Reviews for The Grafton Rooms

Review 1:Everything.

Review 2:Arrived here to no door, had to go through black gets and Knock on a door to be greeted by over 10 polish men drinking saying they was holding the fort as some of them live there whilst the manager was away. Got told they didn't have our booking (we had travelled up from Reading on New Year's Eve!) even though I showed them the confirmation through booking.com. He then began to swear about the manager not being there. Horrible disgusting place, may I had he was smoking pot in the reception when he opened the door. Got in touch with booking.com the next day and they didn't even give me an apology that I had to find a different hotel in a place I didn't know. Never again will I be using again

Review 3:I have to wait outside for almost an hour to get in. There was No one in reception to answer phone or door,-and Also no communication regarding entrance code.

Review 4:This rooms have no receptionist, where would you report malfuntions? Same amount of £45 i get breakfast at other Northampton hotels. NO breakfast facilities.

Review 5:The rooms were clean

Review 6:Small crowded room, industrial area location with higher criminal activity, no reception staff, lady house keeper not always available, narrow stairs, entrance is awkward and not purpose-built, checkin procedure is remotely handled and is a hassle, room keys are kept in key boxes and it was not expected, neighbour fuel station is run-down.

Review 7:Clean room and facilities, secure parking, internet, double-glazing, good decor in room, nice mattress on bed, renovated group of buildings, next to a fuel station

Review 8:Was not value for money taking into account I could have stayed at the Travelodge for the same price. There was a human turn on the floor outside the main door and the 2 staff members staying there were rude

Review 9:Close to amenities

Review 10:No reception area, access by pin code as proprietors not located on site. We did not know this prior to arrival and sat outside for half an hour waiting for someone to show up, answer the door or answer the phone. Would suggest an email sent with booking confirmation detailing access etc. Address not searchable in google maps - identifies a property further down the road. Again not a major as we eventually found using the booking.com confirmation map.

Review 11:Great location, facilities and amenity.

Review 12:Difficult to follow verbal instructions given by phone, while carrying 2 bags and trying to negotiate corridors / doors / stairs and coded locks - would have preferred instructions by TXT or e-mail prior to arrival. Poor lighting in corridors. Coat rail provided in room, but no coat hangers. No instructions or remote control provided for Virgin Media Box and television was not tuned to any terrestrial channels. No directions provided to Fire Escape(s) - isn't this a legal requirement?

Review 13:Reasonable price. Good location.

Review 14:The signs up everywhere saying thieves operate here, does not give a friendly feel. Plus the big black gates inside the building locking up the living area was not welcoming

Review 15:The bed was comfy

Review 16:day of travel inform book room not available, room given not for two people, day after waited for a return call none coming, had to sort out better room with the cleaner. 4 hours after call get text. never answer phone.

Review 17:Phoned in advance to find out if there was luggage storage 4 hours before check in started as we were going to a wedding before check in. The manager kept diverting the conversation to payment and how she had to take my card details immediately to pay for the room! That was not the reason I called yet that was all she was interested in discussing. She was quite forceful about it, which made me feel uncomfortable. No luggage storage. You have to leave your belongings in the communal area if you want to arrive before check-in, which we decided against. Paid by phone in advance (we discovered you can't pay in person except cash to the cleaner who we didn't ever see) and after taking my payment details, the manager "forgot" to text me the details for finding the car park, the building (entrance is not actually on Grafton St as advertised and GPS doesn't take you to the right place!!) our room number, and getting into our room. I had to call her to remind her. Was not impressed as she had 4.5 hours to text me that information after I'd paid and before we arrived. This significantly delayed our arrival to the wedding reception, especially when trying to find the building. From other reviews, this neglect to provide such basic and important details on how to get into the room you paid for is all too common. Car park leading to building entrance "locked" with a cheap bicycle combination lock that didn't even lock. It would be better to not have a lock on the gate than have a flimsy lock advertising how unsecured the car park is. Very impersonal, did not see any staff. Signs up everywhere about things like not smoking, keeping belongings safe and thieves operating in the area. Not welcoming at all. Partner woke up the next day with a visible bite on his skin. There were no windows open so it must have come from the room.

Review 18:En suite bathroom in good condition. Kettle and tea bags provided, though I didn't test the kettle. Wifi, although it only had half signal so it was too slow for me to bother using it.

Review 19:"self-service" hotel was not mentioned, they text the codes once you arrive (this took nearly an hour!). There are no towels provided. From 1-2.30am there was a shouting match between multiple people in the communal area and as walls are so thin you could hear everything - I thought about calling the police at one point. Felt very unsafe.

Review 20:Very close to the station! Not far from town either!

Review 21:Greeted by housekeeping eventually! Was supposed to be sent code to enter door did not receive any message had to speak to manager myself on the phone! this place is a joke and should not be advertised on this website

Review 22:Absolutely nothing

Review 23:There were no people or receptionist around, you got texted through door codes to get in to the building which wasn't great for us as it was raining and we had to call to prompt this text as they had forgotten which meant we got soaked by the time it came through - and the only person we saw was the maid collecting the money for the room, and she was not pleasant.

Review 24:you got what you paid for - a bed and bathroom.

Review 25:The absence of reception was not mentioned on your website. It is not honest for the customer. On the day of his/her arrival the customer gets codes for the doors on his/her mobile phone, but doesn't know in advance. I didn't have my mobile phone with me. It also means the customer leaves the hotel without a receipt. Extremely small room which can be rented for two people! Very noisy: the hotel is next to a very busy road. TV but no remote control! And nobody in the hotel to ask. I don't understand that Booking.com works with such a hotel. I met other customers (a couple) who were as unsatisfied as I was.

Review 26:when we arrived 12 oclock the doors were closed. we had to go in from staff room upstairs. there was nobody around to help, after an hour a cleaner appeared at the reception and she asked us if we had paid. (the check in was 2oclock but if you go after 1 there is nobody there) We had to pay by cash with no reciept or to call the manager who didn't reply to calls to give all card details by phone. anyway we paid by cash and we got the codes!!!! The area didn't feel safe there was no facilities just a kettle and a lot of tea , coffee an sugar. there was TV but didnt work ,a small wardrobe which was a full of cables, no where to hung clothes and a window but didnt open anyway we wouldn't recomended to anyone.

Review 27:near to the station near to self storage and hertz the room was clean maybe only the cleaner is the person who did everything there there were some cameras

Review 28:Room stunk, mainly of smoke. Dirty. No TV or WiFi. Owner not interested in complaints. No one on site so they hide behind a phone no.

Review 29:Nil. Do not stay here. It is like a prison. Everything lock at night.

Review 30:Very awkward to get luggage and stuff up very narrow steep stairs to room 10. No direction signs for rooms! It would have taken a long time to find room on 2nd floor if another resident hadn't just happened to be in lounge when we arrived at 11:30pm, and gave us directions. No hooks on doors to hang coats or dressing gown and only a low slung rail under a shelf was the 'wardrobe'. One bedside lamp was just for decoration - no socket nearby that plug would reach to!

Review 31:Bed and pillows quite comfortable. Shower very good. Bathroom very clean but no bin.

Review 32:Our TV did not work and took over 6 hours to get some one to come see the problem , the bed was a horrible nights sleep the room was way to hot and not enough air flow, and was not very clean , would not recommend to any one I know , if I knew how to contact some one to get my money back I would !!

Review 33:It was a room to stay as there was no where else

Review 34:No reception had to pay by phone when I got there then you get codes to let yourself in and out as well as the car park unusual !!!

Review 35:Room fine apart from toilet door handle kept pulling off as did shower door handle

Review 36:No Staff on site was not told about security numbers to get through security gate & to enter into hotel building all my calls were ignored @ nearly Midnite climbed the fence fell & nearly broke my back then to realise i still couldn't get in til a customer came out to hav a cigarette!!!

Review 37:Very cross with a man from housekeeping who chose to knock on my door at 5.30am and again at 5.45 am. I was staying here on business and did not appreciate being woken in this way and no apology or explanation was given.

Review 38:Easy check in via text instructions. Room was well equipped and clean. Lovely hot and powerful shower.

Review 39:The TV didn't work, the toilet roll holder fell off the wall, single glazed windows made it a very sleepless night next to a main road.

Review 40:The price was good and close to silverstone for the formula 1. Free wifi!

Review 41:The room was a bit musty smelling and very small meaning the double bed was pushed into a corner. There was also a radiator behind the bed, therefore it didn't sit flush with the wall and there was a gap of around four inches between the head of the bed and the wall. The television didn't work properly. There were two windows in the room, yet only one opened, it was a very hot day and the lack of fresh air in the room made it unbearable. The blinds we're broke and didn't close and there was no hot water to the sink in the bathroom. We arrived at the hotel at 4pm and let ourselves in with the access code we were provided with via text message. We checked out at 6am the next day. We did not see one member of staff in this time.

Review 42:There was free wi-fi.

Review 43:I could not get the tv to work and I phoned the receptionist she wasfairly helpful but said she would make sure that someone came out tohave look at it and but no one came at all I was very disappointed withthat. The bed had stains on the sheets too.

Review 44:The bed was comfy and it was quiet.

Review 45:Very noisy no double glazing on windows and on main road Not that clean Creepy as no staff there and no facilities open For men only construction workers TV limited stations

Review 46:The bed was comfy and bathroom new

Review 47:Couldn't get the TV to work but we were too tired to ring for help. Not having a SatNav, we had a bit of trouble finding the Grafton Rooms.

Review 48:Very comfortable and clean beds, nice shower

Review 49:Only one plug socket, shower door didn't close, lock and toilet roll holder broken, basic TV package, no glasses, one towel and a small towel - nothing to dry your hands on. Two of us staying that had to share one towel. House keeper came knocking on our door and 9pm with not much explanation as though she didn't know we were there.

Review 50:Parking and location were good.

Review 51:There was no reception. No staff present. Didn't feel very secure as all codes and key codes were given over text. Hotel situated near a lot of council blocks which was intimidating.

Review 52:The bed was comfy. Central to the town. Room was spacious. Bathroom was excellent.

Review 53:I stayed in a double room which the main room was great but the en-suite bathroom was filled with what looked like nat flies.

Review 54:The manger Emma is great, really friendly. I like the fact you are given the codes and can come and go as you please. Great location bang in the center of town.

Review 55:the fact we had to change rooms because there was a leak and that they onlh had one vending machine but it didnt have much stuff inside it and the staff was short there was no staff at all

Review 56:the beds were comfortable and it was quite worm

Review 57:Lone woman occupant, arriving late at night. On leaving work at 22:00 picked up a text to phone for access codes etc as this was an unmanned hotel. Had I known this at the time of booking I would not have chosen. Poor parking facilities in a gated car park that had a lot of building debris in it, Didn't feel particularly safe on arrival or in hotel and door locked only by means of a Yale lock, no extra security for peace of mind. Represented poor value for money. I've had a much higher standard of accommodation in other hotels for less money in the city.

Review 58:Room clean, modernised bathroom, comfortable bed, wifi and telly

Review 59:There is no reception, no staff people, all you have is a support telephone number. The building has a known issue with the water on the bathrooms, there is not enough pressure so that you need to put the head shower on the tray every time you open the shower in order to get pressure and therefore be able to get water. Otherwise you don´t get water from the head shower. Once the water is coming out you can use the head shower as usual. Well, this is not great in terms of quality, but anyway, it would have helped if this issue was properly communicated (as simple as one paper in the bathroom describing the issue - "if you don´t get water you need to .....). OK, at 10 pm when we saw that the water was not working on the bathroom, we called to this support number several times and incredibly no one answered. We had to wait until 8 am to get a solution for this, as there is no support service from 10 pm to 8 am. I have never seen something like that. Apart from that, the installations were very very old, with narrow and old stairs to get access to the rooms, that were very old as well.

Review 60:The faffing with access codes is a little weird but no big deal (just make sure you check in early). As ever, Northampton is driver's hell and generally depressing, but no fault of Grafton Rooms.

Review 61:Clean and comfy.

Review 62:No staff around to book me in and during my stay no one to take enquiries or to get information from except by telephone to the manager who does not reside at the hotel.

Review 63:the use of a refrigerator and microwave and facilities for coffee in the lounge was good

Review 64:where to start? -on arrival: when you go for the main door, it says that you have to enter rear, but on rear door there is only code, which i didn't know. Very confusing. -when i rang telephone nr, nobody answered for 30 min, so i waited in the car, despite tex msg saying that i have to ring on arrival to get access code - i was not the only one waiting, there were more people who didnt know what to do -looked like top bathroom is having plumbing problems as my bathrooms floor was flooded -nobody in reception to report to

Review 65:Bed was ok

Review 66:The bed was painful and gave me a serious backpain. there was no soap, no tissue in the room and no iron. it was digraceful. no human being on site to talk too. very bad customer experience.

Review 67:nothing

Review 68:The lack of staff was a bit weird but fine however it made it feel like a hostel the water tank was above our room and it kept me awake all night

Review 69:Clean

Review 70:Completely soulless and not one member of staff on the property (other than the housekeping lady who couldn't speak very good English)

Review 71:Decent value and clean room

Review 72:This is an unmanned hotel. They call you to take payment on the day (not sure why they can't get it from the booking details) and then text you with all the codes to get into the hotel. However had to chase each time to get the codes. Also you don't get any invoice or receipt, not great for your expenses. Wifi doesn't work in most of the rooms.

Review 73:Rooms are new and fresh with en suite. Cheap Place

Review 74:No staff there at all, shower didn't work, no hot water in taps, extremely loud road outside - got no sleep. 1 small towel between us, no toilet roll

Review 75:Everything seemed to be on the verge of breaking, the curtain hooks were falling out of the wall, the bathroom lock didn't work and they almost couldn't accommodate me due to a plumbing issue

Review 76:For the price I paid it was as expected. Comfy bed and a warm shower.

Review 77:Window let in A LOT of noise and cold!! Especially considering our room was facing the street. There were no signs to say where the rooms were so as had to randomly open doors without numbers on for help because there were no staff on reception when we arrived or checked out!!

Review 78:The duvet was LUSH and the shower was brilliant!!

Review 79:Only downfall was it's so close to the main road so if your after sleep bring ear plugs and in the morning there wasn't any hot water from tap or the shower

Review 80:It was in an ideal location for where we had to be the next day, instructions on how to get into the room were spot on as when we arrived it was unstaffed so various code for locks were needed. The room was clean and looked like it had been redecorated recently, bed was comfy and there was a kettle for brew.

Review 81:TV only had 4 channels, in house staff were foreign and when asked for a spoon either didn't understand me or just couldn't be bothered. basically ignorant. wifi was not too good. Emma needs to sort staff out.

Review 82:Bed was great, bathroom nice and clean. Owner was away but very helpful when contacted.

Review 83:The toilets were all damp, you couldn't control the heating so it was cold, room had very bad wifi connection, really cramped with poor lighting

Review 84:It was close to town had a private car park

Review 85:no staff on site, had to phone, asked for ground floor, got a room top floor, walked out stayed at ibis at sol centre,in town, with no booking had to pay top rate

Review 86:Only staff we met was cleaner who wanted to Hoover at 4.30pm, when we'd just arrived. Someone phoned me for payment whilst we were trying to find GR, she couldn't help with directions but was ok at taking card details!

Review 87:Cheap enough for a sleep

Review 88:No facilities

Review 89:It was close to the location I needed to be.

Review 90:Was cold in the room

Review 91:Nothing

Review 92:Pretty much everything , it was not good at all, worst hotel I've stayed in

Review 93:Not one thing was good

Review 94:Hover in middle of landing still plugged in and the nose of traffic

Review 95:Basic facilities. No toilet roll and bathroom wasn't very clean.

Review 96:Comfortable beds

Review 97:toilet not clean.,light switch broken, lamp not working..No TV remote.Rubbish bin not emptied.

Review 98:We booked a double room and when we arrived it turned out we had to stay in a twin because there was nothing else left.

Review 99:Clean and tidy, everything needed

Review 100:couldn't get them to send a receipt and the walls are so thin you can hear everything

Review 101:efficiency

Review 102:Being left to do your own thing

Review 103:Very noisy being on a busy road with traffic all night

Review 104:Simple, cheap, clean

Review 105:I wouldn't class the Graftton rooms as a hotel. It's room only.

Review 106:Comfy bed . Very clean room .

Review 107:The rooms in this hotel were filthy, would of rather slept in my van!

Review 108:Excellent on phone service

Review 109:The stairs were very steep and narrow. I disliked not being able to see any staff

Review 110:The shower

Review 111:Comfort of beds I don't well generally but slept well that night

Review 112:The room and bathroom were infested with flies

Review 113:Everything about the place apart from the location

Review 114:Nothing to be honest

Review 115:No reception. I have had to sort out access to the accommodation by myself.

Review 116:Walls that thin you here the guests in rooms around you, wether it be talking to each other or thier tv,s.

Review 117:Wi fi, bathroom and comfy bed.

Review 118:the staff entering the room without permission whilst room occupied

Review 119:the bed was comfy

Review 120:Wifi not ideal and kept disconnecting

Review 121:Location and excellent shower facilities with plenty of hot water

Review 122:Nowhere to sit in room except the bed. No wardrobe. Uneven floors.

Review 123:Really comfortable bed. Reasonably close to amenities - Shops, pubs etc.

Review 124:Need bar

Review 125:no staff about .......................

Review 126:conveinient for trip

Review 127:The receptionist couldn't understand us. We arrived about 5.30pm. Very frustrating.

Review 128:Nice and quiet very good value for money
