Reviews for Silks Hotels - The White Horse

Review 1:Breakfast. Orange juice was very watery cordial .No proper fruit salad ( as usual) just a few pieces of poor looking whole fruit .Almost no attention from waitress.( I have been a number of times before and have always had a nice experience .VERY DISAPPOINTED.)

Review 2:Comfortable ,warm and quiet. I only need to have a good night's sleep as I visit my sister in the nursing home VERY near to this hotel..

Review 3:This is a delightful small hotel wth a very long history . It is central to the town and within walking distance of the station which is the msin transport entry to Romsey.

Review 4:Room 101 is directly above a function room with a delicate Tudor ceiling. You can almost hear what people are saying beneath you. Then if you want the windows open you hear the clock chiming beautifully 4 times per hour all night. Noisy !

Review 5:Pet-friendly. Comfortable, bright room & bathroom. Delicious dinner. Friendly, obliging staff.

Review 6:no bad experience at all , the only thing is would have liked breakfast to be included in the fee as was quite expensive.

Review 7:clean, comfortable, brilliant location for all local shops etc.. staff lovely, would def recommend.

Review 8:Mix up over room, reception said I had specified loft room, which I had not as I have difficulty on stairs, room on 1st floor given ,but no reduction in price.

Review 9:Location very central . Staff attentive

Review 10:The single room was a little 'snug' but that having been said the ensuite shower room was a good size. Parking could an issue, I was lucky arriving early Saturday evening there was a space outside and no parking restriction on the Sunday.

Review 11:Excellent friendly helpful staff. The courtyard area was a tranquil, comfortable place to enjoy a drink and a bite to eat.

Review 12:See above - and staff became very unfriendly after I complained aboutroom - I could actually write my name in dust!!

Review 13:Room was not clean bed and pillows uncomfortable small pokey room notwhat I expected from a 5☆ hotel or my expectations too high stayed infar far nicer hotels and b & B's at half the price verydisappointed - noisy

Review 14:An excellent weekend away for us. Had a couple of very good meals in hotel. Without exception the staff were very friendly and helpful. Would certainly visit the hotel again.

Review 15:Shower cubicle had nowhere to place anything like soap etc. No toast or fruit juice provided at Breakfast. Bar staff somewhat lethargic. Room ventilation could be improved

Review 16:Location

Review 17:I was one of only a very few people to breakfast in the hotel. You may want to consider your pricing. I chose the continental for that reason. Look at the breakfast prices on offer in the town, that is where people are going and eating out.

Review 18:My room was very comfortable and clean after the dust was swept from under the TV table on my 3rd day of my stay. Shower was very good.

Review 19:The duvet - far too hot for a heatwave. Lack of parking.

Review 20:The staff - very helpful, booking me taxis etc. The location - centre of Romsey, which has some interesting shops. Querky nature of building.

Review 21:-no car park nearby -no air-conditioning or fans provided in very hot weather. Room was very stuffy and hot -Wi-Fi was poor and intermittent and when working, very slow

Review 22:close to town

Review 23:Getting our cooked breakfast took a bit longer than we would have liked

Review 24:All the staff was helpful and polite in a very friendly way and made us feel very welcome

Review 25:The room we had was very nice, but overpriced even at the discounted rate of £105, particularly as breakfast was an additional £29 for a couple. No dedicated parking may cause difficulties for some.

Review 26:Overall the hotel and staff are very pleasant. Bar area very comfortable. Free Wi-Fi great.

Review 27:As I said earlier wish the breakfast would be included in overnight price especially for weekend stays .

Review 28:Staff excellent and helpful , food was lovely and room perfect very relaxing stay .

Review 29:The room was very very small and unconfortable because if this. Besides, when I booked I asked for an extra-bed for my little daughter and when we got there there was no extra- bed in it. They should have put us in a better room. The hotel price was expensive considering what they offer. I wouldn't go back not even recommend it.

Review 30:Restaurant was good

Review 31:Visitors need to be made aware (because the hotel certainly isn't doing this) that they currently have a major refurbishment of the stables block going on. You WILL be woken early by drilling, workmen talking, etc. I was shocked that the first I heard of this was an (unclear) letter left in our room on arrival. Ironically the hotel is advertising a "sleepy Sundays" promotion on its website with a late checkout on Monday. You won't find much "sleepy" about it. Despite having asked for a double bed for our relaxing weekend away we were given two single beds squeezed together. We soon had to change rooms because the shower door fell off into the shower, narrowly missing serious injury to my partner (I advise if you book this hotel then you should ask for a room where the shower door hasn't fallen on anyone lately). Our new room had uncontrollable heating so we had a sweltering night in March. The front desk advised the solution was to use the noisy air con. So, waste more energy to combat the heating being on full blast (and stick your fingers in your ears to sleep). The pipes also caused a racket at 1 am. I was given to understand this is an ongoing problem. I haven't even mentioned the fire alarm going off at random (again, there was a suggestion this is a common problem), the intermittent wifi, the condescending attitude of the woman on the front desk who told me she couldn't knock anything off the 4* bill for 1* service because I had booked through booking.com who are a third party (despite booking.com's conditions stating that the contract is between me and the hotel), the fact we asked to see the manager twice and he was either "busy" or "not in". This is potentially a great hotel. But I feel it has got an arrogance about it due to its history and place in the town. I would not even consider going back.

Review 32:Romsey is a lovely place to visit and its people were very friendly. The White Horse is in a very central location from which to explore.

Review 33:Construction works next door. Food quality was fabulous but I would have liked something basic and simple while on business.

Review 34:Character, warmth of open fire, flexibility of staff to allow me to work after I booked out. Food quality first rate.

Review 35:The car parking not to clever but nothing else really.

Review 36:We enjoyed our stay at the White horse in Romsey. It was very clean. Staff where polite and helpful. Definitely would visit again. But the price is a bit steep to visit regular. Bev and Alan from Retford .

Review 37:Stayed in room with mezzanine bedroom- very hot at night with no ventillation up there. Aircon fan noisy and tended to switch off despite changing the timings on controls. Electrical fault in the night tripped the fire alarms at 3 a.m. With electricity off and alarm sounding was difficult to get down from mezzanine on slippery wooden stairs with no light at all. Potentially dangerous. Playing "Nessun Dorma" (None shall sleep) from Turandot over breakfast was either poor taste or an unfortunate co-incidence. No compensation offered.

Review 38:The general welcome. The restaurant food and waiting staff excellent. Free WiFi. Good position in Romsey. Local car park handy and free on Saturday evening and Sunday (though not so the rest of the week).

Review 39:Fire alarm going off at 3am due to a power cut, then going off again at 7.30am due to another technical reason. Then, when checking out the next morning, the staff did not explain why or volunteer an apology until prompted by me about the fire alarm. These things happen, but please be open and honest with the guests. The night porter (Ernesto?) was excellent

Review 40:Fantastic old world feel in a lovely location in a beautiful town

Review 41:For the money, I expected a larger room with a better view than over the roof tops at the rear. Parking would have been welcome but the hotel is smack in the centre of the town. Bistro staff generally good but wine waiter a bit offhand.

Review 42:Quirky old coaching in well modernised and updated. The receptionist was welcoming, efficient and generally excellent, the room was clean and the en suite well fitted with good water pressure. The Bistro food was excellent and they served late until 10pm, particularly welcome as we had a travelled a considerable distance and didn't arrive until late.

Review 43:The receptionist when we first arrived. She could really improve her manner!

Review 44:The staff, on the whole, we're very helpful and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean.

Review 45:The naming rather than numbering of the rooms. The breakfast.

Review 46:Its situation within the town; the historical nature of the hotel which has been well preserved; the ambience of the restaurant - although one main course was misleadingly described on the menu.

Review 47:Casual almost rude staff. Tiny room with only a small gap between the bottom of the bed and the wall. Noisy position overlooking a drinking/smoking area kept me awake until 2am. Dusty bedside table, the bin in the room not emptied daily, flannel and shower gels not replenished. A hole in the plaster on one wall. Cleaners left the radio playing in my room. Expected better for £120 a night.

Review 48:Comfy bed, nice Bathroom.

Review 49:Unfortunately our stay was tarnished by the fact that a rather noisy function was taking place directly below our room - something we were not advised of when we checked in - we couldn't get to bed until midnight when the function drew to a close...

Review 50:Location is perfect for enjoying the market town of Romsey. Lovely rooms and good service

Review 51:Bathroom was cold. Some broken fittings (eg extractor fan)

Review 52:Friendly staff both reception and bar and food

Review 53:N/a

Review 54:Stunning venue

Review 55:Car park some distance away but you don't pay in public car park between 1600 and 0830

Review 56:Convenient location

Review 57:Great staff. Very welcoming and attentive. Lovely building and very clean.

Review 58:No car park. no handrail in the shower

Review 59:Friendliness of staff

Review 60:Nice feel to the place, very traditional would definately stay again if ever revisiting.

Review 61:the friendly receptionists

Review 62:Well equipped room with good tea/coffee making facilities.

Review 63:Comfortable rooms, very clean

Review 64:Thought it was expensive for the room we had and don't see why there should be a charge for a pet.

Review 65:Staff all very friendly, food was excellent and fair priced!

Review 66:Tricky finding somewhere near to park - had to carry suitcase a fair distance.

Review 67:cost of eating in their brasserie

Review 68:Historic old building beautifully refurbished

Review 69:Nice staff, lovely room and good food

Review 70:Nothing

Review 71:Great location and friendly staff

Review 72:Th lighting was a bit dim in the main room.

Review 73:Great food, helpful staff

Review 74:A bit expensive

Review 75:The room was spacious and clean

Review 76:Expensive for very basic, old and tired room.

Review 77:Staff very friendly. Locality ideal. Public rooms looked very good.

Review 78:Bar congestion - a bit of a wait sometimes to be served at the bar.

Review 79:The afternoon tea was outstanding and good value for money.

Review 80:Beautiful hotel...attentive staff. Personalized letter from Manager in room

Review 81:Dusty room

Review 82:Loved the restaurant, the dinner and the breakfast

Review 83:Have to access many flights of stairs with heavy international travelling suitcases was very poor.

Review 84:The dinner in the dining room was outstanding.

Review 85:No shoehorn in the room, as far as I could see

Review 86:The character of the place, the good evening dining

Review 87:The staff were just delightful and helpful!!! Nothing was too much for them, they were darlings.

Review 88:The heating was turned up high in the room - so it was quite stuffy and warm

Review 89:Comfortable rooms; Fantastic restaurant with great food; an excellent wine list, with very reasonable prices; atmosphere; friendly staff.

Review 90:Excellent staff, great brasserie and generally well appointed Hotel. Fully recommend and would return again.

Review 91:All staff were extremely friendly and all requests were catered for.

Review 92:The room that I stayed in was over the arched entrance, could hear people coming and going. Not the best nights sleep while there.

Review 93:Having to feed car park meter at 8.30 in the morning

Review 94:Modern comfort built into an historic building

Review 95:Only the cost!!

Review 96:Everything but the price

Review 97:Wonderful staff - nothing too much trouble and excellent quality food.

Review 98:Friendly Staff, excellent food, originality, close car parking, easy access, modern bathroom, tasteful traditional decor, comfortable.

Review 99:Bed was very comfortable and long enough which is unusual. Wonderful room

Review 100:Noisy Plumbing, and staff moving furniture outside, late in the evening. Caused considerable noise and disturbed nights sleep. Very inconsiderate!

Review 101:Staff super friendly and helpful

Review 102:Staff, location.

Review 103:Excellent food

Review 104:The fire alarm went off multiple times in the morning and hotel did nothing to make up for it.

Review 105:The restaurant food was poor quality and very disappointing.

Review 106:The bar service and absence of reasonably priced whiskey.

Review 107:The room was very good but could have been improved with the addition of a small fridge.

Review 108:NO HOT WATER IN THE MORNING SO A COLD SHOWER!!! A fundamental requirement is for ahotel to have hot water at all times. I need a hotel close to work to use in Romsey and so will have to look for an alternative. I sent an e-mail and no applology just saying they would pass on tot he General Manager who was on holiday.

Review 109:Good location

Review 110:The flooring in the bathroom and in the shower was extremely slippery and my husband, who is 81 and in poor health, had difficulty in keeping his feet. We feel that a shower mat should be provided.

Review 111:We thought the beds were very, very comfortable, room service excellent and we loved the continental breakfast - especially the Danish!

Review 112:The bedrooms were small and the bed was extremely uncomfortable.

Review 113:The food was excellent. The hotel is lovely and there is plenty of space. Clean and well maintained.

Review 114:No parking available. Wifi didn't work at all. Not even at the reception, bar and restaurant. Breakfast not included, which makes it a rather expensive stay. Went to have breakfast in the coffee place right across the street.

Review 115:Nice setting in the city centre. Historic settings. Warm welcome at reception. Nice (but pricey) restaurant.

Review 116:I booked this mini break for my mother, she had nothing but praise for both the staff and the room she stayed in. I will definitely be booking again in the very near future.

Review 117:Family room was split level, so awkward to use bathroom on lower level as staircase was wooden and noisy/slippery to use during night, I asked to have sofa bed made up to avoid using the staircase. Family room price disproportionately high for just a sofa bed and and an inconvenient staircase. I appreciate this is an old quirky building though, but in future I will book 2 separate rooms rather than the duplex family room. The room was not really large enough for more than two people and the shower room was very small.

Review 118:Very pleasant bar and restaurant with friendly and courteous waiting staff. Rooms offered nice touches such as water, lovely toiletries, magazines and superior tea/coffee facilities.

Review 119:Getting up next morning!!

Review 120:Food - choice and quality Hotel styling - modern inside an old Coaching Inn Valet Parking offered....may need to ask Staff - very helpful, friendly and didn't take offence when the guests didn't agree!

Review 121:The seats in the bar and quite low.

Review 122:That we had the same room as last time. The food is excellent and presentation is too! The complimentary newspaper was good and the info in the room.
