breakfast a real continental treat.

Review 102:Little bit noisy on a Saturday but it is Brighton and I can sleep well almost anywhere. Breakfast and niceties not great given the price paid per room.

Review 103:Great views over the pier and big wheel. Central for popping over to the lanes or up into Kemptown.

Review 104:We paid close to £200 a night for a regular twin room and parking. The hotel is in a nice location but that doesn't justify this price. The rooms were average, the hotel needs renovation and the breakfast is below average. If you're desperate to stay right next to the beach (you probably can't see the sea unless you pay for an upgrade) then it's great. If you're looking for value for money then I wouldn't recommend it. For £200 a night I would be expecting much, much more.

Review 105:Friendly staff and it's on the beach.

Review 106:Shower floor moved and had mould. There was dust on ledges in the bathroom. Windows and window ledges were filthy. Furnature is a little in need of maintenance as side table kept falling over!

Review 107:Friendly staff and location!

Review 108:when i complained about constant drilling - i was told this was coming from next door but they would only be doing it between 10am-4pm and i was not here to stay in the room but to enjoy myself! management were aware this would be happening but nothing was mentioned at the time of booking or during checkin.

Review 109:leaving!

Review 110:Being "central" it is in close proximity to night clubs and while loud music must be expected into the night, on one occasion it went on up to 2 am. Double glazing (rather than the secondary glazing) would help alleviate this.

Review 111:Very comfortable room and hotel with excellent breakfast and attentive (but not overly obtrusive) staff.

Review 112:Problem with offloading. With only one lane open due to Residential Parking anything but a very short stop immediately holds up the traffic. My wife is wheelchair bound so this was difficult.

Review 113:Warm and comfortable Great wet room and everything was clean. Nothing to grumble about. Everything worked as it should except for the very restricted channel of TV - only 9 channels.

Review 114:Was disappointed the kitchen was closed at 5pm. I returned about 8.20pm from a very intensive course just wanted to order food and eat in my room - but it was closed - had to go out and get a takeaway - but staff very helpful in this Internet was rubbish did not work at all so while its free - it also doesn't work :(

Review 115:Booked it the day before I went paid 38 pounds - incl breakfast. I rang a couple of times while trying to work out what I'd do re parking Patrick on the phone was really great, patient and helpful. Really close to the beach/seafront, and 10 mins from where my course was held. I arrived at 7.40am and they let me book in, the room I was meant to have was not ready so they gave me another - I paid for single I got a double! I was able to go to the room leave my bag and even had a brew prior to my course starting. I left a special request for a quiet room as I needed to sleep - I got one, very quiet super comfy bed too. They sorted out my car parking for the 2 days I needed it. They let me have parking for the 2nd day even though I booked out in the morning. In the evening when I returned staff very friendly and super helpful Following morning breakfast was FANTASTIC and again staff were excellent. It was all absolutely brill with absolutely no fuss Loved the fact that they support a work in India too, lots of their furniture comes form India - they support carpenters there - was pretty impressive! Very highly recommended

Review 116:The staff's attitude - or complete lack of. The extremely small room. Overall the hotel is a classic old english building, with the standard mold smell and the completely nonsensical staircases. The room was extremely tiny and it is really not worth sleeping in for more than one day, and that only if you really need to. Look elsewhere till they refurbish it.

Review 117:Not much, apart from the fact that there was a bed to sleep and the bathroom was fairly clean.

Review 118:double room was very small. Common areas look a bit old and out of date, could be refurbished to bring them in line with the rooms which are much more modern. the TV was tiny and not easily watchable!

Review 119:Friendly service, excellent "wet-room" style shower, comfortable, warm, clean, great location

Review 120:Very small room Very noisy from traffic (our friends room had secondary double glazing and was much quieter)

Review 121:Location - easy walk to town centre Comfy bed View - pier to the right, wheel to the left Staff - friendly and helpful

Review 122:NO negatives unless you want to count the November weather

Review 123:Great location in the centre of where I wanted to be, very friendly and helpful staff, room very comfy and slept well (TOO WELL) maybe in a very comfy bed

Review 124:There wer no drawers in our room to put underwear etc.

Review 125:The room was small & very hot but we turned the radiator off n it was fine then. Everywhere in the hotel was spotless. The staff wer very friendly & helpful. close to the city centre. Beach and pier. We couldn't ask for a better location. I would stay at this hotel again

Review 126:No bath, just a shower. Not a disaster though!

Review 127:This is an old building but the interior and exterior have had investment and there is a nice modern but sympathetic approach to the appearance. Very clean throughout.

Review 128:i had one of the back rooms no view i didnt care went out and saw all i wanted the hotel mid week fairly quiet which was nice all staff from the desk to the cleaner were lovely location super near everything so you can pub club do the pier the pavilion or relax in the hotel bar and enjoy the nightly entertainment best of all worlds

Review 129:Parking in the area! Best not to take the car. very noisy at the weekend but it is on the front and it is Brighton!

Review 130:Super friendly staff, very comfortable, nice rooms and great continental breakfast.

Review 131:1) Breakfast that is included is continental one (I prefer hot food) 2) The room is tiny with one small window only 3) Shower space is not separated from the toilet, so plenty of water splashes. Besides, the shower is fixed on the ceiling, so you hair will be wet even if you don't want them to. 4) Parking is in the adjacent streets only (for extra 7,50 GBP).

Review 132:1) Very close to the sea front and Brighton Pier 2) Clean room 3) Free wi-fi 4) Friendly and helpful staff 5) Pets are welcome at no additional charge 6) Tea/ coffee making facilities

Review 133:No cooked breakfast TV was very small dirty towels room was cold decorated was very poor no spa no in room masage like was Stated on web site bed was not queens size like was Stated online room was small

Review 134:Was a nice welcome Tea and coffee and good sea view

Review 135:the weather

Review 136:The customer service was excellent. Everything we needed was within walking distance. we felt very relaxed in the hotel as the staff were very friendly and ready to help in any way they could. The food was tasty and not expensive.

Review 137:Room was dirty, tv not facing bed, horrid view of other houses, the fact that the nightlife at hotel was very poor. 150 pound for 2 is ridiculously overpriced. Won't be visiting again.

Review 138:Good shower

Review 139:Shower wasn't particularly powerful.

Review 140:the staff were extremely helpful and accommodating. I was very impressed with the breakfast on offer in the morning and the room was really clean and comfortable. Plus its practically opposite the pier!
