Reviews for Greville Arms Hotel Mullingar

Review 1:The room we got did not reflect the pictures of the rooms on booking.com or their website. Our room and bathroom was very dated and in need of upgrading. We had a baby with us and the heating went off through the night. The room was freezing and we had to ring reception to ask them to put it back on, which they did but it took hours for the room to heat up. The heating was on full pelt by the time we checked out but it was a little too late by then!

Review 2:The staff were very friendly. The location is great, right on the Main Street with limited car parking spaces at the rear of the hotel. The breakfast was great!

Review 3:No fridge in the room, very few TVs channels, tables remain unattended and dirty when it's not high peak

Review 4:Staff very helpful and friendly, very nice breakfast and very good choices for lunch and dinner. Central located 2 steps away from all, can get very busy and loud.

Review 5:Car park not big enough to facilitate all the guests staying at the hotel.

Review 6:Atmosphere lovely, Christmas decorations very festive. Staff welcoming and helpful.

Review 7:Finishes in the room were tired and damaged. Heating didn't work (in January) After complaining we were told it was fixed but were given a fan heater for the time being. Transpired the heating was not fixed, and the fan heater had an electrical short that dangerously arced. Hair drier was not wired to plug properly with cables hanging out. Plug overheated dangerously within 2-3 mins of use.

Review 8:Staff were friendly and helpful Location was perfect

Review 9:Noise from a neighbouring niteclub very loud until 3am. Avocado bathroom suite a little dated.

Review 10:Hotel very central good choice for meals within the hotel. Car parking on site a huge advantage and well sign posted on roads leading into Mullingar.

Review 11:We got put into a smoking room without being asked which I have to admit I didn't like but as we were running late for a function we did not have time to complain. The room was okay but the shower the following morning was poor as the temperature kept fluctuating and the shower curtain kept blowing into the bath despite the door being closed. Although it has a car park it's very small so hard to find a parking spot.

Review 12:Good Location & Friendly staff.

Review 13:Breakfast was a bit haphazard, went back up for the fry and when we went back to our table another couple had taken it!

Review 14:Great location, perfect for a short, town centre, stay.

Review 15:everything was wondeful

Review 16:The location is right in the centre of town, eventhough it was during the busy xmas season and the hotel was busy , busy , the staff were excellent and friendly and helpful, the food was excellent in the restaurant and room service and also breakfast , excellent value for the price in peak season

Review 17:walking through the restaurant with luggage from the back door to reception

Review 18:beautiful old building, car parking, plenty of spaces to sit and chill, plenty of choice for food

Review 19:Room was cold on arrival . didn't have a kettle. For the price of the room it was not worth it.waited 15 minutes for someone to answer the door to let us in at the end of the night..stayed in this hotel last year and it was better experience.

Review 20:Great location and staff where very friendly.

Review 21:Strong smell of cigarette smoke in room. Street facing room was noisy and windows require double glazing and/or draught proofing . Hotel is in a good location but is very dated and needs a thorough makeover

Review 22:Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good with complimentary newspaper.

Review 23:The bedroom felt cold when we arrived at 7pm.radiator was hot but maybe not on long? Then cold radiator and room in the morning when we got up.

Review 24:Homely atmosphere, comfortable beds, good bar food and breakfast.

Review 25:Not a bad experience as such but they are very strict on breakfast!! Only limited to fruit r a fry/ tea r juice was very suprised as never came across that before

Review 26:Friendly staff & very helpfull

Review 27:poor wifi average food (bar menu) noisy, room seemed to be directly above a live music session that went on until after midnight

Review 28:Nice room Clean bottled water in room

Review 29:The hotel was so central and provided entertainment on the Friday and Saturday nights. The staff were so pleasant and friendly. The hotel couldn't be faulted, the breakfast was amazing and the rooms were great. Would stay here again.

Review 30:Tiny room. Tiny bed. Old shower, Luke warm water. No lift!! Very poor lighting in room & also room was unbearably hot. Walls like paper - Person snoring in the next room woke us numerous times.

Review 31:Location

Review 32:great location, very nice overnight FD agent that checked us in and helped us to our room, breakfast was great, the bar was wonderful, easy parking lot, comfy beds, and of course we loved the niall shrine in the lobby :)

Review 33:Staff at reception ignored me on arrival at the front desk. I had to "ahem" to get their attention whilst in front of them. I requested early check in. They weren't aware. A room was almost ready. Went to it and was still being turned around. I went in and the stench of vomitus hit me instantly. I was then told there was a towel shortage. There was two in the bathroom in the end. I wanted a shower after travelling. Run the shower for 15mins on the highest heat setting. No hot water obviously, so had to bathe instead. Finally their was a light on in the bathroom that could not be switched off.

Review 34:The bed was extremely comfortable, much to my surprise. I had a restful sleep.

Review 35:The room was very basic for the price we paid. Very outdated. Delph and cutlery not completely clean at breakfast.

Review 36:The receptionist was so welcoming and helpful.

Review 37:felt the lighting thoughout the building was a bit dim also the room , suggest you put additional LED lighting , run on fresh air. Safe did not work which was pointed out but not repaired. You could save money on electricity if when you leave the room the electricity supply auto. goes off.

Review 38:Location , service , food,

Review 39:Our room was a bit dated...Green bathroom that was out in the 80's needs updating.

Review 40:Brilliant location, very friendly staff and brilliant buzz around the hotel

Review 41:Dust in bedroom.Bedroom and bathroom needs to be updated. No separate breakfast room. I did not like the fact that breakfast had to be taken in a public area with general public in for their snacks etc.

Review 42:Location ,staff and food.

Review 43:Breakfast. It was in a cafe restaurant that was open to the public so it was hard to figure out what was included as a hotel guest. Sausages and rashers were of poor quality and inedible. Overall very poor breakfast experience. Pity as everything else was good at this hotel.

Review 44:Staff, location, quirkiness.

Review 45:Given a small room had to changed over got the wedding room, please don't tell me that room was for the married couple not very nice no chair to sit down , bathroom not very nice needs doing up and fresh paint.

Review 46:Not a lot , breakfast not to bad

Review 47:I have no complaints but it's all a bit expensive.

Review 48:Staff all very friendly and helpful, the hotel has an excellent position for shopping and nightlife. The breakfast has a very good choice of little cakes and hot food.

Review 49:the treads on the stairs, really need to be highlighted, they should be metal stripped , two steps on first floor especially, (red carpet area) New Manager started day before and said she would bring to management attention

Review 50:we had a few travel problems, and the staff went that extra mile, Anne Marie and Noelle deserve a special mention. the staff in breakfast room also very friendly, a young man very helpful and easy going

Review 51:An old inn, full of character - it even has its own museum - but with all the services required by today's traveller. Situated right in the middle of town.

Review 52:The noise from the ventilation duct all night, the leaking ceiling, the cold breakfast and the dark dingy decor throughout

Review 53:The exceptionally pleasant staff

Review 54:Some of the furniture could do with being changed....worn in places. Curtains in bedroom worn and frayed. Kettle leaking water and partly broken underneath.

Review 55:Staff friendly and helpful. Location of hotel very good for shopping and in the centre of town near to everything. Bar/lounge cosy and homely feeling. Food excellent both the breakfast and evening meal.

Review 56:Being an older building the walls are paper thin, we were unlucky to have some noisey neighbours who kept us awake.

Review 57:Loved the decor and history of this hotel. Really cosy and great atmosphere with live bands in the evening. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. Best black pudding at breakfast too!

Review 58:The bedroom was a disgrace - a lot of toe nail clippings on floor, carpet very dirty, no bath/shower mat, no main light in bathroom, no spoons for tea/coffee making, water in shower was intermittent. Definitely very poor value for money.

Review 59:Food was very good, the staff were very friendly, the location was ideal..

Review 60:No lift and a lot of stairs, room dated, grubby carpet, widows old not providing any noise proofing from local disco, no wifi in room, phone not working, in adequate lighting for reading, no heating in room.

Review 61:Location, local atmosphere

Review 62:The bathroom decor was very dated

Review 63:The staff were friendly the room was well laid out but it was very noisy . The worst thing was the windows provided very little sound proofing from the Main Street .

Review 64:We thought our whole experience in the hotel was super! What a lovely place with lovely staff. Will stay there again for sure! Plus live traditional irish music in the bar was superb! Thank you.

Review 65:The two nights i stayed was noisy there was a car in the car park music playing and driving around it the 1st night the second night was noisy in the corridor and out in carpark with ones shouting.

Review 66:staff very friendly they gave us a lovely tak away breakfast as we hadn't time to stay and eat it.

Review 67:My room was very small and the shower was cold it took 15 mins to get hot water to wash plus the noise from the fans in the hotel stopped me from sleeping all night.

Review 68:Staff

Review 69:Glasses for orange juice were all stained. Breakfast below par. Disappointing as I've heard the food is amazing. And judging by the amount of people having their Sunday lunch there they must have that right. It would be nice to see the tables set for breakfast instead of canteen style. For the price of the room those little things matter. Bathroom was clean but a distinct smell of mould when in the shower.

Review 70:Friendly front desk team.

Review 71:The Greville Arms is a quaint old building in the center of Mullingar. It doesn't look like the photos, but the welcome we received was wonderful, just like meeting with old friends. The room was adequate for our needs, clean and tidy for a family room. Breakfast was delicious. Any questions/queries were dealt with immediately and the entertainment was everything you would want from an Irish hotel. Would love to be able to return.

Review 72:As I am a mature person I found the place very dark could make it brighter!!!! a lot of steps to all areas, not suitable for wheelchair visitors unless there is a lift if so no one told me !!!!!

Review 73:Staff friendly,Food excellent, Hotel on main Street ,close to shops etc Car park at rear of hotel , Great value for the price I paid. yes I would go back.

Review 74:The only negative is not the fault of the hotel, but people were working on a roof until about 9pm, again due to having a sleepless overnight flight we needed to get some sleep early, otherwise it was what we needed.

Review 75:We liked the fact that you could eat all your meals in the hotel. After a long flight from overseas, it was nice not to have to find a restaurant to eat in. Nice location as well as having a safe place to park.

Review 76:Carpets in main thoroughfare badly need changing. Breakfast was only okay, limited variety. The room was decorated nicely but the net curtain in the window collapsed when I adjusted it. I told the girl at reception but nothing was done.

Review 77:Location and Staff

Review 78:The bathroom was outdated and there was no hot water so we had to have a cold shower not good enough considering price

Review 79:Staff were lovely and the bar entertainment was very good great buzz and atmosphere.

Review 80:The décor is a little "tired", and dark, particularly the breakfast area, but the breakfast was good.

Review 81:Staff were excellent. A great bar meal with a matched atmosphere.

Review 82:the staff are wonderful reception, bar, catering, cleaning, management try and succeed in making you have a wonderful experience ***** *****

Review 83:i cant fault this hotel.

Review 84:This hotel was more than welcoming,it has very friendly Staff, fantastic food menu both in the bar or Bistro. it is a very busy hotel. i loved my stay here and will return when next im in Mullingar. Mullingar is a great town.

Review 85:Just love this place staff so friendly reception knew our name as soon as we checked we stayed here for my fathers suprise birthday the staff done everything from deccoration the room to putting sparklers in the cake over all experiance 20/10 none of us wanted to leave defo b bacl more often

Review 86:Shower did not work in our room, but bath was fine. On the morning of checkout when I advised the receptionist so they could fix it for next guests, she immediately offered us another room to shower. Very impressed! They also gave us a discount from the bill - great customer service!!

Review 87:The room we got was nothing like shown in the photos it was tiny, very old,the bathroom had an avocado suite which had def seen better days(many of them) seems as if nothing has been done to the "hotel" since it was built.my wife wouldn't even use the bed,she slept on a chair with my coat round her,I slept on top of the bed, wouldn't chance getting in,the whole room looked disgusting, actually spotted a sign at the bottom of the stairs which summed it up perfectly.(museum upstairs)take my advice just don't go there

Review 88:Hotel car park a bit small.

Review 89:The hotel was clean good breakfast and very friendly girl at reception call shauna. Nite porter very helpfull and so was all the staff.

Review 90:There was a shortage of parking space a lot of weddings in the area and there the guests from previos night were nt gone

Review 91:The staff were so friendly a credit to the hotel the food was beautiful and the ace was buzzing

Review 92:The rooms could be doing with a bit more modernising. Bathrooms could be doing with being replaced/upgraded. These are very insignificant as the standard of the hotel is exceptional for the money you pay.

Review 93:Excellent location Friendly staff Lovely food Bar/Pub area decorated very traditional, no waiting time for drinks. Perfect beer garden area which is a sun trap with lots of seating areas.

Review 94:Having to walk through the hotel from the car park to get to the stairs was a little inconvenient.

Review 95:Beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was superb.

Review 96:Parking

Review 97:The staff were really nice, the beer garden was beautiful and a great idea. At night there was great music and craic! The ambience was beautiful!

Review 98:Difficult to get parking in the small carpark at rear of hotel....dimly lit dining area could do with a makeover

Review 99:Centrally located with a friendly staff.

Review 100:rooms are a little small bathrooms are not as clean as could be shower was plumbed to a next door room, could hear them adjusting the temp so i guess their water temp went from freezing to boiling and back as mine did as we both tried to find the right temp. not a present experience.

Review 101:good staff

Review 102:Wifi - no function at evening, no adapter to lend for european socket, no functional socket for shaver in bathroom

Review 103:quick response to booking com, profesional friendly staff

Review 104:The parking continues to be a " challenge" but staff are very helpful,,,,,

Review 105:The hotel is very popular with locals, that is always a good sign,,, its one of those long established places that exist in all towns in Ireland,,, staff know the customers, the food is good,, the service is fast and efficient,,, I will return,,, its great value,,,

Review 106:Bed very uncomfortable Cigarette smell in corridor Noise at 3am from neighbour room Noise from lose vent banging all night

Review 107:Staff were very friendly Good location Bar and food facilities

Review 108:Monday night they had a salsa dance that went on until 01.00 and being on the first floor you can't hear the music but the bass boom and thump. Should've phoned down but didn't.

Review 109:Excellent hotel, the staff are so friendly and accommodating. We had two rooms, on the Sunday night room service finishes earlier than the rest of the week. When my sister phoned down at 22.00 to get something from the menu and was told service was closed - she said no problem and hung up. Her phone rang with a voice asking if they could give her some toast - no thank you and put phone down. 10 minutes later they phoned again asking if they could get her a take away of any kind. What good service!!! Rooms were very comfortable. All food was very good but the evening restaurant was excellent, even better value if you can get in before19.00. They have their own car park at rear. All I can say is, if you are going to Mullingar or surrounding areas - book the Greville Arms.

Review 110:I attended a party at the Greville, and booked a last minute room. It was massive and great value. The staff were lovely and the hotel had a great feel to it.

Review 111:The property is a little tired. The new-ish rooms at the back of the property are not fresh really. The bathrooms are a bit glum. Overall this is not a very clean place.

Review 112:The Staff - the staff - the staff. Friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The reception, bar and breakfast staff in particular.

Review 113:The fact when checking in the receptionist wanted payment up front, first time I was ever asked for that and then checked our money in case of forgeries !! Also chewing gum in not attractive for a receptionist. Also someone had been ill in the Ladies near the bar and it was just covered with tissue paper. My friend stayed there a number of times and she was disappointed with the room as she had stayed in a bigger room on previous stays for same price. Avocado bathrooms are so 70's and a new carpet wouldn't have gone a miss.

Review 114:I did like the atmosphere as it is old world. The Bar staff were friendly enough and bedroom was clean.

Review 115:Your GM was not very friendly when we had a small issue with our room.

Review 116:The recpection restaurant and bar staff were very helpful the food some of the we have had.

Review 117:Car park

Review 118:Lovely hotel staff were excellent very friendly lovely warm feeling about the place food was also excellent Only problem was finding car park very poorly signed

Review 119:My room shook with the music from what I think was a zumba class directly below my room until 9 pm. I was on a business trip and had asked for a quiet room. Then bottle/beer delivery arrived at 7.30 the next morning.

Review 120:Good location. Off street parking.

Review 121:The first room was a real shocker. The table looked like it was knocked together with scrap wood, The room decor was grubby and the avacado green bathroom was vomit we changed rooms, the next was a great improvement but when we moved the beds the carpet was preety dirty.

Review 122:The staff were all very friendly and really went out of their way to help us. Breakfast was plentiful and the reception and bar has great character.

Review 123:Booked a twin room as it was all they had left. The room was small and dark with only a small window in the top right hand corner. Beds were not made properly and bathroom had a tired 80's look about it. Definitely not worth the room rate of €110.

Review 124:Check in was quick and staff very helpful. The bar had a relaxed atmosphere. Breakfast was good they even had gluten free bread.

Review 125:No heating, no hot water for the shower, dirty toilet, dirty mirror, remote control for tv out of order, hairdryer out of order

Review 126:The hotel staff were friendly

Review 127:Loved everything, would visit again.

Review 128:From the women on reception, the bar staff, the restaurant staff, were all friendly, professional and really good at their jobs.

Review 129:The room I was in was very very dated with a green bathroom suite and tiles, the toilet seat had stains and around the window in the bed room was a bit black. Needs a good overhaul.

Review 130:Staff were lovely and the hotel is in the centre of town close to all the bars and restaurants. Breakfast was absolutely fine.

Review 131:Generally the hotel is dated. Room was not very warm and there was a very annoying noise like a boiler starting up every few minutes

Review 132:Staff were very helpful and welcoming. Nice bar. Free WiFi.

Review 133:Everything was perfect

Review 134:The reason for staying was that we had an early hospital appointment the next day, with the cold weather and snow and frost it was safer to be nearer the hospital. The hotel staff were excellent and very accommodating to our needs. Lovely clean facilities, and lovely caring staff, although we were leaving before breakfast we were invited back to eat, so considerate and accomodating, absolute class, we would highly recommend this hotel. Absolutely marvellous. Very happy guest.

Review 135:A good hoovering of public spaces would help. Decor needs brightening - far too sombre.

Review 136:Good central location. Lively atmosphere especially at breakfast. Food ok - a little disorganised - not enough to impact.

Review 137:We enjoyed a very pleasant night here. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The entertainment was a nice surprise and our extended group took advantage od this and had a great time singing and dancing with the band.

Review 138:The reception is very warm unlike my room. The heating never came on in my room at all . It was very cold. And the place is very unhygienic with people constantly passing through. The public toilets are a disgrace. And i was up most of the night with people roaring out in the corridor returning to their room.

Review 139:Staff were friendly and the breakfast was nice the pub is very warm and comfortable
